| Dr. Horst Schumann |
| Schumann specialized in sterilization. Himmler had an interest in sterilization experiments involving X-rays instead of castration and he thought Dr. Schumann was the right man for the job. Schumann and his associates would place the person's sexual organs between two X-ray machines for 6-7 minutes. This was much more effective than castration in which not as many people died from the X-rays. In contrast, nearly everyone died from castration. There were only two problems with this form of sterilization. One being that about half of the patients got cases of radiation burns and died after great suffering because of them. Also, the survivors later could and probably would develope cancer because of the radiation poisoning. *Although few good things came from the inhumane experiments that the Nazis did, one of the major good things was found indirectly. Now, when you have an X-ray, they put a special blanket over your internal organs, specifically your sexual organs. This sheet stops the sterilization process.* (BACK) |
