"So this is all that remains of the once great kingdom of Baron..."
said a lone shrouded figure as they slowly walked towards a certain
site past the ruined remains of the town. "At least most of the
Castle has been rebuilt. I'll give them credit for that..."
The figure stopped in front of a marble boulder that was nearby
under a weeping willow tree.
"...So...the rumours are true then..." The figure looked down then
looked to the east. Dawn would arrive soon. The figure quickly
turned and walked away. "A pity..."

On the marble boulder read the inscription:
"Here lies King Cecil Harvey of Baron and General Kain Highwind.
Both taken away from us too soon by cruel fate. May you find peace
and happiness in death that you weren't allowed to find in life."

From behind the remains of a giant oak, a lone dragoon male watched
the stranger as he entered and left the site.
"..."

( Don't worry, it'll be all right in the end...I'll make sure of
it...You'll get better soon too I promise...)

Mana woke up with a start, sat up and held her head in her
head. "What a strange dream..." She
looked at the clock on her wall. "AHHH! I over slept again!!" she
said in a panic as she scrambled to get changed and get breakfast
ready.

With the reconstruction of Baron in progress, everyone was staying
in Highwind Manor for the time being. Thus, Highwind Manor was full
of people - mostly soldiers with BIG appetites - with one
dragoon with a particularly big appetite...

"Eggs!...Bacon...gaah!!" The Dragoon Commander ran around in the
kitchen while getting breakfast ready for everyone.

Garret burst into the main room of the Manor. "GOOD MORNING
EVERYONE!!! " he said energetically. "Hey something smells good in
the kitchen!" the Dragoon licked his lips in anticipation.
"Garret! Help serve everyone. Start with Rosa!"
"OKAY!" Garret went and got Rosa's breakfast. Surprisingly he didn't
steal any food from her tray. He even made the eggs and bacon into a
smiling face. "See Rosa, your breakfast is happy to see you!" he
said cheerily.

It had been a little over 6 months since Baron was destroyed by the
reincarnation of Zeromus. Everyone had been working so hard to
rebuild their home and their lives...

After Garret served out the food (part of Golbez's breakfast did end
up missing by the way) he skipped into the kitchen. "Reporting in
Commander!" he saluted Mana. "This morning..."

The soldiers were rather happy as the scarfed down their food in
record time. "Time to go put the finishing touches on the Castle!"
they scrambled out.

"So someone came to Baron?"
"Yes, I'll go get a sketch of them done while I am visiting Mist
Village for supplies."
"Okay...Garret..."
"Yeah?"
"Do you think...no, nevermind...come back home safe."
"I always will. Don't let Golbez eat my candy while I am gone!"
Mana laughed. "I'll make sure but I am sure your candy is safe as
long as you didn't steal any of Golbez's food this morning...you
didn't did you?"
Garret bolted out of the building fast. "Gotta go!"

A hovercraft quickly made its way over the ground, on its way
eastward. "Sir, was it necessary for us to start out so early on our
way to Baron?" the captain of the guards asked, keeping her helmet on.
"I'm sure Queen Rosa won't mind..." Edward, the prince of Damcyan,
shook his head. "I'm hoping to re-establish contact with Baron, since
that bounty is gone... Poor Cecil.. Driven to insanity without
Rosa.." he sighed. He glanced back at the driver. "How long until we
reach Baron?"
"Not too long sir." the man said, as they were already past the mist
cave, so they hadn't far to go.

Subject:  No happy Rosa for the happy breakfest

Rosa woke up for breakfest as if she was in a dream. Ever since
Cecil's untimely death and Kain's...well...the world seemed to go
sour for the usually optimistic queen. She just couldn't understand
how things went so horribly wrong.

'Is this my fault?'

She walked down to breakfest. The already slim woman had lost even
more weight. She looked dangerously skinney. Food just didn't seem
too appealing. Rosa tried to eat, but if she ate too much she would
throw it all up.

'I have to try and look okay even if inside I am all broken up.'

Rosa sat down at the long table waiting for her food to be served.
Garret brought it to her and she quirked a smile for him.

"It has a happy face..."

The man scurried off leaving Rosa to play with her eggs. She made the
eyes run as if they were crying egg tears. The happy breakfest was
being ruined. Turned unhappy because of Rosa.

'I guess I better try and stuff some of this into my mouth...'

She took two dainty bites before shooving the plate away. She looked
into her glass of water seeing a reflection of herself.

'I don't look like me anymore. Who is this withered woman?'

She decided to drink the water instead of analyze herself. Her throat
was parched, and the water was quickly gone.

Golbez walked out of the building after having eaten breakfast and
looked out over the slowly-rebuilding town below.

Over six months ago, he had returned to the planet to combat the
reawakened Zeromus. The brother of the King had earned considerable
renown within the world for directing and coordinating the military
forces of many kingdoms to repulse the attack of the Darkness.
Golbez was a military genius and his tactics that once nearly caused
the destruction of the world helped to bring about its salvation.

Of course, after he returned, few people were willing to trust the
sorcerer. Had Cecil, Rosa, and even Kain not vouched so vehemently
for him. Golbez knew that, still, many people regarded him with
considerable caution and distrust. Everyone knew Golbez was a
powerful black wizard and perhaps the most skilled Black Knight
alive. However, his past crimes could never fully be erased from the
minds of the people who knew him and knew what he'd done.

Golbez, too, was aware that he was one of the most powerful men in
existence. However, he chose not to flaunt his power. His cold,
emotionless air put most people around him on edge but since the
second defeat of Zeromus, only a select few people could honestly
claim to have seen him cast a spell or wield his darksword in
battle.

Upon Zeromus's second defeat, Golbez had intended to return to the
Moon to sleep. Rosa, however, asked the brother of her late husband
to remain and help with the reconstruction. She also recognized
Golbez's sharp mind and knack for tactics and strategy and asked him
to become her head military advisor. Some rumors began to fly around
that Golbez had worked a spell on Rosa to place him in such a
position. Those who knew the two well knew that Rosa's purity was
almost equal to Cecil's and Golbez's power could never take a hold on
Rosa, even if he wanted to. The sorcerer accepted the offered
position, however, if not for himself, then for his deceased brother.

He vowed to honor the memory of Cecil and his first step would be
aiding in the reconstruction of Baron. Slowly, he had begun to gain
the respect of the soldiers and the people of the city. They
recognized his ability to coordinate and manage not just war efforts
but almost any endeavor and they slowly came to regard him as their
general and not someone who sought power. Many children who were too
young to remember Golbez's bloody past looked up to him as something
of a hero. He had become a sort of icon, especially since his role
in defeating the Darkness six months ago, a monument of unfaltering
strength and perseverance.

Golbez, himself, preferred not to mingle with the soldiers or other
people. He remained distant, though the matter for him was not a
distance of station. It was his personal choice. Perhaps he
regretted his actions in the past and did not want to drag Baron down
with him should he fall again. He was always polite and courteous
and though he was a strict commander, he was highly respected because
he was a competent general and an able fighter.

His attentions now were focused on the reconstruction of Baron City
and Baron Castle. He worked closely with Dragoon Commander Mana
Highwind and the Queen to keep the reconstruction efforts running
smoothly. Several other kingdoms were sending envoys, resources, and
other aid to help restore the country. With any luck, the
reconstruction process would be finished ahead of schedule.

Golbez took a deep breath and watched the people of the city below
working for a moment, then walked down toward the city. Baron needed
him. His brother's homeland needed him. And he would not fail them
now.

"The rumours are true. Both are dead."
"Is that so? I guess they couldn't keep it a secret forever but I
must commend them for their skill so far."
"..."
"How long has it been?"
"Roughly ten years. I prefer not to think about it."
"Yes, I know." The figure swirled a goblet in his hand and then
drank from it. "How many are left?"
"Only the soldiers and the Queen. There are no civilians."
"Oh my! So many things happen when you disappear for a while huh?"
"..."
"Time has not been flowing normally for a long time. History is off
course...but then again, that is good for what I am planning."
"..."
"But not now...I'm hungry. What do you want to eat today?" the
figure said rather happily.
"...just some fruit salad is fine now."
"You never change!" the figure chuckled.
"I have changed. No one can stay the same."
"Oh, that is true in a respect but in your case...you haven't
forgotten...and it eats at your soul everday."
"...I lost my soul a long time ago..."

Garret sighed as he walked with Boko, the family chocobo past Baron
on his way to Mist. "Rosa still is depressed. That's no good." The
boy didn't know what to do. It has been over six months and Rosa
showed no signs of improvement. In fact Garret thought that she was
getting slowly worse. Another sigh. "She can't go on this way.
She'll die before..."
"Wark?" the chocobo noticed Garret spacing out again.
Garret patted the animal on the head. "I don't like keeping secrets
Boko. I think keeping what I know from everyone is wrong but...Mana
told me not to tell. And even if I could tell what I know...that may
do more damage to everyone than good..."
"Wark!"
"Baron Castle looks beautiful doesn't it? If it weren't for the
ruined city around it...you'd never be able to tell...that Baron was
destroyed."
"Wark..."
"And living with Golbez is interesting. He's been behaving and I
hate to admit it but he is good at what he does. How will it all
turn out hmm? He's still dark in my books and ...."
A hovercraft speed by Garret and the dragoon spun around in circles
from its wake. "Hovercraft? Damcyan?"

Mana sat across from Rosa at the table. Putting an air that nothing
was wrong was hard. It was lying and Mana was not used to telling
lies. In fact inside she was probably worse off than Rosa.
"Um...is the food not to your liking Queen? Maybe some fresh fruit
instead?" Mana tried to strike a conversation to maybe make Rosa
feel better. "The construction has gone by a lot faster and better
than anyone could've hoped for! You're doing an excellent job..."
Mana poked at her breakfast too and slowly ate it. It was like the
task of eating took too much energy. She cast a downwards side
glance. She wished so much that she was more like Golbez. Nothing
seemed to effect him. Heck, he was probably the most healthy,
mentally and physically of the people who were left in Baron.
"Shall we go to Baron together today? You should see what the
soldiers are doing and the Castle is as good as new now so there is
no danger of falling debris or anything."
Mana got a chocobo ready and put Rosa on it and walked with the
chocobo to Baron. Rosa needed some fresh air and cheering up. "You
know, this age of peace is thanks to people like you Rosa. When we
were kids, the world was such different place. To think, we have
*real* world peace. It seems like the past was so long ago..."

"Your Queen approaches!" shouted Mana as they got to the castle. The
soldiers stood at attention and saluted. A dragoon walked up to the
pair. "Dragoon, please show your Queen around the castle and show
her our work."
"Yes Sir!"
Mana smiled at Rosa. "I have some things to take care of so please
take a look around. I am sure you will be pleased with the result."
Mana then walked off with a Dark Knight.
"Report."
"Still no signs of the villains. We have wanted posters everywhere
and with our connections they are still resourceful enough to avoid
capture. Even so Commander, we will not fail you or the Queen!" The
knight saluted.
Mana smiled. "I know." Then her expression turned dark. "Concerning
the other matter...no one knows right?"
"No sir. Not even Golbez knows."
"Good let's keep it that way. No one must know...or else all our
work will be in vain..."

The Damcyan captian glanced back. ".. Was that a chocobo rider we
just passed?" she asked. "... I think I reconized him."
"Hmm." Edward gave a slight nod. He decided it wouldn't make too
much of a difference if they arrived at Baron a few minutes later
than expected. "Sir, let's stop a moment. We can ask that man about
the reconstruction." he said, mostly just giving a driver a reason to
stop.
The hovercraft soon ceased, and the Captain hopped off, going back
in the direction she saw the chocobo rider. "Garret?" she called,
taking her helmet off as she saw him. "It's me, Chrissa!" she shouted.
It relieved her everytime she saw another dragoon. It had meant the
bounty hadn't taken them, and now that it was gone, she hoped very
few dragoons had been taken, if any.
Edward smiled, watching from the hovercraft. The captian of his army
was the main reason he had cut off contact from Baron that while ago,
when they called that bounty. Chrissa had once been a dragoon of
theirs, and had worried about the others as well as herself.

After recovering from the dizzying spin, Garret blinked several
times as the female soldier call out his name. "Oh hey!" he said she
approached him. "Chrissa! Babe! Long time no see!" he said with a
smile. "How are things? It's been a while hasn't it? Are you and
King Edward heading towards Baron to see Rosa? That's it I take it.
That's good. Rosa could use more company." Garret tried not to let a
sad look come across his face.
Garret scratched his head. He really didn't know what to say about
Baron or anyone else from home. "Um, I am on route to get some
supplies. You know how it is. We soldiers got hearty appetites."
Garret turned to face Edward. He saluted and bowed. "Thank you
Majesty for the support from Damcyan for the reconstruction of
Baron. We really appreciate it. The Castle is basically complete. We
just need a few decorations to make it look like it did before. I am
sure the Queen would love a visit from you." Garret smiled and
returned his attention back to Chrissa. "I have to get going. I
don't want a whole army angry with me because they didn't get lunch.
Heck I don't want me angry at me for not getting lunch. OH! Mana is
at Baron Castle right now too. I am sure she would be happy to see
you as well." Garret leaned in and whispered the next part. "Um, I
don't know how Edward feels about Golbez now, but I think Golbez is
also at Baron. Just giving you the heads up just in case, ya know."
The dragoon boy bowed to King Edward. "I'll see you guys later," he
said. "It was nice to see you again Chrissa, safe and *healthy*." He
emphasized the word healthy before leaving the Damcyan envoy and
continued on his way.

Vesta scrunched her nose and frowned in disdain. Go figure a manor
such as this would be musty and damp beyond reproach. Wandering
around the hall aimlessly was not exactly her idea of spending time
wisely. With the recent...inconvenient series of events, the school,
staff and students were no doubt spiraling down in an irreversible
path to utter 'delinquent-ness'.

Hmmm...thought Vesta. Was there such a word? She shrugged off the
minor point in irritation.

Rukus and a cocophony of chaos emmitted from every corner of this god-
forsaken place! The weak, influential students were being corrupted
by the second! Something MUST be done to re-establish some much
needed order....and peace.

ooc: My post got deleted on accident. *dang-it-all*

Well, last post for a little bit. Sorry-- this isn't as good as my
last post, but I am tired now. *meeps* Feel free to move her for me
Kain till I get back! Anime Expo-- Here I come!!

bic: Rosa answered the questions Mana asked of her as expected.

"No, the food is great...Of course fruit would be nice..."

She wasn't really paying attention. Her thoughts had become dark and
gloomy. She was thinking about how Cecil had looked when she found
him...

"what?"

Rosa re-focused her attention on Mana. Her eyes began to sparkle at
the thought of seeing her beloved castle and how the progress was
going with the rebuilding.

'The air will do much for my queasy stomach...'

Rosa got help from Mana on mounting the chocobo. Mana's next comment
caught Rosa off-guard.

"Me? There are others..."

Rosa late her statement drop. She felt the tears prick her eyes as
she thought of the lives lost to get the peace Mana and her shared.

"Peace...but at what price?"

Rosa's chocobo followed the dragoon's at she looked at how the castle
was progressing.

Subject:  Golbez

 

"Report," Golbez commanded. A stray gust of wind blew
several strands of his dark hair into his face but he
ignored them.

The black knights before him saluted, then one stepped
forward. "The castle's reconstruction is almost
complete, General," the knight said, "The final
touches should be made within the week."

Golbez nodded. "And the town's status?" he asked.

"Thanks to the overwhelming aid from the townspeople,
the reconstruction of our city is proceeding ahead of
schedule."

"Excellent." Golbez nodded his approval. "Is there
anything else you have to report?"

The knight shook his head. "No, sir," he said,
"Commander Garret has left for Mist to gather supplies
and rumors tell that King Edward from Damcyan may be
sending aid."

Edward. Golbez wasn't sure how to expect that. "Very
well," Golbez nodded his dismissal toward the knight.
The knight saluted once more and went back to the
others, who continued their work.

Golbez was responsible for the destruction of Damcyan,
Edward's kingdom, about a year ago. It was likely
that the new king of the desert kingdom wouldn't give
Golbez a very warm reception. The Black Knight
decided he would take it in stride. After all, he was
responsible for the death of Edward's lover. He knew
the bard king would not be so foolish as to attack
him. At best, Edward was likely to ignore Golbez
altogether. At worst...well, Golbez wouldn't have to
worry about losing his life over it.

The sorcerer walked down the path toward the castle.
Since the second defeat of Zeromus, he had taken to
not wearing his traditional dark, horned, shadowy helm
when not in battle. He did so partly as a measure to
allow people to trust him more. When he wore the
helm, his face became obscured by shadows and the
complete set of armor made him a fearsome sight to
anyone. When he went without his helmet, few failed
to notice that, despite his very stoic outward
appearance, he was troubled. Many speculated that the
ghosts and the blood of his past still plagued him.

Golbez's gaze was thoughtful as he approached the
castle entrance...

"....found you!" A dragoon came running up. "Commander?"
Mana blinked out of her daze. "Eh? Yes?"
The dragoon and the dark knight looked at Mana a little suspicious.
"Are you all right Commander?"
"Yup! See?" she waved her arms energetically.
Both soldiers looked at each other then at Mana.
"Oh! Seeing as how the Castle is now rebuilt, I would like you to
ask Instructor Vesta to discuss military training with Sir Golbez."
Both soldiers groaned.
"Hey! We haven't done any training for over half a year! We cannot
allow ourselves to become soft now can we? Besides The knights
should move back into the castle! I don't know how much the Manor
can take from you guys!"
"We're not that bad are we? I mean the Manor is still standing..."
"I was just kidding but really...we should resume life like nothing
happened..."
"But that's a little hard to do..."
"I know," Mana said as her gaze went downwards.
"I'll get the Instructor," said the dark knight before he left.
( ..it will be like nothing happened...)
Mana blinked trying to clear her vision which was starting to blur.
"Commander?"
"Huh? Can ....I..." Mana felt like she was falling backwards. 'Huh?'
"Commander?!" the frantic voice calling out was the last thing she
heard before everything went black.

"As you can see...Baron Castle is as good as new. In fact with the
help of Cid with Edgar's advice the castle is more sturdy and has
many improvements. For example," the dragoon showed Rosa the main
bathroom.
"Water is more easily pumped into the tub and sinks..." the dragoon
went on and on describing in detail everything about the castle.
Rosa just smiled a nodded.
"Of course we are going to have to import some tapestries but
Commander Mana said we should let you decide how to decorate the
castle. Something about a woman's touch was needed...whatever that
means..." the dragoon scratched his head.
Rosa let out a slight giggle.
The dragoon just smiled as he continued the tour.

"Oh? This is unusual. Something must've caught your eye there for
you to want to go back *there*."
The shrouded figure nodded. "I saw a man."
"And?"
"I thought he was interesting. He is living with them. He may be
this Golbez that was the cause of so much trouble in the past."
"I see. Do you think he could be a threat?"
"He could've taken over the world if he wanted to. He is now in a
position to do so again if he does wish to do so."
"I see. Well come back home safely then."

"Commander?" the dragoon held the fallen girl and gently slapped her
on the face. "Wake up..."
A fully suited up and masked dark knight watched the scene but
decided to ignore the scene and followed Golbez. He had his hidden
dagger ready and waiting for the perfect time to strike...

Chrissa lightly laughed along with Garret, nodding and agreeing
whenever needed, then Garret had left, appearently in the direction
of the Mist Cave. She sighed, putting her helmet back on as she made
her way back to the hovercraft.
"He was a friendly fellow." Edward chuckled a bit. "So what did he
mean by the stay 'healthy' part?" he asked.
Chrissa shook her head, hopping back into the hovercraft. "Don't
ask." she giggled.
The hovercraft started off again, and in a few moments, they could
sight Baron Castle. Chrissa remained quiet for the rest of the ship.
She was well aware of what Golbez had done unto Edward, and though
the dark sorcerer was a reformed man now, Edward wouldn't be able to
forget.
They stopped a little ways from the castle, as Edward gave a
whistle. "Wow.. They've done a pretty good job. The castle looks
better than ever." Edward said. Then he glanced over at the entrance,
sighting a black haired man entering. Though the king didn't
reconize Golbez without his helmet, the sorcerer still gave him
chills.
Chrissa glanced over at the town, which was also under
reconstruction. She swallowed, knowing that her parents, whom once
lived there, were now laid to rest there. After the business with the
queen was done, she had planned to go and visit the graves of her
parents, and her former commander...
"Let's go, Chrissa. From what your friend said.. Rosa needs some
friends right now." Edward tried to smile, but wondered how much Rosa
must be going through right now. Chrissa nodded, and they went and
started looking around for the queen.

"Wait! Wait!"

Runic's had tried to wave down the passing hovercraft, but had no
luck in turning them around. "Damn, I bet they had tools too," he
said, kicking the broken down hovercraft. "Don't be so impatient,
Runic," His caretaker Alex had tried calming him down, but Runic's
temper showed easily. "Well, what would you suggest?" Runic said,
sitting down up against the side of the damaged hovercraft.

"Well, you could go after that chocobo rider that headed off towards
the Mist Cave..." Runic wasn't too thrilled with the idea,
saying, "Yeah give me the hard job... What are you going to be
doing?" Alex pointed off towards the Hovercraft, "I'm assuming they
are heading to Baron, so I will go to Baron to see if we can get
help there." Runic started looking through his supplies. He sighed,
putting everything back into his bag. "Well, I have enough supplies
to last me to the next town. I suppose we should meet at Baron if we
lose eachother."

Alex picked up his things and started walking towards Baron. "Don't
get yourself in trouble now... and here's your sword." He threw him
his blade, and made off towards Baron.

"Well, I guess I should get to the Mist Cave..."

Garret smiled. So Chrissa was okay after all. Things were pretty
messed up for those with Dragoon status for quite sometime and
before that, Baron was pretty messed up. He was glad she was okay.
As he continued along on his journey towards Mist, Garret had the
feeling he was being followed. "Well Boko," he said quietly. "Looks
like someone wants to play with us. Let's see how persistant they
are..."

The knights saw the Damcyan envoy and started to panic. "Crap, we
can't meet the King of Damcyan like this! Someone take Mana to the
infirmary until she wakes up and some of you guys should greet the
King of Damcyan!"
The Knights scrambled up and greeted those that came from Damcyan.
"Welcome to Baron! The Queen is currently on tour of the Castle and
we will escort you for the rest of the way until she is finished
with her tour. Is this acceptable to you?"

The Dark Knight just continued to follow Golbez around the Castle.
"Hey you guys!"
The Dark Knight turned around. It was Cid.
"Golbez and Sir Knight behind him. Can you guys lift this for me? I
would do it myself but you know..."
"Old age?" the Dark Knight asked quietly.
"Hell no!" retorted Cid. "Fine! I'll lift it myself! I'll show you!"
Cid proceeded to lift the item in question and hurt his back in
doing so. "YEEEOUCH! My back!!!"
The Dark Knight sighed and forced Cid's back, back into place. "Be
careful next time..."
"Well if you'd helped me before this wouldn't have happened!" Cid
looked at Golbez. "Dontcha got healing magic or something? How dare
you leave my precious back in the hands of a Dark Knight who knows
nothing about being gentle!!!"
The Dark Knight didn't say anything but kept an eye on Golbez from
behind his mask...

OOC: >< sorry for not posting lately- family reunion [insert shudder
here]. Anyways the winner of the DD contest is serena3_2. Congrats
and your prize is on it's merry way! Thank you to all those who
participated. The next contest is going to be in either October or
November.

Golbez kept walking through the castle, deliberately leading the Dark
Knight on a long trek through the halls. He knew the man was
following him and had a very good suspicion that his tail had
malicious intent. The sorcerer smiled.

Quietly, he strode to the basement, where the spirit of Odin once
rested. This, like the rest of the castle, had to be reconstructed
and Odin no longer dwelled within. Also, as before, this section of
the castle was almost always deserted. It was the perfect place for
his stalker to confront him...And vice versa.

Golbez walked to the center of the chamber and turned around. "You
have been following me for quite some time," the sorcerer smiled
darkly, "Now is your chance to make your move."

The Knight stopped in his tracks and smiled behind his mask.
"I was wondering when you were going to stop.Walking around this
castle gets boring after some time eh? What move do you intend for
me to make?"
The Knight tilted his head slightly. "Oh dear me...I think you
misunderstand me Golbez. I am following you because I am worried
that the Queen's head advisor might be in danger. Afterall, you, not
too long ago were quite the menace to this world. People find it
hard to forget you know. That and considering the fact that the two
of the three who vouched for your character are now dead and not
everyone agrees on how they died, does not help your case any."
The Dark Knight started pacing from side to side while keeping his
distance.
"But knowing how you think...do you plan to kill me here dear
Golbez? Tsk for shame of the brother of the late King! To spill
blood in this holy place!"

OOC: Good Job Serena... I knew you would win!! We'll see who wins

BIC: "Well, I could have sworn he looked right at me... why would
he keep going..." Runic came to a stop and sighed. He had hoped the
chocobo rider would come to his aid. He soon became frustrated with
the situation. "I suppose I should follow him in then." He adjusted
his clothes and reposition his sword, then proceeded into the
cave. 'I am used to being alone... I don't need anyone to help me
anyway!'

Alex soon found himself at the ruins of Baron City. The shambled
buildings put a gloomy look on the rest of the Castle. Though the
Castle looked just as it did before the damage, the memory of it all
would never be the same.

'Here lies King Cecil Harvey of Baron and General Kain Highwind.
Both taken away from us too soon by cruel fate. May you find peace
and happiness in death that you weren't allowed to find in life.'

Alex stared at the Marble Engraving for a few moments, then
proceeded into the castle grounds...

Edward gave a nod to the knights. Thank you, that would be very
kind." the Damcyan king smiled, as he, Chrissa, and the other
soldier, who was driving, went and followed the knights.
Chrissa continued to gaze around the castle. It seemed like so much
as changed. Then again, the last time she had been to Baron was a
little after Cecil had become king, and she had joined the envoy that
went to celebrate his and Rosa's wedding. Now that king was gone.
She also remembered how much Rosa loved him from their old white
magic classes. <So we should do our best to comfort her.> she told
herself.

"Well Boko, the man is still following us," Garret quietly
said. "The cave is filling with more mist. This can work to our
advantage. Just in case Boko, if something bad happens, get help
okay?"
As the mist became more thick and almost blocked everything from
sight, Garret jumped high as the cave would let him and landed
behind the man following him.
"Well hello there Sir," he began. There was a hint of malicious
intent in Garret's voice. If the man said or did something wrong,
well...
"You've been following me for a while. Do you have something to say
to me?"

"Miss Highwind, please wake up. It will not do for the person in
charge of security to be passed out in the infirmary." The man
chuckled as he finished speaking.
'Who? I know this voice...' Mana slowly blinked. She saw a blurry
image of a man getting a cold cloth ready. She tried to get up but
found it made her more dizzy.
"I didn't say 'get up'," the man chuckled again. "I said wake up.
Here," he put the cold cloth on her forehead. "You shouldn't over do
it. You and the Queen have both been through a lot. It's okay to
show your weak side sometimes."
"But..." Mana's vision started to clear up enough to see blue eyes
of a Dark Knight looking down on her. 'I know those eyes...'
When her vision completely cleared, she found herself alone in the
room. She held the cloth in her hand.
"Sir are you all right?" A Dark Knight walked in. "The people from
Damcyan are here to greet us."
"Where was the man that was in this room?" asked Mana.
"Huh? What man? I and another soldier were guarding this room. No
one was in here."
Mana blinked quickly in confusion. 'I was so sure...' "Nevermind.
Where are the people of Damcyan now?"
"They are on tour right now. The Queen as not met with them either."
"I see. Alright then, I'll find Rosa and we'll meet up with the
people of Damcyan." The Dragoon Commander walked very quickly out to
find Rosa.

Several dragoons who were still working outside noticed a man
approaching.
"Well hello there stranger! Can we help you?"

The Dark Knight who had followed Golbez smiled behind his mask. No
matter what Golbez did to him...it was a win-win situation for the
Knight.
"They know I am here..." he said quietly.
Suddenly he threw a dagger at Golbez and then did his dark knight
technique.
"Does someone like you deserve a second chance?" asked the Dark
Knight. "Does someone like you who appears to regret nothing be
allowed to live?"

The cave was full with Mist when Runic had entered. He couldn't see
the man on the chocobo anywhere around. 'What was that?' Runic's
hand went to his sword as he quickly turned towards the noise.

"Well hello there Sir," a man's voice said maliciously, "You've been
following me for a while. Do you have something to say to me?"

"I do, in fact." Runic's hand slowely released the hilt of his
blade. He noded to the man. "Our hovercraft broke down a while back,
towards Baron, and I've never really been out this far from Fabul,
so I was wondering if I could get your help to the next town?"

In the blink of an eye, Golbez had pulled his Night
Sword from its sheath, deflected the dagger and stood
against the technique. Dark energy was wasted on him.
He was an essence of darkness itself.

"So you presume to be my judge, jury, and
executioner?" he asked smoothly. A simple Warp spell
took him from where he stood and deposited him behind
the Dark Knight, effectively blocking off his
opponent's escape route.

"A pity you cannot carry out the sentence you have
passed. And a shame you know so little about me."
The Night Sword's blade emanated waves of eldritch,
black energy as Golbez pointed the tip right at the
back of the Dark Knight's neck.

The Dark Knight didn't even bother to move. He just stood there
smiling behind his mask.
"I don't presume anything Golbez," he said calmly. "Do you think I
care if I can't run?"

Mana ran around looking for Rosa.
"Hey! Mana! Don't run! You just fainted!" said a dragoon.
"But the people of Damcyan are here and..." the commander looked
around. "Has Golbez greeted them yet? He's next in rank after Rosa."
The dragoon scratched his head. "Golbez? I don't think so. Last I
saw, I think he went to inspect the lower floors of the Castle."
"Okay, please greet the people from Damcyan and take care of their
needs until either Rosa or Golbez or I greet them alright?"
"Understood!"
Mana then ran to the lower floors of the Castle.
"Don't run...." the dragoon yelled after her.

"I know enough about you," said the Dark Knight calmly. "I am not
the last one..."
"Golbez? Are you down here?" Mana's yelling could be heard. "We have
to greet the people of Damcyan!"
The Dark Knight sheathed his sword and put his hands in the air. He
smiled.
Mana came down the stairs and saw Golbez and the Dark Knight.
"Golbez....?"
"Better run Commander," said the Dark Knight faking fear in his
voice. "He planned to kill me where no one could see."
Mana blinked in confusion. "I don't understand..." She looked at
Golbez waiting for an explaination.

BIC: Rosa smiled at the idea of decorating the castle.

"Yes, a woman's touch would be nice..."

She murmured this to herself almost unaware that the dragoon was
nearby. She began to get faint from the heat.

"Thanks for going into detail on everything that's been going on. I
would like to travle to the nearest town to pick up supplies for the
castle soon. Now, I think I shall go inside and rest. This heat is
not helping my skin much."

She cracked a smile at her lame attempt at a joke.

Garret eased up and laughed. "Well if that is all then you should've
made more of a commotion!" the dragoon boy slapped the man hard in
the back. "I am currently heading to Mist so I guess I can help you
but Mist isn't good for hovercraft repairs. How about this instead?
After we are done business in Mist, you can come with me to Baron. I
am sure Cid can help repair your vehicle."

Cid noticed the Damcyan envoy was now touring the castle and went
out to greet them. "Hello there!" he called out. He stopped
tinkering with an airship part and held out his oil slicked hand to
Chrissa to shake. "Welcome to Baron!"

The dragoon with Rosa cracked a smile. "Everything has been taken
care of Queen. Garret is currently getting supplies and trust me,
Commander Mana gave him an extensive list," the dragoon chuckled.
The dragoon looked out the window and saw Cid talking with the
people from Damcyan. "Looks like your work is never finished." He
pointed to the new arrivals. "Shall we go see them? I am sure they
came all this way to see you."

Runic took suprise to the man's friendly gestures, after the cocky
attitude he showed moments before. He relaxed and let his sword slip
back down into its case. "I'd be glad to assist you with your
business in Mist for your help in exchange." Runic stopped in place
for a moment to think. 'Baron...I think Alex said he was heading to
Baron... I wonder what he's doing...'

Alex soon found himself near the entrance to the Castle. "Seems
pretty..." Just as he was about to say something he heard some noise
from around the corner. He ducked down and snuck around the corner
to see what the commotion was. There seemed to be a large group of
people walking towards the doors. 'Is that the group from Damcyan?
I'll just try to blend in...' He stayed low up until the last few
people were passing and he made his move. He slighly made his way
into the middle of the moving crowd. 'What am I doing?!?'

"Good day Cid." Edward said. Chrissa, not minding the oil mess,
shook Cid's hand warmly.
"How long has it been, Cid? I almost thought you would have bit the
dust at your age." Chrissa laughed. Then she quickly shook her
head. "Would you excuse me for just a second..?" with that, Chrissa
quickly turned, and crossed her arms towards Alex. "And who're you? I
keep track of my soldiers very well, and you don't fit into this
crowd." she said, very sternly. With all the happenings, it had paid
to be cautious and aware of every detail. Esspecially with those
bounties that used to be out.
Edward glanced around nervously. This wasn't the first event he
planned to happen. It had actually been very easy to sight him among
the Damcyan group, since it had only consisted of three people.
Hopefully, it was just some stranger who had no violent ideas
whatsoever.

'Damn, I knew this was a bad idea...' Alex stood calmly and thought
for a minute. "Actually I wasn't sure where the Entrance to the
castle was, this being my first visit to Baron since the darkness
was here... The shambled village is like a maze" He smirked for a
minute, as if trying to make an impression. "I actually am holding a
message for the queen from King Yang of Fabul. I was informed that
the Queen is still here at the castle and schedualed to meet with
somebody from Damcyan, so I thought..."

Cid smiled and returned Chrissa's firm handshake. He even gave
Edward a hearty slap on the back.
"It's great that you came! Rosa could use the company and I bet Mana
and Garret as well as the rest of the Knights would love seeing you
again Chrissa. It's been a long time huh? Well don't be a stranger!
And I am still young! It's going to be a long time before your Uncle
Cid ever gets old!" he gave a boastful laugh.
"Rosa should be done her tour soon. You guys came just in time. We
just finished the Castle. The town is our next priority. Well I
gotta get back to work. Talk to you guys at dinner maybe if I
finish." With that, Cid whistled and went back to working on the
repairs.

The dark knight stood still trying to look as innocent as possible
wondering who the Commander would believe; a fellow knight or a
former evil such as Golbez?

Garret just blinked in disbelief. "Is that all? You wanted my help.
You should've definitely made more of a commotion instead of just
following me like a shadow! Dragoon Knights have reasons to be jumpy
of people following them you know! Well we're almost out of Mist
Cave. I might be a while in Mist see..." Garret pulled out a scroll
and unravelled it. The length of the scroll was so long it
disappeared into the Mist.
"My Lady gave me a VERY long list of supplies to get eh heh heh,"
Garret let out a small laugh. "So it might take a while but don't
worry, I work fast..."

muttered, and sheathed his sword. "Then I'd be

The sorcerer motioned to the small blade that lay on
the floor where he had deflected it.

"Mana, let us go," he said, "We don't have time for
this. Rosa awaits us."

Rosa blushed in embaressment.

"Yes, I shouldv'e figured as much. Everyone is always quicker with
the plans then I am with thinking them up. I guess I have been a bit
distracted."

She looked over to where the dragoon was looking at.

'I must look horrible, though. I don't want to see friends like
this...'

Her dress was sticking to her thin body and her hair was looking
rather matted.

"Yes, I am sure we should go and greet them."

Rosa concealed her uncomfortableness the best way she could. After
all, queens always had duties to attend to whether they wanted to or
not.

"Is this true?" Mana looked at the Dark Knight and demanded an
answer.
"Do you think I have a wish to die?" asked the Dark Knight. "Besides
who are you going to believe? Me, a fellow Knight or him - the one
that took your brother away from you?"
Mana was becoming confused and a little scared.
Golbez didn't want to waste anytime on the matter and Mana didn't
want to think about it. As they both left the area, the Dark Knight
said "Think about it Commander. I am only looking out for your
interests..."

After they were far enough away from the area, Mana asked
Golbez, "Are you all right? You aren't hurt anywhere? I am so sorry
that a thing as this has happened to you. I shall order more
security officers to be placed around you. Anyways not only is Rosa
waiting but the envoy from Damcyan. It does not do for the man that
is second in rank to the Queen be late to greet them!"

After a while, the Dark Knight that attacked Golbez went to retrieve
his weapon.
Another Dark Knight stepped out from the shadows. "He didn't kill
you."
"No he didn't."
"Maybe because that girl inturupted?"
"Maybe..."
"Looks like we should be more agressive in our efforts."
"I cannot stand Golbez...he is too close to the Queen. If something
were to happen to her..."
"Golbez is next in line, yes? What about the Highwind clan?"
"Golbez is a blood relation to the former King..."
"I see..."

Mana and Golbez eventually found the touring people from Damcyan.
Mana held Golbez by his right hand very tightly as she led him to
the group like a little kid leading and took make Golbez seem more
friendly as she had a feeling the King of Damcyan would not greet
Golbez warmly. Sure Golbez was scary but every had to get along for
the sake of Rosa and the business of rebuilding Baron.
"Your Majesty King Edward of Damcyan, I, Commander Mana Hiryuu
Highwind, greet and welcome you to Baron Castle. It is an honour
that you have graced us with your presence," she said as she bowed
and saluted.

Golbez gave Mana a look that said "I must speak with
you very soon" and then stood to attention. As the
Queen's chief military advisor, he could do no less

king. Golbez was willing, however, to take this in
stride.

"On behalf of Queen Rosa and the people of this land,
I welcome you to Baron," Golbez said formally, bowing
just slightly in acknowledgement of Edward. He wanted
to make a decent impression, if for nothing else than
to show he wasn't entirely the same man that had been
possessed by Zemus. "We have been anticipating your
arrival and are pleased to see that you have made it
here safely."

Edward felt a chill as he saw Golbez again. That was the last person
he had expected to see, and Edward froze, just staring stunned. The
memories flooded his head, and the hate seemed to well up inside.
Finally, Edward seemed to find reality again, and also gave a short
bow to him and to Mana.
"It's.. an honor to be here.." Edward said, the lightness removed
from his voice, and the words coming out as if forced. Edward knew
Golbez wasn't the same man, but he could never forget the deaths
Golbez had brought. His mother, father, and many friends had died as
well as Anna in the attack.
Still, if Golbez could act accordingly, so could he.
Chrissa sighed. <Please don't have them get in a fight..> she
thought to herself.

Swish! Swish! Swish!

Vesta slashed and twirled her metal spear as her thoughts whirled in
almost simultaneous union. She was in a small forest near the manor
but she could still hear the rambuncteous roar of the manor. Vesta
smirked wryly to herself. Those fools, she mused. Talk political
rhetorics, ceremonies and slap yourselves in 'victory' all you want.
The first war was pure luck. The coming battle...one that was so
near that she could even smell its coming, would be the true test.
One that only those with the TRUE skills and dedication would survive.
Vesta was one of those dedicated to the Art, not royalty, alliences,
false talks of dipolmacy and what else. Empires fall...the Arts are
timeless. Baron belived such similar philosophies once...not too long
ago, mused Vesta. Now, that idea is lost and if not regained, she had
no reason to stay in Baron and continue teaching.

Once Baron had been mighty with a allience of triple power of
Darknights, dragoons and the air force...now only a scatter...a sham
of what was once great...one that she had a great hand in building.
Vesta could feel the fear, the fragilness of the scattered empires
left after the war against the zemus. We should be fortifying the
nations not attempting by talking politics, she spat. Oh well, thought
Vesta. When the power shifts again, she will move along with it. She
left the choice clear with Baronions long ago and again with her
students recently. If they refused to do anything about it, she was
not to blame.

So party all night long fools, thought Vesta. For when the dawn
eventually rises...many will not see it....

Mana noticed how uncomfortable Edward was and she understood how he
felt.
'But...Golbez isn't the same man...he's different than from
before...he has to be...'
She moved slightly in front of Golbez as if to block the tall man
from being directly in front of Edward.
"Chrissa, it's been a while hasn't it?" Mana tried to make
conversation to lighten the tense mood. "Maybe after we are all done
with the formal introductions, you and I can get together later for
some girl chat." The Dragoon Commander winked.
"King Edward, it really is an honour that you have come here. I do
appologize for being so late to greet your person. If you would
like, some dragoons can escort you and your company around the rest
of the Castle. Chrissa, after you are done with your tour, if you
would like to meet me in front of the castle? Sir Golbez and I have
some important matters to discuss and do not wish to bore or take up
your precious time." Mana bowed once more and she and Golbez left
the Damcyan envoy with a squad of Dragoons.
"King Edward, feel free to lead and we will advise you of anything
you wish to know," said the squad leader.

"What is it that you wish to discuss with me Sir Golbez?" Mana asked
when the two were far enough away from everyone else.

The knight found Vesta training near Highwind Manor.
"Instructor!" the knight called out. "Commander Mana wishes that you
speak with Sir Golbez in matters of restarting training of the
knights as soon as possible as well as to greet the Damcyan envoy
that is visiting Baron. Please do hurry Instructor - I have a
feeling that you are late already and it does not make for a good
impression to the King of Damcyan. People of Baron cannot be
considered rude by others!"

Garret had gotten most of the supplies and was carrying them in a
large sack that would make even Santa jealous. He looked at his
bewildered traveling companion and smiled. "Ready to go to Baron?"

Chrissa smiled and nodded. "That would be great, Mana." she laughed.
Edward watched silently as the dragoon and sorceror went off. His
shoulders finally untensed as he let out a sigh. Chrissa put a hand
on his shoulder, hoping it would offer some support.
King Edward finally turned back towards the dragoons. "... Well, I'd
like to pay my respects, actually." he said, starting up the way to
the gravestone of the late King Cecil and Dragoon Kain.

Vesta saw the lone messanger knight run across to the field towards
her, just as she was about to jump. Barely catching his breath, the
knight mumbled something about formal greetings....Damcyan....being
impolite...bla bla bla. Struggling to retain her composure and
prevent herself from rolling her eyes, she let herself to be lead by
the nervous knight into the manor.

Stars burst in front of her eyes as her sight struggled to adapt to
the interior light of the manor. Vesta spotted some Damcyan officals
and other foriegn colours. She wasn't impressed by the razzle-dazzle.
In fact, she always thought Damcyan were weaklings. A fading power
struggle that started years before even Golbez ruin it. Public
displays of family feuding over their private interests...heir-the
then Prince Edward pursuing poetry...yeah.... one certainly did not
have to be a political genious to see THIS one coming a mile away, she
chuckled. As far as she was concerned, Damcyan is a weak nation,
one that is available to the highest bidder in the next major
Empire. Now, she was to extend her...what, gratitude? Respect?
Curtesty? She didn't think so.

Vesta knew Golbez probably wanted to speak to her about training and
so forth but she figured he'd know that she'd know. She wasn't
ditching her duties or anything, but what was the point? Everyone knew
where to find her when and if they wanted to discuss REAL issues.

So, Vesta muttered some half-hearted, poor excuse that only a first
year cadet would buy (like the one leading her now), and excused
herself to her quarters. Well, next time, she thought, she would have
to make a mental note not to make her practise areas as well known...

The knight that went to fetch Vesta let out a huge sigh. "Argh why
me of all people. That instructor is sooo....argh!!!" He stormed off
to find Commander Mana to report that his duty was carried out.

The dragoons looked at each other after Edward made his
request. "Um...yes. We understand. We will lead the way..."
The squad surrounded the Damcyan envoy and lead them to the memorial
at the weeping willow tree just outside of Baron's old city limits.
There was actually two memorials - one for the deceased townspeople
and one for Kain and Cecil.
"Here we are," the squad leader said as he pointed to Kain's and
Cecil's marble boulder marker.
The dragoons felt extremely uncomfortable being here and moved back
a bit to give the guests room to pay their respects.

Edward nodded to the dragoons, then went down on his knees in front
of Cecil's and Kain's marker, praying silently. He had a lot of
respect for them, especially Cecil. He doubted he would have ever
found courage within himself had Cecil not encouraged him on, and
showed it to him.
Chrissa also prayed by the graves. Kain had been her former
commander, and she often had relied on him when there was trouble of
any sort. She wasn't half as familar with Cecil, but knew him to be a
good man as well. Then she turned to the one for the deceased
townpeople. That would have included her mother, and father... She
could only thank heaven that her brother hadn't been killed in the
attack against Baron.
Edward waited a few moments for Chrissa, then the two of them went
back over to the dragoons. "Thank you." he said. There was silence
again, then Edward finally took a breath. "Let's go back and look
over the ramparts.. We may be able to see the reconstruction of the
town from there." he said.

Runic nodded. Yeah, I think I got all the supplies I will need for
the time being, until we reach Baron. I have a companion that awaits
my arrival there. I hope the Queen is most pleased with the news
King Yang bears..." He tightened his supply bag and adjusted his
sword. 'I wonder what she is doing...'Runic thought about his former
companion quite often. The tall beautiful girl, Adrian, he had first
met outside Fabul quite some time ago. 'I have to stop thinking so
much.' Runic sighed and continued on with Garret.

Alex had left the Damcyan convoy a little after the confrontation
with their commander. "I knew I was gonna get caught... It's great
knowing the ties Yang has with Baron." He had wondered the castle
for quite a while, looking at the knewly built structures and empty
hallways. It had almost looked like nothing had ever happened. If
only that were true he thought.

"I wonder where the Queen is... I must deliver this message to here
quickly..."

Morryigan layed sprawled on the grass. Her head lolled slightly to
one side, as she stared as if in a fixed trace at the clear blue sky.

"Ahem". A cough broke her out of her laze. "Am I interrupting
something....important?" Oskar asked slyly.

"Ah, shaddap," Morryigan retorted, and promptly stood up. "Man,
business is slow these days."

"Well," replied Oskar, not missing a beat of his wry humor. "The
people are mourning after all, and they are rebuilding, and---" He was
cut off again.

"Ah shaddap!" Snapped Morryigan. "Who cares? Just because a bunch of
nobody people died is no reason for plenty of other people to hire for
more!"

"Well..." said Oskar with some humour, wondering if this might be
pushing the last straw...."They weren't really 'nobody' people. The
Heroes of the moon, important Baronians..."

Evidently, that was the last straw. Fuming, Morryigan stormed off.
Oskar chuckled to himself. 'Business' as Morryigan referred, was
indeed lagging a bit, he thought to himself...not that he really did
much. Morryigan always pointedly called him a coward to try and taunt
him to part-take in her 'life of crime', but she herself knew it was
pointless. She knew very well she might as well ask a rock to
participate. All he did was write down their 'adventures'. But that
was Morryigan's style.

That Oskar....he really knew how to push her the wrong way! Fumed
Morryigan. That freeloader. Maybe if he participated in the jobs,
they wouldn't be strapped for cash. But, no...she thought. Always
writing...staring...writing...staring...writing. Ha! She knew his
secret! He claimed all he does is write, but she knew that he longed
to do the acts she carried out so easily. Maybe she would test him
out in the next job...maybe....Or was it just her arrogance in
thinking that everyone liked to stoop to her level? And she herself
knew she did stoop to a level since her departure from Eblan. To late
to change. Better to swim ahead than go back. No matter. Business
was business. She had to be extra watchful and shrewed recently. The
world was feeling a little edgy, and she would have to be also extra
careful in the jobs she chose.

"Finally," Vesta muttered. "I got rid of that pestulent kid." She
wondered if she herself was that annoying at that age. After some
consideration she came to the conclusion: Never. She was never that
annoying or that ill...what was the word...equipped? ....Such
a...a...TEENAGER! That's it! That was the best, most appropriate
description AND insult. Shaking her head as if she just surfaced from
a sad, tragic situation, Vesta reached to her quarters.

Ahh......she thought. Even if the rest of the manor went to hell, at
least HER room was up to par. Breathing in the deep, clean aroma from
the room, she started to settle in...

OOC: Yeah pointless post eh. what the hell. 1) I was bored. 2) I
suckered you all into reading it! Hahahhah (*joking*)

OOC: I was waiting for Kain to have the dragoons move Rosa to where
she is expected to be, but since that didn't happen I'm going to wing
this post, ks?

BIC: Rosa's chocobo proceeded to lead her away from the sites she had
been observing.

'I really should freshen up before I meet any guests...'

Too late.

Off in the distance Rosa spotted someone else on chocobo. She
couldn't see who it was, but she allowed her animal to move in closer.

'Time to greet some guests!'

Rosa put on a perky smile even though she just wanted to curl up and
sleep in a nice soft bed.

quietly as he and Mana retreated to a secluded
corridor. "The knight in the basement sought my life
for reasons unknown to me."

Golbez shook his head. "Assigning guards to protect
me will be suspicious and those that are assigned may
be in league with the person who attacked me just
now."

The sorcerer took a deep breath before continuing.
"Since Rosa appointed me to my position, I have never
traveled with a retinue of guards. I would prefer not
to start now. I am more than capable of dealing with
any attacks upon my life. However, I would advise
caution and I will speak with the Queen on this matter
as well. Something is amiss here and I intend to find
out what."

Alex had admired the people who had rebuilt the Castle. Their
ambition and loyalty had shown in their work. The changes made to
the castle weren't too dramatic, everything looked as it did before,
but even for a person not familiar with the castle... he could tell.
From upon the second floor, Alex could see the debris all around the
town and castle. He noticed a few chocobos feeding outside. He could
see the mountains in the background, where the sun would soon set.
He noticed somebody traveling on chocobo from afar, but the glare of
the sun put them out of his range. He reached into his bag and
pulled out a small telescope. He extended it and peeked into the
hole.

'... ... It's Rosa!' Alex was in the castle and could have waited
for her, but he wanted to get to her before she met up with anybody
else. He quickly darted accross the hallway and down the stairs. He
dashed in between two people and out the door. He wasn't sure who's
chocobos were outside feeding, but he figured he would have it back
before the owner came back, so he hopped onto one and rode off...

"Rosa, Queen Rosa." Alex gave a small bow with his head as he
approached the Queen. He came to slow pace and stopped next to
Rosa. "My name is Alexander Leviathan. I am a Commander in Fabul, I
come bearing news from King Yang." He reached into his coat and
pulled out a rolled up message, tied with a ribbon, and handed it to
the Queen. She untied the ribbon and unrolled the old paper, looked
at it for a moment, and handed it back to Alex. "What am I to do
with this?"

Alex looked at Rosa then down at the paper. "A Map?" He pondered the
problem for a moment, then sighed shaking his head. "I am sorry
miss. Somehow I must have gotten the map mixed up with the message.
I am sure my apprentice, Runic, has the message from Yang. There is
also a convoy from Damcyan at the castle waiting to speak with you.
Im sure Runic will be here later if you will meet with us."

Subject:  Back at the castle

 

Rosa turned suddenly as she heard someone calling her name.

'What?'

It was a messenger from Fabul.

"Good day to you as well."

The man seemed in a hurry to deliver the message, so she didn't waste
anymore time on useless talking. She wiped her matty hair back and
took the rolled up message from the man named Alexander.

"Thank you for delivering this so promptly."

She read the message slowly and carefully. Her eyes were having
trouble focusing from lack of food and she knew she should get inside
and grab something light to munch on.

'It's a map...but why do I need a map...'

Alex quickly explained the mix-up and she handed it back to him.

"Well, let's adjorn to the castle grounds where I can freshen up and
await the convoy from Damcyan. It must be King Edward."

She began to lead the way back to the castle.

"You should bring your apprentice Runic to me, so I can see what news
comes from my friends in Fabul."

She slowly stepped off the chocobo and tried to not fall over from
dizziness.

"By the way, I like your chocobo."

Rosa recognized the bird as one of hers, and she gave the young man a
wink. She walked inside and waited for him to follow.

"Kickin'," replied Garret as he loaded the rest of the supplies on
Boko.
"Wark..." the chocobo did not appreciate the heavy load.
Garret and Runic started to leave the village when Garret's eyes
caught sight of a wanted poster featuring the faces of Oskar and
Morryigan. Garret clenched his fist and grounded his teeth against
each other. After a moment he regained his composure and smiled
towards Runic.
"I am sure the Queen will love any news from her friends. I have this
feeling that the Queen is in need of some cheering up.

Upon hearing Golbez's words, Mana leaned against the wall, barely
able to stand. "I can't believe this is happening now..." The
Commander held her head as if she was suffering from a severe
headache. She didn't look at Golbez for a while as her eyes were
still shut trying to block some pain in her head.
"I-it's n-not like the knights are going to follow you around and
walk right beside you. I-I trust the knights we work with...I trust
them with my life...maybe the Dark Knight that attacked you was not
one of our own?"
Mana shook her head and looked Golbez directly in the eyes. She had a
look of infinite saddness.
"I will have the knights post higher security but none will follow
you around as you ask. Please don't tell Rosa anything until we have
more evidence. I don't want her to worry about anything. I just want
her to be happy. At least that way one of us will be happy. I am not
going to lose anyone anymore...." her voice was starting to break up
as she felt like crying. 'Breath, just breath...don't cry...not
now...' She quickly turned away. "If I wanted to follow you, would
you let me? Or do you not trust me?"
Mana felt a sharp pain in her head again. She looked around her. The
scenery had changed. She was outside. Mana quickly turned around and
expected to see Golbez behind her. Instead she saw another man - he
reminded her of Golbez. The way he carried himself, the dark aura but
there was a big difference - shining deep blue eyes and a warm smile.
"Is something wrong Mana?" he asked her.
"I-I..."
"Was Baigan bothering you today?"
"No..." Mana looked at herself and notice she was wearing her cadet
uniform. "I had a strange daydream...Cecil and K-chan...were dead and
I was much older talking to a man that reminds me of you."
"Oh, how morbid. Don't worry - Cecil and Kain will never leave you
and neither will I."
"Thanks Zero..." Mana took a step towards the boy.
"Zero...?" Mana said aloud and took a step towards Golbez with her
hand outstretched to see if the boy was real.
"Commander Mana I delivered the message to Instructor Vesta as
ordered. I suggest that Golbez go talk to her as she is not
interested in meeting any officials," said the knight.
Mana snapped out of her daze and nodded. "Acknowledged.
Knight...please escort me to meet with Chrissa Winters of the Damcyan
Guards please..."
"Are you sure you're up to it?" asked the Knight.
"Y-yes..." she turned to Golbez. "Please talk to Vesta about training
the knights as soon as possible..." with that said the knight took
her away.

"Are you sure you should be out of bed walking around like nothing is
wrong?" asked the knight as he lead Mana to where he last remembered
where the Damcyan envoy was going.
"I'm fine...I'm sure some girl talk with a fellow female dragoon will
make me feel better..." Mana replied.
The knight couldn't help but chuckle...

The Damcyan group was soon returning back to the castle, where
Chrissa sighted Mana. She glanced back over at Edward. "Your
highness, if I may be excused?" Chrissa asked.
Edward glanced over to where Mana was, then grinned. "Of course.
You're dismissed." he nodded.
Chrissa quickly gave a bow, then went over to where Mana was. "So
you done with your business with Golbez?" Chrissa asked.

Edward looked around, when he finally sighted.. "Queen Rosa!" Edward
gave a shout, breaking into a run towards the blonde woman. He
stopped soon infront of the chocobo, bowing at the waist. "It's a
pleasure to see you."
That was true in many cases, and though he was glad to see the
queen, he was also worried. She seemed a lot paler, and thinner. But
he should have expected that. Rosa and Cecil loved each other dearly,
and now the paladin king was gone, much how he was separated from...
Edward quickly shook his head clear of these thoughts. It was his
job as a king to help bring hope to all people, by showing a firm
upper lip.

Rosa looked up, startled. It seemed that someone very familiar was
calling her name.

"Is that Edward?" (murmured)

Her eyes focused on Edward who was running towards her chocobo. She
had to settle the small bird before it tried to take off.

"Don't worry, he's a friend..."

For the first time in a long while her face brightened into a genuine
smile.

"The pleasure is mine, I am sure."

She swiftly dismounted, but she felt her legs buckle at the movement.
She had to grip at the chocobo in order to not fall over.

'I musn't let Edward see how weak I am.'

She allowed a guard to take the chocobo after she had regained her
balance. She turned back to Edward and unwanted tears sprang to her
eyes.

"It is really good to see you, believe me..."

She reached forward and gave her friend a hug.

"Come, let's adjorn inside. It is too hot outside her to talk."

Then, realizing how rude she must look, Rosa moved aside to introudce
Alex from Fabul.

"I apologize for the late introductions. This is Alexander from
Fabul."

Concern growing inside him, Edward returned the hug. From the tears
she shed, she must have been trying so hard to cope. Edward knew that
Rosa would need support. Another reason he had came, having the
experince of losing a loved one.
When she introduced the messenger from Fabul, Edward gave a small
chuckle. "Yes, we had met briefly." he gave a nod to Alex, then
looked back to Rosa. "Inside would be just fine." he said. Being from
the desert, he hadn't thought it to be very hot, but then again, it
was warmer than usual at Baron, and Rosa would be more in-tune to
this climate.
The two members of royalty soon started into the castle.

Golbez pondered the dragoon's words. Before he could
answer her question, however, the girl had already
left.

"If you were to ask to follow me, I would allow you
to," the sorcerer said softly, "You and I have seen
far too much."

Without another word, Golbez turned and strode away,
toward the Highwind Manor.

A few inquiries made to guards gave the military
advisor the information he needed. Vesta was back in
her quarters (OOC: That is right, isn't it? Maybe I
misread @_@). The sorcerer did not hesitate a moment
to make his way toward the instructor's door and knock
twice.

"Instructor, I would like to speak with you," Golbez
stated clearly through the door.

Mana smiled energetically at Chrissa as they both found a
comfortable shady spot to sit in overlooking the Castle.
"Sorry for the walk but I wanted to get away from the castle for a
bit," she said. "Yeah I finished my business with Golbez. He's such
a fuddy duddy. So uptight and serious," Mana sighed. "He's
practically the opposite of Garret. Anyways enough about that. So
how have you been? You don't know how glad I am to see you alive and
well considering recent past events! But I shouldn't have worried
should I? We're dragoons! Nothing is going to take us out!"
Mana leaned back against a tree and after a while she spoke
again. "Hey I was thinking...how about we have sort of a girls'
night out? I was thinking you, Rosa and I go to Toroia and check out
the preperations for the upcoming Dragon Festival? Since Baron is
under reconstruction, I've asked the Clerics if they could host it
for us. What do you say?"

"Garret was ever hardly one to be serious, he always reminded me of
Eric, my brother.." Chrissa chuckled, then she sighed. "Yeah, well..
King Edward broke communications for a while because of that. I mean,
not only was I, a commanding officer, a dragoon, but I'm the one
who's training his army now, so what would that affect?" she
said. "But you're right, it's gonna take a little more than a bounty
hunter to take me down."
Chrissa grew somewhat excited about The next thing Mana brought
up. "That would be great. I haven't went to one of those festivals
since.. well.. Since I 'left' the dragoons." she grimaced a little,
but came up smiling again. ".. So.. Um.. I was wondering.. You
haven't seen any signs of my bro, have you? If you remember, he was
formerly a Dark Knight here, but he left about the time that bounty
came up..." she asked, a little hopefully.

BTW-- Were you still interested in playing in my Sailor Moon RPG
group? I know it kinda moves fast, but I am *so* tired of playing
like five characters at a time! *lol* It's so hard to find dedicated
RPGers these days! Let me know what you think via on-line or
something!

BIC: The guards quickly opened the doors for Rosa, Edward, and the
messenger from Fabul. She escorted her guests to the parlor where she
asked them to take a seat. Rosa herself didn't hesitate to take a
seat. The room was much cooler.

'Thank goodness...I thought I was going to faint out there in that
blasted heat.'

Rosa allowed another servant that had entered to serve them all some
chilled drinks. Rosa only took a water fearing her stomach couldn't
handle much more than that. She gulped greedily from the cold glass.

'So much better.'

She wiped some stray locks of white blonde hair from her forehead.
She could feel a bit of grainy salt that had collected there.

'Too gross. *silent sigh* If only sweat was my big problem these
days.'

She put on her friendly smiled as she looked towards her dear friend
Edward. She leaned her head into the soft cushion as she asked him a
question.

"So, what draws you to Baron these days dear Edward?"

Rosa didn't mean to talk so forward to Edward, but formalities seemed
out of place. He was a dear friend and she treated him as thus.

Vesta's eyes started to droop and she started to drift into a slow,
euphoric, wonderful sleep.

Knock Knock.

Vesta's half-closed, slit eyes narrowed at the sound. What kind of
suicidal fool would disturb her in her quarters?? If the moon itself
knocked infront of her door she would not bother. Shifting in a more
comfortable position, she took some sleep-aide potion to knock her
out...the persistant knocking drifting ever slowly, softly away...

"Yeah, never serious types...makes me wonder how they got to be
knights..." Mana nodded as Chrissa explained a few things. "If I was
Edward, I would have done the same thing..." She noticed Chrissa
grimace and put her hand on the other dragoon's shoulder in
understanding. After all, the day Cecil got expelled from Baron was
a day that stuck out clearly in her mind. She and Garret were having
tea with Kain when Cecil had just come back from his mission to
Mysidia. Kain seeing Cecil looking troubled, followed after him.
"Hey Big Brother, what's wrong?," Mana asked as Cecil and Kain came
out of the King's hall and Kain sat back down with them again.
"Nothing, I'll be leaving tomorrow with Cecil to ..."
"Tomorrow?" Garret interrupted. "Something bad happened didn't it?"
Cecil came up to the table, still with the sad look on his
face. "Kain, I'm sorry..."
Kain waved his hand in a non-caring manner. "Don't worry about it.
It's just a simple mission."
Mana tried to lighten up the mood. "Kain's right. You're a great
fighter Cecil and if Kain is working with you, no one can stand in
your way!"
Cecil smiled slightly and headed off.
Kain watched until Cecil was out of sight. "Garret, Mana, I want you
two to get ready to leave Baron as soon as possible and do not come
back."
Garret spit out his tea. "What did you just say?"
"Why K-chan?"
"Just do it please. I don't have time to explain."
Mana and Garret just exchanged looks. "Where should we go?"
Kain didn't look at them. "It's time to put your survival skills to
the test. Try not to stay in a city too long."
"Yes sir," they both said.
Mana shook her head and came back to reality. "Um I am not too sure
Chrissa. I didn't seem him after the incident with Baron. I was
pretty much gone too...but don't worry, I am sure he is fine." Mana
stood up and stretched. "So wanna tell Rosa our plans?"

On his way back to Baron, Garret sneezed. 'Hmm...it's too early for
sniffles and I don't have any allergies....' He walked at a quick
pace because he wanted to get back to Baron as soon as possible with
the supplies from Mist. Any delay in his return would probably cause
him pain as the other knights would get serverely impatient. "Almost
there...just another hour or so..."

"Why do people like to attempt the futile? What is the point of
rebuilding the remains of a pathetic nation? Do people like to feel
helplessness? the pains of futility? Do they like toil? Well...in
that case, should I entertain them?"

Garret had finally made it to Baron and help the Knights unload poor
Boko. "Hey Runic, feel free to wander around. I am sure you'll find
the Queen somewhere, afterall there isn't much of Baron to get lost
in."

Well, about the other RPG... I'll probably have to think it over, but
I might be able to..^_^

IC: Edward sat down, having only water as well. "Well, several
reasons.." he said, glancing over at Rosa. "You probably haven't
heard much from Damcyan since Cecil's.. um.. dragoon bounty.." he
turned and looked into his glass. Despite the fact that Cecil had
indeed seemed to have acted rashly, he didn't want to upset Rosa. "As
for the fact that my whole army has been training under a former
dragoon.. She doesn't try to teach them too many dragoon techinques,
but you could still understand the effect of that bounty over the
whole army. And it just didn't seem... reasonable." he explained.
Then he shook his head.
"Anyway, I was hoping to restablish connections, and find out if
there was anyway we could help with reconstruction." Edward
explained. ".. Also, my captain of guards, Chrissa, wanted to come
back, since she used to live her. I believe you know her from some of
your magic classes..

Chrissa sighed, and smiled back at Mana. "Oh well, he'll get back
here sooner or later.." she laughed, then nodded. "Yeah, Its been a
while since I've seen Rosa also, and I'm sure that'll make her
happy." Chrissa stood up also. "Last one there is a rotten imp!" she
suddenly called, jumping off towards the castle.

OOC: Welcome back chica! If you could re-join as a senshi in the
other RPG it would be great! Let me know what you think. It kinda
moves fast, but if you post at least once a day you will be fine. I
just really need some new RPGers over there!

BIC: Rosa felt her insides tighten as Edward got down to business.

'Why must he bring up *that* matter now?'

Rosa did agree with Edward about the decision being rash, but she
instivtely wanted to side with Cecil, her husband. She had to rely on
her Cecil's judgement, didn't she?

"Re-establishing connections would be fine. I'm sure it would prove
useful in the future."

She began to take on the tone of voice that a political diplomat
might use.

"Although I must insist that Baron would do fine with or without help
from your kingdom. We've been managing just fine up until your offer
and I am sure we can continue to do so if necessary."

Rosa had naturally gone a bit cold towards Edward because of what he
had said and what it might refer to Cecil as being. The mention of
Chrissa being in the castle surprised Rosa.

"Really? Chriss is here? Of course I remember her. It would be nice
to see her again and mayhap catch up on some lost time."

Edward glanced off, clearing his throat. He could tell that he had
indeed said a little too much toward Cecil, even though he had tried
to say the least. The damcyan king still did respect the past
paladin, but he couldn't just put Cecil's severe actions out of mind.
Those whom forget the past are doomed to repeat it, as the saying
goes. ".. Right.." Edward just sighed, not wishing to cause any more
problems for Rosa. Everyone has their limits, even her, and who knows
how they've been pushed already. "Anyway, Chrissa is off with Mana
right now. She'll probably be back soon.."

Rosa instantly felt remorseful for her chilled reaction to Edward as
soon as she felt the friedly atmosphere go down quite a bit.

'Well, it's not like I can take it back without making myself seem
like a fool,' she thought remorsely.

She picked up her water and took a drink from it.

<"Anyway, Chrissa is off with Mana right now. She'll probably be back
soon..">

"Would you like a room, so you might freshen up from your journey?"
She directed this question to both of the men seated in front of
her. "You could take a small nap, or I could have food brought up to
you."

She smiled softly offering the chance of rest as an olive branch
between her and Edward.

Alex did not know what to say to the group. He was a little
emberassed be the Damcyan group, who's commander had caught him
sneaking into the castle with the others. Rosa, on the other hand,
seemed to give him the little comfort he had. The beautiful woman,
yet a little frail in figure, was a friend to everyone whom had been
in the room. He didn't understand the subliminals between Rosa and
Edward, but they still seemed to be long friends. He was also
wondering what could be taking Runic so long. The Village Mist
wasn't that far away, and even with supplies the journey isn't too
far.

"Hey! Cheater! Head start! No fair!" Mana called after Chrissa as
the other dragoon left. "But you may be more correct about the
rotten imp part than you know..." Mana said to herself as she walked
towards Baron Castle again not caring when she got there. She looked
briefly to where Cecil and Kain were supposed to be burried. Little
did anyone know, there were no bodies underneath that giant
monolith. "I'll probably end up in hell for what I am going to do. I
just hope everyone understands why I did what I did."

Garret met with some of the other soldiers to have them help put
away the new supplies and decided to drop in on Rosa. "Everyone's
probably meeting her anyway. Sigh, I am SO glad I am not royalty.
Can't take the freakin' pressure." Garret had brought up some
freshly baked cookies and pasteries with him. He headed towards the
parlor and didn't bother to knock. Instead he kicked the door
open. "HEY EVERYONE!!" he said rather loudly as he brought in the
food. "Thought you guys would be hungry so I brought y'all some
munchies!" Garret laid the tray full of munchies in front of
everyone. "If you guys need anything else just send someone. Got
some business to take care of first."
The dragoon boy headed back down and found Golbez standing outside
Vesta's room. Garret sighed. "Hey creepy pretty boy! What's up?
Problems?" He stood in front of the door and kicked it down. "WAKEY
VESTA! Get off your butt! You could at least answer! You're making
the rest of us look bad and since you ARE an instructor I think you
SHOULD know that you should obey those that outrank you," he said
while pointing to Golbez. 'Man, I can't believe I am saying this...'

Chrissa anywhere. "I must've taken too long...Maybe she went to see
Rosa." The Commander went up to the parlor room after another
dragoon told her where everyone was. As she got there, she noticed
the closed door was slightly unhinged. "..." 'Garret...do you know
how to use a door at all?' She slowly knocked on the door and opened
it. "Excuse me...Queen Rosa? May I come in?"

BIC: Rosa smiled sweetly. She was more than happy that her little
piece offering had taken hold.

'I don't want to bare any grudges against you Edward,' her eyes said
silently.

She stood up and smoothed the skirt of her dress as she laughed at
what Edward had said concerning Alex.

"Maybe he is one of those silent types."

The smile and laugh had been genuine and Rosa was a bit surprised at
how odd those sounds sounded as they fell from her lips.

'I have not laughed or *really* smiled since...since...'

Her thoughts were interuppted by a loud burst as Garret burst through
the parlor door without even knocking. Rosa gave him a glare.

'I'm entertaining guests and look at his rudeness!'

Before Rosa could utter a word of complaint Garret was already gone.
He left in his wake a plate full of warm, freshly baked cookies.

Rosa gave a nervous laugh.

"He's such a joker that one."

To hide her embaressment she picked up the tray of cookies and
offered some to both Alex and Edward.

"They are delicious and would be a perfect snack before you both go
freshen up to relax and such."

Rosa looked back at the door and realized that Garret had caused it
to fall off its hinges a bit.

'That is going to be an annoying detail I'm going to have to remember
to get fixed.'

She was surprised when a knock sounded from the broken door and
Mana's voice spoke up requesting permission to enter.

'At least someone still have manners these days.'

She blew a lock of her blonde hair off her forehead.

"Of course you may enter Mana. Just be careful the door doesn't fall
on you when you push it open. Here, let me help you."

Rosa set the tray of cookies down on the table and carefully held the
door back so Mana could enter.

"I was about to take my guests to their chambers so they could retire
and freshen up."

Edward gave a laugh, taking one of the cookies. "I'm sure every army
has their own Garret in it." he said. The king smiled when Mana came,
but then some concern crossed his face. "Mana... Wasn't Chrissa with
you?" he asked.

"I am SO sorry! But I'm in a hurry right now." Chrissa said for about
the hundredth time. Little after she had started away from Mana, she
had glanced back, wondering where the other Dragoon was, and why she
wasn't keeping up. But in that moment she had looked away, she had
almost landed on someone whom was passing by.
It was an eblan girl, dressed like a ninja, called Carasha. "Yeah,
well, just to avoid getting smashed by you, I had to drop my basket
of apples, and I'm not letting you off until you help me find every
single one!" Carasha shook her head.
Chrissa groaned. Even if she had walked the whole way, she would
have reached the castle by now.
Soon she finally gathered all the apples. "There, now I really gotta
be going, I'm sorry again.... So what's an eblan ninja doing here in
Baron anyway?"
"Hmph, what's a Damcyan with dragoon skills doing here?" Carasha
replied. "I'm just traveling, okay?"
"Okay, just asking." Chrissa quickly got away before Carasha could
say anything else to her. "Sheesh.. Talk about unpleasent..."

watched the man for a second before turning away.

"It is no matter," he said simply, "I will wait for
the instructor to awaken and I will speak with her
then."

Golbez turned and walked toward the manor entrance

Mana blinked very quickly. "She was, but she went ahead ..." Mana
bowed and left the roomm very quickly. She ran through the castle
and down to the outside. A sickening feeling was starting to
overcome her. "Chrissa!" she called as she made it
outside. "Chrissa!"

Garret blinked in surprise to Golbez's response. 'Wow he's calm.'
"Alright then, do as you wish. You're the boss. Um by the way, if I
was to sleep in like this when you wanted me, what would you have
done?" he asked with the suspicsion that Golbez would not let him
off easily.
