Golbez was lost in thought for most of the trip home. He'd stayed close
to
Rosa and more or less ignored everyone, except for a glance at Mana now
and
again.
She'd seen the figure, too. He knew she had. And he was going to talk
to her
about it.
When they returned to the castle, Golbez waited a moment to see where
Mana
would go. He ignored Ken's glaring and cast a Warp spell. Instantly, he
stood near Mana, for the moment unaware of Ryuu's or 'Cecil's' eyes
upon them.
"You saw him, didn't you?" Golbez asked softly, approaching Mana from
the
side. "My brother, except Cecil is dead." He sat down beside her and
attempted to lessen his looming presence and try to be comforting for
her. In
the darkness of night, that was easier said than done, since his very
being
seemed to have a preternatural aura of darkness about him. Lately, the
only
one he was able to comfort well was Rosa, because they had shared a
strong
bond in Cecil and his death had brought them closer together. But he
had a
certain...fondness for Mana.
"I cannot believe that was him," he said quietly.

Subject: [Dragoons' Dungeon] Re: Home sweet home....
Ryuu looked down at everyone from his view. "Well how interesting. I
wonder who that man is who looks like the Harvey brothers?" Ryuu's
hands were bandaged very carefully after the incident with
the 'soccer ball'. He had known what was going to happen but he knew
the others would be curious enough to touch it anyway even at the
risk of hurting themselves. He didn't want that. Ryuu did not like
the fact that Golbez didn't like him very much either. Had he been
drawing too much attention to himself? He didn't think it possible
because he hadn't done much besides lead the group into the
adventure and lead Rosa away from the main danger. Mana wanted Rosa
safe and Ryuu was more than happy to oblige.
He sighed and continued his observation of the man most people had
mistaken as Cecil. "He looks more like Golbez to me," he said to
himself. His mind then went back to the treasures they found and
what they were going to be used for. Ryuu shuddered. He really
didn't like the idea of so much old dark magic. It had finally come
to this...
He sighed again and thought about how to prepare for the Lantern
Festival which was coming soon. After all, the dead would like to
see the living world once in a while too...
Ken watched Golbez and Mana. He was irritated that Golbez had the
nerve to ignore him and that he was talking to Mana. The grip Ken
had on the stone ledge was enough to crack it into pieces and it
started to. He couldn't stand it! He felt so sick inside just
looking at the scene.
***
Mana wiped her eyes. She couldn't let Golbez see her like this! He
had enough to worry about - people trying to kill him, Rosa etc.
"H-hey Golbez," she tried to smile for him. "Yes, I saw him. For a
second I just thought...maybe my imagination maybe ....but..." she
was at a loss for words.
'It's not him,' she wanted to say so very badly to Golbez because...
"He felt more like you," she managed to say. "That and something
else. If I closed my eyes and went on instinct alone I would easily
have mistaken him for you."
She reached in her pocket and pulled out a piece of paper and handed
it to Golbez. "I'm resigning from my position. I am no longer fit
for duty."
'Cecil' had watched the whole scene and looked up feeling other
people were watching him. Ryuu smiled at him and waved. Taken aback
slightly he waved back not knowing what to do otherwise. He turned
his attention back to Mana and Golbez. Had she really said what he
thought she did? He wondered what Golbez would say to that. But then
if Golbez really knew the truth...how would he react to that?

"You were Tellah's apprentice?" Edward asked Incentus. He knew that
the man had looked somewhat familar, he must have seen him at Damcyan
while . He smiled and shook the man's hand. "It's good to meet
someone else who knew him. I'm afraid I didn't have as much a chance
to know him."
Chrissa smiled, but only for a moment. Mana's mood right now was
affecting her own, and she felt sorry for her friend. "I'm going to
find the others." she said, getting up.
"And I'm going to bed, I've been awake far too long." Eric said,
walking off in a different direction. Rosa didn't say anything, but
she was sitting and thinking something to herself, as if debating and
waiting for something.
---------------------
Chrissa was heading along one up the upper halls, when she sighted
Carasha, peeping through a doorway. Appearently the ninja hadn't
heard her yet, so Chrissa creeped up a little closer, crossing her
arms. "Funny, I thought you were heading to bed.."
Carasha glanced around, with the look of a surprised cat. "D--Don't
scare me like that."
"There must be something pretty interesting if I could sneak up on
an Eblan ninja." Chrissa raised an eyebrow, with a disciplinary look
written on her face.
Carasha immediately turned to a defensive mode. "Hey, I'm not doing
anything wrong, just watching out for trouble. If you got a problem
with that, tough." she huffed, turning on her heel and walking down
the hall at a fast pace.
Chrissa shook her head, then looked through the doorway herself to
see what she was looking at. She was somewhat surprised to see Ryuu
in there, away from the crowd. Even though she could only see his
back, it was odd for him to seem so... serious. "Hey, Ryuu!" she
smiled, coming in. "How are you doing? Sorry for not warning you
about the orb, it just didn't occur to me how dangerous it could be."
she said. The female captian then glanced out over the
courtyard. "What're you watching anyway?"

Subject: He's back....
"Shhh! Shhh!" Ryuu pulled Chrissa down closer to the ground. "You
don't want them to know you're here do you? Can't learn anything if
they know you're there," Ryuu said with a smile.
They slowly got up and Ryuu pointed down to where Golbez and Mana
were.
"Isn't that sweet? Looks like Golbez is trying to cheer her up. Who
would've thought he had it in him?" Ryuu snickered. He then pointed
to Ken. "And look at him who is watching the whole thing. The stone
ledge he is gripping is cracking under the pressure of his rage. It
makes you wonder as to why he is so angry doesn't it?" He then
pointed to the person standing not so far away from Mana and Golbez
who looked a lot like the Harvey brothers. "And look, there is a
stranger on the castle grounds. Don't you think he looks a lot like
Golbez?"
Ryuu had a serious look in his eyes as he watched everyone. "You
learn a lot more about people when they don't know you are
watching..." He then looked at Chrissa. "Mana resigned her position
as the Dragoon Captain. She says she is unfit for duty," Ryuu said
the last line using his fingers to imitate quotation marks. "If I
heard that, then Ken would've too. We both got good ears. Ken looks
like he is going to barge in on them. He has more than one reason to
and I understand completely." Ryuu looked really sad when he looked
at Ken. "But it's her life now. She has to decide what to do with
it," he said rather distantly. "And I think I know the result..."
For that night, Ryuu looked like a different man. He was nothing
like the normal, hyperactive singer that everyone so frequently saw.
His eyes looked thoughtful and his voice more serious. He faced
Chrissa one more time but this time he was back to his old
self. "Besides, isn't it fun playing spy games?"
***
'Cecil' looked away from Mana and Golbez just for a brief moment. He
didn't think that his appearance would cause that much of a
disturbance. He scoffed at himself. Didn't think were the key words.
He sighed and decided to quietly make his exit when he heard a
sinister chuckle.
"Well well, I guess the little girl finally realized she can't play
in a real fighter's game. Good choice," the voice finished with some
applause.
'Cecil's' hair stood on end. Mana quickly stood up.
"Kluya Harvey!"
The former paladin appeared before them, walking out of the shadows.
Ryuu grabbed Chrissa's hand and shook his head and held her in
place. Ken looked up and saw them and Ryuu gave Ken the same silent
message.
"I have to admit, your will to live despite all the tragedy you have
suffered amazes even me. You just want to rest now don't you my
dear? I can give you that. I can give you what you want so very
badly, just like I gave my son the power to kill his own brother!"
Kluya laughed.
Mana shook her head trying to get a sane thought in there. This
couldn't be the same man that she had heard about. Everytime she
thought about Kluya Harvey, she thought of a man giving children
candy not an insane man bent on murder and the elimination of his
own flesh and blood!
Kluya stopped laughing and sighed. "Too bad he didn't kill you in
the end," he said looking at Golbez.
Mana was trying to think of a plan to defend against the former
Paladin. She didn't have anymore white magic and she was frantically
searching her pockets for some paper to write spells on.
Ken looked conflicted. Ryuu saw this and quietly said, "Don't
interfere if you value their lives. It's all right, trust me..."
Mana felt a sinking feeling come over her. She had to help Golbez!
She looked down to realize she was sinking! She was being pulled
into the ground.
"Golbez!"
Golbez grabbed her hands with both of his but it wasn't enough as it
looked like he was going to be pulled in too. Soon only Mana's hands
could be seen above the ground.
Kluya laughed. "Don't bother with magic - it won't work. This girl
doesn't belong in this world anymore. Hades is only claiming what
rightfully belongs to him. I am going to give him another gift
tonight." He moved towards Golbez with a spell on his lips and
power coming from his hand. His fingers pointed towards Golbez in a
gun like fashion. "Good bye son," he said before releasing the power.
'Cecil' decided he couldn't be idle this time. He quickly unwrapped
the large sash he wore as a bandanna and used it to deflect the
power harmlessly away from Golbez.
"Hmm?" Kluya looked slightly annoyed. "Another one of my bloodline?"
he asked. 'Cecil' said nothing and began weaving the extremely long
sash into a shield crest.
Ken was just utterly suprised. 'How does he know that technique?'
Ryuu just smiled.
Kluya frowned. "I haven't seen that technique used in a long time.
Who taught you that?" 'Cecil' again said nothing.
Kluya suddenly noticed people were looking at him. "Hmph, I'll take
my leave for now." He did look like he had not expected 'Cecil' to
show up at all. He gave one final look at Golbez and Mana before
disappearing into the shadows.
'Cecil' destroyed the pattern and tied the cloth around his head
again like a bandanna. Ken looked at Ryuu who nodded before running
onto the scene.
"Mana!" Ken cried as he came running towards them as Golbez pulled
her up. Ken then caught his breath when he looked at 'Cecil'. He
shook off the shock and pulled the unconscious girl away from
Golbez. "Stay away from her! You're nothing but a magnet for
trouble!" he hissed as he held onto the girl
like she was going to disappear.
'Cecil' sighed and held his head. This was going to be a long night.

Golbez stood like a statue, impassively staring at the man he knew as
his father.
<i>I thought you were killed when I destroyed Zeromus
again<i> he
thought, <i>Why are you back again?</i>
KluYa lashed out then, but before Golbez had time to react, the man
who looked like Cecil deflected KluYa's spell. The sorcerer cocked a
curious eyebrow at the man and then turned to his father's fading form.
"Cecil didn't kill me before," he said, "because he was a better man
than either of us." Golbez's piercing stare penetrated the air
between himself and KluYa until the Lunarian disappeared entirely.
He ignored Ken and decided he'd talk to Mana later about her
resignation. For now, there were a few things he needed to discuss
and one of them was standing right next to him, holding a sash. The
sorcerer's looming figure turned toward 'Cecil.'
"I thank you for your aid," he said, "Will you come with me?"

Chrissa was going to protest, since she was uncomfortable spying on
her friend. Esspecially after getting on Carasha's case about
eavesdropping. But, she was worried about Mana still, so it couldn't
hurt, could it?
> "Isn't that sweet? Looks like Golbez is trying to cheer her up.

Chrissa chuckled as well, since that was a unique sight. Obviously
Golbez wasn't totally dark, like Edward had so told her. Course, with
what happened to the Damcyan King, it wouldn't be expected for him to
have a wonderful opinion of the sorceror anyway.

Chrissa sighed. "Golbez really gets to him, doesn't he?" she asked,
although not expecting an answer. It was understood how much pain
Golbez had brought to others in his terror reign, before his mind was
freed from Zeromus.

Chrissa gasped quickly, catching sight of 'Cecil'. So he had made it
out of the ruins afterall, and was now here. She realized quickly
that Ryuu didn't know about that man that had helped them out, so she
quickly cleared her throat. "Yeah, that stranger does look like
him..." the female captian replied.

"Seriously?!" she was quite surprised, but luckily kept herself
quiet. "But, Mana's been a great Dragoon, this has just got to be a
faze she's going through."

Chrissa listened silently as she kept her eyes on Ryuu. She wished
to ask more questions, but this mood that had came over the red-head
kept her quiet, and odd feeling settling upon her. He looked so
different, with the solemn expression that appeared in the moonlight.
There seemed to be so much more to him then the happy-go-lucky nature
that he showed publicly.
> He faced Chrissa one more time but this time he was back to his
old
> self. "Besides, isn't it fun playing spy games?"
Chrissa grinned, shaking her head. "Not much can get you down, can
it?"
Suddenly, another voice had come from below. Another man had
appeared, identified as 'Kluya'. Chrissa prepared to rush and help,
but Ryuu had held her back, shaking his head.
"But, they're in trouble, he's gonna kill them!" she tried to argue,
but he said that if they valued Mana's and Golbez's life, they
couldn't interfere, so she watch worriedly.
Good will would have it though, that 'Cecil' came in time to aid
Golbez and Mana. Kluya then disappeared, hopefully for a while.
Chrissa gave a sigh. "Man, I almost freaked out.." she said. Now
that the battle was over, she quickly leapt off the rampart she was
on, and landed near the others. "Mana, Mana, you alright?" the
Damcyan captain asked, to realize the dragoon was unconious. She
immediately started casting some white magic on her.
"Ken, don't be too harsh on Golbez." Carasha suddenly said, coming
out to the courtyard.
"Carasha, you were watching still?!" Chrissa exclaimed.
"Yeah, and don't give me any lectures, you did the same, didn't
you?" she huffed. "Anyway, I don't know much about this father-son
relationship, but I don't think that's why 'Kluya' is after Mana,
since this isn't the first attack."
"This isn't?" Chrissa tilted her head.
"The night before the festival, Kluya attacked her. Luckily, I was
there to keep him from doing any harm." the ninja informed. She
glanced over at the man whom had saved the two. "Glad to see you're
alive, Cecil. Or, is that your name?"
Chrissa nodded. "Right... Not that we aren't thankful for helping,
but something is wrong here. Kluya referred to you as 'Another of the
bloodline', as in someone other then Golbez or Cecil." she crossed
her arms. "So who are you?"

Subject: So what do you want to know.....?
Ken just kept glaring at Golbez. 'What nerve he has to ignore me!'
As Chrissa started to cast white magic on Mana, Ken pulled her away
as the smell of burning flesh started to fill the air. "Don't," he
said softly to Chrissa. "You'll kill her if you continue..."
Ryuu jumped off the rampant and floated down with an overly large
novelty umbrella. "Weee!!"
Ken gave Carasha a cautious glance. "If that was Kluya Harvey, why
did he leave so suddenly? Kluya Harvey had more power than this."
Ryuu walked closer to the group and waved again to 'Cecil'.
'Cecil' just smiled nervously and waved back again. He made sure his
bandanna was secure. He wondered what Golbez meant when he said that
Cecil was a better man than he. Hearing those words made him feel
sorry for Golbez and for a brief moment that expression appeared on
his face.
----Chrissa nodded. "Right... Not that we aaren't thankful for
helping, but something is wrong here. Kluya referred to you
as 'Another of the bloodline', as in someone other then Golbez or
Cecil." she crossed her arms. "So who are you?"----
Ryuu smiled. "Gee looks like Golbez has another brother! Isn't that
great Golbez?"
Ken used his free hand to slap Ryuu on the head from behind and
gave 'Cecil' a very careful look over. "That technique you used -
who did you learn it from? I only knew of four people who might have
the ability to perform that and it is a secret not so easily passed
on. Also that sash? where did you get it from?"
'Cecil' just looked at him but didn't say anything.
Ryuu smiled. "Another quiet one?""
"Do I really look that much like Cecil?" 'Cecil' asked finally
speaking.
Ryuu shook his head vigourously. "Nope, I think you look like Mr.
Gloomy over there," he said pointing to Golbez. Ken nodded in
agreement. "You are just lighter in colour that is all."
'Cecil' chuckled when he heard Ryuu's description of Golbez.
----"I thank you for your aid," Golbez saidd, "Will you come with
me?"----
'Cecil' looked a little apprehensive when Golbez asked that. He
thought about it for a moment. "Hmm," he shrugged casually. "Sure,
why not?"
"Wait," Ken said finally to 'Cecil'. "Be on your guard," he said
while pointing to Golbez. "He has another agenda here. You saved
Mana so I will trust you for now."
Ryuu pulled on Ken's sleeve. "Let's go, I think Golbez wants to talk
to that man alone." Ryuu turned his attention back to 'Cecil'. "Come
by for some snacks later okay?" he asked in a cheery manner. "I know
Mana would like it very much!"
"Err....right..." 'Cecil' just blinked quickly after that.
"Come on," Ryuu insisted as he grabbed Chrissa's and Carasha's
hands. "Let's go grab some munchies and talk until Mana wakes up!"
When the others left, 'Cecil' turned to face Golbez. "So you wished
to speak with me?"

Golbez waited until everyone was out of sight to speak again.
"Yes," he said, "I wish to speak with you, but not here. Follow me."
The sorcerer led 'Cecil' through the castle, into a tower, and finally
to a small briefing room. Only one door led into the room. A table
sat in the center of the room, with chairs positioned all around.
Golbez brought 'Cecil' inside and then closed the door. He cast a
quick spell and then turned to the other man.
"Nobody can enter or leave this room except us and nobody will be able
to hear us on the outside," he said, "Despite what Ken says, I have no
hidden agendas with you. I have only one agenda. I wish to ask a few
questions of you, the first one obviously being, 'Who are you?'"
Golbez paused but spoke up before 'Cecil' could answer. "This is what
I see so far," he said, "You have appeared mysteriously only recently.
You bear an uncanny resemblance to Cecil and myself. For a moment, I
had thought you were Cecil. You show ability to use a unique ability,
much like my brother and I were able to use -- he being the greatest
paladin and the only one able to wield the swords of light, myself
being the greatest Black Knight and Black Wizard, the only one able to
wield the most powerful of the darkswords."
The sorcerer paused once more and then looked 'Cecil' straight in the
eyes. "But the most striking observation is what my father -- if that
was truly he -- called you. Another of the bloodline. Are you my
brother, as well? A cousin or an uncle?"
"Who are you?"

'Cecil' carefully took in all the surroundings as he followed Golbez
into the briefing room.
'Great, it had to be an isolated room with no windows to jump out
from.' 'Cecil' thought with a grimace. But then again, it would look
highly suspicious if he ran away from Golbez now after agreeing in a
way to answer some of the questions the other man had.
He began to do some quick thinking and remained standing. Lying
wasn't hard for him although he didn't like it. His mission was more
important and there was no way he was going to tell more than he had
to. He had to know about these people first.
He looked directly back at the man in front of him. Golbez was as he
expected him and in a way he wasn't what he expected at all.
"I guess I should look a little like you, since as you have observed
from Kluya Harvey, I am of the same blood as you." 'Cecil' wished he
really knew how the dark sorceror's mind worked and what it was
exactly thinking right now.
"Yes, that was Kluya Harvey - more exactly what is left of him. All
I know is that I have the same blood as you. I don't know if I am
your brother, half brother or what not."
That was a lie.
"You and Cecil are opposites of the same whole. Consider me then the
neutral. I can wield all known magic in this world as well as use
most combat techniques although I am more ...proficient in dark
magic and it takes me an insanely long time to cast white magic
compared to say Rosa for example so I don't really bother with it. I
prefer the techniques I know over magic anyway. I have been
intensely trained by specialists in their field. I assume though
that when you ask who I am, you want my name. Fair enough."
He bowed down very politely but his eyes never left contact with
Golbez's.
"My name is Amasa. I am a person who wants to find out the truth. I
have been watching you for a while now. I only appeared recently
because it was to my benefit to do so. "
He paused for a second. "You said you had no agenda with me but that
you did have an agenda. May I as politely ask what your agenda is
then before I answer anymore of your questions? I want to make sure
our goals will not conflict in the future."

"Oh, I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to hurt her!" Chrissa quickly said
to Ken, very freaked out about her magic doing that to the dragoon.
She couldn't understand why it was affecting her this way. But before
more could be done, Ryuu started dragging her and Carasha with them
to get some food.
Chrissa tried to relax herself, since everything was fine
now. "Yeah, maybe we should wake up Eric too, he'd want to join in
for any snack."
"That'll be pretty hard." Carasha started.
"Why's that?" Chrissa asked.
"Because.." the ninja continued. "He's not here anymore. I saw him
leaving earlier, after you were telling me to get away from the door."
"But where would he be going?" the captain shook her head. "It
doesn't make sense.."
"I heard him tell a soldier he was just going to the village to
visit something in the morning, then said he would return after
that." Carasha finished. "Then the whole Kluya thing started, I
couldn't miss that."
"I see..." Chrissa sighed.

Amasa. The name meant nothing to Golbez. If he'd heard it before, he
didn't
remember. The sorcerer sat in thought until Amasa asked his question.
There
was something slightly off about Amasa's story, too. Golbez couldn't
quite
put his finger down on anything in particular but he had a feeling that
Amasa
was hiding something from him.
"My agenda," the sorcerer's deep voice rumbled, "was, until recently, to
ensure the safety of Rosa and the future of Baron. I still hold to that
in
the name of my deceased brother. Now, my agenda includes something
similar to
yours. I want the truth."
He paused, eyed Amasa for a moment, and then spoke again. "There is a
lot
here in Baron that is not what it seems. There are few officials and
soldiers
here who respect me for any reason other than fear of me and fear of my
power.
I know full well that many would see me dead if they had the chance.
"But beyond knowing who I can trust, I want to know who is trying to
tear this
country apart. There are people here who are trying to destroy all that
Cecil
and Rosa worked for and I will not allow that."
"That is my agenda," he said.
He turned fully to Amasa. "What is the truth that you seek?"

Ken sighed as he held Mana's hand while kneeling beside her bed.
"What are you hiding from us? Why is Kluya Harvey after you? What
are you planning?" the man was really worried.
***
Ryuu tip toed with Carasha and Chrissa while sneaking into the
kitchen for food. "Hee hee..."
Ryuu pouted that Eric wouldn't join in on the fun but decided to
leave snacks in the knight's room later for his return. "Look at all
these one hundred percent deliciously sinful foods to eat!" the
singer commented as he opened the fridges and cupboards. "You
knights don't get to eat the good stuff, how boring!"
There was some clattering noise and Ryuu bumped into someone.
"Hey watch it!" a familiar voice hissed.
"Heey!" Ryuu rubbed his head. "Who...Garret?!"
Garret looked at the red head and it was clear with all the frosting
around his mouth he had been there pigging out for a while.
"What are you doing here?" asked Garret a little shocked at seeing
others at this time.
"That's what I want to ask you. What would Mana say if she saw you
eating like this? You're going to be one fat dragoon!"
"Shaddup! Golbez has been so intense with the knight practice and
training program...if I don't eat like this I'll be skinner than a
twig!"
"Whatever, hey help us sneak some snacks out of here and into Mana's
room."
Garret raised an eyebrow. "Why? What's going on?" He looked up and
saw Chrissa and Carasha. "Hey Chrissa!" he smiled. He frowned at
Carasha. He shared Kain's opinion on Eblan ninjas. He didn't like
them one bit. It didn't help that Morryigan had almost killed him
almost a year ago.
Ryuu felt he was going to get into trouble. "Um...come on, let's
just sneak some food to Mana's room. You'll earn some points with
her that way."
"Hmm...oh all right..."
****
"I'm so sorry....I'm so sorry..." Mana muttered in her sleep.
Ken's grip on her hand became tighter.
"Please don't hate me...."
Ken began to cry silently. "I could never hate you," he said as if
reliving a painful memory and not existing in reality. "I'll never
hate you no matter what you do..."
"Oh that's good," said Ryuu as everyone entered the room. "Remember
when your favourite underwear went missing in the wash? The one with
mini dark knight print all over it? Well I sorta ruined it beyond
repair."
Ken let go of Mana's hand and quickly walked over to where Ryuu was,
grabbed him by the collar and lifted him off his feet.
"You are going to buy me new underwear aren't you? The best silk I
would imagine, correct?" he shook Ryuu vigourously to empasize his
point.
"Y-yes..."
Mana woke up to see a strange sight indeed.
****
Amasa knew Golbez wasn't a man so easily fooled but of course he
didn't know everything yet and that was good...for now.
"A very noble thing you have done these past few months Mr. Golbez
Harvey." There was no sarcasm in his voice but slight
admiration. "But you are correct that someone wants to destroy
Baron. That is actually the status quo, after all, it has been
centuries and nothing has changed. People have not changed. You
think you know who you can trust? You might want to rethink that."
Amasa pulled a piece of paper from his pocket. "Before King Edward
of Damcyan came to visit Baron, there was an assasination attempt
against your life - correct?" He handed the piece of paper to
Golbez. The words "Black Knight" were written on them. "That knight
that was following you was not real. It didn't matter if you killed
him or not. His body would've eventually turned back into this
paper. Know anyone who uses this kind of magic technique?"
Amasa tried to study Golbez's expression. There was only one person
who used that technique that Golbez would know - and that was Mana.
"Anyway, you want to protect Baron and find out why someone wants to
destroy it. I want to find out why my family was murdered. When I
was fourteen, I returned home to find everyone I had ever known dead
in a mass murder. I thought if I came here I would find out the
reason because the strongest in the world live here or visit here
frequently. I had lived in peace until that incident with my
family. I want to find out why someone would want to kill them and
who would want to." Amasa's eyes became dull for a second when he
thought about that incident. His hands closed into tight fists
shaking slightly. He shook his head slightly and regained eye
contact with the dark sorceror. "Our agendas will not conflict which
is good. We wouldn't want to be each other's enemy..." He knew
fully that Golbez feared no man and Amasa was dying to give him a
reason to fear him but decided against it for now. "Anyways, I want
to see that girl who you were speaking with before you were
disturbed if you don't mind. I will answer any other questions you
have maybe at a later date when I have more information." Amasa
walked to the door and opened it very quickly.
WHAM!
"Wham?" Amasa said softly. He looked behind the door and there was
Ryuu on the ground rubbing his nose.
"Owie! My nose, my nose!"
"Oh sorry!" said Amasa. "Didn't know you were there."
****
Ryuu had left Mana's room and sighed. Now Ken was mad at him for
ruining his favourite underwear. He let out a huge sigh. He felt
strange magic coming from a room and decided to check it out. The
door wouldn't open. "Golbez's doing looks like," Ryuu said to
himself while frowning. He was going to try to dispel the
magic when the door opened suddenly and slammed into his face. He
rubbed his injured nose and looked up to see two men. One was
obviously Golbez with his lack of fashion sense and the other who
looked like Golbez but had better tastes in clothes. The fashionable
Golbez appologized while the other one did not look too pleased at
seeing Ryuu.

Chrissa couldn't help but chuckle at Ken's conflict with Ryuu over
the ruined underwear. "Oh, poor Ken." she shook her head at the
amusement. She glanced around, noticing that Ryuu had slipped
out. "Hmm... He probably went to pilfer some more snacks." she said.
The captain wondered if they really should be getting into the
kitchens, but decided that the cooks really wouldn't mind.
Carasha picked up a snack. "Well, I'm heading off to bed then." she
said, taking it with her as she exited from the room. Chrissa decided
the ninja left just so she wouldn't have to take off her mask in
public. Ninjas were sometimes sensitive about those things.
----------------------
"Edward?" Rosa suddenly asked. "May I speak with you?"
Edward froze slightly, since Rosa's tone indictated there was
something wrong, so he nodded. "Of course."
They then made for a private study. Edward wondered what she could
want that they couldn't mention infront of anyone else. "Edward..."
Rosa started, sitting down. ".. Why is everyone keeping information
from me?"
Edward's back tensed up. Did she know? "Erm... What do you mean?"
"Edward, I know about the attack a couple days ago. But why hasn't
anyone been telling me about this? Is this not my kingdom to
protect?" she asked. "And now there's the business of this
untouchable orb..."
"... Garret thought it best not to tell you about the attack. And we
went along with it. But it was for your own good, Rosa. You were very
weak and depressed from Cecil's loss. We couldn't bear to give you
the news about the attack." the Damcyan king replied.
"... Edward, I know you're just watching out for me, that's why
you're my friend. But..." Rosa's soft voice started getting
stronger. "You can't let my welfare of mind keep me from defending
Baron. These people are part of my kingdom, which is one of the few
things I have left from Cecil. Do you understand?"
"Yes, of course." Edward nodded. "I'll try not to keep anything else
from you."
"Thank you." Rosa smiled, glad to resolve that situation.
"And, I know nothing about the orb." he added.
"I understand."

Subject: Ken's plan...
After Ryuu left, Ken sat down on a chair with his fingers rapping
against each other. He was angry he wasn't the one to save Mana. He
was furious at the fact that Golbez was so 'friendly' with her.
Something had to be done...
A rare smile crept on Ken's face as he stood up suddenly.
"Are you all right Mana?" he asked.
She nodded and he quickly left her room.
Mana sighed. Garret and Chrissa were looking at her in concern. She
knew why. Her fists gripped her blanket very tightly. This was the
third time she needed saving in the recent weeks. First Carasha
saved her from Kluya's first attack. Second Golbez saved her from
the ruin guardian and he saved her again somehow from Kluya.
Was she really that weak? Did she really have to rely on others just
to live? How could she let herself become so weak? Mana was so
frustrated it hurt her head.
Garret didn't know what to say so he just handed Mana some cookies
and milk. Suddenly her door opened again and Amasa walked in.
"Hey may I come in ...?"
Mana's eyes were wide. She quickly got out of her bed and ran to him.
"You're alive! You're alive!" she cried. "Oh I thought you died when
the tunnel collapsed!" she held on to him so tightly.
Amasa scratched the back of his head and let out a slight
chuckle. "Takes more than that to take me out."
Garret's eyes were wide as well. 'He looks just like Golbez! But
there is something else...he has a wind demon familiar with him...I
can feel it...'
Amasa just smiled while looking down at the sobbing girl. "Hey, come
on now. You shouldn't be crying. I am okay as you can see. I just
wanted to see if you were okay..."
Ryuu walked in still rubbing his nose. "Yeah, this guy saved you and
Golbez from Kluya just now..."
"Really?" Mana looked up at him in surprise. 'This is the second
time he has helped me...' "Thank you."
Amasa just smiled and took a step back from her and headed towards
the window. "Well, I'm glad to see you are all right. I'll be seeing
you later maybe..." he said before falling out the window.
Everyone ran to where he fell out. There was no sign of him at all.
"Interesting style he's got..." commented Ryuu. "Reminds me of you
Garret."
"Ha!"
"He left without telling us his name..."
***
Ken headed towards Incentus's room and found the little black mage
wandering around his room at the castle. He entered and closed the
door behind him.
"I wish to speak with you about something. I think you'll find my
proposition quite interesting. I hear you were a student of the
great Sage Tellah. Tellah was the only one known to have seriously
harmed Golbez but because of his age, it cost him his life. If you
really were his student, I am sure you acquired great knowledge and
power from him. You are not from this country and I have no worries
that you have such a foolish idea as loyalty to a dead country such
as this. If you agree, I have need of your power and I will need it
soon. But the condition is you must not be afriad to go against
Golbez. I wish to cause Golbez great harm at any cost. What say you
to this? Will you help me?"

Mana spent most of the next day in the Great Hall making notes about
something. Garret was playing with the orb, spinning it on his
fingers, rolling it down his arms and other strange tricks.
"So people with connections to White magic can't touch it? Creepy!"
he said.
Ken was sitting in a large chair watching everyone, especially
Mana. "But that fact hasn't detered you from playing with the orb
like it was a common plaything," he commented without looking at
Garret.
Garret stuck out his tongue and continued to play with it.
Mana stopped writing for moment. "Wait, Ryuu touched it and it sent
him flying into the mountain," Mana winced at the memory. "But he
doesn't have any white magic does he?"
Ken looked very uncomfortable. "Well he learned Heal and Cure 1
after a concert incident a while back."
Mana's eyes were wide. "You mean that low level magic was enough for
the orb to...damn! It's a good thing that man who looks like Cecil
and Golbez told us about the curse. Imagine what would happen if
Rosa or Chrissa touched it!"
"Oops!" Garret fumbled with the orb.
"Garret!"
Ken got up and caught it like it was nothing. He gave Garret a
narrow glance. "Do not play with it anymore!"
Garret sulked where he was standing. "So is it true you resigned?"
he said after a while.
"Yes."
"Are you nuts! You're giving Golbez more power! I don't have enough
rank to replace you, you know!"
"I trust Golbez," Mana said simply. "Besides after recent events, I
am more a burden than anything else. It would be for this country's
best interest if I leave."
"Does this have to do with Kluya Harvey's interest in you?" Ken
asked quietly. "Are you leaving because you think it would draw his
attention?"
Mana looked up at Ken. For a musician he seemed to know what was
going on...too much in fact...
"I want to protect this place and the people that Kain loved. It
shouldn't be the other way around. It's a matter of honour and
pride!"
Ken just shrugged. "You are so much like him..." he muttered.
***
Ryuu was with some soldiers helping them put up the lanterns. He
spent most of the day skipping and singing to himself in the
town. "This is going to be so much fun! Of course in more ways then
one..." Ryuu looked up at the sky. "I wonder who is going to come to
the party...?"

That morning.....
"Mana did what?!" Rosa exclaimed. She was sitting on her throne,
quite surprised by this news.
"She resigned. Quit. Said 'sayonara'" Carasha answered, crossing her
arms and leaning against a wall.
Rosa shook her head in disbelief. "But... why? Why would she leave?"
"She mentioned something about being unable to do her duties. She
seems to be bringing more danger then she is preventing." the ninja
said.
"What does she mean? Is this about the attack on the castle?" Rosa
asked.
Carasha was silent for a moment. "I don't think thats what she
meant, but now that you've mentioned it..." she seemed to ponder
outloud. "Anyway, its more about the attacks focused on her
personally."
"By whom?!" Rosa tensed up. Who would be attacking Mana?
"Some psycho named Kluya." Carasha replied.
".. Kluya.... I thought he..." she trailed off, focusing on the
ground. After a few moments lost in her thoughts, she looked back up
at Carasha. "I see... Carasha, I'm curious to know why you're the one
delivering me this message."
"The Damcyan Captain would have, except she went out to the town, so
she asked me to. Just let her know not to expect too many more
requests." she said, leaving the room.
----------------
Chrissa smiled as she watched Ryuu leading the soldiers around to
set up the lanterns. He seemed like such a blissful man, yet last
night showed he wasn't all that ignorant.
She shook her head, remembering she didn't come out here for that
reason. Chrissa just wanted to know where her brother took off to, so
the captain started questioning the different people in town. After
following pointed fingers and odd directions, she found herself
infront of the catheral, which still showed damage from the attack on
Baron and robbed it of so many lives.
Chrissa walked in slowly, looking about all the grayness, for the
beautiful stained windows had been broken in.
There she caught sight of Eric, kneeling infront of a cross with his
sword lifted to his forehead, and speaking too silently to hear.
Chrissa kept herself a few yards away, so as not to disturb her
brother.
Soon he finished, sheathing his sword, and turned around as he
stood. The sudden sight of his sister surprised him. "Chrissa!
What're you doing here?"
"Oh, I was looking for you." she said, glancing up at the cross. "I
didn't know where you ran off to."
Eric was silent a moment, then nodded, looking up at it too. "A
paladin is a warrior of the light. If I am to be one, I must be
morally and spiritually strong as well as physically."
".. You really are striving for it, aren't you?" Chrissa asked.
"When you mentioned it, I thought it was just a dream of yours."
"It is, Chrissa, the only difference is I'm pursuing it." he smiled.
"So, I guess we're going back to the castle?"
"Actually, why don't you help Ryuu with the festivities? I'm sure
he'll appreciate the help. I thinking of helping too, but I want to
go talk to Mana first. I'm a little worried, since..." she started,
but decided not to go into detail with Eric. She didn't need to be
announcing her friend's problems to everyone.
"Since what?"
".. Since we don't get to girl-talk as much." she just grinned.
"Funny, I thought that's all you do." Eric laughed. "Anyway, see ya
then." he said, going off.
Chrissa sighed, then made her way back to the castle.
---------------------
Edward looked out his window over the kingdom of Baron. He had just
come to reconnect communication with Baron, and to let Chrissa pay
her respects to her departed parents. But this new string of events
has occured, and he wondered whether it would be best to stay or to
return to Damcyan to watch over that kingdom. So far the Chancsallar
(sp?) was in control while Edward was away. "But can I really leave?
Baron is in danger now... It would be wrong for me to turn away. I
couldn't do that to Rosa, or Cecil." he shook his head.

Garret, being angry he couldn't take his mind off by playing with
the orb decided to confront Mana.
"Do you realize you might be playing into Golbez's hands by doing
so?"
"Why are you so paranoid? I have more reason than you to worry about
that idea. But as I said before I trust Golbez. He as protected Rosa
well as well as what is left of this country so I trust him."
"Do you trust him more than me?" asked Garret.
"What..?" Mana stopped writing her letter.
"Well, do you?"
"What's your problem? Do you got the male version of PMS or
something right now?"
"My problem is that you trust him more than me. You *like* him more
than you *like* me!" yelled Garret before he stormed out of the room
and slamming the door behind him.
Mana sighed. "Gods, I don't need this now..."
Ken stood up and gave Mana a strange look. "Is it true?"
"What is?"
"Do you...trust Golbez more then Garret? That you like..." Ken
couldn't say the rest of his sentance. It looked like it would kill
him if he finished it.
Mana looked at him in curiousity. "And what if I did? What if I did
like Golbez more?"
Ken's fists clenched and unclenched. "It's...your life..." he said
finally and carefully before leaving the room as well.
Ken wandered the castle until he found the Dark Sorceror. He wasn't
going to warp away this time - not before Ken had a word.
"You...must be so happy now...Mana stepped aside and you have total
control over the military. I bet you were just waiting for this. If
I even have the slightest bit of evidence you have been playing
around with her mind like what you did to Kain, I'll kill you. I
don't care if you think you are stronger...I'll find a way to kill
you
Golbez Harvey," Ken said the name in disgust.
***
Mana went to find Rosa and hand her a copy of her resignation.
"I am sorry, I know this is sudden but please accept it. Golbez now
has full control now over the military and I am sure he can do a
better job. I will leave Baron after the Lantern Festival."

Golbez stared down his nose at Ken. He felt a mild urge to backhand Ken
with
a gauntleted fist, but he suppressed it easily. After a long moment of
giving
the other man a direct, bone-chilling stare, he spoke.
"I suggest," he said coldly, "that before you make accusations, you make
certain you know of all the facts. Baseless attacks cannot succeed."
The dark sorcerer's eyes bored into Ken's.
Meanwhile...
A townsman sighted an airship moving rapidly toward Baron City. He
began to
cry alarm when he caught sight of the colors portrayed on the ship's
hull.
"Eblan!" he called jubilantly to his fellow townsmen, "Eblan has
arrived!"
Indeed, Eblan had arrived with its royal airship, the Falcon. The ship
landed
outside of the city and a small contingent of guards descended from the
ramp.
Soon, a herald announced their arrival.
"King Edge of Eblan and his wife, Queen Rydia!"
In a puff of smoke, Edge appeared at the top of the ramp, dressed in a
sleek
black outfit. Even with the lower half of his face masked, one could be
certain he was grinning ear-to-ear. Rydia hurried up beside him,
dressed in
green, as per usual.
"Must you always be so flashy and cocky?" she admonished her husband.
"Come on, it's just for fun," Edge replied cockily, descending the ramp
with
Rydia on his arm.
The caller girl rolled her eyes and brushed a few stray strands of
emerald
hair out of her face. Baron had changed so little since she left it and
at
the same time it was so different. Now, the town was decorated in
lanterns
for the festival she and Edge had come to attend. At night, it would be
absolutely beautiful, with tons of lanterns flickering in the darkness.
She
smiled as she remembered the thought.
"Let's walk through the town a bit before we go to the castle," Rydia
said
brightly, "I want to reminisce some."
Edge nodded his agreement and the two walked into Baron Town,
arm-in-arm.

Ryuu noticed the airship approach the town. He ran to the scene just
in time to see Edge's flashy show.
"Wowie! that was so cool! Can you do that again? That would be
awesome for the start of my concert! Can you show me how to do
that?" Ryuu grabbed Edge's hands and shook them with much
energy. "King Edge of Eblan! I heard so much about you! It's a great
honour indeed to see you at last!" Ryuu then turned his attention to
Rydia. "Wow, a summoner! Queen Rydia right? So you and Edge finally
got married eh? Wait until I tell him. He won't believe it. You're
very beautiful. So how's the married life? Thanks for coming! I'll
make sure you'll enjoy your stay here!"
***
Amasa was quietly walking around the castle and happen to overhear
Ken's and Golbez's 'conversation'. He sighed. There really was too
much tension in the castle. He could understand why Mana wanted to
leave. Amasa quickly headed towards the town but kept his face
hidden under an overly large hat. He spotted King Edge and Queen
Rydia and smiled. 'Just like mom said...'
***
Ken frowned. "I know all I need to know. I'll be watching you very
carefully," he said before storming off.
Garret caught a sight of Golbez and thought he was going to be sick.
He leaned against the nearest wall and tried no to think about
it. "Why?" he said bitterly to himself. "Everything was fine until
Golbez showed up in Baron..."
But somewhere deep inside he knew that was a lie.

Golbez's gaze softened when Ken's back was turned. He wondered if some
of the
old Golbez would be needed before this entire mess was finished. The
sorcerer
gently rubbed an amulet around his neck. He'd used this once
before...years
ago. Hopefully, it wouldn't become necessary again.

Edge's grin threatened to split his face in two as Ryuu greeted himself
and
his queen.
"That's nothing!" the ninja king boasted proudly, "I can do lots more
than
that! Wanna--" His crooning was abruptly cut short by Rydia's elbow
strategically finding its way to his ribs. The green-haired woman smiled
warmly at Ryuu.
"Thank you for the welcome," she said, "Who is this 'him' that you
wanted to

Mana quickly left Rosa after handing in her resignation. She didn't
want to deal with protests over her decision. Mana was more worried
about Garret's reaction when he found out. What would the others
think? She held her head as she walked back into her room. There was
a package on her bed she had forgotten about. She quickly got
dressed in her best yukata, grabbed the package and headed out.
***
"You can show me later," whispered Ryuu to Edge.
Rydia had caught onto his slip of words.
Ryuu's eyes narrowed for a second then he went back to his cheery
self. "Oh pay me no mind. I just babble a lot." Ryuu then pulled out
some frozen yogurt popsicles shaped like ghosts with candy noses and
handed them to the royal couple. "Please enjoy your time here! If
you have any concerns for this festival, please feel free to contact
me!" he said before skipping off into the crowds.
'Damn that was close," he thought. ' I should pay more attention to
what I say...'
***
Mana found Golbez where Ken had left him. Fortunately she didn't see
their arguement but Golbez did look lost in thought.
"Hey Golbez!" she said rather loudly and as cheerfully as she could.
She hoped that she could shock him back to the real world.
"Hey, what's up? You looked like you were thinking about something
important. But knowing you, you only do think of important things.
Hopefully tonight you can relax a bit." Mana lifted up the package
and opened it. "Um...I got it for you at the Dragon Festival. I
kinda forgot to give it to you right after I came back because of
all the insanity lately. I hope you like it."
It was a black silk robe embroidered with silver dragons.
"Eh heh heh, it would be highly suspicious if you wore armour at a
festival like this and..."
Mana blushed furiously. 'What if he doesn't like it?' she thought.
"Um...I am going into town...see you later okay?" she said as she
began to walk away.
***
Garret looked up at where Golbez was and saw another sight that made
him sick. 'Mana and Golbez?' Garret had barely managed to crawl to
the washroom to puke what ever he had ate that day.
"I'll get him....I'll get them both..." he said with bitterness.

Chrissa entered the great hall of the castle, glancing around to
see if she could find Mana. After a bit of searching, she noticed
the dragoon off in another hall, talking with Golbez. The captain
decided not to interuppt, so she stayed off to the side.
"Hey." a voice came from behind her. "You know what the big deal is
with the airship that flew in?"
Chrissa looked over her shoulder at Carasha, then back on Golbez
and Mana. "It's the Falcon." she said simply. This quickly caught
the ninja's attention. "King Edge and Queen Rydia flew in, probably
for the lantern--" as the captian turned to Carasha again, she found
the girl had disappeared. "... Festival.."
Carasha took to the town as quick as her legs would take her. It
was King Edge, the royalty of her country. She had to---.
She then slowed down to a stop. What would she do? It wasn't like
she actually knew the king. But then again, that was something to
do, wasn't it? And she, a ninja of Eblan, could escourt them to the
castle, other then some Baron strangers.
Eric was having a bit of trouble finding Ryuu. He had gone over to
where the some of the soldiers were setting up the lanterns, but
Ryuu didn't seem to be there. "Are these all the soldiers working on
this?" he asked.
"No, Sir Ryuu and several others went to see King Edge's entrance."
one of the knights replied.
"Oh.." Eric glanced in that direction. ".. Well, it looks like he's
coming back, so I'll just be helping out here."

Incentus peered over at Ken. He stopped his pacing around the room and
asked him "I will do this on one condition" He paused silently for a
moment and then began talking again. "I work alone" The tone he put on
the last word echoing about the room. "I have no intention to work
with the likes of you, or any of the inhabitants of this castle. My
reasons for being here are my own"
Incentus eyed him intently again.
"I am well aware my Master harmed Golbez greatly, i don't need
reminding"
He stopped for a breath and his posture indicated he was drawing this
talk to a close.
"Now, i must be off. I have things of my own to do"
With that said, Incentus slowly dawdled out of the room and down the
corridor.
*************
His pitter patter feet could be heard all the way from his room as we
walked outside to a balcony over looking the castle.
The day had taken alot out of him, save for the demand by Ken to
involve him even more. He stared up at the stars, an unnatural
relaxation taking over his body. *they always do that for me it seems*
he thought to himself
He gazed off in the distance and saw Mana talking to a mysterious
individual. Their eyes met for a moment and quickly Incentus looked
the other way so as not to arouse too much suspicion.
*There's something about that girl* noted Incentus, an unnerving
seriousness upon his face. He had finished his reminiscing for the
night and slowly dawdled back to his room. A welcomed look entered his
face as he entered his nicely furnished room, relaxed knowing he could
have a nice night's sleep

Golbez looked bewilderedly at the gift in his hands. Odd that someone
would
give him any sort of gift. A slight almost-smile crept onto his face

started to walk away.
"Mana, wait," he called, hurrying to catch up to her.
"I want to speak with you for a moment." His face turned stern, but

so, almost a concerned expression.
"Why did you resign?" he asked.

Subject: Start the event with a crash...
Ryuu skipped along back to where some soldiers were laying the
finishing touches to the decorations for the festival and found Eric.
"ERIC!!!" Ryuu hopped onto the other boy's back and handed him a
ghost shapped popsicle. "Where have you been hiding yourself? What
do you think of all the decorations? Look at all the games waiting
to be played!" Ryuu grabbed Eric's hand and showed him where the
stage was for the concert and where the lighted boats were going to
set sail. After giving the other knight a grand tour he handed
people they passed by ghost shapped popsicles while answering any
questions Eric might have...
****
Ken was taking a nice long ice cold shower. He combed his wet hair
back and leaned forward a bit and sighed. Incentus was pretty much
to the point about working alone. Ken knew Golbez was strong and
alone, anyone would die against him. But at least Incentus would not
side with Golbez, Ken was sure about that. That was good in his
books. He got out, dried up and got changed into the costume that
Ryuu inisisted he wear.
'It's to highlight your bad boy good looks!' Ken remembered Ryuu
chirping happily.
Ken shook his head and smiled. The things he did for that crazy red
head...
****
Amasa found a nice spot under a tree to take a nap and get a good
view of the city. He had missed this kind of scene. But even so, in
this bright summer afternoon, it was strangely cold...it was like
something dark was going to happen and happen soon...
****
---"Mana, wait," Golbez called, hurrying too catch up to her. ---
Mana stopped in her tracks and turned around. "Yes? Is there
something wrong Golbez?"
---"I want to speak with you for a moment. Why did you resign?" he
asked.---
Mana looked at Golbez. 'Don't look at me with that look! Save it for
Rosa,' her mind thought.
"I am no longer fight for duty," she said simply. "You've witnessed
and heard about it. I couldn't even defend myself or protect you
from Kluya Harvey and you had to save me from the ruin guardian."
She clenched her fists and looked away. "I am a disgrace to the
dragoons! I should not be a dragoon anymore let alone command them!
And....and...I...have...been..." she looked at him again with torn
eyes. "I...have..."
'I want to tell him so badly! He has a right to know...'
'Don't...don't cave into him. If Rosa doesn't know then why should
he?'
Mana could hear the conversation she had with Garret long ago in her
mind so clearly...
"Golbez...I..." She began again but never got to finish.
Golbez suddenly grabbed the distracted former dragoon and quickly
moved to the side. A giant potted plant fell down from the floor
above just a second later where they were standing.
CRASH!
Mana was shaking violently as Golbez held her. She was too scared to
look up. Too scared to see if and who might have pushed the plant
off from where it was. Too shocked to wonder who the target was, her
or Golbez...

<I must have picked up some bad habits from Ryuu.> Chrissa said,
trying to control the urge to listen into Golbez's and Mana's
conversation.
Suddenly, Golbez had grabbed Mana and stepped out of the way before
a large potted plant crashed down right where they had been
standing. "MANA!" Chrissa rushed over to her friend, whom was
shaking. "Mana, are you alright?!" the captain asked hastily. She
suddenly glared up at the floor above them. "Whoever's there better
show themselves!!!" Chrissa took a step back, then used a dragoon
jump to reach the other floor.
-------------
"Oh, I was just in another part of town.." Eric answered, then
grinned. "I think the decorations look great!!" He continued, trying
to have some of his popsicle while Ryuu yanked him around. "So is
there anything else we need to get done? Oh man, I'm going to need
to go get a robe, aren't I?" he remembered. "Hey, isn't that
Carasha?"
Carasha was still nearby in the crowd that was trying to get a
glimpse of the Eblan Royalty. She hadn't decided whether to make an
introduction yet. Her thoughts were arguing inside her head.
<Go up and introduce yourself!>
<But what if he thinks I'm just a nobody?>
<You're not a nobody! You were asked to join the royal ninjas of
Eblan!>
<And I turned it down, that might have been a sign of disloyalty.>
<Then don't you need to make up for it?>
Carasha took a deep breath. She was going to go up to the king! She
pushed her way through the crowd. "Excuse me!" she called, finally
getting through and coming up to Edge. "I'm Carasha Yaji, a former
ninja of Eblan, and I am honored to finally meet you!" she said
quickly.

Edward was in his chambers, writing a letter.
To the Chansallor of Damcyan,
My trip to Baron will be extended for an unestimated amount of
time, due to troubles arising in the kingdom. I feel responsible to

The king stopped writing as soon as he heard a crash outside, that
sounded like the breaking of pottery. Curious, Edward got up and
went to the door, wondering what was going on.

Golbez watched suspiciously at the window for a moment after Chrissa
leapt
up.
He comfortingly held Mana a moment longer, silently waiting as the
woman's
sobs died down. After she seemed calmer, Golbez gently grabbed her by
the
shoulders and stood back, taking stock of her with a gentle expression

"Do you want to talk elsewhere?" he asked quietly.

Rydia and Edge were left looking bemusedly at the weird popsicles.
Before
they had a chance to bite into one, they were interrupted by someone
approaching them and calling out to them.
"I'm Carasha Yaji," the voice called. A woman in ninja garb approached
the
royal couple, "I'm honored to finally meet you."
Rydia raised her eyebrows. Something about that name was annoyingly
familiar.
She couldn't place where she'd heard it before, though. Shrugging the
feeling off for the moment, she smiled brightly. "And it is a pleasure
to
meet you as well, Carasha."
Edge was elated. "Wow, cool!" he grinned, "Didn't expect there to be a
ninja
here in Baron! Were you one of the ones assigned to Baron?"

But Chrissa would not find anything because the one responsible was
already long gone with a satisfied smile on their face.
Once Mana recovered from the intial shock she replied to Chrissa.
"Yeah, I'm all right...Golbez saved me," she said in a forced calm
voice. "....again..." she muttered to herself with bitterness
quietly.
More then ever, Mana wished that Kain was back. Being held by Golbez
reminded her how Kain used to protect her no matter what.
'Oh what I would do for this safe feeling again...' Mana thought.
But Golbez couldn't protect her no matter what. Their mission was to
make sure Rosa was safe and Baron rebuilt.
---"Do you want to talk elsewhere?" Golbez asked quietly.---
Mana shook her head. It was a strange coincidence that that giant
potted plant had to fall when she was about to talk to Golbez.
Someone strong had to have pushed it from the floor above...
"It's nothing Golbez," she said with a small smile. "It's really
nothing important."
She took a quick step away from him and went to examine the
shattered pot and poor plant.
"Chrissa! It's all right. I am sure that it just fell down," Mana
yelled towards the floor above. She picked up what could be salvaged
of the plant and planted it in another pot nearby. "You should hurry
and get changed," Mana's voice regained some of its cheer. "There's
a good food stand we have to check out before everyone else does!"
She turned to face Golbez again. "I hope you come to the festival
too. Even you need a break from work!"
****
Ryuu shook his head while munching on a ghost popsicle. "Nope
everything is practically done. Look there is Ken getting ready with
the band for the concert tonight. What do you think of his costume?
I picked it out myself for him. For some reason Ken does not like my
tastes..." Ryuu then pulled out a rack of robes of all styles and
colours from what seemed like out of no where. "You can wear a robe
if you want. It's more comfortable. Pick one you like. It's on me!"
the red head said with a huge smile.
****
At dusk, the festival officially began. Amasa wandered the town
eating a ghost popsicle as well while wearing a giant cape with an
overly large hood that covered and shadowed all but his lower face.
He was sure people who recognized Cecil or Golbez would be here and
he didn't need people thinking he was either of the two men...

Subject: The Festival!
"Ugh..." Chrissa growled, annoyed by the fact the culprit had
already fled.
--- "Chrissa! It's all right. I am sure thaat it just fell down,"
Mana yelled towards the floor above. ---
The Damcyan Captian looked back down at Mana and Golbez, frowning.
She knew, and even Mana should be able to tell, that the plant
couldn't have possibly fell over on its own. Not with its weight.
Mana had then put on a cheerful face, mentioning how they should
get to the party. "... You're right." Chrissa smiled, sighing and
jumping back down to rejoin them. Noting that Mana had moved the
plant to another pot, the dragoon picked up the broken pieces of
pottery. "I'll take care of this, and meet you two at the festival,
alright?"
"Chrissa, what was that noise?" Edward asked.
"Oh, we had some trouble with some plants, nothing big." she
answered.
With that Chrissa turned off and started towards her room, the
smile disappearing. She would figure it out. She would find out who
was trying to hurt her friend.
*-----------------*
"Really?! Gee, thanks Ryuu!" Eric grinned, looking over the
different robes. He took a dark blue one, with a lighter blue
striped pattern. "This'll do! I better go off and get ready then."
he said, dashing away.
"Assigned?" Carasha questioned, since she hadn't been aware of any
other ninjas in the area. "I'm afraid not your highness."
She stammered for a moment, not knowing what else to say. "Well..
Um.. I hope you enjoy your stay here, and maybe I'll see you two at
the festival." she said, quickly turning off and getting away before
she felt like a complete fool.
*------------------*
"Hey, there you are, Chris!" Eric laughed. "I almost thought you
weren't going to show up."
"Yeah, sorry about that." Chrissa smiled, wearing a yellow robe
with red floral patterns. "I've just been busy finding some paper,
see?" she said, pulling out a large piece of paper and showing it to
Eric. Over the top it said 'If you ever need a helping hand..' and
there were a couple of handprints and names under them. "It's a card
for Mana, since she's leaving... I'm getting handprints from a lot
of her friends so she'll have something when she leaves."
"Oh, I see!" Eric exclaimed. "Can I?"
"Sure!" Chrissa smiled, producing a bowl of ink. Eric dipped his
hand in, shook it a little to get rid of the excess, and then put
his hand on the card. Upon lifting it, it left a clear print. After
cleaning off his hand with a wet towel Chrissa had, he signed his
name. "Thanks!" Chrissa said, wandering off.
"Excuse me..." a familar voice came. The captian turned around to
see a black haired girl with blue eyes, dressed in a red robe with a
rose in her undone hair. Chrissa had to look twice to recognize her.
"Carasha?! Man, you look totally different without your mask or
hair up."
"I know. I wanted to ask a few questions about Ryuu... Has he ever
acted strangely, like talking to himself or nonliving objects?" the
ninja asked.
"No, I doubt he's insane like that. But then again I've only really
known him one day more then you have." Chrissa answered. Suddenly
she noticed something. "Hey... Where did you get that rose?"
"Hmm? Why?" Carasha lifted an eyebrow as the dragoon came over to
examine it.
"... That rose looks just like the ones we got at the concert!"
Chrissa started in awe. Did Carasha follow them to the dragon
festival?
"Why do you say that?"
"Ken, he told us about how they dethorned the roses, and the
specialists and all." Chrissa replied.
"What does he know?" Carasha dimissed quickly.
"... Oh wait, you don't know that Ryuu and Ken are from the concert
do you?" the blonde grinned.
"What?!" the ninja snapped.
"Yup!" Chrissa said. "Ryuu is the singer, and Ken's the guitaurist."
Carasha was silent for a moment. She suddenly remembered seeing the
guitaurist outside the concert, asking about Baron being attacked.
Is that why they were there? "I believe I'll go talk to this 'Ken'."
"Well, they should be playing tonight, so there's certainly a
chance." Chrissa replied. "Anyway, I gotta go get this finished!"
and with that she went off throught the crowd. "Garret!" she
called. "Hey, I'm making a farewell card for Mana. Could you
contribute, please?"

Garret smiled. He was dressed in a red robe with gold dragons
embroidered in. "Hey Chrissa, sure I'll sign the card. That's a
really sweet thing you are doing for Mana. You're a GOOD friend..."
he said as he signed the card with his hand print and signature. As
he was wiping his hands clean, he said "Please do enjoy the
festival. Ryuu put a lot of hard work into it and if you guys don't
have fun until you fall from exhaustion he will be disappointed.
Isn't that right Ryuu?"
Ryuu nodded vigourously.
Garret sighed. "What a perfect night this will be for couples...."
he said off handedly. "Anyways I plan on checking a few things. I
will see you guys later." With that the dragoon boy disappeared.
Ryuu bopped his own head. "Oh, I gotta get going and get ready to
sing. The first song is a slow dance so get a partner! See you guys
later!"
****
Mana had washed her hands and went to address some of the senior
dragoons. They had mixed reactions about the news of her leaving but
wished her well and a swift return. By the time Mana arrived at the
festival, the sun was almost gone. She picked up a caramel sundae
and wandered around the town. She came across the concert where the
fan girls were cheering and couples were dancing. Ryuu was there and
looking serious as Ken started the intro to the first song.
["You and me, we used to be together....
Everyday together always....
I really feel ...that I am losing my best friend
I can't believe this could be the end...."]
Ryuu sang the song in such a way Mana felt her heart ache; painfully
so.
["It looks as though you're letting go, and if it's real, well I
don't want to know..."]
Mana looked at Ken. His eyes looked glazed over as if it was taking
everything he had to play the song properly. The song seemed to
really bring back bad memories for him. Ryuu had a sad expression on
his face as well. It made the girl wonder what they have suffered in
the past.
["....our memories...well they can be inviting but some are
altogether, mighty frightening...."]
Mana held her head as it felt like something was trying to break out
of her mind.
["...as we die, both you and I, with my head in my hands I sit and
cry..."]
For a brief moment Mana had a vision of someone crying in the rain...
["...it's all ending, I gotta stop pretending who we are...
I know what you're thinking
Don't tell me cause it hurts!
...I know what you're saying
...and I don't need your reasons
...I know you're real good....
Don't...don't...hush, hush...darling..."]
Mana thought she was about to cry. Thankfully the song was soon over
and Ryuu jumped off the stage and ran towards her during the break.
"Hey! What's with that sad look? Are you sad because you had no one
to dance with?"
"No...it's just that song..."
"Ken or I would dance with you but we had to perform the song and
here let me make it up to you..." Ryuu pulled out a ghost
popsicle. "Wild strawberry flavour! Why don't you go play some games
and win prizes? That'll make you feel better! I'm going to find the
others before I have to play another song. See ya!"
****
Amasa watched from the crowd while Ryuu and Ken were playing. He
took an occassional glance at Mana. He knew the girl was hiding
something from everyone...but it seemed something else was hidden
within her...and it seemed that Ken and Ryuu knew what that was...

"Yeah, see you later..." Chrissa nodded, not quite paying attention
when Ryuu left to perform. There was something suspicious about the
way Garret was acting.
--- "You're a GOOD friend." ---
--- "What a perfect night this will be for couples.." ---
Chrissa couldn't help but feel uncomfortable about the way he said
those. She shook the thoughts out of her head however, going and
finding more soldiers in the crowd. "Hey! Could you sign the card,
please?" she asked.
Carasha waited at her table while the slow song was going on. She
couldn't help but glance around at all the couples. "... Saps." she
muttered to herself. She noticed Mana was reacting a little like she
had at the concert to the song. Maybe she was a big fan of these two.
The ninja, however, got a different impression when she looked over
at Ryuu and Ken. On stage, singing that song, they seemed different
then usual, with the somber mood of the song affecting them.
After it was over, Ryuu immediately went over to Mana, then rushed
off. Carasha took this oppertunity to get up and go over to the
guitaurist while he was taking care of his equipment. "Excuse me,
Ken." the girl started. "I was wondering if I could talk to you
about Ryuu.... How long have you two known each other?"

'Remeber....hush, hush....darling...' Ken thought as he watched Mana
walk off into the crowd. More than anything he wanted to hold her
and tell her everything would be all right in the end but to
her...he was nothing more than Ryuu's friend...she didn't know him -
to be more exact, she didn't remember him. That of course was to be
expected and it didn't bother Ken that much. He was putting away his
instrument as was giving instructions for the second song that would
be performed once the break for the band was over.
---"Excuse me, Ken." the girl started. "I wwas wondering if I could
talk to you about Ryuu.... How long have you two known each other?"--
-
Ken turned around. It was that ninja girl that had been poking her
nose around lately. What was her name again? Carasha...yes that's
right...She was at the Dragon Festival too...
"So you're another one of his fans as well?" Ken began the
conversation lightly even though he suspected she knew something
that would be a threat to him or Ryuu. "I've known him all my life
and we've been living together for almost as long. His favourite
food is grilled chicken...favourite colour is green...likes to take
naps...annoy or embarrass me..." Ken held up his left hand and began
using his fingers like an abacus while noting Ryuu's likes and
dislikes, casually avoiding what he suspected Carasha's true motive
for asking the questions to be.
"If you want to really know more about him, you should ask him
yourself. He's quite open and honest and would be more than happy to
lavish attention on a fan," Ken stated finally. "Now is there
anything else I may help you with? I know! Why don't you join me for
a nice cold snack? I could answer more of your questions about the
band and such if you like. I am not really doing anything important
during the break."
Some fan girls overheard Ken and wailed but he ignored them.
"How about it? It'll be my treat."
'That way I can keep an eye on you as well...'

Carasha stared up at Ken quizzitively. Either he was being
secretive about Ryuu, or he just didn't want to talk about him. Then
he asked her to join him for a snack? The ninja couldn't remember
the last time a man had offered that. Mostly because she had to tell
them off, whether she wanted to or not.
But maybe she could find out something. The wailing of the fan
girls decided it. "Sure." she smiled. "I would love to."
"Woo!" Chrissa sat down at a table with her brother. "I need some
more paper. And a clean towel.. I never realized Mana had so many
friends."
"I know!" Eric nodded, chomping down on some food. "But the weird
thing is, no one was dancing with her while Ryuu and Ken were
playing."
"Seriously?" Chrissa asked. "Surely Garret would have..."
Eric just gave a shrug. "Nope."
"... Is it me, or is Garret acting a bit off?" Chrissa asked.
"Maybe. I think it just has something to do with Golbez though."
Eric suggested. "You know he really hates that guy. More so then
even Edward. I think he's getting jeaulous of Mana and Golbez being
so friendly."
"..... How jealous, do you think?" Chrissa asked, a bit worriedly.
--------------------
"I must say, this is quite a festival." Edward commented to Rosa.
They had come a little late, since they were attending to duties,
but were now able to enjoy themselves.

Golbez had changed into the robe that Mana presented him with. He still
wore
his sword, though the weapon was peace-bonded with a simple knot. Golbez
could remove the knot easily enough if the need arose but he kept the
knot
symbolically in place, at least.
The sorcerer approached Rosa and bowed. Tonight, he'd be her bodyguard
detail
unless she wanted him to go elsewhere. "Good evening, Your Majesties,"
Golbez
greeted, bowing once to Edward as well.
-----
"Do I -really- have to wear this thing?" Edge grumbled, picking at the
long
kimono and obi that Rydia had dressed him in. The ninja king was
unmasked,
dressed in a dark grey kimono that was embroidered with flames. Rydia,
as
usual, wore green.
"Yes, you do," the caller girl commanded, "It's traditional to wear
these
for
the festival. Now quit whining. We have to go greet Rosa and Edward."
Edge opened his mouth to protest but Rydia silenced him with a look.
Together, the two went off in search of Rosa.
-----
They found Rosa easily enough and approached her. To their surprise,
Edward
was attending as well. And even greater surprise: Golbez was there.
"Edward, Rosa," Rydia said softly, "It is good to see you again."
Edge stiffened a bit at the sight of Golbez. The sorcerer hadn't been
directly responsible for the attack and ruination of Eblan but it was
his
minion who engineered it. The rumors all said that Golbez had changed
but
Edge wasn't entirely ready to let his guard down...Not even though he

Subject: Re: [Dragoons' Dungeon] Insight...
Mana sighed as she wandered around town. Part of her couldn't
believe she was leaving Baron but part of her thought her
resignation was long overdue.
"Mana, what are you doing here alone?"
Mana turned around to see Ken and a girl enjoying snowcones. The
dragoon girl blinked quickly twice...that girl looked a lot like...
"Carasha! Ken!"
Ken ordered an ice cream cone with caramel melted on top.
"You like caramel don't you?" he asked as he handed her the cold
dessert.
"Yes, how did you know?"
"I saw you eating a caramel sundae earlier. Are you heading towards
Grampa Dorian's booth? I think the others will be there soon if Ryuu
finds them."
And indeed he had. "Chrissa! Eric! There you guys are! There's a
great food booth you have to come and see!"
It wasn't as if Ryuu was giving them an option as he grabbed both
their hands and dragged them away.
The red head was so excited he ran right into Ken's chest head first.
"What amazes me, is that out of all the people in town, you ran head
first into me and not anyone else with your lack of looking ahead,"
Ken said in a monotone.
Ryuu chuckled nervously. "Oh look! There's Grampa Dorian's booth.
Looks like he reserved it for us!" he said trying to divert
attention from him.
Everyone took a seat around the booth while a man who looked a lot
like Santa Claus was grilling up some food for them.
Mana looked around. "Where's Garret and the others?"
Ken was speading some butter on bread and pointed with the butter
knife in his hand. "I have no idea where Garret is but there are the
royals and Golbez being surrounded by people."
Everyone turned around and saw that Golbez was being clawed at by
girls trying shove cards in his robe pockets, Rosa having men trying
to attract her attention, Edward being surrounded by fans and the
Eblan couple recieving similar attention.
Mana giggled. "Oh my. Poor Golbez! I bet he never had that many
people after him!"
"Well they don't really know who he is," Ken said off handly. "If
they did, they would be running in terror."
Ryuu looked a little worried. "Shouldn't we save them? I mean, we
can't let them get torn apart..."
"But shouldn't Golbez mingle with the crowd?" asked Mana. "He hasn't
had much time to socialize recently."
"Golbez has the ability to socialize?" asked Garret who suddenly
showed up.
"He should mingle with the crowd - not get mangled," Ken pointed
out. "I doubt the Eblan couple will have a problem getting rid of
some of the crowd but Edward and the others might have trouble since
they are single. I'll 'save' Rosa. Mana, you should get Golbez and
who should save Edward?"
"Me! Me!" said Ryuu enthusiastically with his hand up in the air.
Ken raised an eyebrow. "I think YOU would count as a fan that would
endanger his Highness. But I guess you are a lesser danger than the
crowd. So shall we then?"
Ken walked up quickly to Rosa. "May I have the honour to escort you
to a seat?" he asked after he plowed through the crowd.
Ryuu practically jumped on Edward. "King Edward! Come with me!" he
said while pulling the Damcyan king with him back to the food stand.
Mana had less success. When she tried to get closer to Golbez, she
was pushed aside by more than one of the girls.
"He's mine! No, he's going to come with me! No way!"
Apparently no one recognized her or bothered to recognize her.
Ken, who was still waiting from a reply from Rosa gave Mana a look
that said, 'Where is your pride?'
Mana cleared her throat and clearly said above the screaming voices
of the girls, "Excuse me, he is ..."
Ken nodded for her to continue as it looked like she was going to
falter.
"...my date for tonight so I would appreciate that you leave him
alone." Mana held out her hand nervously towards Golbez. "Shall we?"
Garret was eating at the booth and over heard what Mana said despite
the noise of the crowds. The cup and chopsticks in his hands broke.
Ryuu of course was talking Edward's head off and putting every kind
of food Grampa Dorian cooked onto his plate.

she thought possible.
"Hello Golbez."
Before she could ask him if he was enjoying himself Rydia and Edge
approached their ever increasing group of people.
"Hello Rydia...Edge..."
She nodded her head in their direction.

Edward had only given a slight acknowledgement to Golbez. Sure, he
didn't look half as intimidating without his armor, but still,
Edward couldn't help but feel anger.
He tried to dispel it by greeting Rydia and Edge. But suddenly he
noticed the crowd around themselves had grown much thicker. Suddenly
there were all sorts of cards being stuck in Golbez's, Rosa's, and
his own pockets, while the men tried to woo the queen, and girls
were trying to catch the men's attention. Edward was even sure he
felt some of the people tugging at him trying to pull him off.
Luckily, thats when Ryuu, Ken, and Mana saved them, as Edward felt
himself being pulled to a table with the rest of his friends. He
nodded them a quick hello, but not before Ryuu was suddenly talking
to him at full speed, while piling more food then Edward could hope
to eat on a plate.
"Poor guy. Maybe we should have left him to the crowd." Chrissa
whispered jokingly to Eric.
Eric gave a slight nod, then turned over to Carasha. "So... Who're
you? I didn't know Ken had a girlfriend."
Carasha gave a glare over to Eric. "I'm NOT his girlfriend." she
huffed quickly.
"No, she seems more interested in Ryuu." Ken nodded slightly. The
ninja's glare became harder.
"I just wanted to ask some questions!!! That doesn't mean I like
anyone!" she hissed, turning in her seat to put her back to the
group.
".. Touchy.." Chrissa whispered again.
Eric decided quickly to change the subject. "So.. um... Rosa? I'm
not sure if you heard or not... but.. I'm striving to become a
Paladin... And I believe to do that, I might need to take the sword
Excaliber from the throne room up to Mount Ordeals... So I'm asking
to borrow the sword upon my departure from Baron."
Edward, whom was trying to think of a polite way to tell Ryuu to
quit putting food on his plate, glanced over towards the
conversation. "And when are you leaving?"
Eric shrugged. "I'm not sure yet."

Golbez paused just a moment. He was fairly shocked that Mana would
approach
him like that so boldly. However, he wasn't about to turn her down.
Gently,
he reached out and took her hand.
"Yes," he said softly, "We shall." He almost, but not quite managed to
crack
a smile.
-----
Edge and Rydia were pushed back a bit when the mob overran Golbez and
Rosa.
They quietly locked arms and retreated from the crowd.
"Remember that ninja girl from before?" Edge asked.
"Yes," Rydia said tightly, expecting Edge to comment on how cute the
girl
was.
To her surprise, Edge's response was different.
"We should find her. If she's been here for a while, we could have her
show
us around the festival."
Rydia raised her eyebrows. "What a good idea!" she said and beamed at
her
husband. Slowly, they weaved together through the crowd to try and find
Carasha.

Mana felt a huge wave of relief when Golbez took her hand. She was
so sure he would turn her down. He didn't look too happy in taking
her hand. She looked at Ken who was keeping men from getting their
hands on Rosa. She was having doubts if she should've said what she
did. The fan girls were not very happy that Golbez had gone with
Mana. In fact they were looking at the two like hawks to see any
indication if they could barge in and push Mana out of the picture.
Ken just shook his head and nodded towards where everyone else was
happily eating. Mana took a seat beside Golbez as Grampa Dorian
started serving the next wave of food.
"You should've left him to mingle with his fan girls and get
mangled," Garret said in a very cold tone while eating. He was
sitting a few seats away from Mana.
Mana seemed flustered. "Um, maybe you are right." She turned to
Golbez. "I'm sorry Golbez. It's just that...Ken thought the crowd
was dangerous...so...he asked me to...come and get you..." the girl
was very embarrassed. "So, I'll understand if you are angry and wish
to go back to those girls. B-but at least try some of Grampa
Dorian's food first. Ryuu worked extra hard to find him so he could
come to Baron."
Grampa Dorian just laughed. "So who is your new friend Hiryuu-chan?"
he asked while cooking another dish. Very few people knew Mana's old
last name.
"His name is Golbez Harvey," Mana said while nervously taking a sip
of her drink.
Dorian's eyes narrowed slightly and he stopped flipping some of the
food. He let his assistants take care of the rest and walked over to
Golbez and took a good look at him.
Ken had managed to save Rosa from the crowd of men and took a seat
on the other side of Golbez.
"Golbez eh?" Dorian said while peering into the dark sorcerer's eyes
as if looking for something. "Any relation to the Golbez that tried
to take over the world in the Crystal War?"
"N-no," Mana said. "He's not the Golbez of the Crystal War." It
wasn't a lie in the total sense of the word. Mana believed, or at
least wanted to believe so.
Garret scoffed. "What would you've done if he was Grampa Dorian?"
Dorian laughed jovially. "I would've poisioned his food! He made
Mana cry when she found out Kain was being used by him." Dorian
shook his head and patted Mana on the shoulder. "I never want to see
you cry again but if you need to cry, I'll come a running."
"Thank you Grampa," Mana said with a sad smile.
"So, what do you think of him?" asked Ken.
Dorian faced Golbez again, pinched the dark sorcerer's nose and
cheeks in a playful manner as if he was nothing more than a child.
He gave Golbez a hard pat on the shoulder that almost sent the man
face first into his food and ruffled his hair. "Well, I think he is
VERY rough around the edges but REALLY DEEP DOWN, he's a good boy."
"Really?" wondered Ken as he took a sip of his
drink. "Interesting..."
"Indeed," said Garret.
Ryuu took a notice of the robe Golbez was wearing. "Hey, I would've
never have thought it, but you got good taste in clothes afterall. I
saw that robe being sold at the Dragon Festival. Very rare and
special one at that it is. Very pricey too." Suddenly without
warning, Ryuu threw a dagger with assassin accuracy aimed at
Golbez's heart. Mana and Ken held Golbez in place so he would not be
able to defend himself. He didn't need to as it was revealed. Once
the tip of the dagger touched the robe, the weapon shattered into a
harmless pile of rubble. "Very special indeed," Ryuu commented while
nodding his head and ignoring some of the shocked looks of some of
the people at the table. Mana, Ken, Dorian and Garret did not seemed
disturbed at the fact that Ryuu casually threw a weapon with a
killer aim. "But I didn't see you there to buy that robe. I know the
shop owner and he said a girl bought it. You may be a pretty boy
Golbez but no way would even you get mistaken for a girl."
"Well, it looks like assassination is out for tonight," said Garret
casually while watching Mana dust off what remained of the weapon
off of Golbez.
"Garret!" Mana giggled as she thought what he said was a joke. "Stop
being so scary!"
A passing soldier noticed someone was with Mana and decided it was
safe to walk up to her. "So, who is the guy with the guts to sit
near you Commander?" he asked amazed. "Well, I should've known. Only
General Harvey would have the nerve or guts."
"Hey Brian! Er...what do you mean by that?" Mana asked.
Brian looked at Garret. "Well Garret told everyone that if he saw
any of us with his girl, he'd kill us."
"Garret! Are you trying to ruin my social life?" Mana asked while
making a face at Garret.
"Damn right," said Garret as he quickly gave Golbez a death
glare. "Because
YOU are MY girl."
Brian chuckled. "Well...I have duties to attend to and maybe later I
might be as gutsy as Golbez as to be near you," he said as he walked
off.
Mana giggled and smiled as it seemed everyone was enjoying
themselves. She took glances every now and then at Golbez and
wondered if he was enjoying some time off like everyone else...

Even despite the unwarranted attack, Golbez found himself enjoying the
festival. Slowly, he began to allow himself to relax more. Finally, he
did
the unthinkable:
Golbez smiled.
He turned to Mana. "Thank you," he said, "for the 'rescue' from the
girls.
I
am pleased that you came." It was a simple gesture, but
uncharacteristic
from
the usually somber and serious Golbez.

Everyone was suprised to say the least when they thought they had
seen a miracle. Golbez had actually smiled. Golbez, in the words of
Garret, the BIG stiff of Baron, was actually relaxed and smiling!
Even after Ryuu's 'attack'...
Garret caught the look in Golbez's eyes when he thanked Mana. He
broke his second pair of chopsticks and glass.
Dorian muttered something about needing to get stronger cups.
Garret then realized something. 'Dragon Festival...robe....a girl
bought it...Golbez was now wearing it...Mana was talking to Golbez
earlier that day...' Garret choked and started to cough violently.
"Garret! Are you all right?" Mana looked concerned.
"Yeah, I am fine. I just saw something that made me sick," Garret
said while looking at Golbez.
"O-okay..." Mana cautiously went back to enjoying her drink.
Mana was blushing. She couldn't help it. Golbez said he was actually
pleased that she 'rescued' him. After seeing him smile....she hadn't
seen him smile since Cecil died...
Suddenly another knife was headed towards Golbez. The robe of course
took care if it and more rubble piled onto Golbez's lap.
"Oops. It slipped out of my hand," said Garret through clenched
teeth and a narrow gaze.
Garret decided to leave the table. He couldn't stand looking at
Golbez. When Mana was leaning over playfully fighting Ryuu with her
chopsticks trying to get the best piece of chicken on the grill,
Garret walked behind Golbez and whispered in the dark man's ear. "I
heard a giant pot nearly fell on you. It must be nice to have fast
reflexes. Though one should have a care where they stand next time
and who they are standing next too..."
Garret harshly patted Golbez on the shoulder and gave it a firm
squeeze that had Golbez been another man, would've crushed his
shoulder before leaving...

"What?"
"...oh, nothing. Well, what do you want to do?"
Runic stood up and patted the dirt off his clothes, "I want to find

"Runic, you know the Queen is at the Castle."
"No... I beleive thats what they want everyone to beleive... I

Golbez's mood darkened considerably. He had hoped to be able to -enjoy-
the
Lantern Festival. In fact, he even was hoping that idiots like Garret
would
forget about the enmity growing between them and worry about the
festival.
Apparently, his hopes were in vain. Still, he was not about to let the
night
be ruined. And, given the opportunity, he would send a lantern out for
his
brother.
He calmly stood and dusted the weapon rubble from his robe. Sitting back
down, he leaned over to Mana and whispered, "I am sorry that you had to
witness those. I regret feeling as though I am ruining your enjoyment
at the
festival."
The sorcerer turned and stared down into his plate.
*******
"Wow, this is amazing!" Rydia smiled, taking in the whole festival.
"Yeah," Edge didn't quite sound as enthusiastic. In fact, he looked a
little
bit bored. Scratching his head, the ninja wondered what was so great
about
lanterns.
Rydia hmphed and grabbed her husband's hand. She dragged him through the
crowd until they caught sight of Edward.
"Edward!" Rydia beamed, "How are you? I haven't seen you in ages!"
Edge puffed out his chest and tried to look big. He knew Edward was
quite the
charmer and so he was a wee bit jealous...even though he wasn't quite
aware of
it himself.

Chrissa watched off after Garret, eyebrows knitted. Obviously Eric
was right, there looked to be a huge jealousy factor involved. But
throwing a knife at Golbez? Sure, the man was protected by the robe,
but there was obviously no jest involved in Garret's actions.
Edward was worried also, but then he heard familar voices behind
him. He turned his head quickly. Catching sight of Edge and Rydia
coming over, he grinned, glad to see them, and also glad to have a
reason to escape from Ryuu. The Damcyan King stood up from the
table, greeting them.
"Edge! It's been a while!" Edward gave a bow then shook the ninja
king's hand. "Rydia, always a pleasure to see you." he took up her
hand, kissing it.
Carasha glanced up when she heard the greeting, then sat up
straight and proper. "Good day my lord and lady!" she called, waving
over at Edge and Rydia.
"Hmm, ever notice she acts differently when they're around?"
Chrissa whispered to Ryuu jokingly.
"Come, won't you join us?" Edward asked the couple. "There's plenty
of food...." he chuckled, looking back at his plate which Ryuu had
mounted with food.

Edge kept trying to act macho, especially after Edward started working
his
charm. Kissing Rydia's hand. Hmmph. Did he think he was some kind of
perfect gentleman or something? He stood with his arms crossed over his
chest. Fortunately for him, his mask covered the dirty face he gave
Edward
for a second.
Rydia giggled girlishly when Edward kissed her hand. "Oh, now Edward,
you
don't have to do that," she gently chided him. She smiled and waved to
Carasha and then, turning back to Edward, said, "We'd be glad to join

Her eyes caught sight of Edge's glowering face. A swift, subtle, and
sharp
elbow to the ninja's ribs and his expression changed immediately.
"Yeah," he
said cheerfully, "What's cooking?"

Mana didn't understand what Golbez was saying. She whispered
back. "Golbez, Ryuu and Garret weren't being serious. They were just
having fun testing the robe. You know how silly they both are." Mana
put down her chopsticks and held Golbez's hand in both of hers and
looked directly at him with really happy eyes and a smile. "You're
not ruining anything so stop feeling that way. I'm having a great
time being with you. I'm so glad you came. I hope you are enjoying
this festival with me."
Ken, of course heard this and just continued to eat quietly. There
were many things to think about and now his mind was no longer
concerned with just Golbez.
Ryuu giggled and nodded when he heard Chrissa's comment while still
absent mindedly piling more food on the Damcyan's king's plate.
"What's cooking is whatever you want to eat," answered Dorian to
Edge's question.
"Queen Rydia, King Edge, welcome." Mana stood up and bowed. "K-chan
has told me many wonderful things about you Queen Rydia and many
colourful things about you King Edge." She noticed that Edge was
getting a little worked up over Edward. "Although, he didn't tell me
that you were quite handsome," she added in hopes in raising Edge's
cheer.
"Hey you gotta show me that smoke trick of yours!" said Ryuu as Edge
sat down.
"Anyone up for dessert?" asked Dorian.
"Oooh! Me! Me! Me!" said Ryuu enthusiastically with his hand up in
the air like a child. "Er...and everyone else," he added seeing
everyone's expression when looking at him.
Mana giggled as Dorian served out various flavours of ice cream.
"So, what kind of sprinkles would you like on your ice cream Golbez?
Stars? Moons? Swords? There's all sorts of shapes. I'm going for
little dragons myself," the girl said while looking for the right
sprinkle package in the basket that Dorian handed out. "Oh, Grampa
Dorian, I would like raspberry syrup and raspberries on my ice
cream."
"Okay!" Dorian said with a smile. "So what would the Eblan couple
like?"
****
Amasa made his way to Dorian's booth and took a seat slightly away
from everyone.
Dorian noticed another customer and cheerfully went to greet
him. "Hello, how may I help you?"
"I'll have a 'Triple D'," he said.
Dorian raised his eyebrow in curiousity. Ken and Mana also over
heard this order. The 'Triple D' was a special dish served only to
Dorian's friends and family and only they knew about it.
"What does 'Triple D' stand for?" asked Dorian.
"'Dorian's Deluxe Delight," Amasa replied calmly while looking
directly at Dorian.
Dorian let out a surprised gasp and looked towards the group and
back at Amasa again. "Sure, coming right up," he said finally. When
the dish was finally prepared, Dorian took a seat near Amasa to
observe him some more. "How is this possible?" he asked softly.
"Anything is possible," said Amasa.
"You look just like them," Dorian said in awe.
"Please don't remind me. I prefer not to be associated with *him*,"
said Amasa while taking a glance at Golbez. His eyes narrowed
slightly as he watched Mana happily chatting with Golbez trying to
get the man to try out various flavours of ice cream with various
toppings.

Mana knew it was hard for Rosa to accept Eric's request and it was
really brave of her to do so.
"Here Rosa, flower shaped sprinkles for your ice cream," the girl
said as she passed Rosa a sprinkle package. Mana wondered if she
could be as strong as Rosa. Mana thought about Kain and her chest
started to hurt...
"So where are Cecil and Kain?" asked Dorian finally.
Mana choked on her latest spoonful of ice cream. She looked away
from Dorian.
"They had some personal business to attend to so they could not
make it for this year's festival," replied Ken like nothing was
wrong.
Mana was a little bewildered. Surely Dorian had to have heard that
Kain and Cecil were dead...
"Oh, I see..." said Dorian a little disappointed. "Well, when you
get the chance, tell them to send a message to me."
"Yes Grampa," Ken said calmly. "I promise."
****
'Look at these idiots. Not a care in the world. Well, they'll soon
learn...' someone thought bitterly as they walked around looking at
everyone at the festival. 'I'll do it for my master...' Their eyes
finally fell upon Mana and everyone at Dorian's booth. 'Their lives
will belong to him and him alone!'
****
Amasa felt a strangely familiar cold chill in his soul.
"Excuse me, would you like your fortunes told?" said a voice from
behind everyone. Everyone turned around. A darkly cloaked figure
stood behind them. The hood shadowed their face and the sleeves were
so large they covered the wearer's hands and hung over them like a
frozen waterfall. They looked more like a solid spector. (like the
ghosts on the Phantom train in FF6)
Mana didn't want to let dark feelings ruin the night. "Sure, why
not?"
The hood turned and looked at everyone in turn. An arm gestured to
each person as the fortune teller told their fortunes.
"You will fall and be covered in darkness," they said to Eric. "You
three," he began for Edge, Rydia and Carasha, "shall be revealed to
be plotting against Baron." They then turned to Chrissa. "You will
be unable to stop what you have been worrying about lately. Your
attempts will end in failure."
Ken gave the fortune teller a narrow glance.
"You two," he said towards Ryuu and Ken, "shall die while protecting
the people you love."
Ryuu stood up suddenly and the look on his eyes was not friendly. He
looked positively murderous even if the rest of his face looked
calm. "You're out of line!" he said.
The fortune teller continued not fazed at all by Ryuu. "You," they
said to Rosa, "shall be the cause for this country's downfall. You
will ignite a rage that will not be calmed."
'What is up with this guy?' thought Mana.
"You," he said to Golbez, "I see blood on your hands. The blood on
your hands belongs to the one you hold most dear. It is her blood I
see on your hands." They pointed to Mana. "In fact her blood is
being spilled right now for your sake. She will die soon because of
you!"
Amasa suddenly stood up. Something was wrong and it wasn't just the
fortune teller. '...this feeling...it shouldn't exist here...'
Mana couldn't take this anymore. How dare they say such horrible
things about everyone? How dare he say such things to poor Golbez
who was doing his best trying to please everyone? She suddenly stood
up with her hand raised and ready to slap him. She wasn't a violent
person but she wanted to hit this person so hard so very badly!
The fortune teller caught her arm easily in a strong death like
grip. You couldn't see his hand, only the cloth around Mana's wrist.
Mana winced and cried out in pain. She felt as if her life was being
sucked out of her.
"You, girl... shall be killed by the person that loves you and he
kills you out of his own free will. The darkness is coming and the
Master will finally claim your soul as it was meant to be!" The
fortune teller then looked at Edward. "You shall witness all of
this...how it all comes to pass and yet not be able to do anything
before you die a painful death in Baron."
Amasa made his way forward to the group making sure Rosa could not
see his face.
The fortune teller looked at the boy and even if no one could see
it, they could feel the smile. "You know what I say is true,
especially for that man," he said while pointing to Golbez. "In fact
you were there to witness him personally murdering your mother. You
have come to Baron to stop him from commiting murder again yet
lately you found yourself lacking the resolve needed to avenge your
mother."
Amasa froze in his tracks.
Mana tried to pull herself free from the fortune teller but her
attempts were in vain.
The fortune teller just cackled.

Runic and Alex too had been walking around the Festival. They watched
as everyone was having a good time. A cool breeze blew, the setting
was relaxing.
"So what do you think of all of this?" Runic asked Alex, winking at a
couple of young girls walking the opposite direction.
"I am not sure I know what you mean, young Master," Alex replied,
adjusting his gear.
Runic chuckled at his reply, "Hehe, nevermind. I was just thinking
outloud I suppose." He pulled an apple out of his satchle and rubbed
it on his coat. "I cannot remember the last time you called me young
master..." he said, proceeding to take a bite of the fruit. The
juices ran down his chin as he wiped them with his sleeve.
"The last meeting with our predicesor in Fabul, I believe."
"...Hey, Isn't that Ken and Ryu" Runic said nudging Alex.

[Dorian's Food Booth]
{Before the Dark Fortune}
Runic and Alex just sat a distance away, but close enough to listen
to their conversation.
"Why are we sitting here?" Runic sighed, "We should be over there
with them. Why are we hiding from them?"
"I just want to make sure they are trustworthy."
"What does that mean... it's us who offered to help them. If anything
we should be prooving that we are trustworthy, and eaves-dropping
definitly puts us on the opposite side of trust..."
"Shut up Runic..."
<"Excuse me, would you like your fortunes told?">
"Who are those creepy looking guys?" Runic said, pointing at the
cloaked figures.
<Mana didn't want to let dark feelings ruin the night. "Sure, why
not?">
{After the Dark Fortune}
<...Mana tried to pull herself free from the fortune teller but her
attempts were in vain.
The fortune teller just cackled.>
Runic stood and bolted towards the figure holding Mana.
"Runic! No!"
The figure released Mana as he tumbled to the ground with Runic. The
contact with the cloaked figure seemed to have knocked Runic
unconcious...

ooc: Great to see you again Fox. Yes, it feels great to be online

bic: <"Here Rosa, flower shaped sprinkles for your ice cream.">
Rosa mummbled a thank you and decided to emerse her attention in the
ice cream sitting in front of her. She took a small bite and sighed.
The coldness from the dessert made her feel a little better. It
almost had a soothing quality, or maybe it was the sprinkles...
<"So where are Cecil and Kain?">
Rosa was lucky the ice cream was melting the moment it touched her
tongue or she would have choked.
'How can he not know...?'
She was prevented from responding by Ken. She couldn't help admitting
she was relieved.
<"They had some personal business to attend to so they could not
make it for this year's festival.">
Rosa settled back into eatting her ice cream when a fortune teller in
dark robes approached their table asking if they wanted their
fortunes told.
"No than..." Mana interuppted Rosa.
"Sure, why not?"
Rosa decided if Mana was in the mood for fortunes, then it was okay.
However, she regretted not putting her foot down and saying no when
the fortune teller gave his or her's bleak predictions. Rosa's ice
cream melted into a pool of liquid as she pushed it away from her.
She couldn't believe what she was hearing. Everyone's predictions
were horrible.
<"You shall be the cause for this country's downfall. You will
ignite
a rage that will not be calmed.">
Rosa turned pale. Her country meant everything to her. She couldn't
imagine doing something that would cause so much pain to her beloved
people. She felt tears well in her eyes as she stood up and faced the
fortune teller.
"I *will not* do as you have predicted. You have made a mistake."
What Rosa said was lost in the next stage of events. Mana stood up to
slap the fortune teller, someone came to their table, the fortune
teller grabbed Mana's hand, she winced in pain, and then someone else
from another table attacked the fortune teller and was knocked
unconscious.
"What the...?"
Rosa didn't know what to do or say.

A smile slowly covered Eric's face. "THANKS ROSA!" He almost
shouted. He was so psyched, now he would be able to travel to Mount
Ordeals, and become a paladin like in all those stories he heard.
Chrissa hesistated when Ken told Dorian about Cecil and Kain not
showing because of 'personal business'. Was it suppose to be kept
from others that Cecil and Kain were gone? But Chrissa didn't argue
the point, as didn't anyone else.
But then, that's when things started turning terrible, when the
fortune teller came. Chrissa had never been one to take fortunes
seriously, but as soon as the man started...
~~"You will fall and be covered in darkness," the fortune teller
said to Eric.~~
Eric turned away from his desert, staring at the man with large
eyes. "..... Don't expect me to pay for that fortune." he then
turned back to his ice cream. It wasn't that the fortune didn't
bother him. It did quite severely. But he felt that turning cowardly
wouldn't suffice his aspirations.
~~"You three," he began for Edge, Rydia and Carasha, "shall be
revealed to be plotting against Baron."~~
Carasha turned to the side, containing a laugh. Seriously, they had
no intention of overthrowing Baron at all, so what was this coot
talking about?
~~They then turned to Chrissa. "You will be unable to stop what you
have been worrying about lately. Your attempts will end in
failure."~~
Chrissa gave a worried glance towards him. By this point, she
realized the man wasn't about to say anything nice to anyone, but..
he really did seem to know something.. He knew what she was trying
to do...
Ryuu had stood quickly at his and Ken's fortune, surprising
Chrissa. But it would be easy to see why these fortunes would turn
happy-go-lucky Ryuu angry.
And then Rosa was told to be the downfall of the kingdom? She's
what has been holding it up for as long as it has.
As soon as the fortune teller started on Golbez and Mana, the group
could hardly take it anymore. But before they could do anything,
Mana stepped up, about to slap the fortune teller. But the prophet
caught her grip, continuing to rattle out more dreadful predictions.
~~The fortune teller then looked at Edward. "You shall witness all
of this...how it all comes to pass and yet not be able to do
anything before you die a painful death in Baron."~~
Edward narrowed a glare at the fortune teller. He was starting to
get sick of this man and his visions.
Then he pointed out a man in the crowd, whom appearently had a
mother murdered by Golbez. While no one could doubt it, it was to be
remembered Golbez was a different man then.
Eric took a breath, drawing out the sword he kept with him. "You've
made some pretty heavy fortunes against us. I'll now ask that you
let Mana go, and be gone! We never want to see you ever again, do
you hear me?!" his teeth clentched as he gave a stern look to the
fortune teller.

Golbez felt his blood run cold at the fortune teller's prediction. His
dark-eyed gaze turned upward, to the moon floating above in the endless
sea of
stars.
I should never have come back, he thought to himself, I should have
remained
there.
He would not let Mana's blood be on his hands...If he had to, he would
return
to exile to prevent that from happening. He started to leave when he
heard
the fortune-teller speak of Amasa.
The sorcerer felt another chill...He'd killed...slaughtered...murdered
so many
before, when Zemus controlled him. He didn't even remember the countless
faces and couldn't honestly say whether or not he'd killed Amasa's
mother.
Golbez closed his eyes for a moment. He felt the ice coming back into
his
heart. For a moment, he was about to welcome it...but he knew that was
unwise. For now, at least...
******
Rydia paled noticeably. How could she, Edge, and Carasha be accused of
such a
horrible thing? Rosa was one of her dearest and closest friends. Rydia
would
never...could never betray Rosa like that!
Edge didn't take the prophet's words so quietly. "You little bastard,"
he
snarled. Had the shrouded figure not grabbed Mana then, Edge likely
would've
attacked. "You have a hell of a lot of nerve coming in here and saying
that
bullcrap! I oughtta kick your ass right now!" His hands moved to his
swords.

<10 mins before Dark Fortune>
Incentus was aware that a festival was going on in castle walls. Even
more aware was he of the plot of Ken against Golbez, and the strange
attitude Mana had seemed to keep to herself. But this was of no
consequence to Incentus. He had decided to take the night off, exiting
the castle and roam around the grass lands surrounding Baron. He
peered up at the night sky for a moment, a coldness coming over him.
His spirit churned as he pondered on the reason he had said yes to
Ken. A welling up like no other began to stir violently in his spirit
*why did I?* he thought to himself.
His thoughts faded and a song remained. It's melody made him yearn for
more, as it began to completely emmerse him in it's pleasant and
vibrant feel. The music itself seemed to speak to him, to journey and
to remember. Violent waves, destructive thoughts, burning passion and
emmense overload began to fill him. Violent nature began to well up
from within.
As he opened his eyes a grave feeling befell him, his vision turned
towards the castle, an unprecedented urge made him decide to head
back, in fear of the surroundings that might be present.
Scurrying to the festival he made his way to the activities available.
Paying little notice to anyone, and not really knowing why he was
there. But an urge come over him to head over to a balcony, where he
overlooked the castle grounds, paying notice to the numerous people
below.
OOC: I intend to be more active in this now.

The fortune teller got up and dusted himself as if nothing was wrong.
"Try to do a favour for people and this is how I get treated," he
stated with an amused voice.
"Some favour!" snapped Ryuu as he and Ken helped Runic up.
Ken slapped Runic across the face. "Wake up!"
Even when the fortune teller was tackled down and had to release
her, Mana was slightly pulled with him to the ground. She got up and
rubbed her sore wrist. She looked up at Golbez and to her, it seemed
he was slightly disturbed by the prediction about him.
Was it true? Did he really think of her that way? That could explain
the look in his eyes but if he did think of her in that way, he
would never have her blood on his hands.
For a moment it looked like Golbez was going to leave the group to
be by himself but to Mana it felt like he was going a lot farther
away. She felt a similar pain in her chest that she had felt when
she thought about Kain.
'I don't want that,' she thought. 'I don't want Golbez to go away! I
want him to stay here...with everyone...with me...'
Amasa shook his head out of his shock and said through clenched
teeth, "How dare you speak of my mother? How dare you speak of her
with your tainted mouth?!"
Mana took Golbez's hand, interlocked her fingers with his and held
it reassuringly. She looked at Amasa and felt the rage coming from
him. It was so similiar to Golbez...his aura now.
"Hmph," the fortune teller straightened his robes and looked at
Eric. "Do you see? Do you feel it now rising inside you? The
darkness I mentioned?" The fortune teller gave a final glance to
Mana. "Tell him..." he said while pointing to Golbez. "Tell him why
you are bleeding for his sake and that what I said was true. Those
two," he then pointed to Ken and Ryuu, "already know." With that the
fortune teller disappeared into the crowd.
Mana said nothing as she still held onto Golbez's hand.
Amasa stormed off.
"Hmph, I can tell better fortunes then him!" Ryuu said crossing his
arms. "Grampa Dorian!" he called then went to a remote corner to
work on something.
"Let's go play some games or something," said Ken finally. He
pointed to a games booth. "That giant stuffed white tiger toy looks
just right for you," he said to Carasha. "Do you want it?"
"Thanks for the food Grampa," said Mana as everyone finished their
food and he started to clear the table.
Dorian smiled as Mana went to discuss something with Ryuu. Seizing
his chance, he grabbed Golbez's arm and pulled the dark sorcerer
aside. "Don't you ever make her cry...again," he said. He gave
Golbez a look that told the other man that he knew full well that he
was the Golbez of the Crystal War.
Ryuu then bounced back into the group with a "cootie-catcher" he had
just made. "Lookie what I got everyone! Ken pick a colour! Blue,
Black, Red or White? Then pick two numbers between one and eight!"
Ken grimaced slightly but did what Ryuu asked.
"You will get a kiss from a jerk ninja!" Ryuu read Ken's fortune.
"Ryuu, unlike you and even if you think that King Edge is quite
handsome and 'cool', I am not going to let him kiss me," Ken said
with a slight smirk on his face. "It's not my style but I don't know
about his."
Ryuu and Mana couldn't help but laugh.
"Chrissa! Eric! Come you try too!" Ryuu said with a big smile as the
group walked over to the games booth.

Alex and Runic sat back down at the table while the others went to
play games. Alex found their behavior a bit... different. Though the
situation seemed serious to him, the others seemed to just turn away
from it. He found it rather disturbing they were not more serious
about the threats.
"Did you notice they never mentioned us?" Runic said while he watched
how cute Mana and Golbez were with each other. Ken and Ryu were more
relaxed than when he had first met them.
"What do you mean?" replied Alex has he again was adjusting his gear.
"The prophet guy had something to say about everyone. Even after I
knocked him down... he did not say anything of us in their Quest...
Now even I wonder if we are supposed to be here."
Alex just looked at him for a moment, then replied, "Do you want to
help these people? Or are your intentions a young woman?"
"I want to help!" Runic said pound his fist on the table, "I do find
the Queen very beautiful... I will try not to let it interfere with
our mission."
Alex just laughed for a moment. "Well then let's go try to fit in
with them. They seem not too worried about this so lets just follow
their lead." Alex started walking towards the others in the arcades.
Runic sat their for a moment longer, wondering what the whole prophet
thing was really about, then got up and followed Alex into the
arcades. Alex had walked up to Mana and began talking with her about
what their next plans were. Runic just sat by himself, watching the
others. He watched the Queen mostly. He admired how playful she was,
even with the recent uncomfort...

<moments before Dark Fortune>
Incentus turned his gaze towards a small booth where a group of people
seemed to be having Dinner, knowing not who they were or why he was
intent on looking there, Incentus shrugged off the thought and began
to finish off the drink he had acquired from one of the festival
stands. 'atleast i can have peace to myself' thought Incentus.
<during Dark Fortune>
But Incentus found it difficult for him to look away. A cold shiver
came over his heart and a pulsating beat began to emmerge in his
spirit. 'What is going on?' His gaze turned towards a man in a Dark
Robe (the fact he could see him was disturbing, as the booth where the
people were sitting was very far off in the distance) and for a moment
his soul came to rest. A sinister smile came over his face and he
began to be overcome by Darkness.
But the feeling subsided and he was back to his normal self. 'I should
probably head down to see who I was peering at' he thought to himself.
<moments after Dark Fortune>
Incentus began to brood in his mind the various thoughts that had
befallen him recently, and unexpectedly, new thoughts entered his head
when he thought about the group, in relation to the mysterious Man.
Incentus steadily made his way down to the group, making his way
through the crowds and finally being able to see clearly who it was he
had turned his gaze on
'Oh, so it is them... Interesting...' he thought to himself.
He peered round to see Ken, among others. It had been a while since he
saw the group, and decided to mingle with them to find out more about
who he would probably be spending more time with over the next while.
"Ken!" he shouted out. But his gaze fixated on a young swordsman and
what seemed to be his guard. 'I wonder who they are?' Incentus wondered
OOC: I'm unaware where Kain wants to take this, really. A bit of
guidance maybe needed for future posts

Eric sighed, sheathing his sword again. He was thankful things
didn't get violent. But, was he really being taken over by dark
feelings now, when he was so close to becoming a paladin? No, Eric
didn't wish to fight, only to protect his friends. With his sword
put up and the fortune teller gone, a smile returned to Eric's face
as he ran off to join the others.
Carasha, having no faith whatsoever in the fortune teller's sights,
was hardly bothered, regarding the prophet to be someone with a
grudge against the people of Baron. She glanced over at the white
tiger toy for a moment. The ninja had to admit, she rather did like
it, but she felt a little defensive about asking Ken to get it for
her. She would just have to deliver it in her usual manner.
"You think you really can?" she smirked over at Ken, challengingly.
~~"You will get a kiss from a jerk ninja!"~~
Carasha narrowed her gaze over at Ryuu, her fists clentching ready
to hit him. Of course, she wouldn't in front of his and her royal
highnesses, but how could he say such a thing?!
~~"Ryuu, unlike you and even if you think that King Edge is quite
handsome and 'cool', I am not going to let him kiss me," Ken said
with a slight smirk on his face. "It's not my style but I don't know
about his."~~
Carasha turned and looked over at Ken, surprised at his reply. Was
he standing up for her by not regarding her as a 'jerk ninja'?
Although the comment insulted his majesty, Carasha had to cover her
mouth to prevent a slight smile showing. Shoot, she should have kept
her mask. Oh well.
~~"Chrissa! Eric! Come you try too!" Ryuu said with a big smile as
the group walked over to the games booth.~~
Eric grinned. "Alright, I choose white, 4 and 2."
Chrissa couldn't help but smile at her brother. It seemed all the
stress the fortune teller brought just vanished from her brother. If
only she could get over it that easily. There was a nagging echo of
her prophecy in her head, along with that of the others.
"You will fall and be covered in darkness."
"You three shall be revealed to be plotting against Baron."
"You two shall die while protecting the people you love."
"You shall be the cause for this country's downfall. You will ignite
a rage that will not be calmed."
"You, I see blood on your hands. The blood on your hands belongs to
the one you hold most dear. It is her blood I see on your hands. In
fact her blood is being spilled right now for your sake. She will
die soon because of you!"
"You, girl... shall be killed by the person that loves you and he
kills you out of his own free will. The darkness is coming and the
Master will finally claim your soul as it was meant to be!"
"You shall witness all of this...how it all comes to pass and yet
not be able to do anything before you die a painful death in Baron."
"You will be unable to stop what you have been worrying about
lately. Your attempts will end in failure."
Chrissa tried to shake the voices out of her head. "Um, red, 3 and
9." she answered quickly, hoping for something to distract herself
with.
Edward remained silent, thinking to himself mostly.

Rosa was so confused over everything that had happened. She was also
frightened, but she refused to show it to any of her friends. As
queen, it was imperative to maintain a facade of strength and hope,
even when you might feel your whole world falling into hell.
She thanked Grandpa for the food, and watched the others play with
some mini foturne teller thing.
"I've never seen one of those before. How very odd..."
(ooc: seriously, I don't think I have. :oP I think I know what it is
supposed to look like, though.)
She felt eyes on her and looked about. Their group seemed to be
expanding. There were many new friends. She glanced at Runic, and saw
that it was him studying her. She blushed and turned away, pretending
not to see him.

felt like an outcast, whether they treated him like one or not. He
left at a very early age, although he forgets exactly what year. He

basically convinced himself that happiness comes from within, and
thus is always happy. He's had his heart broken a couple times
though, and sometimes, he lets that show. He just wandered into
baron recently, and he's been watching the people there for a while.
We see him as he decides the people are worth talking to, and thus
introduces himself.
How did you come up with your character? OR
Why did you choose to play this character?
I've always wondered what an RPG would be like if there was a REAL
person in there. A person who really didn't care much about the rest
of the world, but only about themselves. Well, it would be
interesting, but I didn't want to write that, so I chose the next
best thing. A guy who severely does not want any confrontation, but
somehow gets sucked into it anyway. I'd like to see how this
character learns about his view of happiness versus the joined
happiness of groups. Maybe he can learn that happiness can come from
within, but is much stronger if joined with other people. Maybe
after he finds love, or at least friendship, he could learn that
sometimes confrontation is necessary to bring about a higher joy...
or something.... We'll see.
**************************
Curious... A man wearing almost nothing, except for some very ragged
shorts, has been sitting near the group for a while. He looked
asleep, but he had one eye open, watching the majority of the group
from his little hiding point. He suddenly jumped up and, while
laughing loudy, staggered towards Rosa.
He stopped right in front of Rosa, and started looking at her in what
seemed to be a very serious manner. After what seemed like an
eternity, he nodded approval, and spoke.
"How do you do, dear lady? My names Winbel." The man held out his
hand in greeting. The toothy grin on his face showed two rows of
perfectly white teeth. Very strange for a man as ragged looking as
him.
'Ha ha ha. She must think I'm insane. I very well might be.' thought
winbel.

"You will be showered in starlight," said Ryuu for Eric's fortune.
Ryuu was about to begin Chrissa's fortune but then remembered there
were only eight numbers. "Chrissa, nine isn't on here. Are you
worried about what that creepy guy said? Don't worry." Ryuu gave off
a big smile and puffed up his chest and pounded on it. "I'll protect
everyone." He began Chrissa's fortune using a random number
instead. "You will be showered and serenaded in yellow."
A sly smile creeped on Ken's face. "Let's see shall we?" He went to
a nearby soldier and borrowed his helmet. "If you have a crush on
me, I'll be able to hit the center of the target with my vision
obscured."
Ryuu heard this, kneeled over and pounded the ground laughing.
Ken put the helmet on backwards, took 'aim' and tossed the dagger.
It hit dead center. Ken removed the helmet and returned it to the
soldier. He walked back, had the toy handed back to him from the
shocked vendor and then handed it to Carasha with an amused
smirk. "It looks like I hit dead center..."
Ryuu repressed the rest of his laugh and went over to Mana and did
her fortune using the "cootie-catcher". "Blue...3...1...You will be
showered with attention from someone who has always loved you."
Mana blushed.
Ryuu then went to Golbez, who still had a dark aura around him.
Golbez didn't look like he wanted to co-operate so Ryuu just picked
a random colour and numbers for Golbez. "Black...2...4... You will
kiss the girl nearest to you."
Ken heard it and scoffed.
Mana blushed. She was the only person standing right next to Golbez.
She let go of his hand and tried to hide her expression. "Ryuu...you
shouldn't say such things...You shouldn't make Golbez do something
he doesn't want to," she said. There was a slight look of
disappointment in her eyes and she sounded a little disappoint too
because everyone knew Golbez wasn't the affectionate type.
Ryuu shrugged. "His loss then."
Ken heard Incentus mention his name and Ken patted the little black
mage on top of the head. "Hey, kid. Are you enjoying the festival?"

'She just looked at me...,' Runic thought excitedly, '...I think.'
He wasn't sure if she had seen him watching her or not. 'Now she
probably thinks I am stalking her. Maybe I should go talk to her,'
he started thinking franticly, '...No, then she will definitly think
I am stalking her... Oh well, I will!' Once Runic had grasped his
confidence, he walked up to the Queen and spoke. "How are you this
evening, m'lady," he said giving a small bow, "The events sure have
taken a turn in an odd direction I would imagin."
Before she could reply a man staggered towards Rosa.

Runic found the man's behavior very odd. 'Stupid drunk,' he thought
to himself. "Sir, the Lady is very tired," he said, giving her a
small wince, "You may address her tomorrow if you so desire. On your
way please." He put his arm around Rosa's and began to escort her
away from the shaggy fellow. "I needed to speak with you anyway,
excuse me if my actions were out of line, I only was thinking in your
interest I suppose." Runic felt bad for pulling her away, he did not
want to seem like he was just trying to keep her away from other
people.
"Actually this is the first time I have been able to speak to you
since our first encounter," he said, pulling out a chair and helping
her to her seat. He too sat down. "I have wished to address you
since our meeting in the castle. I have already given you the letter
from our King in fabul, and we already pledged our loyalty to you and
your kingdom. I just wanted to speak to you in private. We want to
help, but I am not really sure what is going on anymore. Our leave of
absence has left us in the dark about what is going on. Is there
anything you can tell me, about anything... about the prophet
perhaps."

Winbel giggled at the thought of being called 'sir.' No one has
called him sir before. By the time the amusment of that moment had
passed him, he found that the lovely lady he was trying to introduce
himself to had been swept away by the young gentleman. He watched the
two sit down, then yelled over to them.
"Nice to meet you, too!"
Winbel didn't wait for a response. He ran his fingers through his
hair, pulling out a small twig, and then began to dance happily into
the crowd. Every so often, he would pick up a woman and dance with
her, twirling her around, dipping her, then returning her to a state
of shock as he danced on. By the end of the walkway, he was carrying
several purses under his belt. He sat next to a wall and began to
count his 'earnings'.

Golbez was a bit surprised when Mana grabbed his hand. Surprisingly, he
felt
like he was unable to deny her that and returned the favor, holding her
hand
as well. It was strange, Golbez thought. He'd never before in his life
experienced true romance or love. All of his life, he'd been a general,
a
soldier, a killer, and a sorcerer. Yet here, standing with Mana, felt
perfectly natural. He felt the darkness slowly begin to wash away,
cleansing
his spirit of the dark aura for a time.
But if anything should happen to Mana --
Wait, was this what love was? Golbez didn't understand it entirely, but
how
could he? The people who call themselves lovers barely understood it,
so how
could one expect a cold-blooded killer to do the same?
"You will kiss the girl standing closest to you," Ryuu said before
dancing
off. Unnoticed to anyone else, Golbez started. Kiss? He'd never had any
such ideas...
"Don't you ever make her cry...again," Dorian said. Golbez looked away,
turning his gaze back up to the moon. If he left again, would she cry?
If he
stayed, she would die...And he would rather see her alive than dead,
even if
he could only watch across the void between the moon and the earth.
Golbez quietly turned and walked off, to a secluded location within
sight of
the others, but still on his own.
"What would you have done, Cecil?" he asked quietly of the night.
**************
Rydia appreciated that Ryuu was trying to cheer everyone up, so she did
her
best to help out. She put on her best happy smile and went up to Ryuu.
"I'll
pick Black, 4, and 1," she said brightly.
Edge twitched visibly when he heard the comment about kissing, jerk,
ninja,
and King Edge. He about exploded. "I am NOT kissing ANY MEN, DO YOU HEAR
ME?!" he roared.

Alex just watched as Runic approached the Queen. He chuckled at him,
looking nervous as ever. He just let him be for a while. He sat at a
table by himself as he watched the others playing their games.
Golbez looked troubled as Mana talked with him. Ryuu and Ken were
the most perky of the crowd. They seemed to just let all their
troubles slip their minds. He wasn't sure what everyone was going to
do next, so he just waited paitently while sipping his drink.

OOC: Great enterance "Winbel". The more aggressive you are to get
your character involved the better. Jestryn, I want the characters
and players to get a little bit more accustomed to each other and
the storyline before I bombard you guys with bad guys and more
sinister plots.
Ken noticed Golbez walking off and even if his face didn't show it,
in his eyes he was very displeased. He didn't like the man but at
least he tried to be more social with everyone for Mana's sake. It
wouldn't kill Golbez to do the same.
Ryuu did Rydia's fortune. "Ohh, you got the same one as Mana! Pucker
up King Edge!" But Edge was going on about the joke fortune Ryuu had
made about a jerk ninja. The red head snickered. That fortune
could've applied to either Edge or Carasha and it was so much fun
getting such a funny emotional response from the both of them. The
glint of mischievous glee in Ken's eyes that appeared briefly told
Ryuu that Ken knew what he was thinking and agreed.
Mana was looking at a jewlery stand and noticed some curious
bracelets. There were three of the same design but made of a
different metal. There was a dragon long enough to have a name
engraved on it and the chain was adjustable. Mana wanted to buy one
but she didn't bring enough money. She had spent most of her money
on Golbez's robe. 'I can get it later,' she thought with a smile
now knowing that Golbez was perfectly safe from harm and now had the
ability to mingle with people.
"Do you want that?"
Mana jumped slightly. It was Ken.
"You've been looking at this stand for a while. Do you want that
bracelet? Pick which metal you want and I'll buy it for you."
Mana blushed with embarrassment. "Oh no, I couldn't ask..."
Ken crossed his arms and the look in his eyes told her to choose
because he wasn't going to leave until she got something.
"Um..." Mana looked back down at the bracelets. She couldn't decide.
"Sir, I would like this bracelet in all three metals it comes in -
silver, gold and platinum," Ken said before Mana could protest. "I
would like the dragons to be engraved with the name 'Mana Hiryuu
Highwind' also please."
The vendor looked up at Ken. "Say aren't you one of the members of
that band from Toroia? Could you autograph my daughter's guitar?
I'll give you the bracelets for free and make sure they are a
hundred percent pure. It would make my daughter so happy."
Ken chuckled. "I'll sign her instrument but I'll still pay for
these. But make the gold one slightly less then pure. Pure gold is
too soft to be worn, if you remember."
The vendor blushed in embarrassment and went to carry out Ken's
request and order after he signed the instrument and paid for the
items.
Ryuu noticed a giant stuffed chocobo at a ring toss game. He hopped
over to the game and won the toy and a white chocobo one for Eric.
Waddling back to the group like a penguin he handed the toys to
Chrissa and Eric. "Here you go! I hope you like it!" Ryuu reached in
a bag and handed Edward a package. "The finest writing materials for
the best bard in the world!"
Ken braided the chains of the bracelets together and put them on
Mana's left wrist.
"T-Thank you," she said still blushing.
Ken smiled and patted her on the head in a similar fashion to the
way Kain used to.
"What I would've done was make sure everyone I loved was happy even
if I was sentenced to suffer in Hell," said Ryuu in a perfect
imitation of Cecil's voice from behind Golbez. "Boo!" he said with a
wave. He had snuck away from everyone while they were
distracted. "You shouldn't be standing so far away from them. They
might get the wrong idea. -She- might get the wrong idea." Ryuu
walked in front of the sorcerer and looked him straight in the
eyes. "I would never have thought you would take some charlattan
fortune teller's predictions to heart. You're so much like Ken and
so very easy to read right now. Look, seriously Golbez, do you want
to kill Mana? No? Then what are you so worried about? You make
destiny with your own hands and there is no such thing as 'not being
able to' change the future."
A whole bunch of soldiers found Golbez and started to bombard him
with questions knocking Ryuu away.
"Is it true your robe can destroy any weapon?" The soldiers didn't
even bother to wait for an answer as they started to attack him with
various weapons to see them shatter.
A clock started to toll the time and Ken looked up suddenly. "I have
to go. See you all shortly." He then ran off.
Mana winced every time someone used a weapon to attack Golbez. She
couldn't see where he was in the crowd but she could feel the
attacks mainly because that's how the spell on the robe worked. It
was the price she was willing to pay to make sure he was not harmed
while protecting everyone at the festival. She fell on her knees and
started to feel dizzy from the sudden blood loss. Ryuu saw the blood
soaking through her yukata from underneath and knew her undershirt
could not absorb any more blood. At this rate, everyone was going to
see the blood on the former dragoon girl's clothes. Ryuu bought a
red syrupy drink and ran over quickly to Mana. He purposely tripped
and spilled it all over her yukata.
"Mana! I am so sorry! Here, let me buy you a new robe so you can get
changed into it!" he said.

"Oh, I'm sorry Ryuu." Chrissa quickly answered, smiling. "I guess
it just bothered me a little. I know you'll protect everyone."
~~"You two shall die while protecting the people you love."~~
She quickly shook her head again. "Surrounded in yellow and
serenaded, huh? Sounds romantic." Chrissa chuckled.
Carasha almost scoffed when Ken accepted the challenge, claiming if
she had a crush on him, he would hit the target blind. "Quite
confident, aren't you?" she smirked, shaking her head.
Zing! The dagger flew and hit the target in the dead center. Even
Carasha had to stare, gaping. She continued even when Ken handed her
the tiger toy. "Um... Thanks. But am I suppose to have a 'crush'
now?" she lifted an eyebrow. Sure, Ken was nice-looking, definitely
a smooth talker, but that didn't mean she was bewitched... Possible,
but not required.
Carasha quickly turned back to Edge. "Your highness, I'm sure Ken
was joking about that. He wouldn't insult your lordship." she
replied. When the ninja turned about, she found Ken missing. Then
she sighted him over by the jewelry, buying Mana bracelets.
With an angry sigh, Carasha quickly turned back, throwing her chin
up. She didn't care anyways. Not if he was going to sweet talk her,
win her gifts, then run off to the next girl.
"Hey Eric!" Carasha suddenly came up, linking arms with him. "Do
you think you can win me that stuffed dragon over there?" she asked
sweetly, glancing over to see if Ken noticed.
"Uh, what?!" Eric looked very puzzled, trying to figure out what's
going on. He was thanking Ryuu for the gifts, and the sudden
appearence of the ninja startled him.

Winbel looked up from his little corner when he heard a large
commotion. From a distance, it seemed like a large group of soldiers
were attacking someone. 'I never like to miss a good fight' giggled
the ragged young man. He hid his stash of purses behind a stone, and
sauntered over towards the group of soldiers.
'they're attacking him... the man from that group of people' Winbel,
always a curious man, wondered why. He crouched down and got a little
closer to the soldiers... 'strange, the weapons just shatter...' he
thought.
He suddenly jumped between the soldiers and Golbez. The soldiers knew
better than to continue "attacking" then. Winbel giggled as he spoke
to the soldiers. "Why, I beleive I saw a theif down that way." he
pointed towards his stash. "I saw him put something near that rock. I
just don't feel safe with a theif about, considering how little I
own. I can't afford to lose much more. Would you take a look for me,
kind gentlemen?"
Before waiting for a response, he turned to Golbez. "Very interesting
power you have there, monsoir. How does it work?" Winbel fingered the
cloth gingerly (while also looking for something to steal) "it's very
fine fabric."

Rydia giggled and grabbed Edge. Pulling him around, she yanked his mask
down
and kissed him full on the lips.
"Wow," she beamed, "Ryuu's fortune was right!"
Edge was shocked for a moment, but slowly realized what was happening
and
after the kiss, spectators could see him grinning broadly.
*********
Golbez's eyes hardened when he saw who was actually talking to. For a
moment,
he stared at Ryuu, but as he listened, the sorcerer's gaze turned
contemplative. He'd taken Ryuu for a total fool at first...but perhaps
that
impression was the wrong one.
He was about to pull rank and enforce order on the sudden throng of
soldiers
when the vagabond stepped in. The dark sorcerer gave Winbel a chilling
stare
and forcefully pushed the man back.
"Keep your hands OFF of me," he warned in a deadly menacing tone.
"All of you, return to your business," he barked at the soldiers. The
guards,
realizing their commander meant business, quickly left the scene.
"Who are you?" Golbez eyed Winbel with a look of something more than
suspicion.

~~~The dark sorcerer gave Winbel a chilling stare
and forcefully pushed the man back.~~~
Winbel fell to the ground, and rolled around laughing. It's been a
long time since someone pushed him so well. After half a moment,
though, he was on his feet again.
~~~"Keep your hands OFF of me," he warned in a deadly menacing tone.
"Who are you?" Golbez eyed Winbel with a look of something more than
suspicion.~~~
The dirty little man grinned up at golbez, and gave him a little
wink. "Why dear sir, I do apologize. My name is Winbel." Winbel tried
to clean his hand off on his shorts, then held it out to Golbez in a
very friendly manor. "Please forgive my abrupt entrance into the
situation. I should not have been so forward. Pray, would you care to
join me in a cup of wine? My treat."
Winbel couldn't help but laugh at himself. He let his humor show as a
wide grin. He was greatly ammused at the manor of the man he was
greating. He was even more ammused at the fact that if he did have
wine with the man, winbel would end up using golbez's money to pay
for it... that is, if golbez had any money. The waiter probably
wouldn't mind paying for the wine, if goblez indeed had nothing,
espeically if the waiter didn't know it was his money.

Golbez's eyes darkened. This man was an utter lunatic. For just a
moment,
the sorcerer's left hand flickered with an aura of fire, but the aura
vanished. It would not be worth it to get rid of this looney-bin.
Moreover,
the commander of Baron's military didn't make a habit of carrying money
with
him. He generally lived off of what was provided for military personnel.
"I will not be having wine with you, madman," Golbez said in a level
tone.
Behind the calm voice was a perfectly noticeable level of distaste and
menace.
"I am otherwise occupied at this festival."
The sorcerer's eyes narrowed. "What is your business in Baron?" he
tried. If
the fool didn't cease laughing, Golbez decided he'd go back to the
company of
the others and possibly find Mana.

Carasha sighed. Her little act with Eric didn't look like it would
work, since Ken had ran off for some strange reason. Oh well. She
left the dazed and confused Eric, and glanced over at Mana, noticing
the girl looked pale and pained. Right then Ryuu spilled a drink on
her, offering to buy her another robe. Although the ninja couldn't
put her finger on it, something didn't add up about the situation.
Edward followed the group silently, trying to figure out the
strange prophet. He kept glancing through the crowd to see if he
could sight the fortune teller, but to no avail. He really only
spoke to thank Ryuu for the writing materials.
But he soon caught a glance of Golbez, speaking with some strange
man. All Edward could tell was that Golbez wasn't looking too happy,
while the other man was quite entertained, laughing like there was
no tomorrow.
Well, the Damcyan King might not be too fond of Golbez, but he was
curious about this fellow that bothered him. "Golbez, who's your..
amused friend?" he asked, coming over.

He brought his attention back to the two men in front of him. "Dear

Ryuu came back with a nice sea green yukata for Mana. He knew about
the wounds but didn't know how about to help Mana with it. Sure he
could cross dress and help her but he doubted it would work since
many people knew who he was here. He decided to risk something.
"Chrissa, Mana needs help with her new robe. Could you assist her in
a change tent?" he asked while also handing Chrissa a first aid kit.
"Ryuu! No...she can't..." Mana began.
Ryuu gave Mana a stern look and the girl didn't say anything more as
she and her friend went into a tent.
"Chrissa, I'm sorry about this..." Mana began as she took off her
robe. "But what ever you do, don't tell Golbez about this please."
Chrissa would soon see why Mana wanted to keep everything quite.
Mana's white undershirt was now all red, soaked in her blood and on
her body were clean, sharp cuts - one for every hit that came into
contact with Golbez's robe, placed where the weapon would've hit.

Chrissa's hands flew to her mouth as Mana's bloody undershirt was
revealed. "Mana? How--?" she couldn't find the words she wanted to
ask. She could only stare for a moment or two, taking a moment to
put two and two together. "... Golbez's robe.. that's how it works..
You're taking all the hits for him."
A slight, worried smile came to her face. "Mana, why couldn't you
tell me?" she shook her head. "You're just trying to protect
everyone except yourself, aren't you?" She came over, opening the
kit and taking some bandages out, and started attending to the
abundant cuts. ".. Mana, is there anything between you and Golbez?
I've been noticing you two have been a lot closer lately.."
She soon finished up. It was difficult not to give into the urge to
use her magic, like she normally would, except it only seemed to
have the opposite effect on Mana. She then handed Mana the
robe. "... I guess you didn't tell me, because I would normally
freak out and demand you to think about yourself more.. But I guess
that's not going to work, is it? Mana... just watch yourself. When
you leave, I'm not going to be able to push you into taking care of
yourself. This is my last night to do so. So just let me know if you
need more help... okay?"
----------------------
Edward chuckled slightly at this man. "Yes, we still shake hands."
he said, reaching out and giving Windel's hand a shake. "I'm King
Edward of Damcyan. Forgive Golbez, he's not very.... social." he
quickly explained.
He couldn't imagine hardly going a week without contact with
others, much less years. Course, that might have to do with being of
royal blood so as he's always being watched over. So he had to give
credit to Windel.
".. Food, drink, clothes, and affection. You came for the
neccessities of life I see." Edward nodded. "But.. What is your
occupation?"

smile. "There is nothing going on between Golbez and I. Nothing at
all. I just want to protect him. He is the one keeping Rosa safe and
as long as Golbez is safe, Rosa will be too. I am also protecting
him because he is Cecil's brother and even if I am a little angry
with Cecil for that dragoon bounty, Cecil was my friend so it makes
Golbez a friend now too. He deserves a fair chance at life and not
many people are willing to let him have that chance."
Mana put on the new robe. "Thank you for your help. Don't worry,
I'll be all right. I knew what I was getting into. You'll see, in
the end, it'll all be okay," she said while packing up her old robe
to be sent back to her room back in Baron Castle. "Do you have
anything that should be sent back to the Castle? I am sure you don't
want to lug that cute yet giant toy with you all night. Some
soldiers who just started their shift can take it and other things
back for us."
Mana walked out of the tent and Ryuu smiled as he saw her. "Hey!
Everything all better now?"
Mana nodded before talking to a soldier that was about to start his
shift.
Ryuu pulled Chrissa aside again. "Please don't let Golbez find out.
He'll get all frowny faced - more so then he normally is and that
won't be fun. Mana wanted Golbez to have fun tonight so please..."
There was a loud cheer not to far off. "Fangirls...looks like it is
starting," said Ryuu with a nod and smile. "Let's go get everyone!"
Mana nodded and headed towards Golbez and the people around
him. "Hello sir. I hope you are enjoying this fine evening," she
said to Winbel before turning to Golbez. "There is a concert going
on right now. Let's go to it!" she said with a big smile.
****
Ken was playing his guitar and singing at the center of the
commotion. The people were happily dancing. Mana and the group came
up to the scene from the south of the dance area, walking over a
small hill and looked down. Garret was there backing Ken up playing
the piano.
"That's where Garret went!" exclaimed Mana.
Ken somehow noticed the group and looked directly at them.
Ryuu nodded approvingly. "Ken's pretty good at singing isn't he?"
Ken looked directly at Mana when he started singing the last bit of
the song.
"Don't tell me, it's not worth trying for,
I can't help it, there's nothing I want more
I would fight for you,
I would lie for you,
Walk the wire for you..."
Mana felt a strange pain in her chest. "No...stop..." she whispered
knowing full well he couldn't hear her. "I don't want
that...don't...." But it seemed Ken already knew what she was
thinking and continued on.
"Yes, I'd DIE for you! You know it's true, everything I do, I do it
for you..."
Mana took a step backwards and bumped into Golbez. Her body flinched
at the contact since the cuts on her body were still mending.
Ken changed instruments and Garret did the same, this time he was
playing the drums and Ken a flute. The second song was much more
energetic.
Ryuu grabbed Chrissa's hand and pulled her into the crowd. "Come on!
Let's dance! It'll be fun!"
"Here I am, with open arms waiting for you to come to me," Ken
began, "And you're here with all your charm, I'll whisper into your
ear and see if you'll see..."
"Funny how dreams come true, like a fool I'm into you! The day we
met I lost my sanity! Funny how I feel for you. You washed away my
insecurity!" Ryuu sang towards him from the middle of the crowd
while skipping towards the stage still holding Chrissa's hand. The
crowd parted for them and some fangirls were jealous. Who was this
girl the main singer was hanging out with?
Ken smiled and continued to sing and everytime it was time for the
chorus to be sung, Ryuu sang it but towards Chrissa.
"I've been keeping secrets from you. You're important to me so I'll
protect you. You're near me in my dreams as I paint my future..."
Mana giggled. Ryuu was certainly energetic and it seemed to her that
he had taken a liking to Chrissa that would match his fanboy
attitude towards Edward. But somewhere in the back of her mind, Mana
thought that every song that Ryuu and Ken have ever played had a
deeper, hidden meaning. If only she could understand and find out
what...

*** Before the big... dancing... thingy... ***
Winbel shook the king's hand gratefully. His arm was getting tired
after holding it out so long without a good shaking. "Ah, then I am
not totally out of the loop."
"My occupation? why... I don't believe I've ever had one of those...
Is it like a cookie? I like cookies. They're round, and they go well
with milk." Winbel knew what the King meant by occupation. He just
didn't wish to tell someone of such a high rank that he was a theif,
and a damn good one at that.
"But anyway, that's not important. What is important is where can I
get some new clothes? The ones I have now are rather..." Winbel
gestured at his ragged pair of once-were-pants-but-not-
anymore's. "Need I say anyth..."
Just then, an absolutly stunning young lady approached the group. She
spoke something to Golbez, and she might have said something to
winbel as well. He didn't hear her, he was lost in her utter beauty.
The group started walking away, but winbel was still lost in the
complexity behind those eyes. Soon, the entire group was out of site,
and winbel awoke from his spell. 'this will not do. I need clothing,
and fast!'
Winbel hurried over to the nearest shop he could find, grabbing his
purses from behind his rock on the way...
*** During the big dancy type thing ***
Winbel wandered into the giant group of people, all singing and
dancing. He was much more presentable this time. He had a fresh pair
of green hose, and a very clean and crisp white tunic. His white hair
was combed down very neatly, and shined from being freshly washed. He
hardly recognized himself in the mirror.
As he entered the crowd, he kept a sharp lookout for the girl he had
seen earlier... What was her name? Why wasn't he paying attention!?
There! she's with... ugh... golbez... That man didn't like winbel. It
was obvious. And Winbel did not want to confront him again, as it
would take some serious talking to avoid a fight with him. Winbel
decided he'd hang around near her, in case she left his side.
He walked up next to his new friend, King edward, and patted his
shoulder. "Say, good man. Who is that girl standing next to Golbez?"

Chrissa glanced after Mana after leaving the tent. She was still
worried about her, but at least now she could prevent as much damage
as possible.
~~Ryuu pulled Chrissa aside again. "Please don't let Golbez find
out. He'll get all frowny faced - more so then he normally is and
that won't be fun. Mana wanted Golbez to have fun tonight so
please..."~~
Chrissa paused, but then agreed. "I'll kept silent." she smiled.
That's when the cheer was heard. Appearently another concert was
starting. Chrissa smiled and followed, with Eric and Carasha
joining, since for they didn't want to be left behind.
---
Edward couldn't help but chuckle at the man's idea of a occupation.
While he didn't want to be rude, he wondered how the man could have
mistakened it for food.
As Windel was asking where to buy food, Mana came up, asking Golbez
to come to the concert. Edward, a definite music fan, certainly
didn't wish to miss it either, so he quickly turned back to
Windel. "I believe that stand over there has some fine clothes for
sale. Enjoy the festival!" he quickly said, making his way to the
concert. Appearently Windel hadn't heard him, dazed by something.
---
"Wow, I didn't know Ken could sing!" Chrissa called. Carasha just
huffed a little, sitting off and hugging onto her tiger.
"Is she a little more moody then usual?" Eric asked. Chrissa
shrugged, never being able to figure out the ninja. "And when was
Garret a musician?"
"Hey, did you think he ate as a hobby?" Chrissa chuckled slightly.
Soon the first song ended, and the second one started up. Suddenly
Ryuu grabbed onto her hand, pulling her into the dance crowd. Her
cheeks flushed instantly, turning even redder when Ryuu started
singing the song towards her. But she was having fun, and could't
help but laugh while dancing, even with the looks she was getting
from the other girls.
From the side, Eric was looking over the crowd at the two. "What's
he doing with my sister?" he asked, as if unawares of the interest
between the two of them.
"It looks like they're dancing." Edward replied, coming over to
them. "I think she likes him."
"Oi.." Eric shook his head.
Edward would have commented more, except someone came up and patted
his shoulder.
~~"Say, good man. Who is that girl standing next to Golbez?"~~
The Damcyan king had to take a a second look at the man. "..
Windel?" he asked, almost gaping. "Well, you've certainly found
something more flattering. I almost didn't recognize you!" Edward
laughed. "Oh, the girl with Golbez? That would be Mana Highwind. She
was formerly the head of the dragoons here, but appearently she'll
be leaving soon. So even though offically it isn't, this can be
considered a goodbye party instead of a lantern festival." he
replied. Edward certianly hoped Windel.
"Hey, who's that?" Eric asked.
"Oh, Eric, meet Windel, he's new to the town. Windel, this is Eric
Winters, a traveling warrior questing to become a Paladin." Edward
introduced them.
"Nice to meet you!" Eric shook the man's hand. "Oh, and that over
there is Carasha." he pointed to the ninja girl on the bench. She
didn't even glance in their direction.
"Almost as bad as Golbez." Edward whispered.

Windel laughed openly at Edwards inability to recognize him. He
wondered if Golbez would be so willing to easily dislike him now that
he was dressed so finely.
"That would be Mana Highwind. She was formerl the head of the
dragoons here, but apparently she'll be leaving soon."
Mana... Such a great name. Windel had no clue what a dragoon was, but
he suddenly gained a large respect for them all. He had to find out
where she was leaving to. He had to see more of her. He had to talk
to her. The lady just walked by, but she had such a history flowing
around her aura that captured Wibels eye immediatly. The way she
stood there next to Golbez, the angry fellow, was very regal and
enjoyable.
The well dressed vagabond shook Eric's hand with glee. "You know,
handshaking has always been one of my favorite pastimes." Windel
spoke with the intention of receiving funny looks. It was a private
joke to himself.
Winbel glannced over at Carasha. "Almost as bad as Golbez" Edward
whispered.
Winbel gave her a serious lookdown. "She looks dangerous. But she's
cute." He tried to catch her eye for a moment, to give her a wink,
but she never looked in his direction. Winbel shrugged and turned to
eric.
"It was wonderful meeting you sirs, but I beleive I have just found
myself a mission to complete." He bowed to both Eric and Edward, then
danced his way over to Mana and Golbez.
He sidled up next to golbez, and said, loud enough for Mana to
hear, "Nice party. The singing is great."

Mana looked around and found someone standing next to her and Golbez.
She smiled towards them. "Yes, it is a wonderful party. Ryuu and Ken
are wonderful performers. I can see why they have so many fans. Oh!"
Mana took Winbel's hand and shook it. "It's a pleasure to meet
you...."
Mana looked into the man's eyes for a moment while still shaking his
hand. "...again," she finished with a smile. "I am glad you found
something nice to buy at this festival. You look quite handsome in
that outfit. You were the one talking to Golbez before aren't you?
Sorry for not introducing myself before. I am Mana. May I have your
name sir?"
****
Golbez noticed that Mana looked slightly more pale than before and why
was she wearing a different robe? Then she flinched when she bumped
into him as if her body hurt. Something didn't add up...
Then this Winbel vagabond came up to them. Golbez still recognized him
even though the riff-raff made himself more presentable. It didn't
matter to Golbez really what people wore, it was how they carried
themselves and Golbez still thought of Winbel as a lunatic.
****
During an interlude, Ken came running up to Mana and handed her what
looked like a candy. "Try it," he said. "It was made specially for
you..." He looked at Mana with an intense gaze and then whispered
something in her ear. 'Tasty painkiller - it'll last for a couple of
hours. Long enough to enjoy the rest of the festival.'
Mana quickly ate the candy. "Mmm strawberry!"
Ken smiled and backed away a bit. "Are you going to let Ryuu hog the
spotlight? Go and dance!" he said before running back towards the
stage to play another song.
****
Ryuu was just having a blast dancing with Chrissa. He noticed Carasha
every now and then. "What's her deal? Why isn't she having fun like
everyone else?" Ryuu say Rydia cheerfully dragging Edge to the dance
floor. "See? Even Edge is going to have some fun!"

Chrissa glanced over at Carasha when Ryuu mentioned her gloomy
nature. "Maybe she doesn't want to dance?" she wondered out loud.
But no, that couldn't be it, since she certainly didn't look happy
sitting to the side. But it wasn't as if no one was asking, there
were a couple of young gentlemen over asking, but Carasha refused
them... A little more politely then usual. "You know, she was
hanging with Ken earlier, maybe there was a spark, and now Ken is
hanging out with Mana?" Chrissa shrugged. "Or maybe she just doesn't
want to dance with someone she doesn't know, I'll bet." she said,
turning away for a moment to motion to Edward and Eric.
"That Windel seems pretty interested in Mana, don't you think?"
Eric was asking Edward.
"Quite.. Hope its just a crush, Mana already has her share of
admirers I believe. I mean, there's Garret, if I remember rightly,
who is engaged to her, then theres Golbez, and maybe even Ken now."
Edward answered.
"Man, that's gotta be tough having all those guys around." Eric
chuckled. He looked back towards the dancing, noticing Chrissa
waving them over. "Hey, highness, Chrissa wants us."
"Just call me Edward." the bard shook his head, following the
warrior over.
"Hey guys, you two aren't hooked up, right?" Chrissa asked.
".. Well, you don't have to brag about it." Eric rolled his eyes.
"No, I mean, why don't one of you two go dance with Carasha? She
doesn't look too happy over there, and I don't think she'll dance
with strangers, so maybe one of you two should." the Damcyan captain
suggested.
Edward glanced over a moment, then sighed. "Well, this is a
festival, she should be having a better time. Eric, did you want to
dance with her?"
"I don't know how to dance." Eric started. The king was silent for
a moment, then nodded.
"That may work to get her to agree." he suddenly said, starting to
pull Eric with him.
They came over to where Carasha was at the bench, still not looking
too thrilled. "Carasha, I was wondering if you would like to dance?"
Edward asked, offering his hand out.
Carasha glanced from his hand to Edward's face. "... You couldn't
find someone else?"
"Well, you see Carasha.." the bard motioned to Eric. "He doesn't
know how to dance. And while I'm willing to help him, I'm afraid it
would give the wrong idea to some of the people. I figured you know
something about dancing, so could you possibly help out? We'll show
him how to do the steps, and then he'll try them."
Carasha seemed to think about this for a few moments, glancing
between Edward, Eric, and the crowd. "Fine." she got up, handing her
tiger to Eric.
Edward led Carasha out to the crowd, Eric coming behind them. "Now,
to start with slow dancing, first you take the one of the lady's
hands, while your other hand goes by her side. Now, how close you
are to your partner can vary depending on how well they know each
other, as you can see." the king commented, noticing Carasha kept
herself very much away. "But, they can't be too far, or you'll have
difficulty dancing." he said, pulling her in slightly closer, but
not too much for the risk of Carasha getting violent. "Now, slow
dancing doesn't have to be very complex. A lot of it is just two-
stepping, swaying from side to side. But some people prefer to have
patterns, like two lefts and a right... It all depends on the
leader. Just nothing too sudden that your partner isn't aware of."
he continued, dancing a bit with Carasha while describing. "For
glamour and and a change of pace, twirls can also be put in." he
said, twirling Carasha. "And now.. It's your turn Eric. Luckily, it
looks like Carasha's experienced at this."
"Oh, alright." Eric said, taking up Carasha's hand. "Let's give
this a try."
"I think she's still trying to look mean, but it must be hard while
dancing with two guys." Chrissa chuckled over to Ryuu. ".. Ryuu..
How long are you going to be here in Baron?" she suddenly asked.
".. I gotta admit, you do look pretty tonight." Eric put in, trying
not to concentrate too hard on where his feet should go.
"Are you just saying that?" she asked.
"No, I mean it. That Windel guy mentioned it too, but you weren't
paying attention. .. Is something on your mind?" Eric asked.
"Nothing." Carasha said quickly, glancing off.
Eric shook his head. "It's obviously not 'nothing'. What is it? Is
it a guy? Homesick? Tired? Disappointed by the wimps that were
asking you to dance? Course, guess I'm not much better."
Carasha was silent for a moment, then turned her attention back to
Eric. "Can you keep a secret?"
"Sure!" Eric grinned.
".. I don't find it easy to be friendly around people..."
Eric stared a moment. ".. Carasha, if that's your secret, I hate to
say but I think its a little noticable."
"No, I mean.. I'm a ninja, I'm suppose to be strong, and clear-
headed at all times. I hate not knowing what's going on, or having
no control of what I'm thinking."
"... So, you're afraid that being close to others, you won't be
able to control your emotions and dictate logic." Edward nodded.
"Hey, this was a private conversation!!" Carasha seethed.
"Sorry, I was standing here the whole time. I'm the teacher,
remember?" he chuckled slightly. "But don't worry. I won't tell."
"Me neither." Eric chimed.
"... Thanks." the ninja smiled slightly.
"Now, lets practice the Tango." Edward cut in.

"ahh-hahha" Winbel gasped at the touch of Mana's hand on his. He
gently carresed her hand as he shook it. "My.. my n-na-name..." He
had trouble speaking. He was quickly becoming lost in her eyes again.
He coughed, shook his head, cleared his mind, and tried again. "I'm
sorry, My name is..."
Oops. He looked in her eyes again. The words just couldn't flow...
After a few moments, he caught himself and finally shouted, quite
awkwardly "Winbel! My name is Winbel! Ha ha!"
Finally Winbel had his mind back. He laughed at himself, to avoid the
embarrasment, and bowed deeply to Mana. "Dear lady, Please excuse me,
but my throat is of a sudden very parched." He looked at golbez once
more. "Do you still refuse my offer to a cup of wine?"
(ooc: I may be gone for the next 4-5 days. So, as the RP stands,
Winbel drinks his wine and watches Mana adoringly from a distance. If
the group goes anywhere, He walks around with Edward, making friendly
nonsenseical coversation. Anyone feel free to take control of
him 'til I'm back.)

Rosa was surprised when she glanced towards the man who was staring
at her oddly.
'He's walking over here...why?'
She looked down and tried to look surprised when he addressed her.
<"How are you this evening, m'lady. The events sure have taken a
turn
in an odd direction I would imagine.">
<"How do you do, dear lady? My names Winbel.">
Rosa was surprised when another man approached her table and
addressed her. She wasn't sure how she should react, but she was a
kind, trusting woman, so she graced him with a bright smile.
"It's a pleasure to make your acquitance Winbel. I am doing very
well."
She wasn't sure why he was holding his hand out in greeting. She
stared at it blankly and blinked a couple of times. (ooc: I am just
assuming that Rosa does not usually shake people's hands...if this is
what you meant in the first place :oP)
<"Sir, the Lady is very tired. You may address her tomorrow if you
so
desire. On your way please.">
Rosa was a bit annoyed with the stranger's manner of taking charge of
the situation. She felt bad for the poor looking gentleman, but
hopefully he wasn't offended.
"Sorry," she called back as she was dragged away.
She slowly disengaged her arm.
"I would appreciate it if you wouldn't just take control of a
situation like that. I can handle myself."
"I needed to speak with you anyway, excuse me if my actions were out
of line, I only was thinking in your interest I suppose.""
Rosa shrugged.
"I guess I can excuse your actions."
<"Actually this is the first time I have been able to speak to you
since our first encounter. I have wished to address you since our
meeting in the castle. I have already given you the letter from our
King in Fabul, and we already pledged our loyalty to you and your
kingdom. I just wanted to speak to you in private. We want to help,
but I am not really sure what is going on anymore. Our leave of
absence has left us in the dark about what is going on. Is there
anything you can tell me, about anything... about the prophet
perhaps.">
"I knew you looked familiar!"
Rosa clapped her hands in delight as she took a seat at a seculded
table.
"What is your name young man? I can't seem to remember. So much has
distracted me as of late..."

"Ken and Mana...together?" Ryuu let out a nervous laugh. "Ha
ha....poposterous....!"
The red head watched as Eric and Edward went to Carasha to get her
to dance. He let out a relieved sigh.
Ken watched with a slight smirk as Edward was teaching Carasha how
to tango. 'How ironic indeed," he thought.
"Chrissa...um do you think that Golbez likes Mana? I mean doesn't he
know she is engaged to Garret?" asked Ryuu.
****
Mana looked curiously at Winbel. He seemed really strange to her and
something was really off about him - but not in a bad way. Mana
shrugged it off.
Golbez just gave Winbel another intense death glare and it seemed
that the glare's intensity was more intense then before. He watched
as Winbel went off to take a drink.
Suddenly, a group of girls, the same fangirls that Mana saved Golbez
from before showed up and knocked Mana aside while each of them were
trying to get Golbez to dance with them. They seemed a little drunk
and that would explain their daring.
'I wonder if they know who he is and if they did, I doubt they would
care," thought Mana with an amused smile while trying to get back to
Golbez but not succeeding.
The latest song ended and Ken walked up to Mana and escorted her
away from Golbez and the drunk fangirls.
"B-But...Golbez..." Mana began.
"You wanted Golbez to socialize right? Leave him with the fangirls,"
said Ken as they approached the middle of the dance floor.
"Wait, if you and Ryuu are dancing, who is going to do the singing?"
Ken smiled. "It's his gift to you..."
"What? Who?"
The girl's question would soon be answered as the next song was
started.
"Moon so bright, night so fine
Keep your heart here with mine
Life's a dream, we are dreaming..."
"Garret!" Mana said in a surprise.
Ken smiled as he held her close as they danced. "He's been working
on his voice for quite sometime. He said he wanted to do something
special for you."
Mana rested her head on Ken's chest as they danced and every now and
then looked at Garret while he was singing. He really did have a
nice voice.
"Race the moon, catch the wind..."
"What a wonderful thing for Garret to do," said Mana with a smile.
When it came time for the chorus, Ken and Ryuu added their voices to
Garret's. All three of their voices blended together in an almost
hypnotic melody.
"I want to spend my lifetime loving you.
If that is all in life I ever do
I need nothing else to see me through..."
Mana's and Garret's eyes meet when he sang the chorus and she knew
her faith in Garret was justified. She would trust him even if no
one else would. She would trust him no matter what...
