<Rosa clapped her hands in delight as she took a seat at a seculded
table.

"What is your name young man? I can't seem to remember. So much has
distracted me as of late...">

"Sorry m'lady. I do not mean to bombard you with Questions. My name
is Runic William Margueriff." Runic was a bit nervous, but still he
remained casual. "Again, I appologize for my actions. I was not
trying to imply that you are not capable of taking care of
yourself." A waiter came over to the table to help them. Runic
ordered some wine for the two of them. "Forgive, for I do not
remember the last time we spoke. So much has happened since we first
met. I do not wish to speak of recent events & such. I am sure you
have had enough to think about yourself, being the Queen of
a 'Kingless' Kingdom. We may talk casualy if you may, I would like
to know more of the beautiful lady which whom sits before me."

~~~~~~~~~
Alex finished his seventh drink. It seems the ale didn't faze him
tonight. A dark aura seemed to loom over Alex the longer he was in
Baron. Something about him was changing. He disregaurded it when
Runic had first mentioned something about him, but even he started to
notice it lately. At one time he thought he was hearing what sounded
like faint voices in his head. Again, he shrugged and didn't think
anything of it. He got dizzy as he stood up, grasping the table to
avoid falling. Maybe the ale effected him more than he originaly
thought. He looked around to see the familiar faces of the others,
happily dancing. The only ones not up were Runic and the Queen, who
were talking at a table farthest away from the loud group. Alex just
let them be. He smiled for a moment, laughing at how serious he
looked while talking to her, while just moments ago he was fretting
about just speaking with her. He understood the politics of getting
involved with Royalty, yet he continued to persue. Alex picked up
his glass and took the last drink of ale, then left to go on a walk
and get some fresh air... maybe even ponder a little.
*ooc: turns out my planned absence didn't pan out._shrugs_ oh well.
Now lets get to some serious motha bleepin posting!!*
The glare coming from golbez was intense indeed. Winbel smiled at the
man, and patted his cheek. "Joy is within reach." He said before
bouncing off to get some wine.
He sat at a table and pulled a waiter over, ordering two bottles of
the finest wine available. He quickly theived some coins from the
waiter's pocket, and gave them to him as payment. "yes sir, right
away sir!" the waiter hurried off to get Winbel's drink of choice.
Winbel then looked back at the crowd. He looked for Mana. Something
about her eyes... He was positivly intruiged. He watched as another
fellow, one he hadn't met yet, took her away and started dancing with
her. He watched, again entranced by her sight... Minutes seemed to go
on forever. He imagined himself as that man dancing with her, and he
felt a new kind of joy.
"Your wine, sir!" yelled the waiter for the third time, breaking
Winbel out of his trance.
Winbel started at the sudden end of his fantasy. "Oh yes. Thank you."
Winbel gave the waiter another of his coins. "Be a good lad, and find
me some company. There will be compensation, of course."
"Uh.. Y-yes sir." The waiter was definitly not used to doing that
sort of thing. He looked around the area for people who might want to
sit and talk with the man. In his wanderings he came across Rosa and
Runic.
"Excuse me, lady, sir. I apologize for the interuption, but that man
over there," the waiter pointed at Winbel, "Seeks company. Would you
mind if maybe he joined you?"
Winbel laughed at the confused efforts of the waiter, then he turned
back to watch the crowd. He popped the top off one bottle of wine and
drank it all in one gulp. He put the other one away in a small bag,
and tied it to his waist. 'This will be for a special occasion' he
thought, as he once again lost himself in Mana.
"Thank you sir for the jest," Runic said politely, "But there is
something I wish to discuse with the lady. Could you tell the man to
perhaps give us a few minutes and we will come seek him when we are
finished." Runic tossed the waiter a coin for his gratitude.
"I believe the shady fellow I pulled you from a little bit ago is
that very same gentleman who invited us to converse," Runic said
pointing as the waiter went back to Winbel's table, "No matter, now
you were saying...?"
<My name is Runic William Margueriff.">
Rosa smiled pleasantly. "Nice to meet you. I assume you know my name.
Everyone seems to know who I am."
<"Again, I appologize for my actions. I was not trying to imply that
you are not capable of taking care of yourself.">
"I know. I have just been under a lot of pressure. I just want some
alone time, a little bit of independence for a queen..."
She watched as Runic ordered some wine, and noticed the man that had
talked with them earlier was sitting by himself drinking wine.
'All by himself...too bad...although he seems distracted by
someone...'
She noticed Mana dancing.
'Ahhh...distracted by a beautiful woman dancing...'
<"Forgive, for I do not remember the last time we spoke. So much has
Rosa tried not to turn cold, but the mention of her Kingless Kingdom
still pierced the wound in her heart. She didn't respond right away,
which gave time for a waiter to approach their table.
<"Excuse me, lady, sir. I apologize for the interuption, but that man
over there," the waiter pointed at Winbel, "Seeks company. Would you
mind if maybe he joined you?">
Rosa was very happy for the interupption since she had no idea what
to say to Runic. Unfortunately, Runic was taking matters into his own
hands and was asking that the man join their table later.
"Wait!"
Rosa grabbed the waiter before he could walk off.
"Please tell the gentleman we would be delighted for a little bit of
his time. After all, the more the merrier..."
Rosa laughed a nervous giggle as she sent the young man off to
Winbel's table. Rosa turned back to Runic with an apology in her eye.
"I'm sorry. He just seems so lonely by himself. There will be plenty
of time to talk privately in the near future. Trust me."
She also didn't want to admit that she didn't want to be alone with
Runic for some strange reason. She felt uncomfortable. He was young
and handsome, and she couldn't help noticing these details and others.
'Right now I don't need anyone except my friends. I don't even know
who this person is anyways. I would feel more comfortable with more
people at our table.'
~Serena~
ooc: Sorry that I am making it hard for Runic to have his alone time
with Rosa. I am a lil' devil, I know. *wink wink* :oP
"...ady said you could join them!" the waiter had to shake Winbel out
of his drunken trance. Winbel grabbed the waiter by his shirt collar
and pulled him close to his ear.
"say that again, please?" Winbel said as he reached behind the waiter
to another man, to grab some money.
The waiter sighed. "I said, at that table, the lady said you could
join them." He pointed towards Rosa.
"Ah, haha. Thank you, sir. Here, don't spend it all in one place."
Winbel gave him a few coins and then stood up. He then very quickly
sat down again. "That was some very fine wine, sir!" he laughed. He
got up again, slower, and tried to regain his composure. He coughed,
grabbed a tin, gave his reflection a quick glace, fixed his hair a
little, and started walking towards Rosa and runic.
About halfway to his destination, he suddenly grabbed a rather plain
looking woman, pulled her close, and whispered "You are by far the
most beautiful woman I have ever seen." He then twirled her around,
and danced with her for a few moments. She was blushing as her nearby
friends giggled at the strange encounter. Winbel dipped her as a
finaly, and kissed her a great kiss. The nearby girlfriends gasped
and pined for a kiss themselves, but winbel simply returned the girl
to her seat, and continued on to the table with Rosa and Runic.
By then, winbel felt the effect of his little drunken trance fading.
He felt more like himself again. He smiled openly at the two as he
arrived at the table. "Why hello, again! What coincedence that the
waiter found you two!" Winbel looked at Rosa, and then at runic, and
then back to Rosa. He pulled up a chair and sat very close to Rosa.
Before Runic could protest, he leaned in close to Rosa, and whispered
seductivly in her ear. "I have a feeling he doesn't like me." He then
gave her a small kiss on the cheek, and gave a wink to Runic.
"How about some more wine?"
*ooc: I wonder if something like that would be possible to do... I
should try it in the food court tomorrow, see what kind of responce I
ooc: Pretty comical post. I liked it. Let me know if you ever try it
and if it works or not. ;o)
bic: Rosa was having second doubts about inviting the man that was
introduced to her as Winbel over to their table. He appeared quite
intoxicated, and she was afraid he might hurt himself just trying to
make it over to their table. On the other hand, she thought it quite
funny how the ladies swooned over him. She felt herself smiling
involuntarily.
'At least I am getting a good laugh out of this. Heaven knows I
haven't found reason to laugh in a long time.'
<"Why hello, again! What coincedence that the waiter found you two!">
Rosa smiled.
"Hello to you as well. Please have a..."
Rosa didn't get to finish her thought because Winbel pulled up a
chair and sat very close to her.
"Uh..."
She felt herself blushing.
<"I have a feeling he doesn't like me.">
Rosa felt the kiss on her cheek and blushed even more.
"You, kind sir, are indeed a ladies' man it would appear."
Rosa didn't take the kiss as anything serious.
'What a flirt... Still, at least it lighten's the mood of the table.
This Runic fellow seems to be a very serious type...kinda like
Ce...No! Don't think about him anymore!'
<"How about some more wine?">
"More wine would be delightful!"
'Anything to keep my mind off of other things...'
Mana saw Rosa chatting with Runic and Winbel. She smiled. Maybe Rosa
could find some happiness, although something about Runic made Mana
very cautious. Everytime Runic talked to Rosa or tried to, she felt
very defensive - almost the same way Kain got when a guy would come
up to her. Mana blinked at the revelation. Did Runic like Rosa in
*that* way?
"Did you enjoy the festival?" Ken asked her, snapping the girl out
of her current train of thought.
"Oh yes! I especially liked how you played the flute during the
musical interlude of the song. Also how you and Ryuu performed the
song, very ingenious. I think Chrissa will say the same thing."
Ken chuckled.
"And thank you for getting Garret involved. I haven't heard him play
any instument for the longest time. I missed how he would play the
piano in Highwind Manor..."
Ken nodded.
Ryuu didn't know how to answer Chrissa's question on how long he was
staying in Baron. How long was he going to stay? The only reason he
came was to follow and watch out for Ken. The next thing he knew, he
was swept up in the events. And....
"Hey Edge," Ryuu grabbed his "cootie-catcher" from his pocket and
used it like a puppet. "You were supposed to kiss Rydia, not the
other way around. Lavish more attention to such a fine lady! That
was the fortune!"
As the song came to an end, Ken bowed to Mana and walked towards
Golbez through the fangirls. He stood beside Golbez but didn't look
at him. The faced opposite directions. "At the rate you are going,"
Ken began so only Golbez could hear, "you're going to lose." Ken
then walked to Rosa's table.
"Good evening. I hope you all are enjoying the festival. The last
dance is going to start in a couple of minutes. It would be
wonderful if the Queen of Baron and her chosen partner would grace
the dance floor with their presence." Ken bowed and then walked to
Carasha, Eric and Edward. "You and the King of Damcyan make a nice
couple," Ken said with a smirk. "Will you two be dancing in the last
dance of the festival? It is sure to be an interesting event."
Garret jumped off the stage and ran towards Mana. "So how did I do?"
he asked rather excitedly.
"An excellence that can't be matched," Mana said with a
smile. "Thank you. It was a wonderful gift."
"Nothing is good enough for the one I love the most. Let's dance the
final dance and show everyone how real partners are to dance!"
Mana smiled.
****
"Do you have it?"
"Yes. Some of the floorplan has changed but the castle is still easy
to navigate."
"Those fools shall suffer, I swear by any god they worship!"
"This country will burn down."
"Yes, and we'll make sure of it."
"So who shall we target first?"
Winbel smiled at Rosa. "I may appear to be a ladies man, but
appearances can be confusing..." he winked again at runic, and
manuvered his foot under the table to slide along runic's legs.
Winbel then grabbed a waiter and ordered more wine. He settled into
his seat and wrapped his arm around rosa's shoulders. "So just who do
I have the pleasure of drinking with this evening?"
Before he could receive an answer, another man came up and asked Rosa
to choose a partner to dance with. "Damn, this place is just choc
full of interuptions, isn't it??" Winbel said. "So, who would you
like to dance with?" he asked as he absently played with Rosa's hair.
*ooc: I tried it... I got slapped 4 times... I think it helps if a)
the girl is drunk and b) the world in which you do it is fictional.
<"You, kind sir, are indeed a ladies' man it would appear.">
<Rosa didn't take the kiss as anything serious.>
Runic was suprised the Queen was so calm about it, When before she
seemed angered by his actions, she seems quite comfortible around
Winbel. Runic strugled to understand the reasoning behind it. He
just snickered for the moment.
'This guy's a real peice of work,' he thought to himself, 'I never
will understand some people I guess...'
<"How about some more wine?">
<"More wine would be delightful!">
"And I will have a dark ale," Runic said to the waiter. '...or two or
three...' he thought.
<"I may appear to be a ladies man, but
Runic glared and rolled his eyes at the man proceeding to play
footsie with him. The man, obviously, was an alcoholic Runic thought
to himself. Runic started to wonder where Alex had gone. Last time
he seen him he left to go on a walk, shortly after hearing the voices
again. Runic got lost in a trance for a moment...
<"So, who would you
like to dance with?" he asked as he absently played with Rosa's hair.>
Runic had not seen the other gentleman (ken) come to the table.
"A couple? Nonono Ken, you have the wrong idea." Edward chuckled
nervously. "I was just having her help me teach Eric how to dance."
"Quite. So who's your partner? Or are you performing again?"
Carasha crossed her arms.
Edward glanced over, where he noticed Rosa and Runic were with the
man he met earlier. The way Winbel was acting around them made the
Damcyan King wonder if the man was drunk (which appearently he was),
so he started wandering towards that direction.
"Hey, where're you going?" Eric asked.
"I'm going to see if Rosa needs any help." he said, realizing the
queen must be pretty uncomfortable with the attention Winbel was
showing.
Eric hesistated a moment, then realized Carasha was busy talking to
Ken, so he'll need a new partner. He quickly rushed up to where
Golbez was surrounded by girls, wondering why there were so
many. "Excuse me..." Eric tapped a redhead on the shoulder. "At this
rate, I don't think Golbez will be able to dance with all of you..
But I'm avalible if you'd like to." he smiled.
Chrissa shook her head as Ryuu bounced off to bother Edge again,
without answering her question. "Never serious." she reminded
herself. "Ryuu, its not like he's never kissed his wife before." she
laughed. "Well, could you tell me how long you've been performing
then?" she was trying to start a light conversation.
Edward soon approached the table that the others were at. "And how
are you gentle folk doing?" he asked. Up close, he certainly could
tell Winbel was intoxicated. ".. I hear they're getting ready for
the final dance. Have you chosen a partner, Rosa?"
"Too bad," replied Ken to Edward. "You two make a cute couple." Ken
couldn't help but chuckle as Carasha crossed her arms. 'Always so
defensive...cute...' He scratched the back of his head
casually. "Actually, since the final dance is going to start soon I
am looking for a good dance partner. I need to make a good final
impression you know."
Ryuu blinked at Chrissa's comments. "True, but Rydia is so cute. If
I was in Edge's place, I guess Rydia would be smothered with
attention." He scratched the back of his head nervously. "I get like
that sometimes. Just ask Ken. Hmm...How long have I been performing?
Over five years, that's for sure." Ryuu pounded his stomach with his
fist. "Ken and I have big appetites so we need to make enough but
lately we made more than enough..."
The band started to play the last song. It was a rather energetic
and robust piece.
"Come on Mana! Let's show everyone what we can do!" Garret said with
a smile as he pulled her to the center of the dance floor. The
dancing crowd cleared a significant amount of space to watch the
dragoon couple dance. Mana and Garret danced in perfect point
counter-point harmony.
Ryuu rubbed his nose rather quickly in a slightly jealous and
agitated manner. "Come on Chrissa! Let's show them who are better
dancers. Hey, Edge, Rydia! Let's see the pride of Eblan! Which ever
couple the crowd likes the most, I'll buy them the best drinks and
snacks!" he declared as he led Chrissa to the center of the dance
floor. "Garret! I challenge you!"
Garret smiled a carnal smile. "You're on! There are only things you
can do when the partners absolutely trust each other. True lovers
make the best dance partners."
Mana giggled. Boys were so immature sometimes and always had to
compete in everything it seemed. Oh well, she was game and it showed
as the dance moves she and Garret performed became more flashy and
risque as well as risky to both dance partners considering what they
were wearing. Mana was thankful her yukata wasn't very long or she
would run the risk of tripping.
Ryuu hoped that everyone else would join the fun. Things were more
fun with Ken around especially. Why was Ken taking so long with
Carasha? Obviously the girl had way too much pride. Not only her but
Golbez as well as he was still surrounded by fan girls but he was
standing still as a statue. Too bad the girls were too drunk on
either alcohol or their own ignorance to figure out Golbez didn't
want to have anything to do with them.
Amasa watched everyone from above, standing on a tree branch of a
large tree nearby. He watched Mana and Garret and began to wonder
about something. He then looked at Golbez and frowned. Feeling
intense burning inside him, he diverted his attention elsewhere. He
couldn't shake off this feeling that his life as well as the lives
of the others were in danger dispite the fact everyone seemed to
have a smile on their face.
"They'll be fine," said a voice beside him.
"You sure about that?" Amasa didn't feel as sure.
"If we complete our mission then everything will be okay."
"Golbez knows now that I want to kill him. That might put our plan
into danger. He'll now be on guard around me."
"Psssh...Everyone wants to kill Golbez. That's nothing new. It's
just a minor problem. You have his blood and I get the feeling you
are more then strong enough to take him out if he becomes
bothersome."
Amasa looked down towards Mana. "Not everyone...She would cry if he
died. I should know. She doesn't know that he wouldn't shed a tear
if she died."
"Are you so sure? You've noticed haven't you? He let's his guard
down when she is around."
"Are you so sure? I haven't noticed his guard going down at all."
"You're thinking of the wrong type of guard. This guard...letting it
down invites a hurt that is more painful than anything else."
"What are you talking about?"
"You'll see..."
"True lovers make the best dance partners," Garret called.
"If that's the case, we've got you beat!" Edge taunted, "Right, Rydia?"
"That's right," the green-haired girl grinned, "We're already married!"
King and Queen Eblan walked onto the dance floor and began to show their
stuff. They started out with easy tricks and then, as the song picked up, the
couple began to perform moves that one would expect to see in a gymnastics
performance. Edge's serpentine, stealthy agility merged perfectly with
Rydia's beautiful grace to create a fluid dance that made both people seem to
move as one.
*****
Golbez ignored the fangirls around him. Eventually, he managed to push his
way out of the flock. Papers with addresses, love notes, and adorations stuck
out of his robe. As he walked, he either pulled the notes out or pushed them
into his robe. He made his way to the edge of the crowd and watched silently
as the dancers paraded about...Something was a bit odd tonight...
Chrissa chuckled, although realizing she would have to dance much
harder then usual if they were to outdo the others. "You sure we
have a chance against these guys, Ryuu?"
She glanced over, noticing Carasha actually accepted the
offer. "Woah, I think the world just went downhill.."
Eric was having his own troubles. The lady he had asked to dance
instead of dancing.
Rosa was starting to feel really awkward with this guy named Winbel.
He was obviously very drunk, and she didn't like the way he had his
hands on her. She couldn't help but feel as if she were bvetraying
Cecil. Then, people approached and started asking Rosa who she was
going to dance the last dance with.
'I haven't even danced a first dance and they already want me to
choose a partner for the last dance....'
She smiled and felt awkward.
'Okay...make a choice...someone I am comfortable with...'
She smiled at those gathered around her, and held her hand out to
Edward.
"I was actucally hoping you would partner up with me." (turns to the
other gentlemen) "Sorry kind sirs."
She gave a little curtsey and followed him out to the dance floor.
'At least I can maybe have some fun with an old friend...'
Rosa smiled as she was twirled about. She tried, for once, to forget
the pain of the past and have fun again, like in the old days.
Winbel watched everyone dancing and having fun, and suddenly felt a
pang of lonliness. He could almost feel the love between everyone
there, and once again, he felt like an outsider. He stood up and
started walking around blindly, looking only at the faces of the few
people he just met. They all knew eachother so well, there was true
love in that group.
~~flashback~~ *doobedoobedoobedoobe* (ooc: enjoy the sound effects? I
did.)
"No honey, like this." The gorgeous and graceful woman centered her
mind. A monster appeared before the woman and winbel, then only four.
His yellow eye focused in on the monster, and seemed to communicate
something deeply profound. That eye held alot more wisdom than normal
four year olds carried. "Now you try."
The woman left Winbel and the monster alone. Winbel looked at the
monster and smiled. He held out his hand to be shook (?). "Hi!"
The strange beast looked curiously at the extened hand. "Gr. Grr."
"My mom wants me to play summon, but I don't wanna. She never cares
about what I want."
"Grrr. Ggr."
"Yeah. Hey! lets run away! who needs them, anyway?"
"GggRggRR"
Winbel's mom came out a few hours later, to find both winbel and the
monster gone. She wept for days, after not being able to find her
son. She never recovered and died quickly in the flames that devoured
the city a few years later.
~~/Flashback~~ *doobedoobedoobedoobedoo* (yay for sounds!)
Winbel's normally joyous and almost bubbly face showed lines of
depression and worry. A side he hadn't felt in a long time. He
wandered across the dance floor, blankly staring at a tree in the
distance. In his blind wandering, he accidently bumped into 'of all
people..' Golbez. He bounced off, and landed on the floor. Winbel
just sat there, as if nothing had happened and stared at the floor in
front of golbez's feet. Almost as if his soul had left him...
(OOC: K, the flashback is a little weird, but I had alot of
creativity (if you can call it that...) stored up in me because of
the long wait for Rosa's response, so I just HAD to write as much as
possible, lest my mind turn to something vaugly reminicient of the
pie from thanksgiving '87. I also like to think of winbel as kind of
a sad drunk...)
OOC: Argh, my stupid email has been giving me some problems. Here's
the post that should've gone through but for some reason was shunted
only to one person.
IC:
Golbez tensed when the vagabond bumped into him. With narrowed eyes,
the sorcerer watched Winbel collapse at his feet. Golbez briefly
wondered if he should have any sympathy for the man. Whether he
should or not...He didn't.
"Pathetic," he muttered. If he just left Winbel there, the scoundrel
might get trampled.
Then again, what did Golbez care? This was twice now that Winbel had
the audacity to touch Golbez. Moreover, the man was a drunk and a
fool. Resisting a temptation to kick the body, Golbez turned to
regard the dancing once more.
Garret gave the Eblan King a narrow glance. There was no way in
hell he was going to lose to him!
Ryuu just laughed. This was so much fun! "Don't worry Chrissa! We
can keep up with them. Ken!" he called out. "Hurry up and get on
this dance floor!"
Ken smiled and escorted Carasha to the dance floor. "Let's really
make an impression no one will forget."
Even Rosa and Edward joined the group of dancers and the crowd
watched as every couple tried to out do each other in their own
unique style.
The song was about to come to an end and Garret wondered what a good
finish for him and Mana should be...
"Mana...up," he said before holding both his hands out.
Mana understood instantly and performed a jump using his hands as
the start off point. As she came down, she performed like an expert
diver. Garret caught her right when the music stopped. Fireworks
went off telling everyone the festival was soon to be over. The
crowd threw dozens upon dozens of roses of many colours over the
dancers not clearly deciding the pair they liked the best since
everyone had their own preferences.
Ryuu caught some of the yellow roses being thrown on them and
quickly made a crown for Chrissa and put it on her head. "Hey! You
look even more cute now!"
Garret did the same for Mana with the white roses being tossed
towards them. "White huh?" Garret muttered. "Makes you wonder if
they mean purity in death and if the crowd knows what is going to
happen..."
Mana just smiled as he put the crown on her head.
"Hey Ryuu!" Garret shouted out. "Looks like you'll be buying
everyone drinks and snacks tonight! You better have a lot of money
because I am going to order the most expensive things possible."
Ryuu stuck out his tongue. "Don't worry, I have enough."
Mana caught sight of Golbez in the crowd watching them. "Golbez!"
she called as she ran to him. "Did you see everyone? Wasn't that
amazing how everyone danced like that? I really wished I could've
danced just one dance with you but you had so many girls after you
and I thought you would've wanted to dance with them instead."
Garret walked by and overheard what she said. "There's always next
time to dance with Mr. Gloomy over here. It isn't like you are going
to die anytime soon so why worry? Anyways, I am going with the
others to get our 'prize' Ryuu offered. Ha ha ha! I'll see you later
all right?"
"Okay," Mana replied before turning her attention back to Golbez.
She saw something sticking out of his pocket and with a mischievous
smile, quickly pulled it out. From the look of it - frilly paper
covered in red hearts, perfume and lipstick, it was an obvious love
note. "So, what is this?" Mana noticed that Golbez's pockets had the
look of many notes crushed hastily inside. "Going to take someone on
their offer?" She eyed the crowd of fangirls looking at him from not
too far off. Sighing, she handed Golbez back his fan letter. "I
guess since you got so many of these, you wouldn't want something
from me."
While Mana was looking down, she noticed poor Winbel on the ground.
It looked like the crowd knocked him over. She tried her best to
direct the crowd away as to give them some space. She held out her
hand and helped him up. "Are you all right sir?" she asked a little
worried. "You should go to a medical tent just in case you are
injured." Mana turned her attention back to Golbez. "I'm going to go
send a light out for my brother now before it gets to crowded.
So...um..I'll see you there maybe?" She gave the dark man a short
and quick bow before walking off.
Amasa decided that was his que to follow her.
"Good luck," said the voice behind him.
"Yeah, I'll need it," he replied as he jumped down from the tree and
began to follow Mana at a close yet safe distance.
Mana smiled as she walked. She couldn't wait to tell Garret how
popular Golbez was with the ladies. Garret had always said that
Golbez was too gloomy, dark and creepy for anyone to like. Mana
always thought it was because of the armour he wore. Without his
armour, Golbez really did look like a tall dark handsome prince one
would read about in fairy tales. Not only that but he was so kind
too. It was just that no one seemed to notice his kindness. No one
seemed to want to see how Golbez was taking care of everyone in
Baron since Cecil was gone, especially Rosa. No one seemed to notice
how hard Golbez was working to make Baron a safe place to live.
Mana held her hands against her chest and blushed. It was that
gentle fragile kindness of Golbez's that Mana found most attractive
about the man. "Wait...fragile? Golbez isn't..." She bopped herself
on the head. It was silly to think anything about Golbez was
fragile. It was just...there was something about Golbez that made
Mana feel she had to protect him of all people. "There I go
again...Golbez doesn't need protecting...he's probably the strongest
person alive. He doesn't need a silly girl like me annoying him,"
she said to herself.
Amasa just watched Mana slightly amused as he followed her. He
sighed himself. If only she knew what was in store for her in the
very near future...
Edward, although going to save the queen from the two young men,
hadn't intentionally meant to become Rosa's partner. But he happily
agreed, giving an apologetic look to Runic and Winbel.
Despite the competition, Chrissa enjoyed the dance, especially with
Ryuu, since he seemed so energetic. As the song ended, she felt
herself blush as the crowd came and surrounded the groups. Then the
captian turned redder when Ryuu suddenly presented her with a crown
of yellow roses. She quickly laughed over at Garret. "Don't worry,
I'll help out with the money."
Carasha, although not the first to admit it, liked the attention of
the crowd over their dancing.. And Ken turned out to be a better
dancer then she had figured at first....
"Woo! That was fun." Eric beamed. Then he looked over and saw
Winbel on the floor. "Whoa, I think he's had enough to drink..." he
quickly called, along with Mana to help the man up. "Man, how many
drinks did you have? You're defintely not getting on a chocobo in
this condition."
Edward stretched after the dance was done. It had been a long while
since he danced so hard, but if Rosa was enjoying herself, then
there were no problems. "Sorry about taking you away from those
gentlemen, but you didn't look very comfortable with them.." he
joked slightly.
Winbel was just getting comfy on the floor, when all of a sudden,
Mana and Edward helped him to his feet.
"ah, lady Mana," he started, but then he got lost in her eyes. "ah,
heh heh..."
Mana said some more stuff, and then quickly walked off. "Just how
much have you had to drink?" asked edward. Winbel jumped at the sound
of his voice. He almost forgot edward was there.
"I'm nwat drunk.." slurred the drunken Winbel. "I've onnnn...ly had
one or....more bottles..."
He suddenly felt very sick, and quickly ran away. He hid in an alley,
and lost most of his wine.
Edge and Rydia came down from the dance floor. Rydia's face was positively
flushed from the excitement and the action. Edge's likely was, too. However,
from what was visible of the ninja king's face, he was obviously fuming.
Naturally, he'd gotten his pride wounded by losing the competition.
Still sulking, the king got dragged by his wife over to Chrissa, Edward,
Carasha, and Eric.
"That was quite a blast," Rydia said brightly. Edge said nothing, folded his
arms across his chest, and harrumphed. Rydia resisted the urge to tickle
him...for now.
"You all did wonderfully," she said, smiling happily at her friends.
*****
Golbez smiled again. Mana was so wonderful. How could he not appreciate her.
This soft spot in his heart for her...He had never really experienced this
sort of feeling for another person. Granted, he was very protective of Rosa,
but he didn't feel this same way about Rosa.
He watched as she walked off in a hurry and then, shaking himself out of
reverie, walked after her. The sorcerer intended to send out a light, also,
this to his brother. He had to wonder what Cecil thought of the times and
what had become not only of Baron, but of the world now...and especially, what
had become of Golbez.
"Don't worry about money Chrissa," Ryuu said with a wink. "I knew
what I was getting into."
"I can't believe it was an all around tie!" said Garret as he was
enjoying his prize courtesy of Ryuu.
"You should be so lucky," said Ken. "I still cannot believe that I
tied with the likes of you," he teased. "You're lucky your dancing
partner was Mana or you would've been blown away by the rest of us."
Garret just stuck out his tongue in reply.
Ken chuckled and put a crown of red roses on Carasha's head that he
had made on the way to the food booth.
"So speaking of Mana, where is she?" asked Ryuu. "Doesn't she want
to munch out like the rest of us?"
Garret shrugged. "She wanted to send a light out for Kain early
before it gets really crowded. I bet you right now that Golbez is
probably with her or following her. Sheesh, doesn't he get it? You
don't go after another man's girl. I'll protect Mana from him or die
trying." Although Garret's words seemed like ones one would say in
anger, Garret spoke them with amazing calm.
"Most likely the latter," replied Ken.
"It doesn't matter, it's the principle!"
Ryuu laughed. "You're as blockheaded as ever!"
***
Amasa felt a familiar cold chill as he followed Mana. He took a
quick look back. Golbez was also following her and catching up fast.
Amasa had to think of something, something to buy some time just to
get him alone with Mana. Just enough time so he could...
That's it! Amasa waved his fingers behind his back and cast a charm
spell on all the nearby girls who didn't have an official date. The
girls instantly flocked over to Golbez hindering his progress.
"Hello, I would like some lights to send out," Mana asked the person
at the counter.
"Here you go Miss. Sending them out early and before everyone else
eh?"
"Yes."
"Smart move. It's going to very crowded soon. Anyways I hope you
enjoyed the festival and please have a nice night."
"Thank you," Mana said while bowing.
Amasa also picked up some lights and kneeled beside her near the
edge of the stream that flowed out into the river near Baron.
"Lighting that for your brother?" he asked as Mana sent out several
lights on small sturdy paper boats.
Mana turned to see Amasa still wearing the oversized hooded
cloak. "Yes, and for my family. Oh it's you again! Um.."
"Amasa. My name is Amasa Abner Harvey."
Mana smiled. "That's a nice name. So you're sending out lights for
your family and friends as well?"
"Thank you. Yes, for my mother mainly."
"Is your father here with you at the festival?"
"No, he is dead too."
"Oh. I am sorry...Will you be sending a light out for your father as
well?"
"No, I hate my father. He didn't care when Mom died. My father was a
horrible person."
"Your mother was killed by Golbez correct?"
"Yes and before you say it was because of Zemus - don't. He killed
her out of his free will. It had nothing to do with Zemus."
"H-how can that be?" Mana was shocked.
"Have you not heard? The reason Golbez was taken by Zemus was
because he already had darkness in him."
"B-but!"
"I came to warn you. Stay away from Golbez. He'll lead you to your
death." Amasa looked directly into her eyes and held her in place
with his intense gaze.
"Have you come here to kill Golbez?" Mana's voice became full of
worry. Amasa didn't say anything but kept looking at her. "Please,"
she pleaded. "Please don't kill Golbez. I'll do whatever you want!
Just don't do anything to Golbez. Take me in his place if that will
ease your anger towards him."
Amasa sent out his lights. He then grabbed Mana's right arm with his
left hand and gave a firm squeeze.
"A-ahhh," she winced and cried out in pain.
"What makes you think taking an innocent girl in place of a man like
Golbez will make me feel better?" Amasa asked as he pulled her close
to him. "Why are you being his sacraficial lamb? Haven't you
suffered enough for that poor excuse of a man?" Amasa eyed some cuts
near Mana's collar bone that wasn't covered by yukata or bandages.
Mana's face became red with embarrassment as the other man gave her
a look over.
Amasa let go of Mana and stood up. "He isn't worth it! Why can't you
see that?" he said to her in what seemed like a desperate tone.
Mana was still sitting on the ground fixing her yukata and
tightening it around her. She didn't want to look into Amasa's eyes.
There was something about his eyes that looked so hauntingly
familiar...
"He's using you like he used your brother. When he is finished with
whatever he wants with you, he'll toss you aside." Amasa turned and
started to walk away. He could feel Golbez's presence right there
even if he couldn't see him. The fangirls didn't stall him long
enough! He could have overheard everything! Where was he now...?
Mana stood up with a defiant look in her eyes. "You're wrong."
Amasa turned around. "Oh am I?"
"Yes you are wrong. Golbez isn't like that - not anymore."
Amasa couldn't help but smile. "One day, you'll see all there is to
see about Golbez."
Mana then realized something. "Why is it so important to you that I
stay away from Golbez?"
"I am working for some men. You are a part of my mission. I need you
alive," he said before walking away.
Runic watched as the dashing King swept Rosa away from the table and
onto the dance floor. <Edward, although going to save the queen from
the two young men, hadn't intentionally meant to become Rosa's
partner. But he happily agreed, giving an apologetic look to Runic
and Winbel.> Winbel had disappeared as well. Runic, again, found
himself sitting alone at the table. He had managed to finish a
pitcher of ale himself before getting up to mingle. The booze indead
had an effect on him. Though dizzy for a moment, he managed to find
his way to the entrance. He shook his head for the moment, trying to
regain his sobriety, then left the building. He looked around for a
moment, trying to find Alex. He didn't seem to be anywhere in
sight. He sat down on the bench outside and layed out on it,
watching the stars above. While watching he notice people in the
tree above talking. One man came down after an other gentleman had
left the dancefloor. Runic was going to get up and follow the man,
but he fell asleep on the bench, to tired to get up...
~~~~~

Meanwhile, after Alex had walked off in a drunken daze after hearing
the voices in his head, he had passed out somewhere in the woods
nearby.

He awoke, scratching his head in confusion. 'Where am I...' he
thought, still trying to wake up. He sat up and layed against a
nearby tree. His head was spinning from the alcohol he had drinken
earlier. He rested until he was able to get up without getting
sick. He used the tree to push himself up. He was week for the
moment, but his strength would return as he walked. He had no idea
where in the forest he was. There was no buildings anywhere. Only a
trail covered with wierd footprints. 'These are not human tracks,'
he thought as he analyzed one, 'These are goblin trails.' He stood
and began to walk. He turned around, thinking he heard something,
but he saw nothing so he continued walking. A little bit later he
turned again. 'I know I heard something this time,' he scratched his
head, 'It wasn't the voices...'

Out of the corner of his eye, he saw something poke its head out from
behind a tree. He looked but it hid again. He pulled out his sword,
he knew something was around him.

Moments later a hoard of goblins came from behind the trees. 'There
must be at least seven... Damn!'

"You bastards, c'mon!" Alex yelled has he began swing his broad sword
into the frenzy of goblins. He must have slayed half of them in one
blow. The remaining attacked him and knocked him to the ground. They
started to try tying him up but he grabed his musket from his coat
with his free hand and blasted straight through two of them. He
dropped his gun and kicked the goblin at his feet, then grabbed his
sword and killed the remaining goblins. He had two cuts on his leg
and one on his side from their claws. He set up camp nearby and a
tent to sleep in. He was safer by a small fire then trying to travel
with his current wounds. He sat by the fire and sharpened his sword
and reloaded his musket. After he put more wood on the fire, he
crawled into his tent and fell asleep.

Winbel wandered out from his little alleyway, and realized he was
very lost. He was still new to the area, and had no idea where he
was. He had lost sight of those he knew in his drunken struggle to
not throw up on them. He started wandering off in the direction he
thought he came in.

It was starting to get late. The place was slowly quieting down.
Winbel found himself at peace with himself and the world. All was
good.

Winbel somehow came upon a river. It was then he noticed the few
specks of vomit on his new clothes. He didn't like those clothes
anyway. He quickly got out of them, and dived into the river. He
leaned back and let the current flow over him. His muscles released
all their tension into the water. Time passed by slowly, as if it
didn't exist at all.

When winbel came to, he found himself floating in the midst of a
bunch of little lights on boats. He straightened himself and looked
around. He hoped no one was watching him in his nudity. He found Mana
on the shore, talking to some other man. Winbel quickly but silently
ducked deep into the water, hiding all but his eyes. He watched the
two, making sure they didn't see him, as he made his way back up to
his clothing and possesions.

Something wasn't right. Mana was getting agitated at the cloaked man.
He suddenly grabed her arm, and winbel could see her wince. He swam
quickly to shore, and grabbed his old ragged shorts. He put them on
as he ran back to where Mana and the man stood, but when he got
there, the man was already walking away.

Winbel walked up slowly, and sat down beside Mana. He didn't say
anything. He just sat there. Mana always took the words out of his
mouth anyway.

Golbez kept walking after getting past the fangirls. He saw Mana
ahead with Amasa, but the familiar man left quickly. He wondered what
Amasa wanted with Mana...The sorcerer wasn't entirely sure he could
trust the man...

Winbel, the drunk, also approached Mana and sat with her. That would
not do. Golbez had things he wanted to discuss.

"Mana," he said quietly as he approached, "May I speak with you...alone?"

Mana nodded and the two walked off, leaving Winbel behind.

When they reached a secluded place away from the rest of the festival,
Golbez spoke.

"I..." he hesitated. The words seemed hard for him to say. "I want
to thank you..." Before Mana could say anything, the sorcerer
explained himself. "I know it may sound...odd...But you have done a
great deal for me since I returned to Baron, especially since our
brothers' deaths. I wanted you to know that I appreciate it greatly."

Golbez glanced at the ground and continued on, "Ever since we began
working together, I came to appreciate you more. Now, I find myself
in a strange position...one I am unused to." He closed his eyes for a
moment. When he opened them, his dark orbs met directly with Mana's
gaze.

"If anything ill were to befall you," he said softly, "I would be
distraught. Even now, after your resignation...I accept it only
because I want what you think is best for you. I would see you be
happy at any cost, Mana..."

"I have never felt such a feeling in my bloody past..." his voice was
a whisper, barely audible, "but I have heard you will recognize it
when it is felt."

"...I love you."

Mana noticed Winbel and was about to talk to him when Golbez came
up. She smiled towards Winbel and said she would speak with him at
another time as Golbez lead her away.

What Golbez had told her, she wasn't quite ready to hear but
somehow...it felt right but also at the same time there was a dark
feeling in the back of her mind that told her it was wrong. Very,
very, very wrong because...
As much as she was going to regret saying this...

"..you don't.." she said quitely. "You don't really love me. You're
just confused."

I wish to any God that what I just said is wrong but I don't want to
hurt you...I don't want to lead you on if that is the case...

"You've been lonely for quite a long time haven't you? I think what
you feel for me isn't love. It's gratitude. Not that I mind...but I
wouldn't be a decent person if I took advantage of that to satisfy
my wish. If you truly did love me I would give you everything and
anything you want - you just have to ask me..."

I would give my life for you...I would sell my soul for you...

Mana looked up at Golbez with such sadness and conflict in her
eyes. "I want you to know, I love you just like I love everyone. I
love you very much." She held up her pinky finger of her right
hand. "Even if I leave, I will always come back to you no matter
what. Always. Let's promise?"
Mana felt her heart and voice waver. Her whole body hurt and it
wasn't just from the cursed robe that she had enchanted to protect
Golbez at her cost. She really did love Golbez ...she wanted nothing
more than to be his and his alone...

"You knew you would have to buy drinks for everyone?" Chrissa
chuckled, nudging Ryuu in the side.
Eric after helping Winbel up, had joined the others. "Man.. My
partner had too much to drink."
"Don't worry bro, I'll get you a drink too." Chrissa rolled her
eyes. Eric's face lit up in a look of a little boy's satisfaction.
"Thankyethankye." he grinned, almost hopping up and down.
It took everything Carasha had not to blush the color of the roses
that were atop her head. What was wrong with her? She was letting
Ken have too much influence on her. She danced with him, thats it.
The ninja took the rose crown off her head, putting it on Ken's
instead. "I think it looks better on you." she smirked, glad to have
a little control on the situation.
"You know, Mana's probably a lot better off then us by getting out
there early.." Chrissa sighed. A lot of boats will be out tonight,
after the things have gone in Baron. There wouldn't be anyone
without one to send.
"..This is not a time to be depressed." Edward started,
straightening up in his seat. "This is not a mourning for death, but
a celebration of the lives of these people."
"Right." Chrissa nodded.

Golbez hesitated just a moment, then linked his own pinky with Mana's.

"Whether I am wrong or not," he said softly, "I mean what I said. I cannot
bear the thought of being without you. And heaven help anyone who would
willingly harm you."

The sorcerer stepped back. Their promise was made, but he wasn't sure if he
felt any better about it. Still...He had come out and said his feelings -- no
small feat for Golbez. He knew, though, that he could do so around Mana...

He waited, his dark eyes seeking hers. It was her move now.

Mana just smiled as they made their pact.
"I know," she said. "Let's give it more time. I just don't want to
take advantage of you. I don't want hurt to come to you -"

"That's interesting," said a voice from behind Mana. The girl's eyes
went wide. "So someone like you can believe in heaven?"

Mana didn't have to turn around. She knew who it was. The fortune
teller. Mana suddenly had both of her hands at her chest as if
clutching her heart. She somehow was quickly being pulled away from
Golbez. For a moment, her vision blurred and she saw a grey misty
field and two men were running towards her waving their arms
frantically and it appeared that they were shouting. She couldn't
hear them though. The only thing she could hear was screaming in her
head. Thousands of voices in pain and dispair.

The fortune teller smiled as with his left it appeared it was going
through her chest. Mana looked like she was trying to pull his arm
away but her hands were going through the other man's. Only where
cloth touched the fortune teller's arm could she touch. This person
wasn't human! He just laughed at the girl's plight. To make things
more amusing for himself, with his right clawed hand, he made a
slash movement at Golbez. There was a white light and Golbez was
left unharmed. The same could not be said for Mana. Her body arched
back as blood came flying from her chest. The second yukata she wore
was now soaked in blood. The girl's body became limp in the fortune
teller's grip.

***

Amasa couldn't believe he lost his composure like that. But he was
desperate. Time was slipping through his fingers like water. He had
to complete his mission he had to...
From a distance he followed Mana and Golbez and overheard everything
from his hiding spot.
'It's a lie!' he thought. 'How could Golbez love anything? This is
Golbez...'
He then heard the fortune teller's voice. Amasa pulled out a vial of
liquid and swallowed its contents in a gulp. Pulling out his sash
whip, he leapt into the air with dragoon grace and landed behind the
fortune teller, having the sash wrap around fortune teller to
prevent his escape.
Dark blue energy suddenly came from the fortune teller and began to
electrocute Amasa but he held on.
"Hey," the boy said through clenched teeth. "I got a prediction for
you: You're not going to get away. You're going to die right here."

The fortune teller brought Mana closer to him and was trying to use
her as a shield against Golbez. "You attack me and she dies."

Amasa then looked at Golbez. "The longer she is in his hold, the
less chance she has for living. You're the one who is the expert
killer. I am sure you can work around this. Hurry up and kill him!"

'Damn' thought winbel. He really wanted to talk to Mana, but
something about the area seemed to bring interuptions like a woman
brings babies into the world. (ooc: ?) He turned and leaned up
against a tree. He watched Mana and Golbez from a distance.

Winbel must've dozed off, because the next moment he was looking, he
saw Mana covered in blood, and the hooded man was atacking someone
behind her.

"Holy shit!" he shouted. He quickly got up and ran away. "What the
crap was that?" He had to find help. He ran quickly to find everyone
else.

He ran in on everyone, they were all drinking and laughing. He jumped
up onto the the table they were seated at, and shouted, "Mana! Help!
quickly!" he didn't have time to explain. He grabbed the nearest
person, which just happened to be Eric, and started running back to
Mana and Golbez.

He explained on the way. "Something is attacking Mana and golbez!"

They arrived on the scene... Winbel quickly climbed a tree, and hid
away from the danger.

"Wha-?!" Eric tried to ask Winbel, but was pulled out of his seat
even before he could finish. Being dragged off, he dropped his drink
off at a table they were passing, much to the delight of whoever
that guy was sitting there.
"Mana?!" Chrissa suddenly dropped her glass. Luckily, it didn't
drop too far to the table to break, but it spilled out over the
counter. "I'm-I'm sorry!! I gotta go, Ryuu!" she quickly picked her
glass up, wiping up a bit before rushing off after Winbel and Eric.
"Hey--! Now what's going on?!" Carasha got up from the table in
time to avoid getting splashed on by Chrissa's drink. "What's the
hurry?!" she asked, wiping off the rest of the table.
Edward glanced off worriedly. ".. Something's not right.."

-----------------

"Someone's attacking them?!" Eric repeated what Winbel told him,
trying to run along with the other man instead of being dragged. As
soon as the man finally stopped and let go of Eric, Winbel was up
the tree, leaving Eric to figure out the rest.
The fortune teller who had come to them earlier was now holding an
unconious Mana, whom had blood running down her yukata, and the
Harvey decendant was there with his whip, holding the fortune teller
in place.
"MANA!!!!" Chrissa ran up as well, her eyes widening. "Let her
go!!!"
Eric quickly withdrew his sword, giving a worried glance over to
Golbez over what they could do.

The fortune teller smiled as he held Mana in his arm. His body may
have been bound by Amasa's weapon but his other arm was still free.
Others had arrived on the scene and the fortune teller only smiled
some more. He didn't care about the others - his target was Golbez.
His master needed Golbez...he needed darkness to overcome Golbez's
mind, heart and soul...
And this girl he was holding was keeping the darkness away from
Golbez. Maybe there was a way he could use her ...
The fortune teller smiled as he used his right clawed hand to lift
Mana's left. Blood was flowing down her body freely like a river.
Some was dripping off her fingers. He brought the bloody hand up to
his mouth and kissed it; tasting the blood. A carnal smile came on
his lips.
"Innocent blood is always the most delicious..."

Amasa felt himself weakening but he held on firm. He wasn't going to
let that charlattan fortune teller get away...He couldn't... his
mission...his pride...his life...

Mana's head leaned back exposing her neck. It would be so easy to
slit her throat in front of everyone...if they made the wrong move...
He kissed her exposed throat. Mana, even though unconscious, let out
a pained gasp as if her life was being sucked out of her.

"WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!" yelled Amasa.

****

Garret didn't need any urging nor did Ken or Ryuu. All three men
gave each other a knowing look.
"We have to go," said Ken as they started to run. Garret jumped his
way there, rooftop to rooftop, tree to tree until...

"Mana!!" Garret dove towards that fortune teller with his spear
raised and ready. He managed to strike true as he landed but he
suffered the same fate as Amasa, to be hit with dark energy.

"Ahhh!" Garret cried out as his spear was stuck inside the fortune
teller.

The fortune teller gripped the spear with his free hand and tried to
pull it out but Garret kept on shoving it in deeper.

"What is this weapon?!" cried the fortune teller.

Garret smiled despite himself. "A message from the Lord Highwind. I
won't let you get away with hurting his sister, my fiancee..."

"HEY! What's the deal?! Leaving the ninjas with the bill, huh?!"
Carasha gritted her teeth. With a growl, she dropped some money off
on the table, quickly chasing after them.

---------------------

"Get your grubby hands off her!" Eric took this chance to strike.
With the Fortune Teller's hands busy, it there wasn't anything to
block the attack, or so he hoped. Eric quickly took his blade back
behind him, then suddenly flung it at the Fortune Teller as hard as
he could.
Chrissa wished by all the forces that she had brought her weapon,
but all she could really do was hope the others got her friend out.

The sorcerer's eyes narrowed sharply. He barely noticed the others
approaching. His attention was focused on one point...Mana's wound,
and the man inflicting that wound. He swore...heaven help any who
would cause Mana harm.

Heaven help this man. He would need it.

Golbez did not scream. He did not lunge at the man, nor did his hands
move for his sword. He didn't even so much as move.

His eyes flashed bright green just once. The symbol of black magic
flickered around him for an instant and was gone. The fortune teller
made a strange gurgling sound deep in his throat before collapsing,
stone dead.

"Tend to Mana now," Golbez whispered hoarsely. His head bowed and his
eyes clenched shut.

"Holy shit..." the words escaped Ryuu's lips as he saw what had just
happened.
Ken blinked. Golbez had just killed a man with a thought - a single
thought.

(No! Mommy! Mommy! Don't die!)
Amasa had witnessed it again...spelled death. Even if this time the
person deserved to die, the boy couldn't stop the memories from
flooding his mind.
"Mother...!" Amasa muttered as he fell backwards, his sash weapon
undone.
Garret did the same.
Ryuu ran up to Mana and picked her up. "She's still alive but only
just..." He looked at Golbez. "Golbez..."
Ken helped Amasa to his feet. The boy had a glazed look over his
eyes and it looked like he was reliving a nightmare.

(Nooo! Mommy! Mommy!)

Garret started to cough out dark blood. Amasa started to do the same
after he recalled his weapon. Even Mana's body was having a violent
reaction.

"Ken!" Ryuu looked worried.
"Do it. Explain later."
"Come to Baron Castle." Ryuu then vanished with Mana.
Amasa then made a curious pass in the air with his hand. Ken and
Garret disappeared with him.

***
"Hold her down!"
"I can't stabilize!"
"What kind of poison is this?"
"The Harvey kid and Garret got it too."
"My god there are so many cuts on her body..."

Ken and Ryuu were in Mana's room in Baron Castle trying to stop the
poison from spreading.
"Ryuu, we have to do something! Nothing we do is working! Try a
transfer..."
"Ken, we don't know what that will do."
"I don't care just do it!"
Ryuu pulled out a long scroll of paper, wrote something on it and
wrapped it around Ken's and Mana's hand. There was a bright flash
and Ken was sent flying against the wall. He didn't get up but held
his stomach like his insides were being shreaded. He screamed.
Garret and Amasa were leaning against the wall barely holding their
own.
Mana seemed to have gotten slightly better thanks to Ken. Ryuu used
that time to get her new clothes, wipe away the blood and get new
bandages.
Amasa weakly held out a vial to Ryuu. "Give this to Ken and Garret.
It will help ease the pain of the poison..."
Ryuu nodded. After everyone seemed to have recovered somewhat he sat
beside Mana holding her hand. The only thing he could think of was
that Golbez had killed someone so easily. He looked down towards
Amasa.

"I know what you are thinking," said the boy. "Why are you so
suprised? This is Golbez. He IS a killer."

"But he ... did it to save Mana..."

"Let's see what she thinks about that when she wakes up."

"Golbez should be here with her no matter what. He must be so
worried," said Ryuu.

Garret didn't say anything.

Amasa gave Ryuu a bone chilling glare. "Bloody hands like his have
no right to touch anyone."

Ryuu let out a heavy sigh. "Let Mana be the judge of that."

Winbel hid up in the tree as everyone attacked the strange man. He
was absolutly amazed at the ability of the party, but mostly, he was
worried about Mana. He never even got to say more than a few words to
her, and already she was being hurt.

Winbel felt a surge of energy flowing towards the group, and suddenly
the strange man holding mana fell to the ground. Everyone quickly
rushed over to give Mana aid. Winbel, feeling safe once again, slowly
climbed out of the tree.

"Holy crap! That was scary!" Winbel said to the last few people
rushing up.

Winbel looked at the cloaked man who came to Mana's aid so quickly.
Wasn't he hurting her just a few moments ago? Something didn't add
up. Winbel walked over to him, and stood behind him. Winbel watched
the man curiously, trying to figure him out.

"How is she?" Winbel asked, very worried.

"W-what happened?!" Chrissa stared in horror at where the scene
used to be.
"Come on! They're at the castle! We gotta see if we can help!" Eric
grabbed his sister's wrist as he pulled her along in a rush to the
castle.
Carasha had been running up, being very slow in this dress, when
she saw the other two coming back the other way. "What's going on!?"
"Garret, that Harvey guy, and Mana were injured. They're back at
the castle now!" Eric called. With a heavy groan, Carasha turned
back around towards the castle.
Edward however, continued onto the scene where Golbez and Winbel
were. "Golbez, Winbel, could you explain what happened? None of you
are hurt, are you?"

---------------

After a long while, the group found which room the others were
in. "Oh man!" Eric made room for Chrissa to rush in. She quickly
started using her white magic on Amasa, Ken, and Garret, being
careful to remember Mana couldn't handle it.
"I thought you said only three of them were injured?!" Carasha
huffed over at Eric, out of breath.
"I thought so.." he shrugged. He quickly turned to Ryuu. "Anything
we could do?"

Winbel jumped when edward spoke. He looked at edward silently for a
few moments, while his mind caught up with him. Suddenly, he could
think again, and winbel started:

"They were, and he just, and it was, like, GRR and I was, and then I,
but she, and then he, and then the other, but I went AHHH and it went
GRR and I went like, and drinking, but eric, then the guy, and black,
and BOOM but not, and then..."

Winbel confused himself again. His brain needed more time to catch
up. He looked at golbez blankly.

making another character who's more serious, maybe.)

"My god did you see that Morryigan?"
Morryigan just lowered her binnoculars with her mouth gaping. "I
never knew...when could Golbez do that?!"
Oskar tried to shrug off his worry. "I think it had something to do
with that dragoon girl."
"Kain's sister?"
"Yeah. I think we should move with more caution if our plans are
going to involve her."
"I agree. That's a nasty way to die, and I prefer not to die that
way."

****

"You saw that didn't you?"
"My soul has never felt such a chill."
"Agreed. I can't believe this is happening."
"Do you think everything will be okay now?"
"I honestly have no idea."
"What will we do about Golbez?"
"I have no idea on that matter either."
"We're screwed aren't we?"
"Pretty much."

Two men stood at the scene unnoticed by everyone else. They could
not be seen would be the more correct. One with deep blue eyes
looked down at the pile of white roses covered in blood that was on
Mana's head as a crown only moments before. He kneeled down and
tried to pick up a flower. His hand went right through it.

"Curses. I forgot..."

His pale companion chuckled. "We should hurry to the castle and see
if they are all right. Our time here will be up soon," he said
pointing to the fireworks that were signalling the ending of the
festival.

"Agreed."

****

"Thanks..." Garret muttered. He still clutched his sides as if he
too was being torn to pieces from the inside out.

Ryuu gave Ken a quick glance and then hopped on Eric hugging him and
crying a river. "Ken was fine then he tried this weird technique to
help Mana and now he too is injured!"

"There's really nothing more you can do," said Amasa with deadly
calm. "They'll live don't worry. It's just going to hurt like hell
for the rest of the week."

Ken was on the ground trying to breathe properly. It was like
breathing itself hurt.

The two men appeared in the room unseen by everyone else.

"Looks like she is fine. She's a tough one; reminds me of someone I
know," the man with the pale complexion said to his companion. He
smiled when his grey-blue eyes saw relief in his companions.

After a while Ryuu finally stopped sobbing and let go of Eric to
walk towards Ken. He walked right through the man with blue eyes and
felt a strange feeling. He mouthed the words: "Don't worry, I'll
take care of it."

The man smiled as he saw this. He and his companion disappeared as
the last firework went off telling everyone the festival was at an
end.

"At least the general public didn't see that monster," said Garret
with some relief.

Golbez slowly let his fists unclench. He was still tense, that much was
visibly noticeable. The sorcerer had never, ever been able to cast any spell
by virtue of thought alone...Not that easily. And a fatal spell at that. It
wasn't that he feared the power, it was more that...he wasn't sure how he did
it. And he didn't like that fact.

"I am fine," he said quietly in response to Edward's question, "The
fortune-teller attacked and attempted to kill Mana and the others and I...slew
him. Then Ryuu took Mana off elsewhere to tend to her."

Golbez stared at the ground where Mana had stood as if it held the answers.

Subject:  Capture : Rosa's view

ADVERTISEMENT

OOC: I have no idea what happened with our Rosa as she said she
would post but obviously hasn't. Unfortunately Rosa is very vital to
the RPG to have her stay still too long. She'll be moved around
until the owner can contact me on what is up.
Also I need to eliminate 2 villian characters - Morryigan and Oskar.
The first person to catch either one will have their character level
raised. Also on that note, Golbez has earned 5 star rating meaning
he has the potential to use his limit break and become a villian if
his owner so wishes.

BIC:

"Hey!" was all Rosa could say as everyone dashed off. When she heard
that one of her friends was being attacked, she didn't expect it to
be the creepy fortune teller. What she witnessed next was gruesome
as well as disturbing as she witnessed a new ability emerge in her
brother-in-law. Some of the others left with Mana and although Rosa
wanted to follow them, she wanted to know more about the situation
first. She walked over to the body of the fallen fortune teller with
the intent on examining the area and him for clues. But as soon as
she got close the body started to release some kind of grey - black
mist that made Rosa want to puke upon breathing it. The body of the
fortune teller literally vapourized and scorched the ground
underneath.

"What the-?" Rosa then turned to everyone else. "We should get
going. The festival is over and we don't want to draw attention to
this area. I am going to see if the others are all right." With that
she cast an Exit spell that brought her to her room in Baron Castle.
She wandered the halls heading to where she assumed the others took
Mana.

"Well, what is this? The precious Queen of Baron all alone..."

Rosa was about to turn around but was grabbed from behind.

"Looks like history is going to repeat itself. I am so sure the last
guy I sold you to wouldn't mind beating some obediance into you..."

Rosa's eyes widened. It was Morryigan!

****

Ryuu then helped Ken up. "Well I guess everything is okay here. I
think I should take Ken to a room to rest."
Ken muttered something about not needing taking care of but Ryuu
just pinched his nose and made a funny comment.
Garret sighed. "Yeah we should get outta here -"
Amasa pulled Garret aside and whispered something to him. Garret
frowned and the atmosphere in the room seemed to get darker.
"Is that so? Well, I'll deal with it later," replied Garret as he
prepared to leave the room. "Could you watch Mana for me?" he asked
Amasa. "There is something I need to do."
Amasa nodded. "Of course."
Garret looked at everyone remaining in the room. "Well what are you
waiting for? Shooo, scram...let Mana rest. She is fine now."
****
Oskar crept around on the other side of the castle. Morryigan was to
get the Queen while he was to kill Kain's sister since Kain was
already dead. The dragoon girl was weak now and it would be the
perfect time to strike while Golbez was away from her.
Oskar found her room easily enough and threw a silence spell at
Amasa.
The boy whirled around and found Oskar entering the room from the
balcony. Amasa was glad no one else was in the room now. He had a
funny feeling that Morryigan was after the Queen and they could help
her then. The boy gave Oskar a Golbez like death glare that made the
man startled.
"How many Harveys are there?" Oskar cursed. "How many of you do we
have to kill?"
****
Rosa rammed her elbow into Morryigan's stomach and forced her to let
go. "Don't think I am going down that easy!"
"Indeed," muttered Morryigan.

OOC:Sorry this is such a long post. It covers from where I left off
to where we are right now. If you don't want to read the whole thing,
the last section below the three Signs: ~|~ ~|~ ~|~

BIC:

[During the Dance]

<Runic sat down on the bench outside and layed out on it,
watching the stars above. While watching he notice people in the
tree above talking. One man came down after an other gentleman had
left the dancefloor. Runic was going to get up and follow the man,
but he fell asleep on the bench, to tired to get up...>

He awoke later the next morning, or so he thought. It was still
dark outside. Runic looked out the window to the big grandfather
clock inside.

"It's only midnight... that means the festival is still going for
an other hour or so, I think." Runic sat up and shook his head.
"Heh, still a bit tipsy," he laughed, still feeling a little
drunk. He stood and adjusted his clothes and equipment. He was
thirsty and worn out from the drinking inside. He went in and
asked for a big glass of water. He had noticed many of the
people he had seen dancing were not here anymore.

"Sir, do you know where many of the dancers left to?" Runic
asked the bartender, "Did you see where they went?"

"...Umm, I think they went that way," he said, pointing to the
window, "They seemed kinda panicy or spooked about something."

Runic dashed out of the building. He quickly turned back around
and went inside, finished drinking his water, then ran back
outside. He ran for a little bit in the direction the man pointed.
When he arrived, mostly everyone was around, including the
dark fortune teller. "What the hell is he doing here!" Runic
shouted in anger.

<Mana's head leaned back exposing her neck. It would be so easy to
slit her throat in front of everyone...if they made the wrong move...
The fortune teller kissed her exposed throat. Mana, even though
unconscious, let out a pained gasp as if her life was being sucked
out of her.

"WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!" yelled Amasa.>

Runic wanted to do something, but he knew his actions would only
inflict more suffering to both him and mana. He remembered what
it felt like the last time he touched him. Golbez had just been
standing there, as if he did not want to help. Runic was confused
as to why he was not doing anything, but then he saw something
that was totally undescribable.

<Golbez's eyes flashed bright green just once. The symbol of black
magic flickered around him for an instant and was gone. The fortune
teller made a strange gurgling sound deep in his throat before
collapsing, stone dead.>

Runic just fell back on the ground in a sitting position with one
arm behind him holding him up and the other on his sword. He was
astonished. He did not know what to do or what to say, what he
had just seen was something he could never do.
"Why wasn't I born with the ability to use magic..." he muttered to
himself. He stood as the dark fortune teller disappeared into a
grey mist.

~|~ ~|~ ~|~

The others had taken Mana somewhere for tending.
Runic headed for Baron castle, assuming that's where they had gone.
He knew about the Highwind Manor, but didn't know it's location,
so he proceeded to the castle. He roamed the halls and searched
a few rooms. The castle seemed to be empty.

"I guess this isn't where they came," he said to himself as he
started to leave.

He thought he heard someone walking around the corner, so he crept
up slowely and used a small mirror he had pulled out of his
satchel to peek around the corner.

<"Well, what is this? The precious Queen of Baron all alone..."

Rosa was about to turn around but was grabbed from behind.

"Looks like history is going to repeat itself. I am so sure the last
guy I sold you to wouldn't mind beating some obediance into you..."

Rosa's eyes widened. It was Morryigan!>

Runic became furious, but remained behind the wall. Just as he was
about to run around the corner and help, <Rosa rammed her elbow into
Morryigan's stomach and forced her to let go. "Don't think I am
going down that easy!"

"Indeed," muttered Morryigan.>

Runic came running around the corner as Rosa was running off.
Morryigan had turned around just as Runic had lept in the air
and kicked, planting both feet right on her chest.
Morryigan went flying into some armor and into the wall.
She didn't seem to be going anywhere anytime soon.

"Queen Rosa!" Runic shouted as she just went around the corner,
hoping she had heard him.

OOC: Gomennasi! I'm such a bad kid for not posting T_T

IC: "O-okay.." Chrissa started, as they were shooed out of the room.
She would have protested that someone more trusting should be left
in the room, but if Garret trusted Amasa, she probably should also.
".. Ryuu will probably need help with Ken.." Carasha mumbled
quickly, going in their direction.
"Sure, Chrissa will catch up with you in a minute." Eric waved her
forward. His sister gave a curious glance.
"What's this about?" she asked.
"I'm going to the castle. I'm going to pick up the sword, and then
I'm leaving, tonight." Eric explained, obviously having said that
line to himself over and over beforehand.
"Tonight?! But Eric, you can't leave now! You see what's going on?"
she grabbed onto the front of his robe.
"I want to become a paladin, to protect everyone I love. I couldn't
protect you when Baigan left you in the Torian Forest, and I
couldn't protect mom and dad... I don't want to be a spectator to
this anymore. I want to be able to prevent that pain from ever
coming to anyone again." He looked down at his sister, a serious and
solemn look over his face.
Chrissa could only stare back, as if trying to figure something out
about him. "But.. Brother..." a sob suddenly came out. "Something's
going to happen to you! I know it! The Dark Fortune Teller predicted
it!"
"Chrissa, don't listen to what that guy said! He's gone now, and
not only that, none of his fortunes has come true yet!" Eric
answered. "I'm going to the castle now."
"Not alone! You can't go by yourself on this journey! You'll be
eaten alive at the mountain!"
Eric gave a smile. "Okay, are you ready to go?"
".. Yeah."

And without another word to the others, they were down the stairs,
and heading out of the manor towards the castle.

------------------

"That fortune teller?" Edward repeated. "... He must be some sort
of minion to Kluya.." he seethed under his breath. He looked back to
Winbel. "... Better get you to a bed before you stress yourself."

"what? oh, right." Winbel dozed off for a moment after calming
himself down. "wait... a bed? I get a bed? wow... So fancy." He
purposly avoided looking at or thinking about everything, so as not
to upset himself. Without even thinking, he started walking towards
the city. He walked slowly and thought very deeply, mostly about
Mana. He hoped she was okay. He didn't know her at all, and yet he
was icredibly enraptured with her. He also thought about golbez, and
the strange men who appeared tonight. Who were these people? He
hardly met them a few hours ago, and already people are trying to
kill them. Something wasn't right. Winbel wanted to run away from
these people. He hated fighting. He just wanted to move on to the
next city, but... He needed to know more about Mana. Why was he so
attracted to her? There was something special about her, and Winbel
was going to find out what it was.

He eventually made it to the city, but was surprised at where he was.
He wasn't watching where he was going, and wasn't expecting to see
the city so quickly. He stood in a daze wondering where to go next.

ooc: You try writing a good post at 5 AM.

OOC: Gomen yo! T_T I am bad and didn't post.

Rydia and Edge had missed most, if not all of the commotion involving the
death of the fortune-teller. Still, they had a dread feeling that
something was amiss. The feeling came a bit too late to witness what
happened, but the couple left the table with an uncharacteristic
somberness.

As they hurried back to the castle, the royal couple encountered Chrissa
and Eric en-route.

"Chrissa!" Rydia called and hurried up to the dragoon girl and her
brother, "Chrissa, what just happened?"

Edge caught up to his wife and the two waited expectantly.

******

Golbez cast a Warp spell as soon as most of the people around left. He
vanished, rematerializing within his own quarters.

The sorcerer's rooms were generally fairly dark, as befit his usual mood.
A few magical lights here and there provided a dim, gloomy atmosphere to
the dwelling. He shucked off the magic kimono and hung it in a closet,
and then sat down heavily in a chair.

What was that? He wondered to himself. He'd never been able to unleash
so much magical energy with only a thought before. The sorcerer could
cast spells like Fire, Bolt, and Ice with little to no effort. He'd used
them so much that they were like second nature to him. Even the stronger
black magic turned out to be quite easy for him. But this? A death
spell?

The thought was quite unnerving to Golbez. If there were some meaning to
it, he'd have to find out what it was.

Absently, he reached up to touch the iron amulet that hung around his
neck. Four jewels lay set in the dark metal: a blue, a red, a yellow, and
a brown.

OCC: everyone should be at or headed to the castle.
Fox, I am just going to finish off what little I have to with Rosa
and after this post she's all yours until serena gets back. Who ever
posts next has the honour of catching Morryigan and Oskar if they
want to raise their character level.

Ryuu turned around suddenly as he heard someone else entered the
room. Carasha...
"Hey! What are you doing here?" Ryuu had trouble hiding a smug smile
that was creeping on his face. "If you are worried about Ken, he's
in good hands. He'll be okay in the morning. He's just sleeping like
a bear thanks to this little potion." Ryuu tossed up an empty vial
and caught it in his hand. No being one to waste time to satisfy his
curiousity he asked, "So do you like Ken or something?"

He wouldn't get an answer because there was an explosion related
noise heard echoing from the other side of the castle. Ryuu bolted
out the balcony and jumped towards the source of the noise.

****

Garret searched the castle, heading towards Golbez's quarters. He
had a feeling the sorceror was there. His fists clenched and
unclenched. All he could think of was how he wanted Golbez to feel
pain - and lots of it. He didn't care that his body was sore and
stiff, he didn't care that Golbez was stronger than him. All he
cared about was hurting Golbez...in anyway he could...
Golbez's door was locked. 'Typical...' thought Garret with a frown.
The dragoon boy went to another room and jumped out the balcony
there and onto Golbez's balcony and entered his room.
"You..." Garret said through clenched teeth. That was the only
warning Golbez got as Garret was suddenly in front of him and
punched him across his face with enough fury to knock the
contemplating sorceror down.
"How could you not see? How could you not notice? You're always
watching her and you didn't know? You who should know more about
magic than anyone else and you didn't think something was wrong when
you felt no pain when someone tried to attack you?" Garret ranted as
he picked up Golbez by the collar with his other hand raised to
strike him again. Tears started to stream down his eyes as he held
back his second blow. "She was dying as she stood next to you...I
warned her...I told her not to but she didn't listen. You....always
about you...What's so special about you anyway? If it wasn't for you
she would be okay now..."
Garret let go of Golbez and took a few steps back. "I heard, from
your relative what you said to Mana. I already knew... from the
moment I saw you lay eyes on her..." Garret's eyes narrowed as he
continued. "Just so you remember, Mana belongs to me. Go find
another girl among your vapid fangirl crowd. Mana's too good for the
likes of you. In fact it makes me absolutely sick that..."

BOOM!

Garret's head quickly turned at the noise. "Damn, why now?" He
bolted out the balcony.

****
Oskar struggled with Amasa. To Oskar it seemed that Amasa was
playing with him as it looked like he put no effort forth in
resisting Oskar.
"What are you boy?"
Amasa smiled. "The only man with the power and ability to kill
Golbez Harvey."
Oskar's eyes widened.
An explosion was heard and Oskar assumed Morryigan was having
trouble with taking out Rosa. The man made a quick escape to aid his
ally just as Garret burst into the room.
"Oskar here?" Garret asked.
Amasa nodded. "Morryigan as well. They are after Rosa. Better go to
the others. Mana is fine with me."
Garret nodded and left.

****
Rosa had a dagger on her but she was much better with arrows. Her
mind was racing as she thought of what to do next as she was
running. She had to get some better weapons fast.
Morryigan dropped a few smoke bombs in the hall after she recovered
from Runic's attack and while he was distracted with Rosa. She was
going to get the Queen of Baron if it was the last thing she did.
Rosa heard someone call her name. The voice was so
familiar..."Runic?" she asked as she stopped running.
Smoke filled the hallways making it impossible to see.
"Is anyone hurt?" Ryuu yelled as he ran towards the smoke filled
corridor.
"Everyone's favourite wind demon is here!" shouted Garret as he came
onto the scene.
'Great,' thought Morryigan bitterly until Oskar appeared by her side.
"Shall we take them out together?" he asked.
"Let's," replied Morryigan.
Oskar started chanting and spells of every element were flung in the
directions of Rosa's protectors.
Ryuu barely dodged a lightning bolt.
Garret used a wind technique to try to thin out the smoke in the
halls for better visability. These people were not going to get away.

Chrissa and Eric paused on the road when they heard Edge and
Rydia. "That fortune teller came and attacked Mana." Chrissa
explained. "Garret, that Harvey guy, and the others are healing up,
and we were--"
Suddenly an explosion was heard over at the castle. "What was
that?!" Eric shouted.
Chrissa quickly grabbed his wrist, pulling him along. "Sorry, can't
talk longer your majesties!"

--------------------------

"Actually..." Carasha started defensively, when the explosion was
heard. Ryuu was immediately out the balcony and off to investigate.
She held herself back a moment, glancing over at the sleeping Ken.
Kneeling near the bed, she brushed some hair off his face. "... I
had a nice time tonight." she smiled, leaning in and kissing his
forehead. She then left as quickly as a shadow out the same way Ryuu
left.

--------------------------

"It's those two from the dig site!" Eric whispered, from around the
hall corner, watching the action. "It's going to be hard to get them
through the smoke."
".. No, it shouldn't, Eric.." Chrissa grinned. She prepared up some
of her magic. "Sight!" she called, her eyes and her brother's
starting to glow slightly. They then rushed into the smoke, being
able to see clearly. "You take the spellcaster, and I'll get the
ninja!" she called. Hoping that Morryigan's vision was also blocked
by the smoke, Chrissa jumped at her, spear pointed out.
Meanwhile, Eric had his sword out, tapping on Oskar's
shoulder. "Excuse me, I think you better leave quick."

--------------------------

Edward shook his head, following the quite dazed Winbel around. He
figured in the shape the man was in, it wouldn't be wise to leave
him on his own. "Um, the inn is this way.." Edward, tugged on his
arm alittle, leading him in through the door.
The King then put some money on the counter. "I'd like you to get a
room for this man, he's been through a lot."

Winbel got up to his room and fell almost instantly into the bed.
There was no hope of waking him for quite a few hours. His mind
needed to repair itself first. He was going to have some major
nightmares, though...

OOC: Actually, after the long break in the story, I completely forgot
what was happening. Either way, I'm in the process of moving, so I
may not be able to post for some time. I think it'd be best if winbel
just died in his sleep or something... I don't think I could work him
effectivly back into the story anyway.

If you don't hear from me in 2 weeks, consider winbel officially dead.

Morryigan was distracted by Garret and didn't notice Chrissa until
her attack connected. Morryigan fell to the ground hard.
"Argh... this isn't my day...Oskar!" she called but Oskar had his
own problems.
He didn't like the way Eric spoke to him. He was about to fry Eric
when Ryuu popped up and slapped him on the back.
"Hey, you tried to fry me didn't you?" Ryuu asked as if just
realizing this man wanted him dead.
"That's right. I am going to kill you...." Oskar began to cast a
spell but nothing happened. "What the...?" He tried again to no
avail. Why couldn't he cast magic? Oskar then looked at the smiling
red head. That damn singer! What did he do when he slapped him on
the back?
More soldiers came and Morryigan and Oskar knew it was over. They
were escorted under heavy guard to the jail.
"Good! That horrid woman is finally under lock and key," said
Garret. "Anyone hurt?"
****
A couple days later a trial was arranged for Morryigan and Oskar for
their crimes against Baron and mainly Rosa. The jury mostly
consisted of dark knights and common soldiers as if to give the
impression of an impartial jury. Unfortunately for the renagade
couple, a lot of these knights were friends with the dragoons.
Mana had managed to wake up by then and stay conscious long enough
to give testimony. The strongest evidence came from Rosa. Ryuu acted
as judge and when it finally came for Morryigan to say something in
her defence, she just smiled and made snide remarks.
The criminal duo were found guilty and were sent back to the jail
waiting for Rosa and other officials to decide their punishment.
A guard roughly threw Morryigan and Oskar into their cell causing
them to be cut somewhere.
"What it you moron! That hurt!" shouted Morryigan.
The guard said nothing.
***LATER THAT NIGHT AFTER THE TRIAL***
Morryigan heard footsteps coming towards her. Three sets of them in
fact. After the trial, Morryigan had been feeling under the weather.
She assumed because she let her guard down and was caught by these
losers.
"Well, well..." she said with a sneer. "If it isn't dragoon boy,
dopey red head and dumbass guitarist. What an honour to get a prison
visit from you."
"So how do you like jail?" began Garret casually.
"Fine enough," Morryigan shrugged. "You can't keep me here forever
and I doubt Rosa has the guts to enforce capital punishment."
"You're right," said Ken quietly. "She most likely will show you
mercy...unlike us."
"Oh and what are you going to do? Kill me right now? You'll be
committing treson."
Ryuu looked at Ken in curiousity. "Ken, are we citizens of Baron?"
"No."
A cold feeling was creeping up Morryigan's spine as well as Oskar's
as they had a feeling that this wasn't going to be good.
"What about you dragoon boy?" said Morriygan.
Garret just smiled. "I do what I feel like. I care not for Baron."
Morriygan tried to get into a defensive position as well as Oskar
but they were bound magically and physically.
"Going to kill us like this?" asked Morryigan.
"No," said Garret. "You're already dying. Do you remember the injury
you recieved while being tossed in here? Well we extracted that
weird poison in Ken's and Mana's body and gave you a concentrated
dose along with some other rare and usually fatal toxins. If you
live come morning, I will be very suprised."
"You...didn't..."
Garret just smiled.
"What about you two? You're just strangers to Baron. What is your
stake in all of this?" asked Oskar.
"You caused suffering to those I hold dear," said Ken with amazing
calm. "So therefore you must suffer as well."
Ryuu cast a silence spell on Morryigan and Oskar as they began to
convulse and scream. The three left the jail unnoticed.
The next morning a guard found the criminal duo dead and from the
looks of horror and pain on their faces... they did not leave the
world peacefully.

OOC: sorry for delay - been busy and under the weather. also sorry
for speeding along but we shouldn't spend too long on an area. It's
basically character advancement and interaction until I throw
another baddie or twist at you guys. MC's characters Eric, Chrissa
and Jestryn's character Runic earn another star for their characters
to advance in ability level.

Mana weakly walked in the hallways using the walls as support. She
found herself outside Ryuu's room and saw him packing.
"Where are you going?" she asked quietly.
Ryuu turned around and smiled. "Well Ken isn't feeling too well
since that weird attack on you and I thought I would take him away
from here for a bit to recover. Speaking of which, you should still
be in bed. You look very pale."
Mana just smiled. "I'm okay really..."
Garret came around the corner and ran to Mana's side helping her
stand.
"Where's Ken?" asked Garret.
"I don't know," said Ryuu. "He said he had to see someone and I
assumed he was going to visit Mana but I guess not..."
There was a commotion not too far off and everyone headed towards it.
Ken had found Golbez and again slapped him across the face without
warning. He was uttering some angry nonsense and Ryuu ran to
restrain him. Ken struggled for a bit until he caught a glimpse of
Mana. He then remembered his promise and calmed down and let Ryuu
drag him away.
Garret sighed. "Sheesh, if he wanted to hurt Golbez he should've at
least waited until he was healthy..."
"Garret..." Mana wondered if he was planning something...She turned
her attention to Golbez as his glare made the crowd disperse quickly.
"Golbez are you all right?" she asked softly.
****
Ryuu tossed Ken over on a chocobo as well as their belongings. He
went to see Rosa and the others. "Thanks for the fun time," he said
with a smile. "Maybe we'll come back again to perform. Well be safe
and hopefully we'll meet again." He got on his chocobo and left with
Ken. When they were far enough, Ken sat up with a determined look in
his eyes.
"Now we can really begin..."
"Yes..."
***
Garret took Mana to the most sunlit balcony in the castle and left
her there. Mana leaned against the wall soaking up the warm
sunlight. She was so tired since she lost so much blood. Her
thoughts went to how she was going to be able to leave the castle in
her condition without anyone knowing or catching her.
***
"Garret Fuuma?"
Garret turned around. "Yeah, that's my name. What do you want?"
"Let's strike a deal. I'm sure you'll like it."
"Will Golbez be hurt because of it?"
"Most likely."
Garret smiled. "Talk...I'm listening..."

"So you can't tell me how it happened?" Carasha's arms were folded
as she gave an odd look to the jailer.
"Not really, we came to give them their food, and that's how they
were. 'Course, they deserved it. They were a waste of food anyway."
the jailer muttered.
Carasha turned and looked back into the jailcell, whereas the
bodies hadn't been taken up yet. "They look as if they were in
pain.. Didn't you hear them?"
"No, I didn't. Whats it matter? They didn't deserve to live at all,
this is probably divine punishment." the jailer raised his voice
slightly.
".. I suppose a dishonorable death comes to those who are
dishonorable." Carasha nodded. "But she was a ninja as well. I just
want to know who killed her."
"Well, don't expect us to play detective. You do what you will."
the jailer handed her the key to the cell, leaning on the wall and
watching to make sure she wasn't trying anything funny.
Carasha entered and checked to be sure they really were dead. Yup.
Although she noticed the cuts they had looked new, they certainly
didn't look fatal. After a few moments, she gave up on examining the
bodies, returning the key to the guard. "Who prepares their food?
Maybe it was poisoned."
"I doubt that. They get the scraps left from the kitchen." the
jailer remarked. "Just don't worry yourself, no one wanted them
alive anyway."
Carasha nodded, and left without another word. True, she cared not
for the two, but something within her didn't want this left unknown.
But she had nothing to go on, not now anyway.
She headed upstairs to her guest room. On her way, she noticed
Chrissa's was left open, and the captian was inside packing things.
Carasha gave a curious look inside, stepping in. "Where are you
going?"
Chrissa almost jumped, but when she saw the ninja, she relaxed,
going back to her packing. "Eric and a few of us are leaving for Mt.
Ordeals. We would have left sooner, but the trial held us back."
"A few of you, who would that be?" Carasha asked.
"Well, I'm not sure exactly. I'm going, and Eric is going around
now asking some other people. .. Did you want to come..?"
"Nah.." the ninja shook her head. "I'm staying here. Why don't you
ask Ryuu? He seems to like you."
Chrissa smiled and blushed, "That won't work. Ryuu and Ken left
just earlier."
"They left?" Carasha raised an eyebrow.
"Yes. They said goodbye, Ken whacked Golbez, and then they left."
Chrissa sighed.
".... Did they mention when they were coming back?"
"No, Ryuu said 'hopefully' we'll all meet again." Chrissa looked
down at her almost fully packed bag.
Carasha was silent for a while, contemplating to herself. Then she
shrugged her shoulders. "Of course, they're the typical on the road
guys."
Chrissa finally finished her packing, turning her full attention to
the ninja. "So.. they weren't the reason you're staying here?"
"I've done a lot of thinking, and I think I finally figured out why
I've been staying here. I have an enemy which I wish to defeat."
Carasha's look became a lot more menacing, turning her focus on the
subject.
"Enemy? Who?"
"Kluya." the ninja forced the name out. "I challenged him to a
fight, and I haven't given up yet."
"But, you can't fight Kluya by yourself." Chrissa quickly said.
"I never said no one could join me.. But you have a point, I'm
going to be training quite a bit." Carasha said. "... Do you know
when Mana wanted to leave?"
"Why do you--?" Chrissa was about to ask, but then realization hit
her. "You're.. You're going to follow Mana, aren't you? Since Kluya
has been targeting her."
"Right. I'll be here in Baron until she leaves. That'll be in quite
a while, due to the condition she's in." The ninja started walking
towards the door.
"Carasha!" Chrissa suddenly called. ".. As long as you are here..
Could you do me a favor, and watch over Edward while I'm gone? I'd
kill myself if anything happened while he was away."
".. Sure." Carasha nodded, then left.

--------------------------------

"The sword Excaliber..." Eric almost stared in awe at the blade, as
it seemed to reflect everything in the room. He had often done this
before. But now it was time for him to prepare and leave. He
carefully took up the sword from the pedestal, as if it were glass.
Then he gripped the hilt in his hand. It felt remarkable. But he
couldn't use the sword, not until he was a paladin. There would be
no power behind the sword. So he quickly put it away.
He needed to bring people along to help him up the mountain. He had
Chrissa coming, so that covered needing a healer, and she doubled as
a fighter. So now he would want to find a blackmagic user. Maybe
Golbez? ......
Maybe if Incentus couldn't come. He made his way to the young black
wizard's room, knocking lightly on the door. "Hey, you there?" he
asked.

<before Eric knocks on the door>

Reminiscing of his past and how he came to be here at Baron, Incentus
strolled around the castle. The dark night sky, and the coolness of
the breeze made Incentus decide to walk on over to the castle courts
to see what the locals were doing. The party had gone wonderful, but
Incentus wondered why it was he didn't get involved. He shrugged it
off and decided to get a bite to eat from the cafeteria.

He walked on over to the shop owner and asked for a chicken roll. The
shop owner obliged and replied. "Here ya go" a big grin on his face
as he passed the chicken roll down to Incentus. Incentus replied,
saying "thank you" his eyes glowing and accepted the roll to eat. It
had been a while since he had eaten something like this. He walked
over to a bench to sit down and eat his dinner.

His he ate his meal, Incentus was just minding his own business. For
he thought "why should I bother doing anything else?" so he grimaced
and went on eating his dinner. It sure was nice, he thought to
himself. As the night progressed he noticed more and more people were
drifting away, "probably heading off home to bed" he thought. But
many stayed, the night life captivating them and all people seeming
to have a good time as Incentus paid attention to his own business.

For the first time in a while, Incentus began to regret his
loneliness. "It sure was nice to be around people" he thought. So
once he had finished his meal he decided to get up and talk to a few
people. "I guess it has something to do with my short height and
young age" he continued to think. "but that had no relevancy in the
past" he thought. People just liked him for him. But the thought
faded from his mind as he made his way over to a bunch of small kids.
One a white mage, she seemed to have a very exciting personality. The
rest seemed to mingle around her. "I think she's the leader" he
thought to himself.

"Excuse me..." said Incentus, looking over at the girl.

She turned her face towards him, her eyes brightened up and a big
smile on her face emerged. "Incentus! O MI GOSH! What are you doing
here?" She hurriedly made her way over to him, grabbing him and
hugging him strongly. "It's me! Felistia! I havent seen you in the
longest, what are you doing here!? O MI GOSH! This is great, i was
looking for someone I knew..." She stopped, and panted for a
while. "Aah.. relaxed again. It's good to see you Incentus, it really
is. We should chat together sometime. OH YEAH! We're here now, why
not now? Are you staying in the Castle!?"

Most unexpected for a white mage, Incentus thought to himself. The
name did remind him of someone, though it hadn't clicked at the
moment. "Maybe it will come back to me later" he thought. He
continued to smile as Felistia talked to him. He certainly tried to
make conversation, but as of now it was a tad onesided. She went on
how she decided to leave Mysidia, hearing that Baron had a good class
for White Mages, she had jumped at the opportunity to come when her
leader invited her to come along with him. "He's such a cute and
exciting leader" she thought out loud. "I couldn't say no to such a
cute face" later finding out she was talking about her white mage
trainer Drek Mansefield. "He's left to talk to the White Mage
committee about letting us into their classes, so i've been left
alone until now" she sobbed as she said this. "But it's great to see
you" a smile and joyful expression entering her face. "You seem a
little quiet. Are you alright?" she added. "No i'm quite alright he
said. It's quite pleasant having someone to talk to" he replied.

So the night progressed, mostly Felistia talking, Incentus nodding.
But he decided to speak up. "Felistia, i have a room in the Castle,
would you like to come in to chat a bit more? It seems you have alot
on your mind" he stated. "WOW! Where did that come from?" he thought
to himself. Regardless, Felistia warmly accepted. "Sure" she replied,
a lightened expression on her face. They made their way over to his
room. Incentus opened the door to reveal where he was staying, and
obliged to Felistia to step in. "Nice room" she said. She jumped onto
his comfortable bed and relaxed herself as she realised how nice it
felt. "It's been a while since i've had such a good time Incentus.
I'm glad you're here" she said. "Ya know, we haven't talked so much
since we were children..." she continued, "it's really nice to be
able to do this again, usually we get too caught up in our own little
worlds, eh?" she finished. "WOW! did I say that?" she thought to
herself. Incentus smiled. Sitting down on a chair he looked over at
Felistia. "It is nice to see you too, Felistia" he thought to
himself. "Why don't you come over and sit next to me?" she
said. "Sure" said Incentus. So he walked over and sat down next to
her. It did feel good, as she had implied.

A look of seriousness fell open Incentus "face" He looked over at
Felistia and began to speak. "A fellow known as Eric made known to me
he wanted to climb Mt Ordeals to become a Paladin. I've been thinking
much of it of late. It's indeed promising - but as our Village Elder
used to say, only 1 such warrior has ever made it to the top and
survived. And he's dead. I do see promise in Eric. He indeed has the
passion. But I thought to myself what my role in all this is" he
stopped for a small breath. "I have decided to go with him. I need
this for my own personal progression as well. To really find out what
i'm here for. Something has been guiding me, that's why I'm here now.
But I know not of where it is leading me. Something tells me I should
go with Eric and so I have decided to" Felistia nodded. "That sounds
good, i'm glad you're thinking about it. I haven't really thought
much about my fate, destiny, path or whatever. I'm just following
where life takes me" she said with a smile. "So i will not be here
for much longer. He intends to leave very soon. I hope that you have
a good time in the White Mage classes" as he said these words, his
memory of her had slowly begun to come back, and he smiled. "so this
is why I find myself so relaxed around her..." he thought.

<Eric knocks on the door>

"Hey, you there?" Eric asked.

The door opened, and Felistia spoke suddenly, "we've been expecting
you, Eric. It's nice to meet you, my name's Felistia Cestus, a
childhood friend of Incentus" she smiled as she spoke.

"Yes, we've been expecting you Eric. I gather you want to talk about
going to Mt. Ordeals?" Incentus stated. "I've decided to come"

Eric grinned. "Really? That's great!" he said. "It's nice to meet
you, Felista. I almost thought Incentus hardly knew anyone around
here."
"Um.." Eric broke off into thought. "Alright, I have the people
assigned. So we just need to be packed up and ready to go. I'll go
gather the supplies we'll need for the trip. You get ready to go,
and Chrissa and I will meet you out on the drawbridge." he then
turned off, stepping lightly enough to almost be skipping. Things
were about to get underway. He just needed to get some supplies, and
they'll be ready to go.

------------------------

Carasha's quill pen tapped impatiently on her desk, as she started
to figure out a way to begin writing.

*Dear Sister Taiga,

How are you? Are you keeping a watch over the other two? I've
arrived in Baron a few days ago. The reconstruction has been
proceeding well. Here's the big surprise, I'm actually staying at
the castle!
It started when I arrived here, I was camping out for the night,
when this man named Kluya attacked a dragoon nearby. I sent him
flying to the hills, of course, but that wasn't how I got accepted
into the castle. You know this is uncharacteristic of me to care
enough of the affairs of others, but I could tell this Kluya hadn't
given up, so I kept a watch out on the dragoon.
Then I followed her all the way to Toria, back to Baron, and then
on the road to Mist. That's when a storm came, and I was forced to
make myself known. I then found myself in an interesting circle of
people.
There's Mana, the dragoon I was following. She seems like a nice
person. I don't quite understand what the deal is with everyone
trying to kill her though. She's going to need to be watched over.
She's currently engaged to a man named Garret, but I'm not sure how
that's going since she's planning on leaving Baron.
I've also met the fearsome Golbez. He's not quite the evil man he
once was. Mind you, he's still scarier then anyone I've ever met,
but its more of a dark presence then an evil one, if that makes
sense at all. Right now, he's actually serving as a commander of
Baron's military forces. Let's just hope history doesn't repeat
itself.
I doubt that'll happen though, with Queen Rosa. She could hardly
ever be a dictator. She's a calm, friendly person, somewhat
depressed though. She has the right to be, since King Cecil has died
recently. A young man around here, Runic, seems to be taking a fancy
to her though.
And she is not the only royalty I have met. King Edward of Damcyan
is also here. He's charming and everything, but I'm not quite
thrilled. Maybe since he's reluctant to be with girls anyway. And
traveling with him was his captain, Chrissa, who also happened to be
a dragoon.
And also, wouldn't you know it, King Edge and Queen Rydia appeared!
I had never been so nervous in my life! Esspecially since I had
refused to be in the royal guard. How does one say "Nice to meet
you, sorry about turning down the job"? Course, they didn't even
know my name anyway, but that's me. But that's hardly the end of the
list of people I've met.
There's Eric, Chrissa's brother. He's not the brightest guy I've
met, but he's aspiring to be a paladin, like Cecil was. I hope he
does well. He's too nice, and ignorant, to die.
Now I know you're going to go crazy as soon as I mention that I've
also met two famous musicians. Ken and Ryuu, I forget what their
group name was, if they had one. They're certainly interesting.*

Carasha paused writing, wondering if it would be best to write the
truth of what she has seen to her sister.

*Ryuu has more energy then sugar could ever give our little sisters,
and goofs around a lot. But, a different mood comes over him when
he's alone at night (which doesn't mean I was spying on him!). He
talks to fire, and has conversations with them. A pyro whisperer? If
you ask me, fame drove him crazy.
As for Ken, I admit he had me dazzled, but he's just like any other
guy. He talks to you, he dances with you, then the next morning he
leaves.*

The ninja realized soon she spoke rather harshly of Ken, but she
resolved to herself that sentence would not be changed.

*I may be in the kingdom for a while. Although I am following Mana,
she's been injured lately, and thus is occupied here. I'm sending
you a stuffed tiger I was given at one of the festivities. Make sure
you, Eto, and Taki share it. I don't want to come home and find it
ripped to shreds.

- Your sister, Carasha

P.S. Don't tell dad I danced with Ken. You know how he'll get.*

Golbez was seriously beginning to become tired of being everyone's
beating-post. If not for Mana, he would've lashed out against the blatant
disrespect a long time ago.

Mana...

His thoughts came back to her and to Garret's cryptic comments the previous
night. What could he have meant? He thought back on the evening. There was
something not quite right. Mana had...

The robe.

Suddenly, it clicked. There was something in the robe. He'd felt the magic
when he put it on, but had thought little of it since it wasn't harmful to
him. What had she done?

"I am fine," he muttered, showing no signs of irritation, fear, or
frustration. All he put forth was the impenetrable calm that always
surrounded him.

If Mana were not in the picture, he decided, Garret would be the first to go.
Followed very quickly by Ken.

"There was something about the robe, wasn't there?" the sorcerer whispered,
just barely loud enough for Mana to hear.

Edge and Rydia rounded the corner and amid their cheerful chatter with
each other, almost ran into Eric.

"Hey, hey," Edge said, raising his eyebrows, "I think I've seen you
around here before. Where're you off to in such a hurry?"

Mana didn't answer Golbez's question. It would only have made him
worry more...

"Wheee!" Ryuu dove into the rather deep hot spring, causing a giant
wave to hit Ken and soak him completely.
"Must you do that everytime?" Ken asked as he entered the spring and
sat comfortably down.
"No but I like to. Ken are you feeling better yet?"
"Yes, I feel much, much better. I'll feel better once Golbez is out
of the picture."
"What's your issue with him now anyways? You and he are so much
alike. You probably would've been great friends under different
circumstances."
"It is because he is enough like me that I don't want him near Mana.
She had suffered enough. I don't want her to go through that again.
Besides, Golbez is unstable in my opinion. I don't want Mana near
him when he loses it."
Ryuu scooped up some water in his hand and squirted at Ken. "I
think...Golbez would be wonderful for Mana..."
"He's unstable and I think slightly obsessed."
"What did Amasa say to you?"
"Enough."
"When shall we go back?"
"It will be soon enough."

Rosa was slightly disturbed that the prisioners died in such a
strange manner but decided to let it slide because of the grief they
caused everyone.
Being Queen and trying to hold up morale was quite hard given late
events but Rosa was determined to work hard. She was sure Cecil
would've thought the same way. She wandered the gardens. Sometimes
she wondered if she was suffering from stress because every now and
then she thought she saw someone who looked a lot like Cecil and her
brother in law wandering the halls.
Speaking of Golbez, Rosa hoped that soon the people would come to
accept Golbez. He obviously wasn't evil but Rosa could not blame
them for past trauma...
She looked up and saw that Mana. Apparently the dragoon girl was
just waking up from her nap on the balcony. Rosa smiled. The girl
was lucky the person she loved was still alive and with her...
Suddenly Rosa's thought about Runic and blushed.
A scream woke up Rosa from her day dream. Mana had been pushed off
the balcony by a dark cloaked figure.
"Mana!" Rosa ran towards the scene with a float spell being prepared.
It wasn't necessary as someone jumped up and caught her.
"Thank you for saving her..." Rosa began but the figure, upon
hearing her voice suddenly stiffened and then disappeared with Mana.
"What the...?!" Rosa looked up and the cloaked man who had pushed
Mana off the balcony had disappeared as well.

Shortly after Eric left the room, Felistia beckoned Incentus to come
with her outside to relax and have a good time before heading off the
drawbridge. "It _will_ be great, Incentus, don't worry" she said,
with a wink. Incentus was of little resistance and so they headed out
to the castle gardens to relax in the cool shade and spend some good
time together. Although Incentus had no clue what was going to
happen...

"What are we going to do, exactly?" stated Incentus, a quirk look on
his face as he spoke and adressed Felistia. "You haven't had much
enjoyment lately have you, Incentus?, You decide, ok? I just wanna
see you happy for once" She replied, an innocent look on her face as
she smiled and captured Incentus' attention. "I, decide? and happy
for once? how dare you! I just don't smile much is all..." Incentus
stated, dawdling on the last few words. "Sure..." Felistia
chuckled. "What _are_ you suggesting, Felistia?" said
Incentus. "Nothing..." Felistia remarked. "Oh really..."
stated Incentus.

With that last statement Incentus ran over to Felistia, summoning a
weak fire spell, throwing it at Felistia. Barely missing, Felistia
exclaimed "Aaaggghhhh! What was that for!?" "Nothing..." said
Incentus. "You always were a temperamental fellow weren't you
Incentus?" replied Felistia. "I guess so" said Incentus, an innocent
look on his face. "Come here!" shouted Felistia. She ran over to
Incentus and jump tackled him. What followed was a typical power
struggle between Felistia and Incentus. Tossing and turning, dodging
and countering, they both had lots of fun. "I haven't had so much fun
in a while" thought Incentus, but with that he forgot to dodge and a
fist went smack dab in the middle of his face, knocking him
unconscious.

"Are you alright Incentus?" said Felistia, "Are you alright?" He
eventually woke up and when he opened his eyes, saw Felistia looking
straight back. "So good to see you awake again, Incentus" said
Felistia, giving him a big hug and... not. "I think we better get you
ready for the trip to Mt Ordeals" said Felistia. "Yeah, i think we
better too..." So they got up and headed off to Incentus bedroom
again. Incentus hadn't brought many things, and didn't need to take
much with him. Such was the beauty of adventuring. Though for some
reason he couldn't find his Oak Staff... But an ordinary staff had
been provided to him and was grateful for that. "Are you all set,
Incentus?" said Felistia. "Yeah, I have all I need" replied Incentus.

They headed out to the draw bridge, and there they waited.

(Barons Pub)

"Give me some ale.." Kerse said to the bartender as he sat down in
the darkest corner of the bar that he could find. Kerse just got
into Baron and didn't know much about the place. His armor was
stained with blood, cape torn, and gloves covered with dirt, but his
sword looked like as if he never used it. Kerse took off his gloves
when he was givin his glass of ale. The only people in the pub at
this time were 4 drunks sleeping at the tables. Kerse knew he was
well known in most towns as a traitor, but wasn't sure if the news
had traveled to Baron. He wasn't never worried about it thought
because the people who knew about him was affraid of him and what he
might do if they stood up to him. The bartender spent most of his
time staring down Kerse as if he was a familiar face to him. "Your
not from here, in fact you shouldnt be here at all." said the
bartender. Kerse looked up at the bartender with a blank look and
looked back down. "I will leave once I've finished my business here,
so get used to seeing my face till that day comes." The bartender
smirked "Well you better clean yourself up if you plan to spend your
time here, I don't need my customers all drunk thinking they can
beat the crap out of you and having fights every night." Kerse drank
the last of his ale and slid the glass to the bartender to refill
it. "I won't be here at night, too many people. Just during the day."

OOC: This wasn't how i wanted to start my character off at first but
since i havent started my character yet i decided to start it now.

The batender set the refilled glass in front of Kerse and leaned on
the counter. "So your Kerse huh? I thought you would be different."
Kerse kept staring down at his glass not realy interested in what
the bartender had to say. "So you have heard of me?" said
Kerse. "Yeah, but only stories, the discription is almost accurate
but some stories are not beleivable. The stories talk about how
strong you are and how sometimes you kill your own emploiers for
more money. The stories stopped once the Dragoon bounties started.
What happen to ya then?" Kerse took a drink from his ale and looked
back up at the bartender. "You beleive in what you want to beleive.
I do not discuss my past to anyone. The stories were made from
people who met me or people who hate me, but that don't mean every
bad thing they say about me isnt true. I have no regrets." The
bartender looked at Kerse puzzled. "The stories also say you don't
talk often. So why are you talkin now?" Kerse ignored the question,
stood up and paied for his drink. "I will be back once I get my
armor cleaned." The bartender picked up the money and waved. "Talk
to you later then." Kerse Ignored him and walked out into the
streets of Baron.

"Oh, excuse me!" Eric quickly gave a bow. "I'm just getting
supplies for the trek to Mt. Ordeals. Hopefully when I come back,
I'll be a paladin." he smiled with almost childish glee.

-------------------

"Oh hello." Chrissa smiled, coming out to the drawbridge, sighting
Incentus and Felistia. "You must be the black mage Eric asked to
come with us. I'm afraid we haven't been introduced." she smiled,
shaking his hand. "I'm Chrissa, Eric's sister. And you two are?"

-------------------

Upon hearing the scream, Carasha was quickly up and out of her
room. She ran down the hall quickly, down the stairs, and out to the
garden. "Your majesty, what happened?!" she asked quickly, when she
saw Rosa outside. "Was that Mana I heard?"

Garret sighed. Life was too complicated right now...
He decided to talk to Mana about something urgent so he went back to
where he left her only to find her no longer there. Mana was in no
condition to walk very far by herself and he wondered where she was.
He looked over the balcony and saw Carasha and Rosa.
"Hey guys, have you seen Mana?"

****

Amasa reappeared inside Baron town just outside the inn. Mana was
coughing violently again. He entered the inn rather quickly and told
the inn keeper he needed a private room.

"Right away Sir Golbez!" said the inn keeper surprised
for 'Golbez's' change in attire even if it didn't make him less
scary.

Amasa sighed. Cecil, Golbez...he really didn't care to correct the
man right now. He walked into the room and lay Mana down. She held
her chest trying to hold back something.

"Don't leave this building until someone comes for you. The castle's
security has been breached."

Mana nodded and Amasa dissapeared again.

The innkeeper peaked inside the room to see if 'Golbez' was gone. He
brought Mana something to drink to ease her pain and make her feel
better. "Lady Highwind, you really should not associate yourself
with types like Golbez."
Mana just weakly smiled.

****

Rosa was in slight shock. Who was that man? Was that Cecil? Why did
he not ...
Rosa shook her head out of her confusion and answered Carasha's
question.
"Yes, that was Mana and someone pushed her off the balcony....I
think I might be going crazy because someone saved her and he looked
like Cecil but Cecil can't jump like a dragoon...unless Kain has
been teaching him...but they're dead....what's...going on? And if it
isn't Cecil...Mana is with a stranger..."

"Hey guys have you seen Mana?"

Rosa looked up. It was Garret. "Someone pushed her off the balcony
and some stranger that looks like Cecil rescued her."

Garret jumped down from the balcony. "Good thing someone saved her,
she can't jump in her condition. I'll get some guards to find this
intruder who dares touches my fiancee..." Though the words sounded
strong, Garret's tone sounded uninterested in Mana's condition. When
he left, Rosa commented, "Is it me or is Garret acting a little
strange as of late?"

OOC: sorry for slow reply. school + work = no fun time
which I will correct doing the holidays as well as do much updating.

"He's been acting more than a little strange lately," Golbez said
calmly, walking up behind the two women, "He has attacked and
threatened myself several times in the recent days, something he has
never done before." The sorcerer frowned and looked over the edge of
the balcony. Where was she, he wondered to the sky, where was Mana?
If anything had happened to her...

The pendant hanging from around his neck briefly grew warmer, but
Golbez shook his head, clearing it of unwanted thoughts.

He pursed his lips and turned back to the two women. "Your Majesty,"
he addressed Rosa, "I'd like permission to have Garret put under
constant surveillance, magical or otherwise, possibly even house
arrest. I suspect he may be plotting treason."

*****

"A paladin?" Edge's grin was visible through his mask, "You've got
some big goals ahead, eh, kid?" The ninja ruffled Eric's hair
good-naturedly.

King and Queen shared a glance with each other. The recent blah of
court life was wearing on them and they wanted to get out for a while.
The Lantern Festival was an excuse for them to escape the court, and
they'd told the Regent that they would be away for a while. But now
that the Festival was finished, what could they possibly busy
themselves with doing?

"Looking for anyone to come with you?" the ninja grinned again, "or is
there not enough room for two old farts like --" Edge was cut short
by a very sharp jab to his ribs from Rydia's elbow.

Garret had alerted some guards to look for Mana and tell her to come
to him if they found her. Garret did not put much effort in
searching for Mana due to the fact he knew who had her. He pitched
up a hammock in one of the castle courtyards and lay in it swinging
from side to side with a satisfied smile on his face.
He would wait there for the rest of the day. He had a feeling Golbez
would hunt him down soon for answers. Garret found teasing Golbez
rather amusing. He loved to annoy the man as much as possible.

****

Amasa found Chrissa talking with people at the drawbridge. Putting
on an overly large cloak and hood, he walked up to the girl and
handed her a bag of coal.
"Please leave this at the summit of the mountain. It really does get
cold up there and *they* could use the comfort of fire.
Before Chrissa could ask anything else, Amasa disappeared.

****

Mana had wandered into the main rooms of the inn and sat down at a
table. She was rather hungry but didn't want to bother the innkeeper
for personalized service to her room. She felt like a prisoner. She
wanted to know who wanted her dead besides KluYa Harvey.
The innkeeper saw her at a table and asked a couple of his own
security guards to be stationed near her so no one would give her
trouble. The guards were more than happy to have a chance to talk to
a pretty girl who did appear to be with a date. Mana welcomed the
chance to casually talk to someone as the innkeeper brought her
something nice to eat.

****
"Treason...?" Rosa was slightly shocked. "Sure, Garret has been
acting a little strange but treason? That is a strong suspicion you
have there Golbez. Also, please call me Rosa. We are not in a formal
situation and you are my brother in law. Anyways do you have any
solid proof? I mean, Garret's service record in Baron has been quite
outstanding and I doubt people are willing to think that he of all
people would plot such a thing. But, you may do as you wish. I pray
you are wrong. If he is plotting treason, he isn't doing it alone.
House arrest will alert the enemy we are onto them..." Rosa sighed
and looked away for a brief second. She turned her gaze back and
looked directly at Golbez. "Are you sure this isn't a personal
grudge with him involving Mana? Anyways we have to find Mana. Some
man that looks like Cecil made off with her...I hope she is all
right where ever she is..."

Eric smirked, batting Edge away from his hair. "Aw c'mon. You guys
aren't too old... I hope not, I'm about the same age, even if I
don't look it." he smirked, then gave a bow. "If you want to come on
this adventure with me, your highnesses, I'll be honored. You can
meet the others out on the drawbridge, I gotta go get supplies. See
you there!" he rushed off quickly.

--------

"Wait!" Chrissa started, but the man was gone. She looked curiously
over the bag of coal, even inside to make sure it was indeed coal.
<... I know its not always wise to accept gifts from strangers...
But brother probably will forget...."> she reasoned to herself.
Anyway, the man did seem familar, even though his hood and cloak hid
his appearance.

--------

Carasha listened quietly. She did not know much about Garret
herself, having never paid any attention to him, but this new
information suddenly interested her. Garret as a possible treasonist?
Whatever. That wasn't important now. Rosa said that a man that
looked like Cecil made off with Mana, and Carasha knew who that was.
Now she just had to find him. He wouldn't stay in the castle, would
he? Not with the alarm raised. "Queen Rosa, I'll start looking for
her."
With that Carasha quickly disappeared from the two's company. She
didn't make her way out of the castle, however, until she got a good
look at Garret, who was lying on a hammock in a courtyard.
<Pathetic. That is pathetic. His fiancée is missing, and he's
lounging around.> she shook her head at the sight, then continued
out of the castle. <Jeez, Golbez almost looks like a better match
for Mana at this rate.>

The well worn trail led straight to the kingdom of Baron, the most
powerful nation the world had ever known. Upon that trail she rode,
atop a chocobo she had known almost her entire sixty three years of
life. Her hair was hidden behind her blackened headpiece with silver
flames embroidered upon it. Her robe was made in the same fashion,
black with silver flames around it's edges, rippling in the slight
breeze. "Rydia." She whispered to herself, that name constantly
upon her mind for the past two weeks. "A summoner more powerful than
myself, yet so young. I must see this prodigy for myself, see if the
traveler's words were indeed true." She continued to say, though
only her summoned mount would hear these words. She could see the
castle in the distance now, it wouldn't be long. Tilanya Silvanas
thought back to when she met her for the first time, when Rydia was
no more than a newborn within her mother's arms. A tuft of green
hair sticking out from her tiny hood, blue eyes filled with
innocence. At the time Tilanya, one of the elders in the village
mist, didn't see anything remarkable about the babe. But since after
the devestation that tore her home town apart, she had cut off all
ties with the entire world, save for a merchant who sold her needed
supplies. Now, rumor by a lost bard who stumbled upon her home said
that she had mastered ancient summons never before called upon.
Tilanya had been studying the arcane arts for over half a century,
and although extremely powerful in her own right, she could not lay
claim to the creatures said to be under Rydia's control. Now past
the gates to the city, she continued the jorney towards the castle,
where her merchant said that Rydia was. Some festival had brought
her here he had said, so what better time to meet her once again, and
see how powerful the young woman was.

((Permission Given to those outside the castle to see her ride up.
She is a tall 6'5", without her headpiece. Her robes are discribed
above, the best way to discribe her the rest of the way is a slightly
older Malificent, the evil witch from Sleeping Beauty.))

(Streets of Baron)

Kerse walked out of the Armor Shop, with his armor cleaned, when he
noticed that more soilders where wandering the streets asking
questions. <What are they doing? Have they found out that I was in
town?...I better not stay here for long.> Two of the soilders saw
Kerse and started to walk towards him. Kerse started walking the
opposite direction to avoid them as much as possible. The soilders
finaly caught up to him. "Sir, we have som... " Kerse clinched him
fist and quickly turned around, hitting one of them with his
forearm. He then grabbed the other one and tossed him into a
building, knocking him out cold. "Hold it right there!! Your under
arrest!" Kerse turned around and saw more soilders running up to
him. He started running through the ally ways with one hand on his
sheath and one on the hilt of his sword looking for a place to hide.
He then stopped at the end of an ally and looked around to see where
he was when suddenly a soilder jumped in front of him with his spear
in Kerse's face. Kerse then took out his sword and knocked the spear
out of the soilders hand and elbowed him in the face. Kerse was
getting frusturated. He had only been there for about an hour and
already he was wanted. Kerse then noticed the Inn at the end of the
and darted towards it. Before he could get there, he was surrounded
by around eleven gaurds. He wasn't ready to give up though. He stood
motionless waiting for them to make there first move.

Amasa was walking back towards the inn when he saw the commotion
with Kerse. He decided not to be idle this time around.
Upon removing his hood he said, "What seems to be the problem here?"
in a very Golbez like manner, using his voice that wasn't all that
different from Golbez's if it was at all different.
"Sir! We were about to question him and he started attacking and..."
Amasa looked at Kerse for a moment and then turned his attention
back to the guards. "I will handle this. You all should get back to
your posts."
"Yes sir!" The soldiers saluted and cautiously went back to their
previous tasks.
When they were all gone Amasa led Kerse into the inn to where Mana
was sitting chatting with some of the security personnel.
She got up suddenly. "Oh! You're back and who is this with you?"
Amasa pulled out a chair for Kerse as the two guards went grudgingly
back to their previous tasks.
"Just some guy who seems to like fighting with the soldiers
outside," Amasa said casually. "One should have more care in who
they fight considering this is a militarily based country," he said
to Kerse.

(Inn)

Kerse looked at the puzzle by their welcome when they didn't even
know him."I've been in those situations before and escaped. Who are
you people? Why did you help me?" Kerse stood behind the chair, not
sure if he wanted to sit down.

(OOC: Not sure whatelse to say.)

Amasa sat down, requested a menu and ordered a light snack.
"That may be true but you must agree that fighting constantly is not
a pleasurable past time unless you are a masochist. Besides, I do a
lot of things on a whim."
Mana giggled and held out her hand to Kerse for a friendly hand
shake. "How do you do Sir? My name is Mana. Pleased to meet you. I
hope the guards didn't give you too much trouble. They are just
worried that something like Ragnorok will happen. Please sit down
and join us for dinner," she said taking a brief glance at the
window, noticing it would not be long before sunset.
"So what brings you to Baron?" asked Mana, hoping the stranger would
trust them enough to sit down and relax for a bit.

Kerse gave a grim look to Amasa for what he said was somewhat to an
insult to him, but ignored it once Mana started speaking.Kerse just
nodded to Mana. He took his gloves off and tucked them in his belt
and sat down stiffly. Before the waitress left Kerse included that
he would like something strong to drink. "I'm a mercenary for hire.
I came here looking for a job, but I doubt I'll find one here. So
for now I'm on my break." Kerse looked at Amasa. "You must be a
military leader of some sort? Not many men can walk around giving
orders to gaurds like you did."

Amasa laughed.
Mana looked at him and she wondered if Golbez would look the same if
he laughed.
"Yes, I used to be part of the military. I left the military a long
time ago. I had some personal business to attend to. The guards
mistaken me for my relative so that is why they left without much
protest."
Mana wondered how much more she could learn about Amasa sitting here
with him. 'So he took a military job too...I wonder what his
business is here exactly? Is it revenge against Golbez?'
Mana took a sip of her drink and kept smiling towards Kerse in hopes
of making him feel more at home and comfortable.
"Well I am sure you'll find enough paying jobs here in Baron. We are
short of personnel as of late."
Amasa slowly ate and played with his food with his fork as he
observed Mana and Kerse. "Well, being as it is, Baron will be short
of military personnel for a while. This country did lose a lot of
the population in a short time."
Mana nodded slowly. "So Sir Mercenary, do you have a name we can
address you by?"

Kerse took a drink out of his cup and began to relax. "My name is
Kerse Goridon."He took another drink, his glass was already halfway
empty. "Would of you know someone who would need help? I'm usualy
used for my combat skills but I guess with my strength, hard labor
will be fine aswell." Kerse leaned back in his chair and rubbed the
stubble of his beard that was growing. "So,Mana, whats your story?
Why are you here?"

"That's a nice name you have Kerse. Actually," Mana pointed to
Amasa. "He brought me here I guess to hide. Someone tried to push me
off a balcony to a bloody death."
Amasa's expression darkened considerably. "I'll find out who soon
and they will pay!"
Mana just kept on smiling. "There are lots of people that need help
these days. It seems someone likes to cause people harm. Although I
may not look like it, I was a former military commander. I decided
to take a long leave of absence for personal reasons. So how much do
you charge for your services? I am sure you can find much work here
as everyone needs help with something. Just don't come off as too
suspicious. People might take it the wrong way here."
