Rosa turned as she heard Chrissa call her by their special nickname.

<"Rose, you okay?">

"Of course I am okay. I am just a little tired."

Rosa smiled at Chrissa encouragingly. She couldn't tell her friend
the truth. This was her burden to bare, her cross.

'I can't accept help from anyone...not even you...'

<"I realize its getting a bit crazy in there.. You okay?">

"It's just all the excitement. We had a long day. I haven't had so
much fun in a long time. I think I might be out of shape a little
bit."

Rosa looked down at her skinny arms, her robes that seemed to hang
off her skin.

"Well, maybe I need to gain a little weight."

Rosa laughed trying to lighten the mood. She didn't need a babysitter.

"Did you want to go talk somewhere or something. I was going to get
ready for bed, but I don't mind the company. It gets lonely sometimes
as a queen with no king..."

*soft smile*

: : Thinking... : :
http://www.oocities.org/thelifestreamrpg/music/sf1/data.mid : :

After Runic left the Inn he stopped by the item shop to pick up a
few things for his journey. It was unpredictable what could happen
on his way to Baron at this hour, not to mention what has been
happening lately. While looking around a familiar voice was heard
from behind him.

"Planning on going alone?"
"...Alex," he said turning around, "I thought you didn't want to
have any part in this..."
"Well, I was laying in bed, and I just couldn't go to sleep. I was
thinking that it would be selfish of me, and especially immoral of
me if I were to sit back and let whatever is going to happen happen.
Afterall, I am the Commander of Fabul's Militia and we are
supporting Baron."
Runic smiled, running his hand through his hair. "Well what were you
thinking?"
"Well I don't really have any idea's yet, but I think we should
definitly take that letter to the Queen. We need to make allies
before we do anything else. Right now we're pretty much lost."
Runic and Alex finished gathering supplies and headed towards Baron.

"It's a good thing Baron is walking distance from here," Alex said
staring up at the stars in the sky, "The moon is full and bright
tonight, we will have no trouble seeing." Runic looked over at Alex
then up at the stars. He thought a little about the Queen. Though he
had met with her more than a few times, each were very breif and
ended with somebody calling her to some other business, but after
all she is the Queen and has many duties to fulfill.

Chrissa laughed lightly at Rosa's joke, but she still couldn't help
but feel sorry for the queen.
Well, she was still gonna be there for her friend. "Well, yes, if you
don't mind... You can tell me if there is something bothering you."
she said.
Immediately she felt bad though. Edward had told her there had been
an attack on Baron, and that Rosa shouldn't know. How could she ask
the queen to tell her anything since she was keeping this secret?

---------------

Edward sighed, retiring to his room. That Ryuu was quite energetic.
But what about that Ken? Must have lost someone to Golbez as well,
with the hatred that the man seemed to show the dark sorceror.
"Too much is going on.." The Damcyan king sighed, retiring to his
room.

---------------

<Baron people are crazy..> Carasha thought to herself. Lurking
outside the manor, she had had heard two people talking outside, and
while hiding, heard the last half of their conversation. None of it
made sense to her, but she one part caught her attention well.

> "Ryuu, you and Ken came back...that means...we're in more trouble
doesn't it? <

Not that she didn't notice that Baron was already to it's neck in
trouble, but Carasha was interested in knowing these people also
seemed to have some clue of what was going on.
Later the one man retired. Carasha was about to continue to keep
watch on anyone else showing up, when suddenly the red-head started
talking to himself. Or the fire. Still, this started to creep Carasha
out.
Soon the red-head had also went back into the manor. After a few
moments to make sure he wasn't coming back out, Carasha went over to
the fire, wondering what he was talking about. It was like he was
having a conversation, but with whom? She used her foot to shuffle
through some of the ashes.
<... I wonder if the invaders of the castle are already here..?> she
thought to herself.

Mana looked at Baron Castle with utmost shock the following morning.
A small section was charred.
Garret scratched the back of his head. "Well you see...I got hungry
and I didn't know about the stove being remodeled and..."
"GARRET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Mana flung herself and started to choke
Garret in a Homer Simpson fashion while bashing his head on the
ground while doing so.
"We leave for one night and this is what happens to the castle? One
freaking night and you almost blew it up??!!"
"I--was...[gag] really [hack] h-[choke]hungry!"
"And you couldn't wait until we got back from our trip?"
Ryuu just watched the scene with slight amusement. "Eh heh heh..."
Ken just surveyed the area and the damage done to the castle. "It
wasn't just fire..." he said to himself. There was evidence that a
strong Lit spell was cast. He turned a narrow and suspicious glance
to Golbez since he was the only one in the present group that had
strong Black Magic ability. He didn't say anything about it and just
walked towards the castle ahead of everyone else.

BTW: Good music Foxy!

bic: Rosa and Chrissa went to Rosa's room to talk. They stayed up for
a few hours just gabbing about girly stuff. Then, they both fell
asleep on Rosa's bed. It was one of the best nights the queen had in
a long while. The new day came too quickly and the group left to go
to Baron.

=======

Rosa looked at her castle. One section was burned off. Mana was too
busy choking Garret who seemed to be the cause of the huge mess.
Something about the stove being re-modeled.

"I can't believe this mess..." *said in a whisper*

Rosa walked about the rumble picking up bits and pieces of her castle.

'Always setbacks in life, huh?'

She didn't fanthom that the mess was a result of something
more...something bigger...

"Fighting won't get this mess cleaned. It's okay Garret. It's not
going to be that much of a trouble to fix. I am just glad that no one
was injuryed."

The hem of her dress was turning black from the burnt parts of the
castle.

"I'll even help you all clean this up. This is my home afterall and
we can't leave it like this!"

The group had followed Rosa and Ken into the castle. <Stove?>
Chrissa thought, looking around the damage of the castle. She
supposed that was the best excuse Garret could come up with, so she
didn't say anything. The captain started shifting through some of the
rubble, and found a piece of a broken bottle. <.. Must have been a
molotov..> she started trying to figure this out. Who would be
attacking Baron? Why?
"Yes.. Glad no one was injured.." Edward repeated after Rosa, a
little uncertainly. Glancing over at Garret, the king wondered which
white mage had healed the dragoon, since they had seemed to have done
a quick and thorough job.
Chrissa quickly started to pick up anything she saw that might
identify the scene to be an attack.

---------------------

Carasha had quite the decision when the group had left for the
castle. Should she keep a watch on the mansion, which had been
threatened for attack? Or watch the royalty, which had the odd red-
head with them?
Well, it was daytime, and there were several dozen soldiers inside
the mansion, so Carasha decided to watch the people going to the
castle. She kept her distance from the group, just watching them.
Mostly watching Ryuu, whom seemed to act different in public then he
did that night she saw him.

Runic and Alex had arrived in Baron just as the sun had began to
peak over the mountains & trees. They were a little tired from the
journey, afterall they did walk the entire time. The castle was a
bit too dangerous to consider resting at, so they made a small camp
about ten minutes away from Baron's Castle. Alex had started a fire
and gathered some wild fruit while Runic set up their tents. After
setting up their camp they both took a few hours to rest before they
went to Baron.

"Hey wake up," Alex said, shaking him, "Get up lazy, we need to go."
Runic sat up, pushing Alex over away from him. Alex laughed as he
fell, then got up and out of his tent. Runic got up and got dressed.
He put on his gear and stept out of his tent. Alex was cooking
something over the fire.
"What do you got there?" Runic asked smiling and rubbing his hands
together. The morning air was cold.
"Some fruit I gathered and some fish I bought in town."
After Alex had finished cooking and finished their meals, they took
what gear they needed and headed to Baron.
"It will only take minutes to get there," Alex said pointing in the
direction of a very faint looking castle.

Garret let out a sigh of relief when it seemed like Rosa bought his
lame last minute excuse. Mana had stopped choking him.
"Tell me the whole truth when everything settles down and we're safe
from prying ears..." she whispered to him before following Rosa.
"Don't worry Rosa, this mess will be cleaned up in no time at all!"
Mana said with a smile while beginning to cast a Float spell to lift
up some of the heavier rubble.
Ryuu helped too while dancing, prancing and jumping around while
singing making himself look like a moron oblivious to the world.
Soon the mess was cleaned and it looked like the castle had not been
attacked at all.
Afterwards Mana went into the main library and was reading some
strange book while making some
notes. "Fire...sacrifice...murder...holy..." were some of the words
she wrote down while reading the strange book. Ken stood outside the
library occassionaly looking in and observing the dragoon girl.
Ryuu spent his free time skipping in the halls while singing or
humming softly. "Cry for the sun because I can't see anything...."
Garret tried to stay out of trouble but kept his eye on Golbez from
the shadows. He didn't want the man getting too close or finding out
what he was up to.
Ken decided to walk in on Mana. "What are you doing?"
Mana quickly closed the book and tried to hide it. "Um just some
last minute studying...I haven't read anything for a while so I
thought I would catch up on that."
"I see."
"I wanted to ask you, did you know K-chan?"
"Everyone knew Kain."
"That's not what I meant. Did you know him as a friend?"
"Yes, I knew Kain, from a long time ago."
"Were you guys good friends?"
"I guess."
"I don't remember him ever mentioning your name," Mana wanted to
know as much as possible.
Ken didn't like the way the questioning was going. "Everyone has
their own circle of friends..." He quickly left the library for fear
he would be asked a question he couldn't evade.
Mana sighed and went back to her "studying" and fell asleep at the
desk.

"That Ryuu certainly is energetic.." Edward smirked, watching the
man skipping and prancing through the halls.
"... I don't know if thats the word I would use, but thats very
true." Chrissa chuckled. Then she got serious very quickly. ".. I got
a question, did these attackers know about the queen leaving the
castle?"
Edward shook his head. "We never questioned them as far as I know.
All the attackers were either killed or ran off. It's possible, but
its hard to tell."
".... But why would anyone be attacking Baron?" she sighed.
"I'm not sure, but tactically thinking, this would be one of the
best times for an army to invade, seeing as they're still under
recontruction." Edward sighed. "It would have been easier had they
started a little sooner, but, maybe it took them a while to get
here..."
"What do you mean by that?" Chrissa rose an eyebrow.
".. These attackers seemed to be ninjas. While I'm not going to
start pointing fingers at King Edge or Eblan, I would guess they're
from the area."
"....... There has been a ninja around recently. I ran into one in
the market... literally. Huge temper, definitely from Eblan."
"I don't like the way things are looking." Edward shook his head.

----------------------

Carasha had crept up to the castle, looking through windows to keep
an eye on the people in there. Always keeping an eye out for any
guards, she mostly watched the prancing red-head. He was acting
NOTHING like he did last night. Maybe she somehow misunderstood the
situation?
Not likely.

Rosa blushed as she saw Mana cleaning up the mess by using a Float

'I do things the old-fashioned ay, huh?'

She continued to work and even laughed a bit when she saw Ryuu
dancing about the mess thinking he was really helping them clean up.
They were done in no time, and Rosa entered the castle to wash her
hands and get some water. She was feeling faint again.

'I need to eat something.'

She washed her hands and took an apple from a bowl. She bit into it
and allowed the juices to also quench her thirst for the time being.
She didn't feel like getting a glass of water.

'I guess I should wash up soon. I seem to get messy easily.'

Her dress was dusty from the rumble and she felt like she had the
whole queen job wrong.

Subject:  We're back - Current standings of the villains

Sorry for the long delay. I hope everyone had a nice Holiday and got
what they wanted (mumble...lump of coal....)
Anyway....here are the current standings of the villains. Please
feel free to be more aggressive with your characters and not be
afraid to confront them.

Morryigan : This is the lady that started the mess in the last
chapter by kidnapping Rosa and selling her off to slavery and
causing tension between Baron and the dragoons. Of course her plans
were foiled since Rosa set herself free and Kain, the dragoons and
Cecil came to a truce. Of course this is irritates Morryigan seeing
how she was foiled and she has a strong work ethic and pride. The
people of Baron will not get away. So the question is, who is her
current employer that wants Baron dead?
She is also aided by Oscar (minor character)- her partner in crime
so to speak.

Mana Highwind: She is Kain's adopted sister who has trouble staying
dead. Her loyalties are first to Kain and everyone else second. She
is engaged to Garret Fuma. Currently she is doing everything in her
power to keep Rosa happy and ignorant while doing mysterious
research. Even though she is a dragoon with holy elemental power she
is also a berserker with a tendancy for bloodlust. Since her brother
was killed by his best friend, no one knows where her true loyalties
lie and what she plans to do to Baron.

Garret Fuma: Half demon who was killed by Golbez in the future. A
very cocky and troublesome individual with a big appetite. He has
strong negative feelings towards Golbez but does not do anything
(that anyone knows of) to him since he is now an officer of Baron.
In fact he even protects/defends Golbez if it is of benefit to Baron.
Garret is very protective of the dragoons and Mana and wants nothing
but their happiness. He as no living family and considers the
Highwind family as his only living "family". Garret seems to know
something about Ryuu and Ken...

Ken Alexander: Idol guitarist. Very stern and anti social. Seems to
know Mana and Garret. He hates Golbez for some unknown reason - most
likely Golbez caused him some kind of suffering. He is Ryuu's
partner and has been living near Toroia with him. He used to live in
Baron but left due to an unfortunate incident. He also suffers from
post traumatic stress from an unknown source....

Ryuu Fidel: Idol singer from Toroia and also a big fan of Edward.
Very spacy, energetic and fruity. Loves to sing and flirt. Acts like
a loon most of the time. Was discovered to have a completely
different personality one night by Carasha. Alter ego is confident
and sly. Unknown what his plans are for the heroes...

KluYa: Unknown why he is a bad guy as of now.....(surprise for later)

That is the villain summary. Please feel free to post any questions
here and I will answer. The RPG will start sometime next week when I
post for my characters. Anything else you need to know? Post it
here. I will be looking for new fan art to post here as well. Please
feel free to submit your own art!

OOC: long post to make up for long RPG holiday - enjoy!

Ryuu watched from the shadows as Ken left the library where Mana was
studying. "....."
Humming softly, he walked into the library and took a look at what
Mana was studying.
"Oh ho ho! What is this?" Ryuu sat on the desk and read the notes
and opened the book that they
were taken from. "You shouldn't mess with magic that you have no
idea how to control and you especially should not engage in magic
that is not of your element." Ryuu patted Mana on the head
gently. "Poor girl, working so hard to make everyone happy.
Unfortunately your end goal will be in vain." The idol singer looked
at the notes again. "You really should enlist the help of Golbez
with this but since this concerns him you don't want to..." Ryuu
hopped off the desk and put the notes down. "You and I are the same.
We are not what we appear to be. We are both liars...."
***
Ken noticed Rosa and observed her for a moment. He then decided to
get her a glass of water and a hot wash cloth. Ever so quietly he
approached her. "Queen Rosa, are you feeling well? Would you like a
drink?" he held out a glass of water to her while still holding onto
the bowl with the hot wash cloth. "You should not over work
yourself if you are not feeling well. Do not worry about anything.
The knights are here for you and will take care of it. There is no
more danger to Baron. You have my assurance in this matter."
***
Garret sighed heavily. Life for him was going to get more
complicated. He overheard what Ken had said to Rosa and was
observing them from across the hall. 'Rosa must be really tired. I
hope she will be okay in the end.' Garret decided to check in on
Mana when he ran into Ryuu who was just exiting the library.
"....we are both liars...."
Ryuu bumped into Garret and smiled.
"All of us are liars," Garret corrected.
Ryuu still had the same smile on his face. "Lying to keep a front of
happiness. We've been doing it for a long time now haven't we?"
"Yeah...."
"We're all condemned...." Ryuu said before walking off.
Garret leaned against the wall for a second as he tried to regain
his composure. He walked up and sat beside Mana. He held her hand in
his and squeezed it gently. "Are we going to hell? Is it a sin for
us to be alive?"
***
THE NEXT DAY ...
***
Ryuu called everyone into the main room and had a big smile on his
face. "Guess what everyone! I got a great idea!"
Garret held his head and groaned. 'Ryuu + "great idea" = headache
for me' was the equation forming in his head.
Mana had a bright smile on her face. Ken's face was expressionless.
"So what is this great idea of yours Ryuu?" asked Garret.
"We all go on an adventure!"
Garret gave Ryuu a narrow glance. "Adventure?"
Ryuu nodded enthusiastically. "Yup yup! Come on! It will be fun and
a great chance to get to know each other better! Come on what do you
say? I know just the place we can go...."

Chrissa was silent, hearing Ryuu's idea. An adventure? Is that a
wise idea with the fact that Baron was under an attack.
Then again, Ryuu wouldn't know that. Not even Rosa was to know there
was an attack. Maybe it would be best to get the queen away from the
castle for now, while the other soldiers go over the situation.
"I want to go an adventure!" Eric stuck his head in the door.
"Eric, I thought you were back at the manor?" Chrissa sighed.
"Hey, I'm not gonna get stuck behind with everyone else!" he went
and sat down nearby.
Edward nodded. "It seems like a sound idea." he said. "We'll be able
to take in some fresh air."
"I agree." Chrissa finally said.

Carasha, in the meanwhile, fell asleep in the tree she was spying
from, but a ninja always sleeps with one eye open.

"I am not so certain this is a good idea," Golbez said
sternly, "It is my duty as Baron's military commander
to protect the Queen and this land. If Rosa leaves
here, she will be more vulnerable to assassins and
other enemies of this country. Moreover, if the
soldiers do not see their Queen -- the woman they

His unrelenting gaze fixed upon Ryuu. "You may be

of high alert. Until we can determine the party or
parties responsible, the country will remain so."

"This is no time for an adventure," he continued,

<"Queen Rosa, are you feeling well? Would you like a drink?">

Rosa looked up surprised to see the stern face of Ken breaking out
into an expression of concern. He held out a glass of water which
Rosa took eagerly enough. She drank it down as slowly as possible,
and then set the empty glass down. Ken also had a warm wash cloth for
her.

<"You should not over work yourself if you are not feeling well. Do
not worry about anything. The knights are here for you and will take
care of it. There is no more danger to Baron. You have my assurance
in this matter.">

Rosa quirked an eyebrow at Ken.

"I assure you, kind sir, that I am just fine. I am not overworked,
and I, as queen, will make sure there is no more danger to Baron. It
is not a concern of yours, but I thank you for thinking about our
welfare."

She stood regally and prepared to leave. Rosa didn't want to admit
that it irked her that Ken was sticking his nose into her kingdom's
affairs. However, she refused to be rude to him.

*gently turning*

"And I thank you for the water and wash cloth."

She smiled and left the room heading for her personal chambers.

'This warm cloth will feel good on my forehead. Maybe I will finally
get some sleep...'

---------

*Next Day*

Rosa awoke feeling refreshed. She called her maids to attend to her
toilette (sp?).

"I must have over slept! I am so late for breakfest. Have the others
already gathered?"

"Yes m'lady. They didn't want me to awaken you...they wanted you to
rest peacefully as long as possible."

Rosa didn't mind. The extra sleep was divine, heavenly almost. She
exited her room with her long pale blonde hair tied in a brade behind
her back. She wore a white dress with gold trimming around the
collar, end of her arms, in the middle of the dress, and down near
the hem. Across her waist were golden loops chained together.

'This is going to be a great day...'

She made her way to the parlor where she assumed everyone would be
enjoying a cup of tea after brunch. The door was ajar, and before
Rosa could enter she overheard something that made her throat
constrict.

<"...as a result of the recent attack on this castle, I have placed
Baron in a state of high alert. Until we can determine the party or
parties responsible, the country will remain so.">

'Recent...attack...?'

Rosa began to feel faint. She braced herself against the wall.

'Why wasn't I alerted? When did this happen?'

She didn't hear anything else Golbez said because she began to piece
two and two together.

'That mess...it wasn't from Garret...was it...? They lied to me...'

"Hmm?" Ryuu tilted his head. "This castle was under attack? I
thought it was Garret who made the stove explode?"
Upon seeing Golbez's gaze, Ryuu ran and hid behind Ken, wrapping his
arms very tightly around Ken's neck.
"Scary!!" he cried. When no one else was looking, he flashed Golbez
a smiliar look that had a hint of a challenge. He also gave the man
a smirk that said : Don't interfere with me or you'll regret it....
Ken's face remained expressionless and his gaze was lowered as he
set his cup down on the table. "Garret is careless and stupid..."
"HEY! I resent that!"
"...but he is not THAT stupid," Ken continued on as if he wasn't
interupted. "What he did was probably a ruse to keep Queen Rosa
ignorant for her well being. Am I right?"
Garret scratched the back of his head. "Yeah...well I don't want
Rosa to be worried or sad anymore. You all seen her before right? I
can stand it when someone I care about is that sad for that long.
She was finally close to being really happy again and some jerk
comes and decides to set the castle on fire. And you..." Garret
pointed his finger accusingly at Golbez. "Keep yer flapping trap
shut!"
"Garret!" Mana was slightly shocked at Garret's language.
"I thought you had more sense then to mention the attack. What if
Rosa came down when you said all that? What if she overheard?"
Mana finished her drink and poured herself some more. "Yeah that
would be ironic..."
Garret stood up and paced back and forth. "She would be more
worried! In my opinion, her health, mental and physical, are more
important than this country which is still in the rebuilding stages."
"Garret..." Mana was moved.
Garret stopped pacing around and sat back down in his chair. "If
Rosa has to stay here all the time, it's like keeping her in a cage.
Well that's how I feel anyway. It maybe stupid but that's the truth."
There was a slight awkward silence.
Mana set down her cup and looked at everyone. "I don't want to be
here anymore. I just want to escape..." she held her head. "I am so
tired of this place right now. There is too much negative energy
here. I feel like if I stay here any longer I am going to die a slow
and painful death. I want to go on your adventure Ryuu...It's
selfish of me I know but I don't want to deal with all of this
now..."
Ken looked at Mana with concern.
Ryuu smiled. "Don't worry! You won't regret coming on an adventure
with me! I'll make sure everyone is happy again!"
Garret gripped his cup so hard, it started to crack. 'I don't think
this idiot gets it...'
"But what Golbez says is right. The newer soldiers need to see Rosa
here. The older ones understand but I don't think the newer ones
would. But I think that Rosa should not be here. The enemy expects
her to be here. I think that is why they targeted the castle in the
first place."
Ryuu nodded enthusiastically. "That's right! And it's not like we
are travelling with a huge flashy banner saying: Yo! Queen Rosa is
right here for easy killing! We will be travelling descretely.
Besides...." Ryuu's voice suddenly changed tone. "We are going to
need White and Black Magic specialists to come with us." He looked
at Golbez and smiled.
"Eh? Why is that?" asked Mana not picking up on the undertone
meaning.
Ryuu just smiled.
Garret sighed. "But if people need to see Rosa, how can she go on
this trip? And if you need a Black magic specialist doesn't that
imply Golbez? Is it wise for him to leave Baron? He's the military
commander afterall. All of us can't just pick up and leave."
Ryuu looked at Garret and waved him off. "You don't have to go. It's
not like I need to get to know you better!" he said with a jest air
of snobbery.
"WHAT DID YOU SAY?!" the cup in Garret's hand shattered and he dove
at Ryuu, tackling him to the ground.
Ken stood up and sat down somewhere else as Ryuu and Garret were
brawling on the ground. "If Golbez goes then I will stay behind. I
know enough about military procedures and I am quite confident I can
handle his job for a while. Besides, I don't need to get to know
anyone better nor do I want to."
"How do you know about military procedures? Were you in an army
once? Before you became a guitarist?" asked Mana.
"Yeah....something like that."
"Then all we got to do is solve the problem of Rosa being visable.
If she decides to go on this trip with us that is..."
Ken then decided to pry Ryuu and Garret apart.
They both stopped struggling and Ryuu raised his hand. "I got an
idea!" Ryuu looked at Garret, pulled out something and started
chanting.
"H-hey! What are you doing?"
"Light Illusion!"
Everyone blinked many times over. Instead of Garret, Ken was holding
Rosa?!
"What the-?" Mana stood up suddenly.
Ken dropped "Rosa" in shock.
"Oww! Geez!" "Rosa" said.
"He looks exactly like Rosa!" Mana said. "If his voice didn't sound
the same I would swear that he was Rosa!"
Ryuu smiled at his handiwork as Ken put him down as well. "I can
make him sound like Rosa later if you want. Anyway, if Rosa decides
to come along we don't have to worry about soldier morale. Miss
Garret can take care of that. 'She' can also deal with the potential
killers."
"Hey you! Are you trying to get me killed?" asked Garret.
Ryuu gave him a narrow gaze. "You or Rosa? Which do you prefer?"
Garret sighed. "Yeah you got a point. If this keeps Rosa safe I
don't mind at all."
Ryuu turned to everyone and smiled. "So who is coming along?
Golbez....I sincerely hope you come along. It would be interesting,"
he said with a sly smile that only Golbez saw.
"I wonder where Rosa is?" asked Mana. "Didn't a maid tell her about
this meeting?"
"Well it's a good thing she wasn't here for the early part of it or
else she would've found out about the attack," said Garret.

"And if I don't come along, then what?" Golbez
challenged Ryuu. These people were foolish. Rosa's
entire job was to worry about the city and the lands
she commanded. If she didn't worry about it, Baron
would fall apart.

Why do I have such fierce loyalty to this country? he
wondered silently, Is it simply to pay respects to my
brother? Or is it from the time Zemus had his spell
on me? The mage shook his head and cleared his
thoughts.

"A word, Garret," Golbez took Garret aside, out of
earshot of the others.

"You may not particularly like me but I know that you
can be trusted to keep this land safe. I am going to
humor this fool." He pressed a pair of gleaming
crystals into Garret's hand. "These are a special
warp stone I created. They are both halves of a
matched set. I will carry one match and I will give
the other to Rosa. If anything happens here that
requires our attention, contact us immediately and
these will enable us to return here. That is an
order. Understood?"

In the realm of Black Magic, Golbez was supreme. Even
the Mysidians agreed on this. Golbez likely had more
black magic in his small toe than most of the rest of
the world's black wizards combined. If anything
happened, his retribution would be swift and terrible.

He waited for Garret's response.

Eric gave a slight nod, as if confirming something. ~So the castle
was attacked... The other soldiers were saying something about it..~
he thought to himself.
Chrissa sighed. She had known Rosa long before she was queen. So
much responsiblity seemed to be piled on Rosa and Cecil after the
defeat of Zeromus, and now all the responsiblity for the throne, the
land, and all its people were dumped on Rosa.
And just as Rosa was getting over the trama of the loss of Cecil,
this war had to start. If Rosa caught wind of the war, things may
really get bad. "You know, I was just thinking.." Chrissa
started. "Maybe after this trip, it might be best to have the queen
stay elsewhere, like at a different castle or something, until this
is over. I mean, we got a new Rosa, right?"
"That won't work.." Edward shook his head. "Garret's disguise isn't
perfect, and it won't do for a long period of time."
Chrissa sighed. ".. I guess. I'll be right back, I'm going to check
up on Rosa.." she got up, heading out the door, surprised to see...
"ROSA!" Chrissa started in surprise. "I--I was just going to look
for you."

Edward almost cringed when he heard Chrissa call out. Rosa was just
outside the door? Hopefully she hadn't overheard anything!

After speaking with Garret, Golbez returned to the
main room just in time to hear Chrissa's comment. He
shook his head.

"Rosa, despite being Queen, should not be shielded
from her duty," he said ominously, "She has a
responsibility to this land as its Queen, just as I
have a responsibility as its military commander. She
needs to stand strong and proud for her people."

Rosa couldn't get over the shock of being lied to. Her pale hands
trembled and her eyes clouded over with a slight mist of tears.

'It is my responsiblity to watch out for Baron's well being. How dare
they keep this secret from me! I love this land...the people...it
keeps me going when I feel like giving up. I need to protect those
dear to me. I refuse to let harm come to anyone I care for ever
again, but how can I protect someone when they won't tell me what is
going on?'

She had spaced out for most of the conversation going on in the room,
but when she heard about the trip she felt her blood bubble. Her
hands had stopped quivering and she balled them into fists.

'There is no way in hell I am going to leave my kingdom when my
people need me the most. That would be utterly selfish and stupid. I
am putting myself in danger more by leaving the castle grounds.'

She was about to storm in and put a stop to the conversations going
on when she suddenly spotted herself in the room.

"What the blazes is going on?" she whispered to herself. It took her
a few moments to realize that the person in the room wasn't really
her, but Garret.

'Why is Garret...me? I hope to God they don't think I am going to let
that liar take my place as queen of Baron!'

She felt herself steaming up.

'I guess I should make my appearance, but should I let on how much I
know?'

Before Rosa could decide anything she felt a whoosh as the door
opened up all the way.

"Eep!"

Mana had found her eavesdropping.

'This is very unlady like of me...'

<"ROSA! I--I was just going to look for you.">

*cough cough*

"Well...um...you found me?"

She raised her arms up in a puzzling fashion.

Garret was slightly shocked that Golbez pulled him aside. It was
enough of a shock looking like Rosa but it was scary that Golbez
wanted to talk to him! Garret listened to the plan and nodded his
agreement. He wondered if Golbez's concern for Baron was out of
guilt or if he felt he needed to finish his brother's work.
"Golbez, we are not shielding Rosa. We are trying to lighten the
load for her for now. She was showing signs of depression and was
not physically healthy. To dump the responsibility of Baron all on
her is too much at this point. A leader must be physically and
mentally fit or they are a liability to the country. We the people
of Baron, must also bear this responsibility until the Nation can
stand on its own. Golbez, you are the only one who was directly
involved that I know that is still fully functional..." Mana said.
She noticed her hands started to shake so she set her cup aside and
held her hands to try to make sure no one noticed.
"Anyway," began Ryuu, "Baron cannot keep relying on ally nations to
help it rebuild. Other nations are too, recovering and their good
will is ...well...shouldn't be needed. Baron needs to charge up its
own ecomomy on its own or be in debt forever. This trip I am
planning might help Baron earn some money." Ryuu pulled out a map
and pointed to Mist Mountains. "There are many archeology teams from
other nations already there. An easy way to boost Baron's ecomony is
tourism. Easy way to get tourists? Have something that no one else
has. What do you guys think?"
Everyone's train of thought came to a sudden halt when it was
announced that Rosa had arrived.
Ryuu just smiled. "Hey Queen Rosa!" 'How long have you been standing
there listening to us?' he thought as he looked at her expression on
her face.
Garret too, noticed Rosa looked a little angry and then he looked at
himself and then at Rosa again. He blushed furiously. "Um...don't
mind me," he said. "This is one of Ryuu's stupid tricks."
Ryuu stuck out his tongue at Garret and smiled at Rosa while telling
her of the trip he was planning.

Runic and Alex arrived in Baron in no time. Their camp wasn't far
away from the castle at all. Once they had gotten there they wandered
the halls of the castle for a little while.

"How do you think the Queen is doing?" Runic asked, watching the
floor under his feet as he walked along the fire-crestened halls.
"Hard to say, she seems so sheltered lately... I'm sure she is
feeling down."
"The Kingdom of Baron is weak and vulnerable," Runic sighed, "Do you
think she will be so willing to accept Fabul's help or do you think
she will be ignorant and wish to stand on Baron's crutches alone?"
"...Why are you asking me, I don't know whats going to..."
"Hey SHH! I hear something," Runic said, stoping and signaling Alex
to stop. While they were talking Runic noticed Rosa standing near a
slightly open door.

"...What do you think is going on..?" Runic whispered to Alex as they
ducked behind the wall.
"I dont know... What am I a prophet?"
"Well, I'm going to take a closer look."
"Runic..." Alex sighed as Runic tiptoed in closer to Rosa.

... ... ...

"So... whats going on?" Alex said once Runic had returned.
"Well, I guess the Queen just found out that Baron was attacked.
Apparently she overheard them talking in that room right before some
girl came and found her."
"I wonder, how did she not know the castle was attacked again?
Clearly anyone can see the damage that was done."
"I guess someone covered for the situation by saying the stove blew
up."
Alex started laughing. "...oh hehe thats the funniest thing I've
heard, and to think the Queen actually believed them. Well, what do
you want to do?"
"I don't know if we should just go in or what... I don't know how
formal this kingdom is, but I bet they could use our help so I think
we should just go in," Runic said pulling the letter from fabul out
of his coat, "We need to let they we and Fabul are on their side."
Alex looked down, "Well, lets do this then."

They straightened up and walked up to the doors of the main room,
knocking and then entering. Everyone looked over in their direction.

"Sorry to interupt," Runic said, both Alex and Runic bowing before
the Queen, "But I figured now would be the best time to address you
while everyone was here. I have met a few of you before, but to those
whom I'm just meeting my name is Runic and this is my companion Alex.
We are soldiers from Fabul and have coming baring news from his
majesty." Runic removed the letter from his jacket and handed it to
Rosa.
"The King just wanted to let you know if you choose to accept our
help Fabul will behind you through everything. I am the Commander of
Fabul's Militia, we can rally up men for a small army in no time, if
the need ever rose," Alex said again bowing to the Queen.
Runic watched the Queen when Alex spoke. She seemed enlightened for a
moment, but still angered. Knowing her fellow companions are lying to
her, who blames her for being angry.
"If you choose not to take our help we will leave your kingdom
immidiatly," Runic walked to the door, "After all we are just
offering the lives of our soldiers and the will of our kingdom."

Rosa listened as Ryuu explained his plan. She was angry indeed with
being lied to but was doing a good job at keeping it to herself for
now. Every now and then she glanced at Garret with narrowed eyes.
What Ryuu said did make economical sense but she was reluctant to
leave Baron especially after overhearing what had really happened.
Rosa began weighing the pros and cons of the situation if she went
with Ryuu and the others. In the end she decided to humour Ryuu and
go with them. They might indeed find something worth while on this
trip.

Runic and Alex then appeared out of the blue and offered their help.
Rosa didn't know how to react. Was this fate? If more help came then
maybe...

The Queen smiled. "Of course your help is more than welcome. Thank
you very much."

Mana smiled. Rosa was coming along!

Ryuu smiled inwardly. "This is good news. So let's divide ourselves
into two teams then. The team that is going to this little side trip
and the team that stays here and guards Baron."

Ryuu shuffled everyone around in the room until they stood in two
distinct groups. "Okay, Team Going To Have Fun will consist of Mana,
Golbez, Rosa, Chrissa, Eric, Edward, Alex, Runic and myself while
Team Going To Be Bored At Home will consist of Ken and Garret
acting as decoys. So are we in agreement with this? If you wish to
change teams please state so now."

"Is it me or "Team Going To Be Bored At Home" really small?"
muttered Garret to himself.

It was a cold rainy day when I lost my family. I was watching as
injured soldiers were marching quietly home.
"Commander Alexander is dead. What do we tell Harvey and Highwind?"
"You mean who is going to tell them."
I overheard them as I was wandering the streets. A boy yet I knew
too well what the word 'dead' meant. But my father couldn't be dead.
"Alexander had a son didn't he?"
Alexander is a common name, I thought as I hid in the alley.
"Yes I think so. Ken wasn't it?"
........Ken....is a common name too....
"What is going to happen to that kid? His mother is dead too."
A lot of children have single parents....
"Elaine Alexander, she was a wonderful lady. Always so kind to all
of us. It was too bad she had to die so soon. I feel sorry for the
son, Ken."
So then Dad is....
"Damn the Baigan household. I swear, they want us to all die..."
....dead.
"Let's hurry to headquarters. We have to inform them ASAP."
I leaned against the wall of the building and slowly slid down to
the ground. No one seemed to notice the boy in the alley as they
marched into the city. I just sat there in the alley, watching them.
It was hard to tell who was more dead; them or me. I don't remember
now I got home but I remember I did not sleep well. It seemed I
didn't change out of the wet clothes. My body hurt. Mr. Highwind
came to my house along with some of the knights that served with my
father. Mr. Highwind could barely speak. He was fighting back his
tears but some still came. Why are you crying? Men don't cry. He
held me so tightly. I could feel his body shaking. He was trying so
hard to be composed. I wondered what he would look like when no one
else was around. He must have done this many times...tell people
that someone they loved is dead.
"Ken...I...."
You still can't speak can you? I thought as I let my head rest on
his shoulders. I glanced at the other knights. They looked worse
than Mr. Highwind.
"It's all right....I understand," I said. "It's all right. I
understand."
Mr. Highwind just held me tighter. "I'm so sorry Ken!
I'm...so...sorry!"
I could feel pain but it wasn't mine. I wasn't even crying. I was
not like them. I do not cry! Men don't cry!
******
I didn't cry at my father's funeral either. I wasn't holding back my
tears nor did I feel the pain like Mr. Highwind expressed.
"What a strange kid," I overheard a woman say. "He doesn't even
looked affected by his father's death."
"That kid...has eyes of Death. There is nothing inside. He's just
empty."
Empty huh? Is that what I am? Is that why I don't feel anything now?
******YEARS LATER*******
It was a cold rainy day. I was standing outside Baron City's limit.
It's hard to remember dates. The passing of time is unnoticed by me.
"Are you sure about this?" Kain asked as he looked at me.
I looked at everyone. We were all soaked. Hmm...we should consider
investing in umbrellas.
"Are you sure about this?" he asked again.
I looked at everyone. Garret looked a little angry, Ryuu was
unreadable, Kain looked like he was quickly thinking of ways to try
to change my mind and Mana looked....
"Ken...are you really going away? Are you and Ryuu really going far
away from us? Don't you love us anymore?" she asked softly. Her eyes
seemed dull and empty; not so unlike my own. That's not right. It
was raining but I could clearly see their tears flowing down their
faces.
"Do...you...hate...us?" Mana asked as she slowly tried to reach for
me. "Do..you...hate...me?"
I don't know why but I suddenly reached out and held her so tightly
like Mr. Highwind held me that day. "No....I could
never.......hate....you."
"Then why?" I could feel her tears. "Why....?"
My body shook violently as I held her. "I'm so sorry....I'm so
sorry..." Is this deja vu....? I wanted to cry but I couldn't. "It's
better this way. You'll see. You won't remember a thing after today.
It'll be all right in the end. You'll see."
"NO! I'll never forget! I'll never forget! I'll never forget!" she
cried desperately as she held me tighter hoping to hold me there
forever. "I'll never forget the people I love!"
"Mana..."
Kain and Garret came up. "Mana..."
"Mana let me talk to Kain and Garret..."
She slowly and cautiously let me go. I looked at them and we each
held each other's hand tightly. "Knights forever," we said in unison.
"I know you'll come back," Kain said. "Knights do not abandon their
own."
"Come back soon and we'll show the bad guys what true terror is,"
said Garret.
Ryuu walked up with a smile. "That's right," he said as he also put
his hand on ours. After he walked up to Mana and gave her a
hug. "Don't worry, I'll look after Ken. He'll be all right. I
promise." He then kissed her on the forehead and she fell asleep in
his arms. He placed her in Garret's arms. "She won't wake up until
tommorow. I hope you have all the evidence of Ken's existance
sealed?"
Kain nodded. "It's done."
Ryuu nodded. "Well, until we meet again...."
"Not likely," I said.
Kain looked determined. "We WILL meet again. Count on it."
It was that day I walked away from my second family.
******YEARS LATER*****
I came home one day after hearing a nasty rumour and found tears
falling from Ryuu's eyes.
"King Cecil of Baron labelled the Dragoons as traitors...."
"That can't be! We have to..." Wait...why are you wearing your
priest's robes? Were you doing magic...? Divination...?
"We're too late. Kain, Garret and Mana are dead."
My eyes widened in shock; my fists were clenched so tightly they
bled. Strangely I couldn't cry - I was too angry. I lost my second
family.
This too, happened on a cold and rainy day...

Rosa smiled at everyone even if she was still peeved about the whole
deception thing.

"I am going to change into an outfit appropiate for an adventure. We
can't have me going out dressed like a queen."

With that, she swirled away leaving the scent of red roses behind
her. Her crown glittered with the reflection of the lights as she
made her way down the hallways to where her chambers were located at.
She sent the maid scurrying to the hills, and quickly took out a pair
of tan pants she had. She had been saving these from the days when
she used to sneak out of the castle to go visit with Cecil late at
night. She used to wear men's clothing because it was easier to move
about in. Plus, she always needed to climb down and up windows.

"I never thought I would have the chance to wear you again..."

She quickly stripped off her queenly robes, almost tearing them from
her skin. She stood naked in front of the mirror and examined her
porcelin beauty.

"Time to hide you in men's clothing."

She put on the tan britches, and then a white long sleeved shirt
which she tucked into the pants. She put a belt around her waist and
then slipped on some dark black boots. She tied her pale blond hair
back into a ponytail and slipped a dagger into the side of the belt.

"It looks like I am ready for an adventure."

She smiled as she examined her tom-boyish figure.

"Looks like that worked out okay afterall.." Chrissa sighed. She was
worried Rosa might have found out about the attack on Baron, but the
queen didn't seem to let on about it.
".... Why was everyone so stiff all of a sudden around the queen?"
Eric blinked in confusion.
".. It's hard to explain.." Edward sighed, rubbing his temples. The
stress had really gotten to him, but that made him look forward all
the more to Ryuu's adventure.

Ryuu clapped with glee. Rosa indeed was coming along!
Garret watched Ryuu with narrowed eyes. What was this fruit cake
thinking? Vanishing for years without a word and then popping up all
of a sudden like nothing was wrong! The demon boy just held his head
and started to rub it. ' Must not get headache....' Ryuu had a lot
of nerve turning Garret into Rosa to decieve people.
Before anyone knew what was going on, they found themselves on
chocobos or riding in the wagon which was susupiciously packed with
everything they needed for Ryuu's little road trip.
Mana sat in the wagon with Chrissa and Rosa and waved to Garret and
Ken while they were heading out. "Don't cause another accident
Garret!"
"Thanks for your vote of confidence!" he shouted at her
sarcastically with Rosa's voice.
Mana just giggled and went back to her seat made of straw. "Ahh, it
has been a long time since I did something like this. Who knows? We
might luck out and find some interesting treasure!"
"You think?" Ryuu popped out seemingly out of nowhere.
"Ryuu!" Mana held her chest and was breathing heavily. "What are
you...? Wait who is driving the wagon?!"
Ryuu pointed to Golbez. "He is. Not very talkative person is he? His
name is Golbez right? Why is he such a frowny face? I have never
once seen him smile. What's he got up his butt anyway?"
Mana forced a smile at Ryuu's colourful description of Golbez. "Be
nice Ryuu. Piss him off and he might turn you into an animal and eat
you." 'More likely fireball you to death...'
"Ha!" Ryuu scoffed. "He should be so lucky to get a taste of me!
Speaking of taste..." Ryuu pulled out some snacks and handed them to
everyone. "Though y'all would be hungry by now. I know I am. We'll
be near Mist Cave soon. We're taking a mountain path near there."
With that said he vanished but not without giving a strange glance
to Rosa.
'What was that about?' wondered Mana.
====================
"Tell me the truth now," demanded Ken.
"I don't know what you are talking about," replied Garret.
"You always were a bad liar. What really happened to Kain and Cecil?
Their bodies are not under that gravestone. So where are they?"

<Now where are they off to?> Carasha wondered to herself. It didn't
make sense for the group to be leaving Baron so soon after it was
attacked. And without a squadron of guards no less!
And did she see--? Two Rosas?
Something was wrong. But it wouldn't matter much. Carasha wanted to
keep an eye on the redhead, and there wasn't really much she could do
at the castle anyway.

-------------------

"Funny, I didn't know they made a path at Misty Mountains." Eric
replied, riding on a chocobo close to the wagon.
Chrissa nodded, swallowing one of the snacks. "Yup. How do you think
we got the hovercraft from Damcyan to Baron? It never would have made
it through the cave."
"Oh." Eric said. ".... Could you pass me one of those?"
Chrissa did so with a sigh, then glanced over at Edward, whom kept
glancing back behind him. "Something wrong?"
"Oh, I just get the feeling something is following us..." The
Damcyan king replied.

-------------------

Carasha tried to keep the wagons and chocobos in sight, but keep
herself out of it. That wasn't easy unless she kept a good distance
away. <Why couldn't we go through a forest or something?> she
muttered to herself.

Golbez's personal chocobo was a dark green one, well-suited for riding
across long distances and through mountains. The bird seemed to have
a temperament similar to Golbez's own. Indeed, it seemed to have a
perpetual glare on its beaked face.

The sorcerer was not very happy. He was opposed to this whole idiotic
"adventure" idea in the first place. In fact, he'd only come along to
make certain Rosa was safe. He kept his chocobo close to her location
at all times. If something happened, he wanted to make sure he was there.

"This is a fool's game," he muttered under his breath.

Alex & Runic were riding black chocobo's. They followed behind
Golbez at a far distance. They too started felt their adventure was
a little stupid.

"Umm, so why exactly are we going with them?" Alex asked Runic.
"I beleive we just got done telling them we are here to help them in
any situation."
"...Anything for you to get near the Queen, eh Runic?"
"No, shut up!"

Ryuu hopped onto Runic's chocobo and gave a sly smile as he
overheard some of the conversation taking place. "We need all the
help we can get! It's great that you guys came along! Don't worry, I
promise you it will not be a boring trip at all." With that said,
Ryuu hopped back on to Boko's (the chocobo he was riding) back.
Mana watched Ryuu as she rested her head in her arms on the edge of
the wagon. Looking at Ryuu made her feel she was forgetting
something very important.
Ryuu looked at Golbez and tried to strike a conversation with
him. "Nice chocobo you got there...uh kinda looks like you too." Why
is Golbez so angry? was what Ryuu's face was showing while his mind
was thinking something else. "Eh heh heh, I am glad you decided to
come along. After all you are the only person in this group with
proper experience with black and summoner magic. I think you will
find this trip to be most educational about the people you think you
should trust...." he said with a smile. "You should enjoy this day!
So bright and sunny without a storm cloud in the sky! What could
possibly go wrong?"
As if on que, a distant yet loud rumbling could be heard.
"Ooops," Ryuu said as his happy expression faltered.
Rain started to pour down hard on the heroes in no time at all.
"Right when we reach the base of the mountain range..." muttered
Mana.
Ryuu tossed an item and a giant cabin appeared.
"That's...bigger than standard..." commented Mana as she hopped off
the wagon and walked around the garage part of the cabin.
"Well what do you expect from me?" Ryuu asked with a gloating look
and pose. "Ho ho! Besides, Chocobos don't need to be outside in the
cold rain. That is just rude and wrong!"
Boko "warked" in agreement.
Ryuu ran into the living quarters of the cabin. "Come on and make
yourselves comfortable! We'll wait the storm out."
Mana looked around and took a seat near the fireplace. "Why did it
rain so suddenly? There was not one cloud in the sky."
Ryuu just shrugged it off. "Maybe the competition didn't want us to
find the treasure first."

"Really now, having me do this kind of magic really is over doing
it. Are you that angry? Do you want revenge that badly?" asked Oskar.
"Hey, it's a matter of pride. Those dippy dragoons made me look bad.
Besides our client is paying us very well." Morriygan smiled. "I
think it's killing many birds with one stone."
Oskar sighed. "Well this magical storm will last for about two days
straight, given the fact you asked for it out of the blue and I
didn't have proper time to prepare the spell."
"Two days is enough. We don't want them catching us off guard and we
should get their first. I want to get this treasure that they seem
to want so badly."
"Too bad they don't know what it is."

Garret did an inspection of the Castle before he decided to head off
too bed. He fell into his bed groaning.
"Queen Rosa, this is the Knights Quarters. What are you doing on
Garret's bed?" asked a novice Dark Knight.
Garret immediately got up. "Err, I tripped...onto to it while I was
inspecting the area..."
"Oh, okay." The Knight seemed to buy the excuse.
Garret ran out of the area and headed to Rosa's room. "Man I nearly
blew my cover...." Garret looked outside the window and watched the
storm. "I could've sworn that it was a clear sky today." He noticed
someone was standing outside in the rain without an umbrella. "Ken?"
Garret squinted his eyes to get a better look. When his guess was
confirmed, he ran outside with an umbrella. "Hey dummy! Why are you
staring at the sky when the weather is like this?"
Ken didn't answer him.
Garret ran in front of him and saw that Ken was still looking up at
the sky in a daze. "Hey you dummy!" he said again.
Ken slowly looked down at him.
"Get inside, you'll catch your death of cold out here. Why are you
out here anyway?"
Ken blinked slowly as if coming back to the real world. "Just
remembering...."
Garret decided to say nothing. "Come on. Let's get inside. You look
suspicious out here."
=========
Ryuu smiled as it seemed everyone was enjoying themselves in the
cabin. He noticed Mana was not among the group. Based on his
suspicions he walked outside and found her looking up at the dark
sky in the rain - without a proper coat or an umbrella. 'They are
alike in some ways...'
"Hey Mana, whatcha doing out here in the cold rain?" Ryuu asked
softly as he stood beside her covering both of them under his
umbrella.
"I don't know. Ever time it rains, I feel like I forgot something
very important. I feel a pain in my chest and I feel like crying..."
Ryuu looked away for a second. Mana, looking at the sky in a daze
didn't notice.
"If it is something that causes you pain, maybe it is worth
forgetting..." Ryuu said after a while.
Mana shook her head and it seemed she woke up from her daze. "What
do rainy days make you feel Ryuu?"
Ryuu just smiled but he didn't answer her question. "Let's go back
inside. You'll catch your death of cold if you stand out here like
this."
Mana nodded apparantly not noticing Ryuu evading the question.
Ryuu handed her the umbrella. "I just remembered. I have something
to do out here. I'll be right back. You hurry on in before Golbez
blames me for something happening to you."
When Mana was out of sight, Ryuu said, "Rainy days remind me of Sin
that can never be washed away - the sorrow in the heart that does
not remember..."

Eric groomed over his chocobo, glancing outside everyonce in a while
at the rain.
"It's weird how it just suddenly came down. I mean, there was hardly
a cloud in the sky.." Chrissa started. Eric nodded slightly.
"Well, it's probably just a fluke. Hopefully it'll come as quickly
as it came. That's how it seemed to happen up on Mt. Ordeals."
"Hmm.." Chrissa nodded. "What were you doing up there?"
"Oh.. Um, nothing..." Eric quickly busied himself with the chocobo.
Chrissa crossed her arms, looking curiously at her brother.
"Eric?"
"... It's going to sound silly, I know it." Eric shook his head. "..
I want to become a paladin."
"You what?" Chrissa was slightly surprised.
"Cecil did it, so it's not impossible," he started. "That's what
I've been doing since I left Baron. I hadn't quite made it to the top
of the mountain yet, but I keep trying.... You think I can become a
paladin, right?"
Chrissa was silent for a moment, then smiled. "Sure, why not?"

<Ihaterain.Ihaterain.Ihaterain.Ihaterain....> Carasha's thoughts ran
almost as fast as the weather that pounded her. Something was very
disturbing about it, since it came without even the animals
knowledge. The others were able to stay in the cabin, but she had
only brought tents, which would be battered by the rain if she had
brought it out. Her own ninja mask was soaked, making it harder to
breath out of.
<Crud.... What in Eblan's name am I doing out here anyway?! It's not
like those people are a threat. And I'll keep the best eye on that
guy if I'm 'with' the group instead of following it.> she finally
told herself. Accepting that answer, she rushed up to the cabin,
where Ryuu was still outside. "Hey!!" she called. "I-I was lost out
here, and I was wondering if I could stay in the cabin for the
night?" she asked quickly.

Mana was using a towel to dry her hair off. 'Why did I walk outside
again? Have I gone insane?' All she could remember was looking for a
nice seat near the fireplace and then suddenly she was outside
standing in the cold rain. She shook her head vigouriously. 'I just
need more sleep...I am not getting enough sleep...that's all...' she
kept telling herself despite the fact her body started to shake as
if afraid to know the truth. "Um I am going to go to uh,
bed...now...um...see you all in the morning," she said before
running to her room and laying on the bed wrapping herself tightly
with the blanket.

Ryuu was pulling out a strange match from his pocket when Carasha
showed up. He fumbled with his item, dropping it onto the ground. He
gave the ninja girl a goofy smile as he picked it up.
"Sure, come on in. Plenty of room for you." Ryuu stuffed the item
back in his pocket and escorted Carasha inside. 'Damn....gotta talk
to them later it seems. Oh well...' "Look everyone! We have a guest
tonight. Poor lady was trapped in the storm as well...Her name is
uh..." Ryuu looked at her and asked sheepishly, "What is your name
by the way?"

"G'night Mana!" Eric called after the dragoon. He glanced over when
he heard the door to see Ryuu leading in a ninja girl.

Ryuu looked at her and asked sheepishly, "What is your name by the

"Cara--" the ninja was starting, when suddenly Edward had hit a
sudden wrong note on his harp, hard on everyone's ears.
"Umm.. Sorry, very sorry.." he said, slightly jittery.
"... Carasha." she finally continued when she was satisfied there
wouldn't be another interupption.
"Yeah, I remember you!" Chrissa said. "Where were you off to? I
figured you would stay in Baron for a while."
"I-- I'm just not one to stay in one place to long. I was just
traveling.. when the storm came up." she answered. Then she gave a
nod to the Queen of Baron and the King of Damcyan. "May I ask where
the royalty is off to? I would think it not a wise idea to leave
Baron so soon after the--"
Edward, this time purposefully, hit another bad note to cut her off.
Chrissa caught on quickly, and went over to Carasha. "You must be
soaked! Here, we better go find you some dry clothes!" she said,
dragging a resistant Carasha into the other room.
"... What were the chances we'd be out here in time to help her
out?" Eric grinned suddenly.

thought to himself. And his singed cloak from failing to properly cast
Fire 1 didn't help either. *I guess i can be grateful the rain

As he looked up he could see a party of Warriors. Incentus observed
the looks on their faces, coming to the conclusion they were
travelling together for some time. Maybe, he thought to himself, he
could join them.

Continuing down the path, Incentus clumsily fell over a rock, dust
hitting his "would-be face" making his eyes twitch. He stood up,
brushed his cloak off, twisted his hat to the left, then to the right,
then to the center again, where it was originally. Blinking, he opened
his eyes to see a stranger peering at him

---- "... What were the chances we'd be ouut here in time to help her
out?" Eric grinned suddenly.----

"Good I'll say," said Ryuu as they all turned around after hearing a
noise outside the cabin. Ryuu was secretly thankful to Edward and
Chrissa for keeping up the ruse about the castle being attacked even
if they didn't know it. He allowed his attention to be drawn back to
the stranger who was at their doorstep.
"Because we got another guest tonight it seems we have another guest."
Ryuu opened the door as everyone else looked at the stranger through
the window.
"What's your name?"
"Incentus, Incentus Gon," he said.
"Cool name!" commented Ryuu as he helped Incentus to a seat near the
fireplace to dry off. Ryuu clapped his hands together and ran off
somewhere in the cabin only to return with marshmallows and metal
sticks. "Let's just sit and relax here until the storm dies down," he
suggested as he handed everyone some marshmallows and sticks to roast.
Tensions seemed a little high because he had just invited two
strangers to stay with them. But then again, they were going in
disguise, so most likely they should not recognize anyone here...
"Well...," Ryuu began to break the silence, "how about a story to pass
the time?"
"I'm in," said Runic as he leaned back in his seat.
Ryuu smiled and pulled some strange dust out of his pouch and threw it
into the fire to make it burn in many different colours.
****
Ken was sitting in front of the fireplace in the main hall of Baron
Castle brooding. Suddenly in the fire he could see the travelling
group. "Hmm? Why does he want to show me this?" Ken noticed two new
additions to the group and it had him slightly worried.
"Yo! Ken, what's up?" asked Garret still disguised as Rosa as he came
into the room. When Ken did not reply, Garret took a seat next to him
and also looked at the fire. "No one suspects anything yet. Let's hope
it stays this way..."
Ken still did not reply as he kept his eye on the image of Ryuu in the
fire.
****
"Wait! I know a great story!" Ryuu said as he clapped his hands
together. "Ahem, long ago there was a knight and a princess who were
happily in love. The knight was famous as his heroic deeds were many
and although he was mostly silent, his kindness and compassion knew no
bounds. He fell in love with a wonderful girl who was also very kind
and compassionate and did many things to help the people of the
country. Basically they were the perfect couple. They thought so and
so did everyone else except for one. A Lord of the country was also in
love with the princess and he could not stand that the princess loved
the knight who did not have royal blood in his body. 'How could the
princess love a man such as that knight?' thought the Lord. 'She
should love someone like me! 'The Lord tried many attempts to woo the
princess but she would just only smile at him and thank him for his
interest but she would never look at him the same way that she looked
at her commoner knight..."
****
"I'LL KILL HIM! LET ME GO! I AM GOING TO HANG HIM BY HIS---" Ken was
fighting the hold that Garret had on him.
"Chill out Ken! It's just a story and it's not like you can jump into
the fire and appear next to them," said Garret.
After a while Ken just sighed and sat back down sulking.
Garret let out a huge sigh of relief.

"The Lord became more frustrated as the days passed, the knight
becoming more well respected than he and as the couple's happiness
grew. He finally decided that if he could not be happy then they,
especially the knight, should not be happy. 'A commoner should not be
more happy than I! If I can't earn the princess's love, then I will
take it by force!'
So the Lord plotted against the the couple on a cold autumn evening.
There was a festival taking place in the country. The knight went to
compete in the events and the princess went into the church to pray
and help the priest until her knight came to escort her for the main
festivities. The Lord snuck into the church with a bunch of hired
thugs and then ordered them to attack and hold down the princess. The
princess fought back but being outnumberd tried to flee afterwards
only to be knocked down. In the commotion, some candles where also
knocked down burning the things around them. The Lord stood over her
with a crazed look in his eyes as she returned his look with only pity.
'Where is your wonderful knight? The only man you have eyes for? I
want him to see this...I want him to see that you should only belong
to me!' he let out a sinister laugh as the fires around the began to
grow and burn the walls of the building.
Now the knight was headed to the church to pick up his princess only
to see fire burning inside. He feared the worst and burst into the
church to see the worst. His princess was laying on the ground at the
Lord's feet injured and the beautiful dress he had gotten her as a
gift was torn and stained with blood. The look in the princess's eyes
told the knight to run before it was too late but how could he? He
would never abandon his love to such an evil! The knight pulled out
his sword and let out a cry of fury such of the likes no one has ever
heard. He slaughtered most of the thugs, yet enough remained to hold
him in his place as the Lord slowly walked up to him gloating and
ready to kill the knight in a cowardly way.
'See this? This is what you deserve! She rightfully belongs to me! All
will be set right again once you are dead!' The Lord looked at the
princess as he raised his sword to kill her knight. 'Take a good look
at your so called love - it will be the last time you see him!' he
laughed like a maniac and begin to bring his sword down on the knight
only to drop it from shock. The princess, even though weakened,
managed to pick up a dagger one of the thugs dropped and stabbed the
Lord in his sword arm. The Lord pushed her aside with his other arm.
'Stupid girl! I am doing this for you! You'll pay even more dearly for
that!' he yelled as he moved towards her but she attacked back and
managed to stab him in his heart and give him a fatal wound. In the
confusion the knight broke free from the thugs and killed off the rest
of them and ran to his princess's side. The Lord fell to his knees and
just laughed as the couple tried to escape the burning building. 'Do
you think you've won? This is the begining. A curse shall be upon you
and all those you love! May you never find happiness again!' The Lord
died with a sinister look on his face as the couple escaped the
burning church.
Days passed after that incident and everyone wondered what happened.
The Knight had never taken a life before even in battle. The Princess,
who had never seen battle had also taken a life and spent the days in
shock looking at her hands even though the blood was washed clean from
them. The princess became more sickly and pale and the knight could
not let this go on. Nothing he did would bring the light back into her
eyes so he decided to take drastic measures. He asked a priest to wipe
all memory of the event and of himself away from the princess's mind.
The priest obliged and told the knight if he had any last words to say
to the princess, he should do so soon because the spell he cast would
take effect in three days and she would no him no more. So the knight
got his affairs in order and on the last day, in the cold rain, he
said his goodbye to the princess and left the country never to be seen
again. It was his hope that the princess could go on with her life
never again knowing such a horrid sorrow. Then next day, the princess
awoke a much happier and healthier person never knowing what had
happened only a few days ago and not remembering her love which she
was willing to sacrifice everything to be with."
Ryuu let out a huge sigh after he finished his tale. "So what do you
all think?" he asked the group.

Golbez fixed his face into a half-scowl, half-indifferent look. He didn't
like Ryuu and he didn't like that Ryuu was so eager to welcome some random
stranger in. They were traveling with two national leaders and an assortment
of other very important folk. All it would take was one wrong move and
something terrible could happen.

On the other hand, the sorcerer was fairly confident he could take care of
himself and Rosa, at the very least. Golbez was a very powerful Black
Magician and Black Knight, and a skilled swordsman to boot. He wasn't much
concerned about the others; Rosa's safety and welfare was the highest priority
on his list.

That's why he gave the new person...Incentus or something...a constant glower
while Ryuu told his story.

"My... That was a very powerful story, Ryuu." Edward commented. Eric
looked confused.
"So waitaminute.. So she doesn't remember anything? Nothing about
the knight?" Eric started. ".. That doesn't seem to much of a happy
ending."
"Some stories don't have the happiest endings, Eric." Chrissa said,
coming back in.
Carasha followed back in with some dry clothes, although she still
wore her face mask. The ninja sat apart from the others, since she
wasn't really much of a social person. But she sat close enough to
keep an eye on Ryuu, since he the whole reason why she came. The man
was obviously very good at decieving by changing his personality from
that knight she saw him talking to the fire. Or he was a
skitzofrantic, which could still be possible.
Course, she did catch him alone right before she entered the tent.
What was he doing. He had been pulling something out from his pocket,
then he dropped it. What was it? Carasha knew she saw it, but for
some reason she couldn't think. It must have not been too important,
but still...
"So where are you from?" Eric interuppted her thoughts. Carasha gave
a sharp glance over, pausing for a few moments.
Edward chuckled a little. ".. I would assume Eblan, Eric. Ninjas
don't come from too many other areas."
"Ohhh, I'm from Baron!" the former dark knight grinned.
"Gee, I didn't know." Carasha replied sarcasticly. Maybe it was no
wonder that Ryuu had them fooled if they were all as bright as
this "Eric' guy.
She reminded herself, however, that it would be foolish to judge the
others so quickly. Her eyes glanced over to Golbez, whom stood out
quite a bit from the rest of the group. There was a darker aura about
him, and quite a bit more powerful. He could be dangerous.
Carasha made some mental notes about this. Any information on her
new traveling companions might be good.

"No it doesn't," said Mana. Everyone quickly turned around. "But
that's how it's been for us for a while hasn't it?" Mana was looking
more pale than before.
Ryuu laughed nervously. "Oh look at the time! Mana you should've
been in bed and we should all hit the sack. We don't want to be
zombies when we wake up tomorrow do we?"
Ryuu showed the guests their rooms as everyone else headed to bed.
***
While everyone else appeared to be asleep, Ryuu paced around the
main room of the cabin, occasionally taking a look through the
window with a pair of binoculars. He was irritated.
"How dare they? Who do they think they are?" he growled.
The fire seemed to be mocking him with answer.
"Oh shut up," he said. "I know they are the bad guys. The thing is
how do we take them out? I really can't do anything. I'm supposed to
be the idol singer remember? The stupid airhead with no powers
except to entertain and annoy!" he said the last line with a bit of
his "regular" personality.
"Right...I know there are two people in here with strong black
magic. What am I supposed to do? Waltz up and go, 'Mr. Harvey sir
could you do me a favour?' ha ha ha yeah right. Did you see him when
I was telling my story? He looked like he wanted to roast me!
Imagine! He wants to roast lovable me!" Ryuu flopped down into a
couch. "It doesn't have to be black magic does it? Isn't there
another way? Okay fine, we'll do it your way first."
The red head gathered his courage and knocked on the door where
Golbez was staying only to look up and meet the not so friendly look
of Golbez.
"Um, heh heh, I can't sleep and well I saw something suspicious," he
said pointing to the window. "On that hill over there, it's not
raining. Kinda like the eye of the hurricane but it's not a
hurricane out now. Could you...maybe send a fireball that way?
Please?"
****
Oskar was looking down at the cabin. "That red head has been looking
at us for quite sometime...what is he planning? Does he know we're
up here?"

Golbez looked darkly at Ryuu. A couple of things sprang into his mind.

First, Ryuu could've been trying to pull him away from Rosa. Second,
one didn't simply "throw a fireball over there" without knowing what
one was throwing a fireball at. Either Ryuu didn't appreciate tactics
or this was some sort of trap.

"I am not going to fling magic recklessly around like a novice," he
said coldly, "If you would like me to investigate the area, I will see
if anything is amiss."

He reached for his Night Sword that leaned against the bed. "However,
you will go with me if I investigate." He stared intently at Ryuu.

'Where's Ken when you need him?' thought Ryuu. 'I'm going to be
murdered by Golbez!'
You're the one that made Ken stay back in Baron...
Ryuu really wanted to tell the fire to shut up but he didnt want to
make Golbez think he was a loon on top of being hated. "Uh, right.
It's only fair. I wouldn't want the target to get away." Ryuu
grabbed his coat and lead the way to Oskar and Morryigan.
***
"Morryigan, we got problems. The red head is coming towards us. I
think he knows we are here because he brought Golbez with him!"
"Hmm...that red head is a dope. Could he really know anything? If
they get to close throw a fireball at them and roast them. I doubt
Golbez even knows we're here. It'll probably catch him off guard and
we can make our escape. We should find the artifact before they do
or we are screwed."
"Right. Damn, they are to close. I doubt I can keep the rain going
for much longer anyway. Fireballs away!"
***
"I swear I saw something strange on this hill. I used my binoculars
and also saw movement up here. Don't you think it's weird that it's
not raining there and everywhere else is drowning?"
Ryuu didn't get a chance to finish his idea as a huge fireball
headed towards them followed my many others.
Ryuu tackled Golbez down before the first fireball could hit
them. "See? Told....you....something...was...wrong," he said as he
grabbed Golbez's hand running and dodging fireballs. If one didn't
know better, it seemed that Golbez got a lot lighter while Ryuu was
holding on to him...

Golbez's dark eyes narrowed as the fire rained down on him from all
sides. It seemed Ryuu was right but this could still be a trap to
lure him away until...Until what? Until an assassin could sneak in
and murder Rosa? That almost gave Golbez pause but he had to deal
with this threat now, even if it was a trap.

He forcefully stopped Ryuu. "The easiest way to counter fire magic,"
he said, "is not to dodge it."

The sorcerer raised his hands and called down the power of the clouds
above. A devastating storm of ice and snow began to forcefully pour
down on the hilltop. The swirling winds carried shards of biting,
razor-sharp glass across the hill, just in front of Ryuu and Golbez.

After a moment, the ice had finished. "Now, we proceed," the sorcerer
said solemnly.

"Morryigan, more problems," said Oskar.
"Like I haven't noticed!" she snapped. "Try a lightning strike. They
might get fried since they are wet."
"Got it."
"I got everything packed. Let's get out of here while we can..."

Ryuu was running quickly as possible. He didn't want them to get
away. They could be the ones...the ones that started the mess to
begin with. "I'll have my revenge..." he muttered. He sensed that a
lightning bold was headed his way. He decided not to completely
dodge it and he was struck down.
***
"Ha! I got that dippy red head!" said Oskar triumphantly.
"Good," said Morryigan as the storm started to die down. She turned
around to grab Oskar only to see Golbez looking up at them from the
bottom of the hill. "Oh crap..."

Golbez drew the Night Sword and charged the hilltop. He retaliated
with another lightning bolt of his own as he ran.

So, they want to play with magic, he thought. I'll unleash magic of
the like they've never seen.

Golbez didn't quite get a glimpse of who was on top, though he could
make out the two figures ahead. With a battle cry, he dashed forward
swung the darksword in a wide arc, unleashing a wave of blue-black
dark energy at the two figures.

"Golbez dear. Love to play with you some more hon but we gotta jet.
Don't think you've won though. This isn't even a taste of what is in

Golbez scowled at Ryuu as the red-head started crawling up the hill.
In a dark mood, he sheathed his sword, picked the man up and slung him
over his shoulder. Without saying anything, he walked back to the cabin.

As he walked, he began to think. Who were those two on the hilltop?
They had formidable black magic. They also knew who he was. That
shouldn't bother him as much as it did. A LOT of people knew the name
of Golbez. For some reason, though, he was troubled by the fact that
these assailants recognized him.

He walked into the cabin and laid Ryuu out on the couch. The man
looked singed by the lightning but otherwise in decent condition.
Rosa or Mana could perform healing magic when they awoke.

The sorcerer sighed and sat down in a chair nearby. He knew this
"adventure" was a horrible idea...

Ryuu smirked all the way back as Golbez carried him...
****
Mana woke up, washed up and started to head to the kitchen only to
see Golbez and Ryuu already up. Ryuu had a stupid grin on his face
and was already making breakfast. Was it her imagination or was Ryuu
looking slightly burnt?
"Good morning," she said with a smile to Golbez and Ryuu.
"Morning!" said Ryuu as he got everyone's breakfast ready. "Good
news! The storm stopped! We can continue on our trip!"
"Ryuu, what happened to you? You look like you were...uh...fried..."
asked Mana after looking out the window and seeing the wonderful day
that awaited them.
"Oh me? Cooking accident. Don't worry about it," he lied with a
smile.
Rosa who had just entered the room looked worried though and
performed some healing magic on Ryuu.
Ryuu smiled. "Thanks."
When everyone had woken up, Ryuu exclaimed, "DIG IN!"
The red head was going through his food like a man who hadn't eaten
in years.
Mana quietly ate. She wanted to heal Ryuu but she couldn't. She
couldn't use white magic anymore and she didn't want people to find
out why. It would only add to the worry and Ryuu was working hard to
avoid that....wait...Ryuu wouldn't be that singed from a cooking
accident or else everyone else would've heard or seen something. She
took a careful glance at Golbez and saw the look on his face
everytime he looked at Ryuu. It confirmed her suspicion...
***
"Okay! We're all packed and ready to go! What a beautiful day today
is! A perfect day to find something!" said Ryuu as he lead the way.
"That's what he said last time and what happened? It rained like
crazy!" said Runic.
"Ryuu, Golbez and I have a few things to check over and we'll be
right with you soon okay?" said Mana.
"Okay! Don't worry, everything will be all right in the end. I
promise," he said before turning his attention to Rosa chatting his
head off.
Mana held her head upon hearing Ryuu's words. She felt like her head
was going to split...'No...' she thought. 'Why is this happening to
me?' She regain composure and looked at Golbez. "I've seen that look
on your face before. Ryuu lied to me didn't he? What really
happened? But not only that...what is your interest in Baron? Not
that I mind you staying but..."

Golbez looked at Mana for a moment before answering. This girl was
canny. Not a whole lot could slip by her. That was why he liked
having her around at Baron. He began his explanation.

"Ryuu thought he spotted someone on a nearby hilltop. He claimed that
there were people standing in a place where there was no rain. I
brought him with me to investigate and we were assaulted by lightning
and fire magic. He was knocked out cold by a bolt of lightning."

He paused, looking at Mana for another long moment. "My reasons for
joining Baron right now are my own. Only Rosa knows my motive for
doing so. In time, I may tell you."

The sorcerer didn't feel the desire or need to explain that. He
wished she would assume it was simply to honor the memory of his
brother, just like everyone else.

"That dummy!" Mana said clenching her fists only sigh
afterwards. "Why is he doing this? What's his stake with Baron? He
hasn't been there in such a long time..."
She turned her gaze back at Golbez. "So you too have another agenda.
I wish you would tell me but it's fine if you don't. Your business
is that - your business. It's the same with everyone it seems." Her
gaze then went in the direction of Baron. "There have been
attempts at your life. I wouldn't be surprised if the people who
were responsible for the magic last night were after you. You are
Golbez. What a great trophy for someone to brag about is their
defeat of the Great Golblez...but you aren't him. You are not the
same man..." she moved closer to him and gently touched his face as
if to confirm he was real. Her hand felt colder than ice. "...not
the same man who stole Kain away... but in a way you are...it's
confusing." She took a step back from him. "I know you are always on
your guard but please be careful. You may be Golbez, stronger than
most but you are not invincible nor are you immortal." Mana's eyes
looked like they were going to betray a secret so she looked
away. "Golbez, I want you to know..."
Don't tell him. Under any circumstance. I don't give a fig if he is
Cecil's brother, I don't care if he is higher in rank, I don't care
if Rosa trusts him more than us but don't tell him anything!
Mana could hear Garret's voice in her head.
"Nevermind. Anyway, we should catch up with the others. Golbez, no
matter what you hear, no matter what people tell you, no matter what
you see, no matter what happens please just have faith in me and
don't die. If you can't trust me at least promise me you won't die.
I wouldn't be able to stand it if you died."
Mana got on her chocobo and rode on after the group.
****
"Welcome!" said a plump man covered from head to toe in dirt.
The ride had been a little bumpy and Ryuu was still rubbing his sore
butt while the man was talking and explaining things to them.
"You're the team from Baron right? You're a little late but that is
okay. We'll be splitting your group into two since there is a lot of
ground to cover in such a short time. Maybe you'll find something
nice to bring home to your Queen!" he said while thrusting random
tools into the group's hands.
Rosa smiled. Her disguise was good enough.
"So all you guys got to decide is who is going with who and where,"
finished the man.
"That's easy!" said Ryuu as he grabbed Rosa's hand. "Me, Rosa,
Runic, Incentus and Edward are going to go together into that bright
tunnel over there!"
Rosa saw Golbez's worried look and quietly said to him. "Don't worry
and don't argue. I can take care of myself and there are many people
around. The faster this adventure is over the better right?"
Ryuu just smiled and dragged his group down the tunnel.
Mana sighed and looked at everyone else. "Well let's go..." she
looked at the tunnel that was left over and a sense of cold
foreboding made her shiver. "Ryuu you get back here and take this
creepy tunnel!" She could hear his laughter in reply. She
sighed. "Let's go." Mana lit a torch so they could see where they
were going. There was a lot of strange pictures and words on the
walls. Her group walked past a few others that were in there
digging, moving even deeper into the mountain. "Well at least there
are a lot of nice things to look at here..."
****
Ryuu's group emerged from the tunnel to a bright field with some
ruins in the middle. "OOOOH! So picture perfect! This would be a
great place to have a picnic!"

Chrissa became slightly worried, heading into the tunnel. Golbez had
been separated from Rosa, and she had been separated from Edward. It
didn't seem like a good idea to her, but Maybe it was better off that
way....
Carasha didn't like the idea one bit. She was so suspicious of Ryuu,
she wanted to follow and go with that party. She knew some of what
happened the night before...

The ninja had only been half asleep, when she heard Ryuu talking to
himself, or the fire again. Carasha knew it as soon as she had heard
him make a comment about suppose to be the idol singer airhead...
Wait, idol singer? Could he have been the same guy at the festival?
She quickly shook her head. That wasn't important. The next thing
Carasha knew, Ryuu was getting Golbez's help for attacking something
on a hill. When the two had left, she had snuck out of her room and
watched out the window at the scene. Although she couldn't make out
all that was going on, she saw the magic show that was exchanged.
When Golbez was seen coming back down the hill with Ryuu, Carasha
had returned to her room. Golbez was a man she didn't want to be seen
spying by.

But now she was going through a cave in a whole different direction
then Ryuu.
"Man, doesn't anyone clean around here?" Eric asked.
"Eric, its a cave, people don't clean them.." Chrissa sighed.
Carasha interuppted with a slight 'tsk'.
"Actually, we had to clean caves when we were driven there at the
destruction of Eblan Castle.." she replied. Her eyes were already
getting used to the darkness of the cave, glancing about.

---------------------------

Edward looked about the field cautiously. Although it did look
lovely, he still wasn't even aware of what they were to do there..
<Other then dig anyways,> he thought, glancing down at the tools he
had been given. Oh well, he might find some things to take home to
Damcyan.
"A picnic does sound nice." he had to admit.

"Ryuu, what are you doing?" asked Runic as he was watching Ryuu play
with a couple of metal sticks.
"I'm dousing," Ryuu said with a smile.
"Isn't that for finding water?"
"Yeah but I am going to see if I can find treasure this way...Ohh!"
Ryuu quickly picked up a shovel. "I'm going to dig here."
****
Mana's group managed to emerge from the tunnels into a giant room
with high ceilings painted in gold and silver. "Whoa..." Every now
and then her attention turned to Carasha. She really wanted to speak
with the ninja girl in private. Something was nagging her in the
back of her mind.
"These walls...are covered in some kind of writing. Does anyone have
a clue as to what is written?" 'Please let no one have a clue...'
Mana handed the torch to Eric and pulled out some parchment in her
pocket and began to look at the walls in earnest.
"Well this room looks relatively clean compared to the tunnels we
came through to get here," said Alex.
"That's because this place has been sealed for sometime," muttered
Mana without thinking. "A recent earthquake revealed part of the
ruins."
Alex was looking at what appeared to be an altar with a statue on
top as a paper weight. "Hmm? Do you think this weird statue over
here is worth anything?" he asked as he picked it up.
Mana turned around to see too late. "No don't touch-!"
The room began to shake and the ground split where Mana was
standing. She didn't even have time to scream as she fell in.
***
CLUNK!
"Hey! I think I hit something!" exclaimed Ryuu as he began to dig
faster. He managed to unearth what appeared to be and old treasure
box. He began poking and proding it. "I wonder how do we open this
without damaging it or us?"
***
A man with a pale complexion and hair ran into the room that
Golbez's group was in without looking at the others. He jumped in
after Mana.
"Who was that?" asked Alex. "He looked like he was dressed to kill,"
he commented again before diving into the hole he accidentally
opened.
Mana blinked slowly. Her head really hurt. She could feel dead blood
trickling down her head.
"Can you get up?" she heard a male voice ask. It sounded so familiar.
Her eyes slowly came into focus. Someone was kneeling above
her. "Cecil?" she asked as he helped her stand. No! How was that
possible? Cecil is dead! She took another look. He sort of looked
like Golbez as well in the dim light.
"Hurry, get up. It's coming!" he warned urgently.
"What is?" she asked confused.
"The Guardian of this place. That guy woke him up!"
explained 'Cecil'.
"Cecil?" Mana asked again.
"Mana!" Alex called out. "Are you all right?"
Mana turned around to see Alex running towards her. "Yeah, I'm fine.
This guy helped me," she said pointing behind her.
"What guy?"
No one was there anymore.
"I saw a guy dive down here but it looks like he isn't here anymore.
Come on let's get you out of here," he said.
"Too late," said a cold, empty voice. Mana and Alex turned around.
Black mist in the shape of a man was walking towards them and
getting larger until it took a monsterous form.
Mana pulled out her spear.
"Infidels! How dare you enter here! All must die as punishment!" A
misty hand started to reach for the dragoon girl. She tried to block
it only to have her hand and weapon go through it. It seemed to have
a solid hold on her throat though and pulled her off the ground and
threw her across the room.

treasure chest, Incentus went off by himself. A clearing in the north
west corner of the valley intrigued him. He briskly "walked" over to
the area, stopping when he saw a large group of luminous watery pools,
surrounding a marbled stoned statue, figured of a divine princess,
water flowing out of her mouth in continual flow. 'Interesting' he
thought to himself. He inspected the statue to find the letters E R S
B engraved on the body of the statue.

The natural sereness of the environment made him start reflecting on
things. 'They are a nice group of people, to welcome a stranger, much
less a suspicious Black Mage such as I, into their group without
thought' he thought to himself. But he wasn't stupid, and decided to
pay attention to Golbez and the Dragoon Girl that seemed to be
conversing with him quite a bit before their departure.

A few moments later he past out in a deep sleep

"Hmmm.. Interesting..." Eric looked over the writing on the wall.
"What, you understand it?" Chrissa asked.
Eric grinned back. "Nope."
Carasha sighed, almost finding no interest in her surroundings,
until Alex moved the statue. <Crap, its rigged!!> She had rushed
towards the crack Mana had fallen into, but someone else had jumped
in. She couldn't see who, and when she caught sight of Alex and Mana
came out, the stranger was gone.
But a monster was there to take his place. "Mana!" Chrissa called to
try and warn the dragoon, but it was too late as she was tossed
across the room. "Oh, you'll pay for that!" Chrissa called, about to
jump.
"Wait!" Carasha grabbed onto the captian, tossing some shurikens
(sp?) at the Shadow monster. They sailed straight through him. "It
looks like regular weapons don't work... Just stand aside!!" Carasha
suddenly had her arms out infront of her, chanting vigorously in a
strange language. "FLAME!!!" she suddenly shouted, as the room seemed
to turn a red from the light of the fire that erupted underneath the
monster.
"Man, I wish I knew magic..." Eric muttered.

Was the monster laughing? The flame just made him grow more.
"No..." Mana managed to choke out. "You'll blow us up as well!"
"Do you know something we don't?" said Alex. "Man, why couldn't this
be a monster you can chop into pieces? It just had to be something
like this!"
***
Ryuu kept on looking at the treasure box suspiciously while poking
it with a stick.
"I don't think poking it with a stick is going to help," commented
Runic.
"Yeah I know but I can't think of another way to open it. I can't
tell if this box is rigged. We don't want any accidents do we?"
***
The ceiling caught fire and started to burn.
"There's a little bit of some kind of gas in this room." She was
trying to break free from the strange grip. "Ice! We need ICE!"
"INFIDELS!" the monster roared. "How dare you enter this sacred
place?"
"How come we get stuck with the monster? No one else seems to be
having trouble with their dig!" protested Alex.
"You all will burn!" The creature lifted Mana higher into the air,
closer to the ceiling of fire.
"EEYAAAAAAA!" she screamed.

"Crap, that's not working Carasha!!!" Chrissa shouted out, getting
away from some wild flames.
"No duh!!" Carasha hissed back. She was seriously mad that her fire
attack was not only unaffective, but was used back against them.
"Just use some ice magic, like Mana said!!" Eric coughed.
"I don't know any ice magic, darnit!!! But this is good enough!!"
Carasha started chanting under her breath again. "FLOOD!!" she called.
From behind, a torrent of water rushed at the shadow monster. "Lets
see you throw that back!!" Carasha taunted.

The fires were put out and for a second it looked like everyone was
going to drown but then the room was only covered in thick mist.
Mana fell down from where the monster had held her, intent on
roasting her.
"EEEYYYYYYYAAAA!!!"
She was caught in the arms of the same person who helped her up
before. "You really do get into a lot of trouble don't you?" he
chuckled.
Mana looked up. He looked so much like Cecil and Golbez it wasn't
funny.
"Cecil?" she tried again since this man had a lighter feel to him
than Golbez.
The man just smiled. "I'm glad to see everyone doing well in the
last six months."
Alex tried to wave the thick mist aside and overheard that last
comment made. "Yeah, we're doing really well," he said sarcastically.
***
"Okay everyone, stand back," Ryuu said finally as he pulled out a
giant staff. He lifted it over his head and brought it down hard
onto the treasure box. The box bounced once on the ground and opened
up spewing much dust.
Ryuu blinked in surprise and slowly moved closer to the treasure box
and looked inside.
"A scroll, a book and a knife?" said Runic as he peered over.
"Aww crud," cried Ryuu. "I was really hoping for something
cool...anyone else find anything cool?" he asked.
***
The room was covered in so much mist it was hard to see anyone or
anything.
"Where's the monster?" asked Mana.
"He's still here. The flood spell took him by surprise. His power is
based on fire. If we had hit him with an ice spell we would be
better off than now. Be careful. He is still mist and he can sneak
up on us," said 'Cecil'.
"How do you know this?" asked Mana who wasn't really sure what she
was seeing now. Her head was more confused than ever. If this was
Cecil..."Has Rosa seen you?"
'Cecil' was taken by surprise. "Err... no actually. And I would like
to keep it that way. It might be a shock for her."
Mana sighed and started to wander the mist looking for anyone and
specifically Golbez since he had ice magic. But he could take care
of himself. She was worried about everyone else. "Chrissa? Eric?
Anybody? Are you guys all right?" Mana thought she saw Chrissa just
ahead of her. She turned around to tell 'Cecil' but he was gone
again. When she turned around again to shout out Chrissa's name she
felt a cold grip around her. A grip she couldn't touch but could
feel. 'The guardian...!' She tried to run but she was trapped.
"So, which one will die? Which one of you infidels will die first?"
it asked as it cleared her sight and allowed her to see everyone in
the mist.
"That one you call Eric? The ninja girl? The boy who disturbed my
slumber? The sorceror? or your friend Chrissa?"
Mana just wanted to scream to attract attention but she couldn't.
'Help me please! Anyone!'
'Cecil' had disappeared again...

"Eric?! Mana?! Guys?!" Chrissa called, straining her eyes through
the mist. She could barely see three feet infront of her, so she was
walking slowing around. "Guys?!
Suddenly a hand from behind grabbed her shoulder. " AIII!!" she
suddenly screamed.
"Boo!!" Eric laughed.
"Eric, that isn't funny!!" the captian hissed at her brother. "We
gotta go find the others."
"Jeez, you're just as much fun as that grumpy ninja." Eric groaned
loudly.
"Just because you're not in sight, doesn't mean I can't HEAR you." A
cold voice seemed to cut across the fog.
"Carasha, we're over here!!" Chrissa tried to figure out which
direction the ninja's voice was coming from.
"I know, hush up!!!" Carasha shot quickly, the voice seeming to come
from another direction. "The monster is still out there, and you're
just asking him to come up and attack you!"

Carasha had been using her image spell and moving around a lot. She
didn't know where the monster was, and she wasn't going to be very
relaxed until she knew where it was.

---------------------

"Hold there, Ryuu. Even the smallest things can be considered
treasures to some people." Edward said, picking up the book and
flipping through it a bit. "Not to mention, I haven't really found
anything other then a blue brooch, which is quite dirty."

Golbez's sinister gaze was unseen, even by any who could see through the thick
mist. The sorcerer was helmeted, the horned headpiece giving his entire
figure a palpable aura of fear and intimidation. The cold was this creature's
weakness apparently. Now, he had only to find the source.

His glowing eyes scanned the mist. For a moment, all he could see was
fleeting shapes. They could have been a figure -- one of his companions or
they could've been figments of his imagination. Then he saw it. A wraithlike
figure near him in the mist. The source of this dark fog. The guardian
itself.

The sorcerer drew in his power, reaching out to the forces of the elements
around him. A Black Wizard, Golbez could tap the forces of the world to
unleash devastating effects. Here, he would do no less than what was
necessary. Cold winds began to circulate around him, gathered forth by his
call. Small bits of frost formed on his armor, only to vanish almost
instantly. With a strong, forceful motion, Golbez thrust his arms forward.
Blue beams of cold and ice flew from his fingertips. The ice magic pierced
the mist and shot straight into the wraith.

With much of the mist around him cleared away by the spell, Golbez glanced
about to get a better stock of his surroundings. That's when he saw the
familiar man.

The man stood about the same height as Golbez, yet his features were
unerringly familiar. He had the same eyes, the same face, the same hair...

"Cecil?" Golbez asked suspiciously, advancing on the person.

Mana was relieved that she was finally free of the monster's grip.
She had to agree with Alex on the part where guardians should be
things you are able to just slash at. She coughed a bit and with
most of the mist clearing away she got a better look at the man
standing in front of her. The man that Golbez had called Cecil as
well. She took a good look at him. 'So Golbez thinks this guy looks
like Cecil too? But he looks just like Golbez as well. Could he be
related to them? Maybe another Lunarian?'
'Cecil' heard the name being called and turned around to face Golbez
and gave Golbez a hard look that Cecil had never shown.
"You don't believe that do you?" he stated. "You're still quite
strong now. Time has not let your power diminish at all. I'm not
surprised, being who you are of course."
Mana noticed 'Cecil' holding onto what appeared to be the size of a
child's soccer ball. "What's that you are holding?"
'Cecil' just realized that people could see him clearly now and gave
a quick look around for an escape. He tossed the ball to Mana who
barely managed to catch it in time.
"Don't let the others touch it - especially not Rosa or Chrissa. The
consequences would not be good. It's cursed. You can't use white
magic anymore right? It's been sealed?"
Mana's mouth hung open in shock.
"Then you should be fine. That's what you are looking for. I just
found it for you," he said. "Ah, there it is!" he dusted something
off and then hit it hard with his fist. A door opened in the wall.
"This is the exit for this room. It will take you to the outside.
It's a lot easier than climbing back up that hole," he pointed out.
He had a point and while he was talking, Mana just observed him some
more. His voice sounded slightly different from the Cecil she knew.
He also seemed more blunt. His hair was shorter than Cecil's was and
his eyes had the more piercing glare like Golbez's.
'I've lost my mind,' Mana thought as she pinched herself. 'But Cecil
can't be here. He's dead. Garret and I...'
Looking back at Golbez in an observant manner he finally
stated, "You can go out the easy way or the hard way. I really don't
care." He walked into the dark exit and held a fireball in his hand
to light the way.
Alex scratched his head. "All this trouble for a dusty old soccer
ball?"
Mana looked at everyone and then the way she fell in. "It doesn't
look stable to climb back up. I'm going to follow him. He helped me
twice so he can't be too bad." She walkd after 'Cecil' and
asked, "Hey, you can use black magic and you're not wearing Paladin
clothes. Cecil couldn't use black magic unless he was possesed
by..." she froze in her tracks.
The man sighed and carefully grabbed her hand. "I am not going to
hurt you. Believe me. If I wanted you dead, you already would be."
"What game are you playing?" she asked.
"I am not playing anything. I am just observing with a little
intervention now and then to speed things along."
Mana looked down at her hand that he was holding. He had the same
feeling of power as Golbez.
"Who are you? What did you gain in death?"
The man didn't answer and kept leading her along through the dark
path.
There was a sinister laughter ahead of them. Mana could see the
outline of a big monster ahead of her. She tried to get free
of 'Cecil's' grip but he now held onto her hand firmly.
The monster spat out a large fireball that could not be dodged in
the narrow tunnel.
'Cecil' didn't even blink as he litterally slapped the fireball back
at the monster destroying it.
Mana was in shock and awe. "How did you do that?"
"I had a strict teacher," he replied with some bitterness. "Come on,
hurry, I don't want to be under the gaze of Golbez any longer than I
have to. It's annoying and we still got a ways to go. Take a good
look at the walls. You might find it helpful. I'll lead you safely
ahead so don't worry about looking in front."
Mana looked behind her and wondered what the others thought of this
turn of events.

"If that is the great hero Cecil I've heard about, I'm VERY
disappointed." Carasha huffed. "Anyway, I thought he was dead?"
"He.... was...." Chrissa started. "I don't understand it.. He looks
like Cecil, and in a way, he doesn't."
"And the Cecil I know was a lot nicer." Eric added.
".. We're talking about the same Cecil whom put a bounty on all the
Dragoons?" the female captain pointed out.
"Tch.. So we still don't know whether we're dealing with a good guy
or a bad guy, even if it is Cecil." the ninja shook her head.
"Well, he did take care of that one creature.." Chrissa
shrugged. "We might as well follow since he's leading us out."
The three agreed, and followed behind Mana and 'Cecil'.

'Cecil's' grip on Mana's hand became more firm with every comment
the group made about him.
Mana was slightly nervous. She had the feeling that he had the urge
to strike at them for those comments.
"I hate Eblan ninjas," he muttered. "They're all the same, like
Edge..."
Mana smiled slightly. That sounded like a comment Kain would've said.
'Wait, if this is Cecil, then Kain...but if Cecil changed this much
then what is Kain like now?' she thought.
A darker personality Kain was something she did not like the idea of.
"Um, why don't you want to see Rosa?" she asked.
"I think that answer is obvious," he said in a flat tone.
"Um, okay, do you know about Kain?"
"Kain's dead."
"Oh."
"Man, this place is so tight and annoying," complained a familiar
voice.
"Well at least this way we don't awaken the guardian. We have to get
there before those goody two shoes do, Morryigan."
'Morryigan? Then the other voice must be Oskar!' thought Mana. 'Oh
no!' Her grip on the artifact 'Cecil' had given her became tighter.
"I see a light up ahead," said Oskar. "It's Golbez! He's here!" he
said upon looking at 'Cecil'.
"Hey! Who are you calling Golbez?" he asked slightly annoyed and
threw his fireball at Oskar who dodged it.
"Then we're too late," said Morryigan. "Oh well, if we can't have
the treasure then you can't either."
Oskar began to chant something and the tunnel began to shake and
fall apart around the group.
"See ya suckers!" Morryigan laughed as she and Oskar made their
escape.
'Cecil' let go of Mana's hand and began to make curious passes in
the air. "Get out of here, all of you now! The exit is just ahead.
Just follow that dim light in front of you."
"What about you?" asked Mana urgently.
"I'll be fine. Just go or else everything you worked for will be in
vain."
"How did you--?"
"Time for chit chat later girl," said Alex as he grabbed her hand
and started running out with the others.
As everyone finally made it outside to a clearing the tunnel
collapsed.
Mana put down the artifact and started to dig into the rubble. "He
was still in there!" she said desperately. "He was in there!!!"
Alex looked around. "Those two who caused this mess can't have
gotten far..." He saw some movement not to far off. "There they are!"
"Morryigan, we got unwelcome company."
"Joy."
Mana picked up the artifact again and yelled at them. "You just
killed a man! Why did you do that? What do you have against us? What
did we ever do to you?"
Morryigan shrugged. "Hey girl, don't take it so personally all
right? A job's a job."
"A job's a job?" Mana repeated furiously. "You just killed someone
and you don't care?!"
"Why should I?" Morryigan replied almost bored. "I killed him, so
what? I'm going to kill you and not care either." Morryigan jumped
up in the air towards Mana with her short sword ready for the kill
and Oskar started chanting some random attack spells to throw at
everyone else.

Carasha jumped infront of Morryigan quickly, blocking the blow with
her own dagger. "Tch, lowering yourself to a cold-blooded mercenary?"
she hissed, recognizing Morryigan as a ninja as well. "Dishonorable."
she gave a roundhouse kick towards Morryigan.
"Mana, you know these two?" Chrissa asked, before chanting some
words. "WALL!!" she casted over herself, and started casting it on
some of the others as well.
"You all handle those guys, I'll try to get to Cecil!" Eric said,
quickly working to clear away the rocks that had blocked off the
tunnel.

"There is no such thing as honour for an assassin," Morryigan stated.
"Yeah," replied Mana. "That woman - Morryigan, she started this
mess. She kidnapped Rosa and turned Cecil against us."
"Hey, not my fault Cecil believed me over his best friend," said
Morryigan.
Something in Mana snapped. "You shut up! How dare you!"
Morryigan only laughed while she sparred with Carasha. "Oh did I hit
a nerve?"
Mana pulled some paper from her pocket and quickly wrote some words
on them and threw them at Oskar and Morryigan. The paper exploded on
contact.
***
Ryuu's head perked up.
"What was that noise?" asked Runic.
"Probably some dynamite going off," lied Ryuu.
***
Oskar was picking at his now ruined shirt. "What kind of Magic is
that?" he stared at the dragoon girl in curiousity.
Mana just tightened her grip on the artifact.
Morryigan backed down. "Oskar, we're outnumbered and I don't like
this place. Let's retreat for now."
"Good call," he replied as Morryigan threw a smoke bomb and they
made their escape.
Mana let out a sigh of relief, put down the artifact and began
helping Eric try to clear the rubble. After what seemed like
forever, she fell on her knees and began to cry. "It's hopeless. The
whole tunnel is collapsed. It has to be..." Mana put her hands to
her heart. It hurt so much, she began to have trouble breathing.
"Come on," said Alex carefully. "I think I see some people digging
in the distance. Let's just find Rosa and the others and get out of
here."
Mana nodded and picked up the artifact again. This plan of hers
already cost a life. How many more lives will it cost in the future?
She wondered how much Ryuu knew about what she was planning and she
kept her gaze on the ground to avoid looking at anyone as they moved
along.
****
Ryuu got up as he saw the other group come towards them. "HEY! You
guys look like you fell in a hole or something."
Mana didn't say anything.
Rosa got up and quickly headed towards them. "Are you all right?"
she asked in concern.
"Yeah...just fine..." muttered Mana.
Ryuu bounced up to Mana. "What's that you got there? Looks like a
funny soccer ball." He tried to take it from Mana but there was a
bright flash of light and Ryuu was sent flying into the mountain.
"Ryuu!"
"Owie owie!" Ryuu rubbed his head.
"He said Chrissa and Rosa shouldn't touch it. I assumed because they
are aligned with White Magic but you aren't are you Ryuu?" asked
Mana.
Ryuu looked at Golbez and then back at Mana. "Of course not," he
said rather quickly. "I just know magic tricks, not real magic." He
got up and dusted himself. "If we are finished here, I will clear
things with the officials and we can go home." As a side thought,
Ryuu asked, "Who's 'he'?"
"No one," Mana replied quickly.

Mana said nothing during the trip home. She was too lost in her
thoughts. Ryuu on the other hand was having a great time chatting
with Incentus.
"You look like a cute little kid. You look like a Black mage. Are
you? What kind of tricks do you know?" Ryuu found Incentus just
fascinating.
When the group got back to Baron Castle and entered the main hall,
Ken went out to greet them and escort them in so that none of the
soldiers knew about the deception. When Rosa entered the room, the
spell on Garret was broken.
"So you guys find anything cool?" asked Garret.
"Edward found something cooler than I did," said Ryuu as he put the
chest he found on the table.
Mana just put the ball 'Cecil' had given her on the table and left
the room without a word.
Ken looked at Golbez with a disgusted look and followed after her.
Garret just blinked in confusion.
"Hey! Mana, wait please..." Ken called out after her.
"Leave me alone please," she said without slowing down or turning
around.
Ken frowned. He went back to the Main Hall and waited for Golbez to
make his exit. He was going to follow that bastard until he got some
answers.
***
Mana sat outside in the courtyard looking at the full moon silently
crying. She looked at her hand that he held when he was escorting
the group outside. She could still feel his aura.
"He was real, not a dream..." She wondered if anyone told Rosa about
what had happened. She didn't feel up to it and didn't know what to
say. She remembered that he said he didn't want to see Rosa. The
Cecil Mana knew would run up to Rosa, hug her and never let her go.
After all Cecil did put the bounty on them just because Rosa went
missing and he thought that they had a hand in it.
"I wonder what it is liked to be loved so deeply?"
Unknown to Mana, 'Cecil' was just a few metres behind her observing
her quietly and Ken was looking over both of them and Ryuu was
watching all of them with a smile.

"Woo, I think I'm tired out!" Eric sighed, sitting down.
"Wore yourself out digging?" Edward smiled, looking over the brooch
he had found. "Actually, despite Ryuu's contridiction, I believe what
he found is much more interesting."
"Guys, do you know whats wrong with Mana?" Rosa asked. She had
noticed that Mana had been awfully silent on the way back.
"She.. um..." Chrissa started, trying to think up an explaination
without telling all that happened.
"She feels her dignity was shot when she fell into the hole."
Carasha suddenly spoke up. "Also, she was disappointed in the
findings at the dig sight, since these will hardly bring anything to
Baron."
"Really? I wouldn't think Mana would take it this badly..." Rosa was
defintely worried about her friend.
"She's like water, always changing." Carasha replied. "She'll be
fine."
"... Carasha, I was just wondering something." Eric suddenly
started. "... When you came and joined us, where were you heading? We
haven't even thought about taking you where you were going."
Carasha suddenly tensed up. "I was.. going to the dig sight as well,
so when we got there, I was planning on coming back anyway. Anyway,
who would leave the company of royalty?" she quickly answered.
Edward and Chrissa glanced at each other a moment, obviously
wondering whether to trust this oddly lucky story. Rosa herself was
also in doubt, but there wasn't anything they could really say.
Carasha hadn't threatened them at all yet. Chrissa knew that Carasha
was even willing to help them out in battle.
Carasha suddenly realized Ryuu was nowhere in sight. "I'll be
heading to bed then." she said, getting up and walking off. She was
still suspicious of that red-head, so where could he be?
"So.. what is this anyway?" Rosa looked over the round orb that Mana
had brought.
"Its a cursed orb, thats all I know." Chrissa shrugged. "Appearently
you or I shouldn't touch it at all."
"Where.. did you find it?" Rosa asked.
"Digging." Eric replied.
Rosa finally decided to stop asking, realizing the others weren't
going to give her any other useful answers.
