Baron, a place that the young man had heard much about, but a place
he never thought he would care to visit. He hated crowded places,
really, and he much preferred the smaller town of Mysidia, where at
least there were a few people with enough intelligence worth talking
to. Baron, however, seemed a place for those unenlightened ones who
sought for material wealth or a place in the strongest army in the
world.

"Chocobo feathers!" the young man found himself saying aloud, a curse
he had concocted on a whim, cursing himself for actually coming
here. However, perhaps the city of Baron's libraries would hold some
of the valuable information he sought to improve his skills. He was
a black mage, and a very gifted one at that. He had been successful
at a very young age, and by the time he reached his teenage years, he
considered himself superior to his instructors.

Since leaving his home, Cardigan Grey had visited many places, making
his living by hiring himself out for diverse jobs here and there. He
put his skills to work, capturing several bandits, and even working
for some less than lawful institutions, once going as far as to
assassinate an important political figure in Fabul. Of course, he
was not caught. He was too good to be caught.

Cardigan entered the gates, drawing more than one suspicious look
from the guards. While several black mages worked their way in and
out of the gates of Baron, very few were six feet six inches tall
with stringy black hair hanging from below their hats. Like many
black mages, Cardigan kept most of his face hidden by his oversized
pointed hat, but down below the darkness of his hat there always
loomed a wide smirk. The kind of smirk that says, "I am better than
you, and you just don't know it."

Cardigan stopped in the streets, surveying the city and wondering
where he might find the nearest library. "I'm hungry," Cardigan
said, and then he looked around but saw no apple trees. "Chocobo
feathers!" he said again, "I guess I'll have to find the inn."
Luckily, not far ahead was a building with a sign that said 'INN' in
big letters. "Wonder if this is it?" Cardigan asked himself with a
chuckle. He burst through the door just to see the people's reaction.

"No," Golbez admitted, "You are right. I cannot
gather enough evidence to convict him. Even if I knew
those who could support me, I have little reason to
think that they would support me."

He looked into Rosa's eyes. "This isn't a personal
grudge between he and myself over Mana. This is for
the sake of the kingdom. Your kingdom. Garret and
Ken both have threatened my person and since they were
in service to the Baron military when they did so,
they are subject to martial law. I am their commander
and superior and threatening me is a martial crime.
Should I be able to acquire the evidence, I request
your permission to bring them to military trial."

Edge blinked twice. Eric had certainly run off in a
hurry. But he was excited. The ninja grinned. He
liked the kid's spirit.

"Shall we?" he asked, offering his arm to his wife.

Rydia took it and smiled and together the two walked
down to the drawbridge to wait.

As they reached the drawbridge, the royal couple
spotted a lone rider approaching.

"I wonder who that could be?" Rydia wondered aloud.

Edge shrugged indifferently. "I donno. Some spoof
who thinks he is too good for the town, I guess." He
folded his arms across his chest and leaned up against
the wall.

(OOC: Continuation from Golbez)

The dark sorcerer turned and glanced out over the
front of the castle as he awaited Rosa's response.
Strange things had been going on lately, since his
brother's death. Garret acting out of order, strange
and new assaults upon the lives of himself and Mana
and likely Rosa as well, his own newfound ability to
strike another down with a mere thought. Golbez found
even himself slightly frightened by the prospect of
being able to cast his spells with power of thought
alone. He knew that, as a Black Wizard, his power was
virtually unparalleled in all the world, but he would
never have imagined this...

A moving figure caught his attention from below. One
lone woman was approaching the castle. Golbez could
feel considerable magic radiating off of the woman.
How strange...was she also a sorcerer? Golbez briefly
considered investigating. However, finishing the
matter with Rosa was more important right now.

Rosa nodded. "I see. Do as you see fit. I admit I do not know much
when it comes to military matters since Kain and Cecil..." she
paused for a bit before resuming, "handled those matters."
Rosa sighed. "Baron isn't mine - not alone. It belongs to everyone
who lives here therefore everyone must work together for its safety
and well being. I am going to assist in looking for the man that
pushed Mana off the balcony as well as for her. I am worried that a
strange man made off with her." With that Rosa left Golbez to his
own thoughts.

Amasa slowly turned around as he heard some commotion coming from
the entrance of the inn. Not really caring for the loud entrance he
turned his attention back to Kerse. "Now there is someone crying out
for attention."
Mana was a little shocked at the stranger who made a loud entrance.
She felt a dark power and wondered who it could be. After recovering
from the slight shock she giggled at Amasa's comment. "Well it does
keep things interesting doesn't it? ...He has considerable dark
power. I don't know if that is a good or bad thing..."
"Hmm....Not enough black mages in Baron these days but of course
Golbez makes up for that...Kerse...take a look at that stranger.
What do you make of him?"

~Tilanya~

As Tilanya continued to the drawbridge, two figures caught her eye.
One male, but she paid him little mind, for the green figure at his
side radiated a surprising amount of magic. She also sensed another
powerful magical being inside the castle, but she would attend to
that later. She didn't stop her chocobo until she was five feet from
both Rydia & Edge, but she dismounted quickly and gracefully. Once
her fingers left the beast, it dissapeared in a flash of yellow
light, back to the summoned land.

"So, you are the child prodigy that I have heard so much of." She
began, her green eyes focused intently upon Rydia. "You don't
remember me child, but I remember you quite well. You have your
mother's nose, and your father's eyes. But enough with the small
talk, my name is Tilanya Silvanas, I was one of the head council
within the village mist. Word has come that you have grown in power,
and if rumors are true, you are the most powerful this world has to
offer. Allow me the chance to disprove that theory. A summoner's
duel, not to the death, for I don't have any desire to kill anyone
today. Can you handle this, Summoner Rydia, or have the rumors been
misleading?"

((OOC: Oh, she is like the queen from Snow White, not Sleeping
Beauty, my mistake from the last post.))

"75,000 gold peices, but hard labor...I guess a few hundered will
do." Kerse drank the last of his liquor. He didn't even notice the
man bursting through the entrance until Amasa told him to look.
Kerse glanced in the corner of his eye, thats all he had to do. By
hight of the man and hat, it was obvious to him it was Cardigan.
Kerse had heard stories, though he felt Cardigan to not be a threat
to him. Kerse asked the waitress to bring him more to drink. "He is
a fool, pay no attention to him." Kerse knew however that if he came
over, that they would probly welcome him like they did him.

Cardigan continued into the inn, making sure to duck his head low
enough to prevent his tall hat from being knocked off in the
doorway. Not only was Cardigan tall, but his hat added to his height
made the length from his feet to the tip of the hat about eight feet
worth of height. Cardigan surveyed the faces as they turned to look
at him. He recognized a few people by their appearance, mainly from
various stories about Baron, though he had never personally dealt
with any of them.

"One specialty," Cardigan said, taking a seat at the bar between two
townspeople. One of them got up and moved further down the bar,
while the other seemed to afraid to move. Cardigan turned to regard
the one remaining, his eyes glowing from beneath the darkness of his
hat. He widened his smirk momentarily, and the man simply looked
away. Cardigan received his food then and strode over to a corner to
sit alone.

He then listened carefully to the various conversations around the
room, some of which interested him, while others he cared nothing
about. He used a minor enchantment to make his hearing better, so he
could catch most of what everyone was saying. He enjoyed his bowl of
soup, whatever was in it, as he listened.

Chrissa, as well as the other two mages, were also waiting at the
drawbridge and noticed the going ons. <Tilanya Silvanas? Of Mist? I
thought Rydia was the only survivor... She must have gotten out
somehow.> she thought to herself.
Eric soon came running back with a heavy load of things on his
back. "Hey, I'm ready for the tr-- Woah, what's going on here?"
".. This woman is challenging Rydia to a Summoner's Duel."
"Really? Okay, this might be fun to watch, but we gotta get going
to the mountain afterwards." he said, setting his things down.

---------------

"You haven't seen anyone leave the town?" Carasha asked the guards
at the gate of Baron.
"Nope! A lot of people have entered though." the first on said.
"Did anyone come in with Mana? Or at least in a pair of two?"
"Nah, can't say we saw Ms. Highwind come in." they said.
Carasha tried to figure this out. Whoever took her hadn't been
spotted outside town yet, but apparently there was no record of her
coming to town.
So she left the guards, proceeding into some of the buildings to
ask for help. But she had to slap her forehead when she entered.
Mana was right there! With two other people, in fact. She started
making her way to the table, when one of the security people stopped
her.
"Sorry ma'am, we've been asked that these people not be bothered."
he said.
"Oh heck with that. MANA!" Carasha called, trying to get the girl's
attention.

Rydia felt a chill. There was something about this woman she wasn't
so sure she liked. She swallowed.

"Hey, what gives?" Edge started toward Tilanya, "You think you can
come barging in here univited and challenge my wife to a duel?" He
started forward but Rydia grabbed his elbow.

The green-haired girl stepped forward until she was right in front of
Tilanya.

*****

Golbez turned and walked from the balcony. Perhaps putting Garret to
trial would have to wait. If someone of strong magic approached the
castle uninvited, he would have to investigate. And, it turned out,
someone was approaching. Quietly, the dark sorcerer cast a warp spell.

*****

"I...never had any desire to be recognized as the 'most powerful,'"
Rydia said softly, looking up into Tilanya's eyes, "Every monster I
tamed and every spell I learned after I met Cecil, I did so to help
him save us all from Zeromus. If you want to take the title of the
most powerful, then by all means, please take it. Now, I only want to
be known as Rydia, Summoner and Queen of Eblan."

The sound of footsteps echoed across the drawbridge, causing everyone
to turn around. From the castle, Golbez strode onto the bridge. As
he approached, the sorcerer levelled his stony gaze upon Tilanya.

"Who are you?" he asked calmly, "and why do you come to Baron Castle?"

Cardigan finished the last bit of his soup and took a gold coin from
his pouch, putting it on the table as a tip to the waitress. He
then wiped his mouth and stood up. He felt a strong magical
presence gathered in the same place outside, not far from his
current location, and he simply could not resist checking it
out. "Has to be more than one," said Cardigan. "No way any one
person is that powerful!"

The mage reached inside one of the many folds of his robes and
produced a wand. He waved it and cast a teleport spell on himself,
using the location of the magical power as a center. He made sure
to appear a good distance away so as not to disturb the gathering.
He found himself in an alley, looking at none other than Golbez and
the king and queen of Eblan, along with some other older woman who
seemed to have some power as well. He also noticed that there
seemed to be some confrontation.

Cardigan looked about him, and after he was sure no one saw him, he
cast an invisible spell on himself and quietly crept out of the
alley. He found a good post to lean against only a few yards away
from the conversation and listened intently. Perhaps these would
provide more interesting conversation than the folk in the inn.

Mana's head turned as she heard her name being called. "Carasha?
Hey! Come on over...." the girl stopped talking and her eyes glazed
over.
Amasa was having the same reaction. "Power...concentrated on one
spot....many people with power in one spot...." Amasa tossed some
money to the waiter. "Keep the change. Mana, let's go." He turned to
Kerse. "You interested in checking something out?" And since Carasha
seemed intent on following them..."You're probably going to come
along anyway...so let's get going or we might miss something
important!"
****

Rosa felt the surge of power too. "Looks like there is always a
commotion," she said to Edward. After briefly talking to every guard
she came by, she decided to head to where all the action is.

****

Garret was getting bored just slacking off so when he felt something
amiss, he jumped to the nearest battlement and peered
over. "Hmm...someone is challenging Rydia...come on Rydia!" he
whispered. "Kick their butt!" Garret was bored and it would be very
entertaining to see a summoner's duel.

****
Amasa magically concealled their presence as the approached the
scene. If Rydia needed help with the stranger he would be more than
happy to help. He then saw Golbez enter the scene and his blood
started to boil. Mana put her hand on Amasa's shoulder and gave him
a sad look that made him think twice about attacking Golbez right
now. "He's not worth it..." he told her before turning his attention
back to Rydia and the others. For some odd reason he cast a fire
spell and held it in his hand...

Kerse stood up and looked outside. "You gone on ahead, I want to
spend time alone now." Kerse went over to the bar and asked for a
jug of ale. He turned around and looked at Amasa and Mana "I will
see you again." Kerse started walking to the door and stopped next
to Carasha. He turned to her, nodded and walked on.

(Streets of Baron)

Kerse liked being alone during the night to think. Kerse walked
along the city wall tring to find a spot to rest. Kerse stopped and
looked up at the wall. <I'm not gonning to be able to find a place
to relax down here. It's too closed in.> Kerse set down his jug and
sword in sheather and looked around for a ladder. Kerse spot one
next to the house of Cid and grabbed it. He walked back to where he
left his stuff and set the ladder next to the wall. Kerse tugged it
alittle to make sure it was sturdy enough to take the weight of his
armor. He grabbed his sword and climb up to the top and set it down.
He went back down for a second time to grab his jug and climbed the
ladder again. Kerse looked out at the horizon. The sun was almost
down, the orange and purple sky was becoming black. Kerse grabbed
his swored and equiped it back around his waist. Kerse looked at the
castle. He noticed some people in front of the draw bridge. Kerse
took the cork off the jug and took a drink out of it. <That must be
who they were talking about.> Kerse sat down, and observed the
conflict, but not realy intrested in it.

~Tilanya~

"I did not ask if you desired such a title, or tried to claim it. If
you don't wish to accept this challenge today, then that is your
choice. But realize I can not proclaim myself most powerful until I
am sure of it." Tilanya responded, her green eyes staring right back
into the young summoner's. She then turned to Edge, about to retort
to his comments when Golbez made his arrival. It was then that she
noticed a crowd seeming to gather around the area, many of them
having some skills in the arcane arts.

"My name is Tilanya Silveras, and I have come here on a personal
matter that doesn't concern the kingdom." She replied to the
sorcerer. A small smirk then crossed her lips, her eyes faltering
from his slightly. "But it seems that everyone here is busy with
their own business, and probably doesn't think my request to be of
importance. You sir, you seem to be a leader here, perhaps I could
aide your little group in whatever it is that you are doing. Then,
perhaps I can attend to the summoner child."

((Golbez, Rydia, Edge, Everyone else around?))

Golbez frowned. "I am Golbez Harvey," he said to
Tilanya, with absolutely no emotion in his voice,
"Commander-in-Chief of the Baron military. Please
forgive my lack of courtesy, but some events here have
left us in a mild state of disarray. You'll also have
to forgive my suspicions, for many of the travelers
we've had in the past days have brought ill to this
country."

As he spoke, he felt a manifestation of magic not far
off. A warp, or similar spell had just been cast
nearby. He resisted the urge to investigate
immediately. Whatever it was, this woman seemed to
have more potential to be a threat.

"If you wish to aid us, the offer will be welcomed,"
he continued, "but you may be watched while you are
here."

Rydia had stepped back into Edge's arms and listened
intently to Golbez. After the sorcerer had finished
speaking, she looked at Tilanya, waiting to see how
the older woman would respond before saying anything.

Tilanya nodded in response to the man, her smirk being replaced with
what seemed to be a genuine smile. "I understand your suspicions,
and would expect nothing less from a well trained military power such
as Baron." She replied, noting herself the small spell cast in the
distance. Yet this didn't bother her, other's use of magic was none
of her concern. "What is the concerns that you have, and how might I
assist you?"

Carasha followed Mana and Amasa as they left the Inn. So that was
it? So they were just in the inn having a drink? And the a good deal
of the castle is worried about it?
When they arrived at the scene, it was looking like a duel was
about to go. And for some reason, Amasa had a fire spell ready. "You
think there's going to be some trouble?" Carasha raised an eyebrow,
then turned her attention back to Mana. "So what happened back
there? You know who pushed you off the balcony?"

-------------

Edward followed Rosa to the drawbridge, where everyone else seemed
to be gathering, but he stayed silent and let Golbez handle the
situation.
Eric seemed to be in thought for a moment, then he suddenly stood
up. "Madam Silveras?" he asked. "I was wondering.. With so few
summoners left after the Mist incident, why would it be important to
claim power over another? Shouldn't the few summoners left ban
together? Not challenge each other?"
Chrissa rubbed the back of her head. Not that she didn't feel her
brother didn't have a point, but that it may not be something
Tilanya would want to hear.

Tilanya turned to the young man, Eric, her face now devoid of
emotion. She looked directly at him, studying his face and attire,
before speaking. "My reasons are my own, that is all you need to
know." She replied, before her eyes turned to the one with the fire
spell prepared, then to the gathered crowd. Apparently, many if not
all of them wished to see the duel. Perhaps the crowd's hopes could
persuade the young summoner to accept her challenge after all, for
nothing else than to provide the people with what they wanted.

Cardigan remained in the shadows, his invisibility spell still in
effect. This situation seemed on the verge of explosion, and
Cardigan did not know which side he should take, if any. He decided
to remain neutral for the moment, prepared to intervene if necessary
and profitable for him. He figured that someone probably would have
noticed him by now, so he dispelled his invisibility and took a few
steps forward, leaning against a sign post to watch the situation.

'Perhaps there is some profit to be had from this woman,' Cardigan
thought. 'Perhaps I could help her gain the desired confrontation
with the summoner Rydia... for a price of course. I won't care who
wins. I'll be long gone before the actual dual even takes place,
but I have my ways of setting things up...'

Golbez silently looked at the woman for a long moment.
If she recognized his name, she had given no sign.
That she wouldn't recognize the name of Golbez
surprised the sorcerer, though like all of his
emotions, he kept the surprise well-concealed.

"I do not believe you will be able to aid us, Lady
Summoner," Golbez said stonily, "If you wish to remain
in Baron for a time, I will insure that you are kept
comfortable. However, unless we require your aid at
some point, I must ask that you do not stay long."

Rydia looked up at Golbez suddenly. Though the
sorcerer still greatly frightened her, the young
summoner had come to respect the dark man. Since his
reawakening, Golbez had seriously been attempting to
reform and he was doing well. However, Rydia saw what
Golbez and possibly many others couldn't. Golbez was
living under his brother's shadow and whether
intentionally or not, the sorcerer refused to come out
of that shadow. Once he emerged, Golbez would be a
much better man for it.

Now, she wanted to help Golbez, not only as far as
Baron was concerned, but also to help him come out
from underneath Cecil's shadow. Golbez could do
anything -- his time before his sleep had proven that.
He was limiting himself now. Why?

To start helping him, she had to help herself. Though
she truly had no desire to duel with this woman,
perhaps doing so would help her find a better way to
pull Golbez into the light.

"Lady Tilanya," she said, turning her gaze defiantly
to the older woman's eyes, "I accept your challenge."

Her eyes grew colder as Golbez denied her offer to help, a great
insult to her that her power was not wanted. Though he was very
proper in what he said, and the tone of his voice, she still didn't
have to like it. She would have voiced this opinion had Rydia's
defiant voice caught her ear. A slow grin spread across her face, as
she again turned to face the younger summoner. "Splendid, this
should be quite fun." She said, a light in her eyes shone forth, one
of joy at the prospect of the fight. "Tell me, where do you wish for
the test to begin? For it is obviously too crowded here, and I don't
think we want any innocent people injured" She asked of Rydia,
ignoring everyone else within the area.

Eblan ninjas were so nosy!
Amasa hid his dissatisfaction at the fact that Carasha decided to
follow Mana around. "A basic fire spell will be of no help to Queen
Rydia. From what I know, she has the power of Bahamut. There is
absolutely no chance for the other summoner to even have a chance of
beating Rydia - that is unless Rydia holds back her full power. I
suspect the latter will most likely happen given what I heard about
the Eblan queen's personality."
Mana was worried. Any friend of Rosa was a friend of hers and she
didn't want Rosa to be more sad that something happened to another
one of her friends. "Rydia...will she be all right? She just can't
hold back! She'll get hurt! That other summoner is serious!"
Amasa's face didn't show what he was thinking. He let the fire spell
float on its own while he started to prepare for the instance that
something might go wrong. He looked at Mana. "I promise I'll do my
best to make sure no one you care about is hurt during this
duel....even Golbez."

====

"Ken! Lookie at this mean old witch who is bullying Rydia! Kick her
butt Rydia!" Ryuu cheered while watching the fire in his fireplace.
Ken came up and hit him on the head. "She can't hear you dope."
"That's not the point. It's the thought that counts."
"There is something wrong...we should head back to the castle as
soon as Eric and his companions leave for his quest to be a paladin."
"That's right," Ryuu nodded, his voice and personality becoming
serious. "We have a mission to do..."

====

Garret leaned over to get a better view. Personally he didn't care
who won as long as he was enjoying the show. His gaze suddenly
turned elsewhere. Amasa may have cloaked who ever was near him from
view but being half demon, he could smell a familiar
scent. "Ahh...that's where you are Mana..."

====

Rosa was about to voice her opinion but Golbez had already spoken
what she was thinking. Instead the Queen went over to Rydia and with
a whisper, encouraged her to win.
"Madam Silveras, after this duel, I shall not accept any more
disruptions as these. This country is busy with other affairs and we
cannot afford more disruptions."

All the while, Felistia and Incentus were standing at the bridge.
Wondering what on earth was going on, Incentus was muttering
something under his breath. *well, so what if they're master
Summoners, they've nothing on me* Felistia walked upto him and hugged
his arm. As she proceeded to speak a light expression fell upon her
face and she smiled peacefully.

"What's up with you Incentus, you seem a little different than a few
moments ago?" suggested Felistia.

Incentus gave a strange look back as he looked down at his arm and up
at her, and down again, and up at her.

"I'm just thinking is all, none of your business" replied Incentus,
with a snigger in his voice and a pompous type attitude about
himself.

His eyes were lightly dimmer than they would normally be, and his
manner suggested he was a little uncomfortable by the attraction.

Felistia let go of his arm and then smiling expression that covered
her face disappeared. Incentus was left with a peaceful Felistia to
talk to.

"I'm gonna miss you, ya know. It's been ages since we've talked and
now you're heading off again! and right back to the place where i
came from! Look what you've done i'm getting all teary-eyed now" said
Felistia. And sure enough she started to cry. "I'm gonna miss you"
she said again. Soaking up the tears with her handkerchief she
stopped and a smile entered her face. "Doesn't mean we can't have a
little fun now though, right?" and with that, she jumped onto him and
started tickling him.

"Enough of that" he chuckled, "that's enough, now" stated Incentus.
"Yeah, i guess it is" she replied. and she stopped. As is evident
both were rather separate from the impression the Summoners had on
the rest of the party. But they enjoyed it that way. No sense in
being serious now?

Tilanya nodded to Rydia, allowing her to head out first to the chosen
battle. She then turned her attention to Rosa, her eyes taking in
all of the other queen before her.

"With all due respect your highness, this matter does not concern you
nor anyone of your people. I fail to see how this is a hindrance to
your plans, but I apologize if it is. After the duel, I would like
to speak with you if you would grant an old woman your audience."
She responded, her tone serious yet polite. Tilanya knew she was the
queen, and had a good deal of respect for her as well. Tales of her
white magic mastery had reached her ears even when she lived alone,
and the one thing she respected was power.

With that being said, she too began to walk the well worn path
towards the city limits, Rydia but a green spot walking ahead along
the horizon now.

Runic entered the Cave of Mist from the Village Mist side, heading
towards Baron. He made his way through the cave easily. The
enemies inside were no match for him at all. It took no time for
him to reach the exit. He was about to leave when he heard a noise
behind him. He turned, with a very unsettling look on his face. He
no longer showed the compasion for his friend like he did in the
past.

"Alex," Runic said surpised, "Long time no see... Where have you
been?"

"Don't bother with the act," Alex shouted at Runic, "I know what you
did... I was there."

"What ever do you mean?" Runic giggled sarcastically, walking
slowely towards a large crevas in the wall.

"I know you killed him! Why did you have to kill him..."

"You know nothing!" Runic shouted in anger, "I thought you were my
friend. Why are you doing this."

"Don't give me that bull..."

Before Alex could finish his sentence, an arrow struck him from
behind, piercing his chestplate all the way through. Runic ran to
Alex and caught him before he fell.

"...Runic..." Alex muttered, "I'm sorry..."

Runic looked down at him and stared for a moment, then
replied, "Don't be," as he pressed a dagger through his back,
killing him instantly. A man in a black robe, somewhat resembling
the prophet that had threatened him in his past, came out from the
shadows.

"What now, sire?"

"Now I am to make my way to Baron. As for you," he said as he
grabbed his sword, "Your assistance is no longer required."
Runic quickly unshethed his weapon and stuck it into the man in the
robe. He then pulled his weapon and struck him again, sending him to
the floor in a bloody mess. Runic used the mans robe to wipe the
blood from his blade. He then grabbed Alex's sword and struck the
man a third time, leaving the weapon where it struck.

Runic left the cave and headed for Baron...

Tilanya's face held no emotion as she stood upon the open field,
about ten feet from her opponent. She paid no attention to the crowd
that chose to follow her to the field, and waited patiently for them
to form a circle around herself and Rydia.

"We shall duel using the rules set by the forefathers of Mist. This
is non-lethal combat, and no summons are to be brought that kill
instantly. The use of curative magic and any items during the duel
is also prohibited. Black magic is permitted, but as before nothing
to deal death." She stated, her voice carrying across the field and
reaching all the ears that had gathered.

"One opponent is to bring forth and hold a single summons in this
world, while the other uses her other summons and magic to force the
beast back to it's home. Failure to do so means a victory for the
one controlling the summons. If a summon is beaten, the roles shall
be reversed and the one who controlled the previous monster shall do
battle with the opponents. This shall go on until either one
combatent falls or runs out of useable summons." She completed, her
gaze never wandering from Rydia.

"We need one from the crowd to decide the roles, one with no
alligeance or greivance with either combatent, and a healer to
administer aide after the contest. I ask that such a person or
persons step into the circle and let themselves be known. Until
then, I suggest you prepare yourself young one, for I shall." She
finished, withdrawing from a pouch a bottle of liquid. One glance
from the experienced adventurer could tell it to be an elixer, it's
magic restoring Tilanya to her utmost strength for the upcoming
challenge.

Golbez stepped forward. The sooner he could end this
duel, the better it would be for Baron. And he
harbored no special heart for either duelist. "I will
mediate this contest," he said stonily.

Rydia swallowed hard. She wondered what Golbez's
approach meant. She knew he kept Baron's best
interests in mind. Perhaps this, he felt, would have
something to do with Baron's welfare.

She tried her best to keep from getting nervous and
watched Tilanya intently as she waited for the healer
to step forward.

Rosa was very apprehensive about this whole duel. What was the point
besides inflating someone's ego?
The Queen of Baron stepped forward.

"Should anything happen that causes anyone injury, I will heal them."

***

Garret rubbed his nose as he peered over from his point of view.
There was a strange wind blowing...

***

Ken was sharpening his sword while Ryuu kept watching the fireplace
with intense interest.

"OOOOHHH this is sooo ...." the red head was at a loss for words.

"Tense? Wrong? Irrelavent?"

"How can you say that? Such a display of power might attract
unwanted attention to Baron. What's HE going to say when HE finds
out?"

Ken shrugged. "We can't do anything right now..."

***

Mana was worried but also very curious. Amasa kept her back with an
unintentional glare. "Don't do anything to comprimise the
situation..."
What was the man thinking? He was tense about something...what was
it?

Tilanya could not help but let a small smile creep upon her face as
Golbez stepped forward to oversee the duel. When Rosa stepped
forward, this surprised Tilanya some. Having not been for the duel,
she didn't expect the queen to participate in any way. But, that
suited her just fine. Her eyes fell back to Rydia, and she could
almost see the nervousness within her eyes. Tilanya's own eyes
betrayed no such emotion.

"Sir Golbez, it falls upon you to chose who shall be on the attack
first, and who shall fight the summon." She said, her robes
billowing slightly in the breeze.

((Ok, battle starts on your call Golbez.))

Runic was making his way to Baron in no time. On his way, he saw a
crowd in the distance. He decided to see what it was and headed in
the direction of the crowd.

There seemed to be a duel of some sort going on. He saw two
opponents in the center of the crowd, both staring at each other
emotionless.

<"Should anything happen that causes anyone injury, I will heal
them.">

'The Queen!' Runic thought to himself, 'I cannot remember the last
time I had seen her. I have thought often about her.' Runic made
his way to the front of the crowd.

<"Sir Golbez, it falls upon you to chose who shall be on the attack
first, and who shall fight the summon." She said, her robes
billowing slightly in the breeze.>

Something overcame Runic when he was in her presence. He was not
sure what it was he had felt though. He decided to stick around and
see what happened, and perhaps hed get to speak with the Queen
afterwards.

Golbez nodded. "Very well, then," he said, "Tilanya,
you may summon first."

Rydia braced herself, preparing to see what form of
creature her opponent would summon forth.

~Tilanya~

Tilanya nodded her head to Golbez in response, before turning to
Rydia and offered the much younger opponent a bow of respect. "I
expect you to handle yourself well Rydia, your mother always did."
She said, her green eyes almost smiling at her opponent.

However, all emotion quickly drained from Tilanya's face as she
began her summons. The day's sun slowly darkened, and a chill rose
up from the ground, enveloping everyone in it's icy grip. Moments
later, right before the gathered crowd, a single sphere of white
smoke began to grow from the air before the summoner. Quickly
expanding, the smoke became a thick mist that snaked around the
ground like a river of white, bringing with it a cold that stung the
ankles of anyone standing too close. From within it's now large
center, a bulge expanded, before two enourmus wings, spanning thirty
feet across, took a menacing shape. The sound of wind and water
echoed across the plains in a massive roar as the mighty dragon's
head broke out of the egg like sphere in the center. Taking it's
final form, it towered over everyone in the area, it's head easily
as tall as the towers in the castle not too far off. Eyes of the
purest white locked upon the green summoner below, while sending a
chill across the landscape.

As the dragon stood tall, awaiting an order from the one who
summoned her, Tilanya let another smile appear upon her face. "Show
me you can overcome your past, and defeat that which took your
mother."

Rydia pursed her lips in determination. After the Chocobo, the Mist
Dragon was one of the first creatures that had given Rydia its power.
The green-haired girl knew quite a bit about the dragon.

Now that she was in the duel, she didn't want to lose. And therefore,
she would do what was necessary to win. That didn't mean calling the
god, Bahamut, down from the heavens just yet. She knew the value of
waiting till the right moment.

However, she knew one could keep her side afloat for quite some time.

"Can you help me, Lady?" the girl whispered.

"Of course," the feminine voice reached Rydia's mind.

"Then," Rydia said definitively, "come forth."

The air shimmered and swirled, motes of light materializing in the air
and dancing about to form a female figure. With an abrupt, brilliant
flash, the lights vanished and, in their place stood, wielding mighty
blades, Asura, the Three-Headed Queen of the Monsters.

OOC: Should Rydia attack first or does that go to Tilanya since Rydia
issued the summon?

bic: Rosa was standing off in the shadows watching as the two
summoners were getting ready to duel. She was very nervous and
confused about why this all needed to start happening right now. She
knew that she was afraid someone would get hurt, but she also
understood that was why she needed to stay close.

'I need to be here to heal the wounded...I don't want anyone getting
fatal injuries or something...'

She gulped as the mist began to develop. She could barely see the
two, so she squinted and leaned in closer. She held her breath.

Of course, Incentus had no intention of going over to the Summoner
battle like sheep. "Psh.. don't know what the big deal is, they're
ONLY summoners. Did you ever see summoners save the world?" in a very
proud and arrogant stance. "Actually.." interjected Felistia "None of
that..." butted in Incentus. And a silence filled the air. *I wonder
what's taking Eric so long?* thought Incentus *is he waiting for this
ordeal to finish?*

Meanwhile, Felistia had gripped onto Incentus arm and lay her head on
his shoulder. His only reply was o_O and ^O^ and :) and :D [if he
could be startled, under the black cloak he was wearing] But didn't
mind.

"You like?" she asked. "Well..." he replied. And the "fun" continued
with them for a while.

What was really troubling Incentus in mind was his ordeal at his home
town of Mysidia. *have I been back since then?* he thought. And a
look of concern came over his face. He knew that Felistia wasn't
accompanying him. She was staying with her White Mage leader to learn
some technique to be White Mage. And what did Eric's team know of
what was going on there? *It certainly isn't peaceful... like it was,
before* he thought. Reminiscing.

As if a blizzard spell had been cast, a chill came over Incentus,
covering him and Felistia with a need for comfort. They drew closer,
and it felt as if their Spirits were growing and warming at the
time. "Nice..." said Felistia. "It almost feels like night time right
now ha ha" she added. Her white mage cloak still covered her
features, but a lock of her yellow hair fell out and she cutely
tucked it back under the cloak. Covering was a white cloak with red
triangles patterning the cloak, symbolic of the white mage class. And
suitably matched were some white shoes on her small feet. A smile
made its way onto her face and she relaxed.

Quite in stark contrast was Incentus, his dark cloak creating a
shroud over his face, making it near impossible to see any signs of a
face. And he enjoyed it that way. The cloak extended down to his
feet, and a ruffled cloak made its way upto his hands, a somewhat
rugged look on him. His dark-red eyes paled in the view of Felistia's
soft blue eyes that he had learned to like. *just a little* he
thought.

Amasa gave a rare carnal grin...everyone was focusing on the
summoners match...everyone. This would be the perfect opportunity to
get him at last...he wouldn't know what hit him...it was so
perfect...

(Amasa, what are you thinking?)
'You know what I am thinking. This is just PERFECT!'
(I know what you are planning but this is a stupid move, especially
now.)
'Oh shut up. Why don't you want him dead? Golbez never changed.
People just want to think that. He's the most dangerous man on the
planet.'
(Next to you...I think we should wait...I want to show you something
but it will take time....)
'Sorry but the early bird gets the worm.'
Amasa, under a spell of invisibility started running towards Golbez.

****

Mana was very worried. Summoner magic was very powerful and
dangerous and everyone was in such close range. She wondered if any
one who was not directly involved would get hurt.

'You better stop him! He's going to kill Golbez! He's lost it!'

Mana looked around. 'Huh?' She noticed Amasa was gone and no where
to be seen. "Where...?"

'Do you see that strange dim light?'

Mana blinked and noticed a small distorted reflected light.

'Run to it and tackle him quickly before he notices what I am up to.
The invisibility spell will also affect you so no one will be able
to see you. It's dangerous but...'

Mana ran instantly towards the light and jumped forward...

'Sheesh...that is something you both have in common...so brash...'

***

Amasa raised his sword..."Just like when you killed mom, you're
going to die the same way she did...." he whispered. He heard the
sound of someone running towards him and realized his location was
given away. "You betrayed me..." he managed to say as Mana tackled
him to the ground. She tried to pull the bigger person away but
decided to distract him away from Golbez just long enough for him to
listen to reason. She held him in a secure hold under his arms and
behind his neck making him try to throw her off.

"What are you doing?" Amasa asked as he put up a sound barrier
around them. "He's going to lead everyone to death! He has to die!
You've got to believe me! I am not lying!"

"Stop, you've got to stop...Golbez is a good man...he's not like
that anymore! YOU have to BELIEVE ME!" She pleaded.

The two struggled for a few more moments and Mana had the suspicion
that Amasa wasn't using his full strength for fear of hurting her.
Finally, when the man decided not to struggle anymore he
muttered, "I just don't want anymore people to die because of him. I
don't want you to die like mom..." Amasa's magic started to fade and
they became visable again, a few metres behind where Golbez was
standing watching the summoners' duel.

"But I am sure your mom wouldn't want you to become a killer.
Besides...if you killed Golbez...I'd rather die...life without
him...it seems wrong..." Mana's voice sounded like it hurt to think
of that possibility.

Amasa noticed the back of his shirt getting wet. 'Is she crying?'

"I love Golbez so much...to think that any harm would come to
him...I just want him to live happily...is too much to ask?"

Amasa felt a strange pain in his chest...was that what Mana was
feeling right now? "Very well, let's strike a deal...you will no
longer see Golbez, even as a friend and I promise you he will live.
Do you agree?"

Mana's eyes widened. Never see Golbez again? But at least he would
be alive... "Yes," she said slowly. "I agree, as long as Golbez's
safety is guarranteed..."

"Then it's a done deal." Amasa felt her let go of him so he took a
few steps away from her and looked at her. She just fell to her
knees and started sobbing.

Tilanya's eyes widened slightly as the regal summon appeared before
her, having never seen this being before. However, this unforseen
foe was not going to disuade the elder summoner, nor those she
summoned. She raised her arm to point at Asura, issuing a command to
the dragon in a strange tongue. The dragon reacted instantly,
rearing it's head back to gather air. With a mighty roar, it
released it's icy cold breath, a cone of cold that raced across the
field, coating the grass below in a thin sheet of ice, it's target
being Asura, and the summoner who stood behind her.

((And the battle begins. ^.^))

Chrissa, although worried about the Summoner duel, looked back and
noticed Incentus and Felistia by the gate, smiling slightly. Ah, the
young of heart. Sometimes she wished she were as carefree these days.
Eric seemed to be watching the battle intently, suddenly shaking
his head. "I still don't get the meaning of this. Why is it
necessary to declare power over another?" he sighed.
"It's natural. Animals do it just as much as humans. Survival of
the fittest." Chrissa pointed out.
"... I thought free will of thought separated us from animals."
Eric grimaced. Chrissa frowned slightly, looking back at the dueling
summoners.

"Rosa, don't get too close, you don't need to get hurt in a battle
we're not even involved in." Edward put a hand on her shoulder,
pulling her back from the mist slightly. He had known how dangerous
summoners could be, since the path to Mist Village hadn't been
closed off until its destruction. There used to be many summoners
around. But whatever the case, he had total faith in Rydia. Although
she was the only summoner he had really gotten to know, he knew she
was a strong one.

"HEY---!! Of all the nerve!" Carasha growled. She had been with
Amasa and Mana, when they both ran off and disappeared. Jeez, what
did they think they were, ninjas? It took a bit of searching around
until she spotted them closer to the battle, towards where Golbez
was. "There you two are! What's the big idea?! Inviting me along
just to dump me?" she crossed her arms, looking at the situation for
the first time, and noticing that Mana was crying. "... Okay, what
the hell did you say to her?!" she suddenly took an accusing step
towards Amasa. "She wasn't like that a moment ago, what happened?!"

Kerse jumped down from the city wall he was watching the battle from
afar. He stumbbled around to catch his balance and looked up too the
sky and scratched his head. He dropped the jug next to his feet,
shattering it and the little liqour that was left. Soon after he
regained his composer and grabbed his sword and laid the blunt side
on his shoulder and walked out to the main streets of Baron. "No
action what so ever *sigh*..whats wrong with these people..takin
their time.." Kerse grunted to himself. He walked out to the front
of Baron City's entrance and kept walking in the direction where the
battle was takin place. 'Might as well join them...nothing else to
do around here anyways, besides maybe sleep, and I'm not even close
to being tired.'Noone noticed Kerse at first. He had went around the
battlefield area where everyone wasn't. He took his Sword and stuck
in into the ground and crossed his arms as he observed the summoners
battle, fore he had never seen a summoner nor their summoned.

Amasa looked mildly annoyed but didn't back down. "I didn't do
anything to her," he said flatly. 'It was she who stopped me from

Mana nodded. "R-really, h-he...didn't do anything...Can we distance
ourselves further from this duel? I don't want any of us to get
hurt..."

Amasa donned an overly large cloak that covered his face and walked
towards Eric.

"Excuse me, but as fascinating as this duel is, Baron will need a
Paladin soon...and I mean soon. If you don't want to miss any of the
action while journeying..." Amasa handed Eric a large bubble that
showed what was going on during the duel. "Don't worry about
bursting this bubble. It will burst when the winner is declared.
Please hurry through the Serpent Trench and onwards to your journey."

"Hmph.." Carasha turned away as Amasa walked away. Even though Mana
said Amasa didn't do anything to her, she still didn't like the
situation. "You're right, Mana. It'll be best for us to stay out of
the way of the battle. Her majesty is gonna win anyway." she said,
helping Mana up from the ground as and leading her back towards the
town.

<It's the cloaked man again!> Chrissa thought, remembering the man
who had given her the firewood earlier. "Who are--?!"
"He's right, Chrissa, we don't have time to waste." Eric nodded,
taking his sister by the wrist, and quickly pulling her back towards
the entrance. "Incentus, I'm afriad we need to leave in a hurry.
Felistia, could you deliver our apologizes to his and her highness
of Eblan?"
"Just a second, Eric! Aren't you one bit suspicous of that man who
gave you that?!" she said, pointing at the bubble. "That's not the
only thing he's given us, he also gave me this bag of coal!" she
held it up to make her point.

these things for us, and won't let us know who he is... It's
scary... but.. it's almost because of these reasons that I trust
him. I mean, its like a messenger of higher powers, trying to help
us, you know what I mean?" he turned to his sister.
Chrissa was silent for a moment, then sighed. "I see."
"Now, lets get to Mysidia. Hurry up, Incentus!" he said, as they
made their way back into the town. Entering the far building, Eric
pressed the switch, letting the stone door slide away to reveal the
Serpent Trench. It didn't look as he expected it to, but it still
made him nervous. He had never used the Serpent Trench before. But
he had to now. "Lets go!" he said, stepping up onto the ground
portal. the room filled with an odd color, as Eric suddenly
disappeared.

The mist dragon screeched as Asura's blades pierced it's damp flesh,
it's cold blood splattering upon the ground in a small puddle.
However, Tilanya wasn't too concerned with the dragon's wounds, her
main concern was with the healing magic that Asura wielded. This was
a rather unforseen and difficult dillema. With a wave of her hand,
the dragon faded back into the world where it once came.

"I can see that my dragon of mist is no match for this creature,
therefore I need not continue this round, for you have already won.
Shall this be your summons for the next round?"

Amasa turned back to watch the duel - more specifically watch
Golbez. Why did Mana love this man? This murderer? This...
Amasa held his head in pain. It hurt to just remember...

***
"Hey Amasa, big brother, is mommy going to be okay?"
"Yeah, don't worry. Mom is strong, she won't go down so easy to some
silly poison. This drink should help her feel better. You better
hurry back to class or you'll get in trouble."
"Okay. Tell mommy to get better okay?"
"Yup!" the boy carried a giant glass from the kitchen and headed for
the medical ward in Baron Castle. He carefully opened the door.
"Hey Mommy! I got this...." the glass fell out of his hands,
shattering and spilling its contents all over the floor.
"Mom...?" The boy looked at the horrific sight before him with wide
eyes. In front of him was his mother standing impaled in her gut by
a dark sword. The owner of that sword was still standing there
holding the sword not taking notice of Amasa.
The boy threw a Flare spell at the man only to have it
deflected. "You bastard! Golbez!"
The dark man turned and looked at the boy as if he just realized he
was there. He started to reach out with his free hand...
Amasa would not give Golbez the chance to murder him. He pulled out
his short sword and drove it into Golbez's arm causing the man to
cry out in pain.
'Why doesn't my magic work against him?' Amasa thought as he tried
to get closer to his mother to see if she was still alive. He got
close enough to sense she had no living aura and his heart sank.
"Murderer! Murder! Murder!" the boy cried. Golbez again tried to
grab the boy but Amasa jumped out the nearest window. "I'll kill
you! I'll Kill YOU I SWEAR!!!" Amasa cast Wall as he saw Golbez with
a spell in hand ready to cast it on him. The boy ran as fast as he
could to get away and to plan revenge...

***
Amasa fell onto his hands and knees. He was having trouble
breathing..."Murderer...murderer..." he kept on repeating those
words. He looked up and focused on Golbez again. "I'll avenge
her...I'll get you Golbez by any means necessary. You'll learn what
true pain is!"

***

Mana was now again watching the duel at a safe distance. Actually
she was watching Golbez and looking at Amasa every now and then to
make sure the other man would not pull a similar stunt. She was
worried for both men. The dragoon girl could understand why Amasa
was angry but Golbez is no longer the man that Amasa thinks him to
be. If only she could convince him of that...

~Tilanya~

Tilanya smiled, though no more words escaped her lips. Raising her
hands forward, she launched a reflection spell upon the summoned
queen, also known to some simply as "wall". Curative enemies are
quite the pain, she had learned this long ago. She then began
casting the same spell, this one upon herself, in preperation for
her next move.

Rydia was surprised that Tilanya knew Wall. The green-haired woman
herself had abandoned study of White Magic in favor of Black.

Either way, Wall was Asura's only weakness. Asura's power lay in the
fact that she could heal herself and fight at the same time. Without
that healing power, Asura was still a fierce opponent...but she was
beatable.

Rydia didn't want to risk it, so she gestured, sending Asura back to
the Land of Monsters.

"I...I yield this round," she said, "It is your turn to summon."

"I see your youth does not cloud your wisdom, very good. Speaking of
wise..." She said, moments after the wall had been cast upon herself
mind you, she again called to the summons for their aide. Almost
instantly, the skies above the crowd darkened, and electricity could
be seen leaping from cloud to cloud. Then, from a shadow infront of
Tilanya her summon's came, in the form of an old man who's beard
reached down to the ground with ease. Garbed in an off white tunic,
his white eyes crackled with power. A cane was held in the monster's
hand, a way to control the mighty power he possessed. Ramuh, as most
called him, raised his staff to the active sky, controlling the
energy into a single bolt that raced from the sky and struck the
ground no more than ten feet from Rydia. However, as Rydia and
several other people knew, Ramuh's anger bolt would expand into a
very large area to cover, and it quickly went to encompass the royal
summoner.

The distant rumble of a coming storm....

Mana was staring at Amasa as if trying to figure something out.
Garret was looking down at the both of them...

Mana's vision became hazy and she took a few steps back while
shaking her head.

[...Rumble...]

Everyone was gone. Mana looked around and saw Kain and Garret
standing beside her - more exactly holding her back. It was like
watching a show from her own view. What was going on? Was she living
in a dream? She had to wake up soon or she might get fried in the
summoners' duel if she wasn't careful.

"Stop! Let's work together! Don't let it end this way!" she could
her her voice shout to the distance.

****

Garret saw Mana and notice she was just standing there...perfectly
still..then she fell onto the ground on her back like a doll. The
dragoon boy jumped from the castle towards her.

****

Who was she shouting at? Her hazy vision started to clear and she
could see a dark haired man and a red head riding chocobos in the
distance.

'Ryuu? Was that Ryuu? Then who was that dark haired man?'

"Even if you try to make me forget, I never will! I'll never forget!
I'll remember forever!!"

****

"I..won't...forget..." Mana muttered. Garret kneeled at her side.

"Mana...time to wake up...you can't sleep forever...not yet...not
until I am done with you..." Garret said.

Rosa watched as Rydia set Asura away.

'Who is she going to summon next?'

She watched as Tilanya summoned first this round. The great Ramuh,
the controller of lightening, appeared in the darkness. Rosa
shivered as she felt something go to cover Rydia.

'I wonder who she is going to summon now...'

"Be careful Rydia..."

She whispered this last phrase as she thought of all the times they
had fought in battle before. Rydia was always very confident.

'I know she can handle herself...but still...sometimes we are all
still like lost girls deep inside our hearts...'

Rosa stopped the memories which were sure to bring up Cecil. He was
out of her life forever now. There was only this moment, this
battle, that she needed to focus on.

Rydia reacted instantly, calling forth another
creature once Ramuh showed his wizened face. From the
very earth itself, the tall, broad figure emerged. As
Ramuh's lightning approached, the new creature, Titan,
raised a wall of stone from the ground between himself
and Ramuh.

The lightning struck the stone and sent shards of it
flying, but Lightning's primary weakness was against
Earth. Titan shifted and stared at Ramuh and Tilanya.

Then, he plunged his fist into the ground, sending a
shockwave, accompanied by a split in the earth,
rushing toward Tilanya and her summoned creature.

~Tilanya~

For the first time since the battle began a frown began to emerge on
Tilanya's lips as she witnessed the massive Titan arrive. The child
was wiser than she had thought, using standard weaknesses. That, and
she quickly let a spell of float fly from her lips, and rose a few
feet from the ground, avoiding taking damage as the split in the
earth approached. However, Ramauh wasn't as lucky as he almost fell
into the crack in the soil. However, the powerful lightning
elemental managed to stay his ground, taking a defensive stance
against this earth bound threat.

"You have done your homework little girl, I applaud that. However,
no text can teach you what I'm about to show you." She almost
hissed, as she began to focus her magical energy once again.
However, she did not use it for summoning, for Ramauh was still there
building up his next electrical attack. Suddenly, a light shone from
above so brightly that had the clouds not been there it's rays may
have blinded those watching. From the edges of the horizon, north
south, east, and western, spheres of energy swarmed together above
the battle. A drop of sweat appeared upon the elderly summoner's
face, as she controlled the ancient spell. The orbs of light above
then arced downward, racing down to the Titan at speeds that Ramauh's
lightning could not. This was her spell of "Holy", the most powerful
magic within the circle of white, and the spell held true to it's aim
as Ramauh finished charging up for his next attack.

((Titan, Rydia, Anyone else?))

Rydia had no defense against the powerful white magic.
None, save for Titan. The brutish monster threw
itself between Rydia and the oncoming attacks. Holy
struck the earth creature soundly, though Ramuh's
lightning had precious little effect on the element of
earth. Bruised and battered, Titan could barely stand
any longer, though he had saved Rydia from the force
of Tilanya's vicious attack.

She took a deep breath as she dismissed Titan. This
had gone on long enough, and the Monsters had suffered
quite enough for this silly game. It was time she
ended it.

Rydia considered her options quickly. She had two
that would virtually guarantee a victory and an end to
this meaningless combat. The first, she was not
willing to use, unless she had absolutely no choice.
Meteo was the most powerful magic in the world, far
stronger than even Holy. But it was also extremely
destructive. A single Meteo spell could very well
devastate a small town.

Her other option. She had to use it. A creature so
powerful that even Queen Asura and King Leviathan
revered it as a god. Tilanya seemed surprised when
Rydia summoned Asura before. The girl was certain
Tilanya had never been to the Moon to see this one, if
she had not seen Asura.

"From the heavens, I call thee forth," she intoned,
"Great, noble lord, descend upon us now, and give me
your power."

A rumbling announced the arrival of a new monster, and
waves of power crackled through the air. Darkness
coalesced in the air before Rydia. Great wings
emerged from the darkness, followed by a long, sinuous
tail and a powerful, reptilian snout. The darkness
writhed and twisted, transforming into a powerful and
magnificent dragon.

The dragon gently reached out a claw, picked Rydia up,
and set the girl comfortably upon its back.

Here stood Bahamut, God of Monsters, its baleful gaze
leveled upon Tilanya and Ramuh.

"Surrender this combat now," Bahamut ordered in a
clear, powerful voice, "Lest you feel my wrath."

Giving parting gestures, Felistia and Incentus departed. While
Felistia waved she replied to Eric, saying "Most assuredly", adding a
soft smile and toyfully playing with one of the locks of her blonde
hair. "See you later Incentus!" she said, with a slight sense of hope
and happiness in her voice, and a twinkle in her eye. Incentus
snickered and waved a shy wave back to her. Tilting his head down as
he turned round to go onto the Serpent Trench, after Eric.

Within moments the crew had left, leaving Felistia to herself, a
somewhat sad thought coming over her mind. *well, that leaves me here
by myself, I may as well go off to his and her majesty* and while she
thought the last few words a glimmer of hope entered her mind.
*they'll be alright* she thought. Making her way out the town gates,
she noticed the battle and proceeded to seet herself safely on the
grass pastures around her.

Though the heated battle had gone on long, the consequent attacks
doing fair damage to the surrounding terrain, her peace and
confidence surrounded her in a cool aura. The wind continued blowing,
ruffling her White Mage uniform and sending a warm breeze around her
body. And so she stayed such a way until the battle had finished.

*Show them your splendour and beauty, O great King Bahamut of the
Dragons of Mirath'nor* she chanted to herself in thought. And most
reassuringly, she witnessed the incarnate energies of such a beast,
as it's aura let of a warm and pleasant feeling towards Felistia. Her
eyes flickered a golden colour and she fixated her eyes on the
ensuing battle

~Tilanya~

Tilanya was frozen in place with both fear and awe as the dragon king
spoke, the power radiating from him was so strong that it Tilanya was
almost smothered by the mystical force. Waving her arm, Ramauh was
returned, much to the elder summon's relief. Following the rules
that had been set by the forefathers of mist, she held her staff out,
horizontally, and gently laid it upon the ground before the great
beast without a word. Leaving her weapon there, she lowered her head
and walked backwards for five paces.

"I bow to your strength, victory is yours young Rydia."

ooc: good battle scenes you two!

bic: When Rosa saw who Rydia had summoned next she was sure the
battle had to be over soon.

'The only thing that could combat that would be meteo...and that
would be too dangerous to use here with all of us so close by.'

Still, Rosa held her breath until Tilanya made her next move.

<"I bow to your strength, victory is yours young Rydia.">

Rosa expelled her breath.

"Thank God," she whispered as she sent a silent prayer to heaven.

Her first instinct was to run up and give her friend some congrats,
but knew that now would not be the proper time. The two summoners
probably wanted to speak about their battle, and it was not her
place to be a part of it.

'Now what do we do?'

She leaned against a rock as she rubbed her forehead.

Cardigan Grey stood leaning against the wall at the very top of the
arena. Many people were beginning to clear out since the battle of
summoners had ended with Rydia as the victor. The cloaked black
mage had actually enjoyed the battle and felt honored somewhat to
see some of the rarest summons all appear in the same place. He had
once himself thought of becoming a summoner until he became
entranced with the arts of black magic, and even some of the darker
aspects of his chosen field.

Watching this battle had given Cardigan new aspirations. He reached
into his cloak and pulled out a book that he always kept with him.
This book was a rare book of spells known as shadow magic. For many
years the art of shadow magic had been lost to black mages, for none
of them could find a way to tap into its source. Cardigan was
determined to do so.

"I shall become a summoner in my own way," Cardigan said without
realizing his thoughts had become audible. A couple of people
nearby gave him a sideways look, but Cardigan was too deep in
thought to notice or care. He opened the pages of that book and
flipped until he came across what he was looking for. "Yes... very
similar indeed," he said as he read one of the familiar passages in
his dark book.

Cardigan then quickly cast a float spell on himself and hovered down
from the top of the stadium to land on the ground. A few people
stopped to look, but a float spell was quite boring after a summoner
battle so not many people thought anything about it. Cardigan burst
through the door of the inn and tossed the innkeeper a bag of coins.

"Thank you, I'll be here a few days," Cardigan said as he strode,
almost glided, up the stairs. He pulled open the door of the first
room he saw with such force that after he had entered the door
sprang back closed behind him, just as he wanted. He dropped his
open book, the book of shadow, onto a desk and pulled up a chair.

Almost immediately, the book began to glow a strange lavender color,
and the glow in Cardigan's eyes matched it. He took off his large
hat and tossed it aside. Pulling his stringy black hair out of his
eyes, he began to read. His reading was not normal. He flipped
through the pages of his thick manuscript so quickly that most
people would not even have time to read a single word on each page.

However, Cardigan was as one with this book, not simply reading
words, but taking in energy as he read. He used his new thoughts
after the summoner battle and saw many of the ideas in the book with
a new light, or perhaps a new darkness. The corners of his mouth
drew up as he closed the back cover of the book, reading the entire
work in less than ten minutes. "Soon..." was all he uttered before
turning the book over and starting again at the first page.

Hours later, Cardigan woke up from a sleep he had not realized he had
taken. He only remembered flipping through the pages of the Book of
Shadow again and again, becoming lost in its hypnotizing power. He
glanced at the clock on his wall, rubbing his temples to try and
sooth the terrible headache he had. "It has been a full day since I
entered this room! I must have passed out from exhaustion that I
never felt."

His eyes burned from the many hours of reading the book, and his
muscles were tight and cramped from sitting in the chair for so long
and then sleeping in an awkward position. He stood and approached
the door of his room. However, he heard a voice calling from over
his shoulder. 'Cardigan' the voice whispered to him, seeming audible.

The mage looked around him but saw no one. He pulled open the
curtains of his window, the bright sunlight burning his eyes.
Squinting, he looked and saw that no one was close enough to the
window to have called his name in a whisper. His eyes held a look of
confusion as he closed the curtains and approached the door to the
hallway. He cracked the door and peeked out, and when he was sure no
one was standing at the door, he flung it completely open.

"Did you call me?" Cardigan asked the maid, an older woman who was
pushing a cart of dirty towels down the hall.

The woman held a look of confusion. "No sir, I do not believe I know
you. Do you need something?"

Cardigan looked around, hoping to find someone else. Shrugging, he
answered the woman, "No thanks, just need more sleep I guess..."

Slamming the door closed, Cardigan went to his bed, deciding that he
would need sleep in order to function properly. Despite having just
awakened, he felt more exhausted than he could ever remember in his
life. At the moment he closed his eyes, he heard the voice
again. 'Cardigan... come to me...' the voice whispered.

Cardigan slowly opened his eyes, expecting to see someone, but he
only saw the Book of Shadow, which he was sure he had closed, sitting
open on the desk. The book was glowing in the same way it had the
previous evening. Despite his fatigue, he felt compelled, almost
forced, to get out of his bed and return to the desk, once again
flipping madly through the pages.

The cheering crowd was focused upon the victor as Tilanya rose from
her kneeling position. Though her face betrayed none of her
emotions, inside the elder summoner was perplexed, shocked, and
almost elated at the same time. For many years she had believed that
no summoner possesed equal skill, and now this powerful child has
come. This would provide very exciting times for her.

However, unsure of how the baronion crowd would react to her
speaking, she merely brought forth her magic once more, the black
spell known as "Warp", which took her from the battlefield and placed
her just outside the Baron castle gates, where few if any were
gathered. Adjusting herself after the battle, she waiting for the
queen to return once more. She still wished to have a word with her,
the battle's outcome deciding what she spoke to the queen about.

Amasa watched with child like awe as Bahamut was summoned. He had
only caught glimpses of the King of all summoned monsters during the
most desperate of battles. To finally be able to get a good look at
the legend itself was exciting to say the least. The boy ignored the
cold rain that started to fall on the Kingdom of Baron...

"Congrats to the Queen of Eblan..." he said as he started to walk
closer to her and Bahamut.

Garret picked up Mana in his arms. He thought of going to offer his
praise to Rydia but thought to do it later since everyone seemed to
be doing so now. He looked down at the pale face of his fiancee. She
didn't have much time left. He looked around and noticed that a mist
was starting to creep up upon the kingdom. The dragoon sighed. He
hated weather like this. It brought back bad memories. Garret headed
back towards the castle and noticed the other summoner. He gave her
a brief glance before continuing on to Mana's room in the castle and
placing her in bed.

***later that day***

Mana felt as if she was made of heavy stone. She slowly opened her
eyes and found the full moon shining into her room.

"Where...?"

"We're in your room in Baron Castle. You fainted during Queen
Rydia's duel."

Mana's head turned to the directionn of where the voice was coming
from. The moonlight only showed the lower half of his body. His face
was still in shadow. Even so, she could see the blue of his eyes as
if it were day. That familiar blue glow...trait of being only half
human...

"Garret..."

"Did you have a long dream?" he asked.

"Um...yeah..."

"Are you feeling better now?"

"Yes," she lied. She felt so heavy...so cold inside...

"Good," he said pretending to accept her answer. "Don't do anything
foolish that might put yourself on even more dangerous ground."

Mana shuddered. "O-of course not. Why would I do that?"

"Because you are you." Garret stood up and then exited her room.

As soon as Mana was sure that Garret was gone, she took a lit candle
and looked at the clock on her wall. "It's midnight..." She put the
candle down and started to quickly pack up taking only what she
needed for her trip. She had to check on something before she came
back to Baron...she had to make sure...

When she was ready she prepared to jump off her balcony to the floor
below and repeat the process until she was at ground level. A
thought then occurred to her. She grabbed her good luck stuffed
dragon and proceeded to jump to Golbez's balcony. She entered his
room cautiously from the balcony. The girl wasn't sure if he was in
or not but she decided to leave her favourite possession with
Golbez. She found the sorceror asleep in his bed. Mana blinked
rather quickly at the sight. The room was dimly lit by moonlight and
it appeared that Golbez was peacefully sleeping. The girl kneeled
beside him just watching him sleep for a few moments. Golbez look so
unguarded and innocent in his sleep. It was hard to think of him as
terrifying seeing him now. She muffled a giggle that was threatening
to break the silence and possibly wake him up. She placed her
stuffed dragon toy beside him.

"I knew you would come here," a harsh whisper said.

Mana froze. Was Golbez awake? No he was still sleeping. Before Mana
could turn around, she felt someone grab her and place something
near her nose and mouth. She gaze became clouded as well as her
mind. The last thought on her mind was: "Golbez, be safe..."

Amasa felt the dragoon girl go limp in his arms. He held onto her
securely as he jumped off the balcony and made his escape from Baron
with her.

Garret was on guard duty and saw Amasa running away with Mana from
his view on the battlements. He sighed but made no effort to alert
anyone. "Let's see how this goes..." he said to himself.

"Commander Garret, do you see anything suspicous on your end?"
yelled a fellow knight from another post.

"Nope, nothing to report here. Just the same old boring view!" he
shouted back.

OOC: Sorry I was gone so long, and thank you for your support, it
means a lot ^_^.

IC: "So the battle's over... Good job, your majesty." Eric said,
watching the bubble, even though they obviously couldn't hear him.
He put the bubble away, walking out of the Serpent Road's building.
Eric blinked as he looked over the town of Mysidia. It was always a
busy place, and it amazed the brown haired man each time he visited.
Not that he visited often, rather few and inbetween actually. It was
always a little uncomfortable for those who were from Baron, as it
may take decades for the mages to forgive the country. Eric gave a
sigh. He knew they had the right to be mad at them, even with a
false king giving orders to attack the peaceful town.
"Gods, that thing wears a person out!" Chrissa stretched, looking
about for the inn. "We probably should go check in for a room. We
might need the rest before going to the mountain."
Eric didn't reply, seeming to be lost in thought.
"... What? I don't think anyone's going to poison us, although I
won't be the first to test the food..." Chrissa tried to give a
humored smirk.
"Huh?" Eric finally turned back. "Oh, sorry. Yeah, you two go ahead
and get some rest. I'm going to stop by the tower for a moment." he
said, waving as he walked off.
Chrissa shook her head at her brother. What was in that guy's head,
other than rocks? "Well, c'mon Incentus, let's get some rooms." she
smiled at the young black mage. "Oh, aren't you from around here?
Maybe you have a place to stay?"

----------------

Eric hesistantly stepped into the large building at the end of
town, where the crystal of water used to be kept, and where the
elder usually stayed.
No one was in the first room, thus Eric continued up the stairs to
the crystal room. The man smiled, looking about the reflective glass
and marble of the room. He always liked this room. Sure, it was
shiny, but there was something else.... Something he couldn't quite
put his finger on. But he didn't need to dwaddle, as he proceeded on
up into the tower.
There the elder, along with other mages, sat and prayed, suiting
the aply named Tower of Prayer. Eric didn't wish to disturb them,
but he rather took formation with them as he kneeled down and prayed
as well.
It didn't take long for the elder to notice the man who joined
them. With a smile of recognition, the elder got up and approached
him. "Ah, Eric, how long has it been since I've seen you?"
Eric's face reddened slightly as he looked up at the elder. "About
three years, I think... I meant to come earlier, but when the
hostilities broke out between Baron and Mysidia..."
The Elder gave a understanding nod, then gently pulled Eric back to
his feet, guiding him towards the door by the shoulder. "Yes... But
luckily that was the past. Maybe once the people see more good lads
like you from Baron, they might realize the human nature is just as
strong in Baron. Cecil had been a respectable role model as well, up
until--" the elder cut off, shaking his head.
"The kingdom is under rule of Queen Rosa now. She's a very kind
ruler, so I think Baron will grow in the right direction." Eric
said, walking along side the elder.
"Well, knowing you, this talk of politics must be boring you. What
finally brings you back to this town?" the elder asked.
".... I'm ready to try." Eric suddenly stopped. The elder turned an
odd expression to him.
".. Ready to try what?" the older man asked.
Eric drew out Excaliber, the sword that once belonged to Cecil. "I
wish to become a paladin. With your blessing, I'll be off to Mt.
Ordeals to take up the responsiblity."
This surprised the elder, but his face softened. "Eric... Its not
that I don't think you would make a fine paladin, but I'm starting
to think its a harder task then can be expected. Cecil was a great
paladin, but he went off track just a little.... Suddenly the
darkness returned to him, and now he's gone."
Eric bowed his head. Kluya was also a paladin once. But he looked
back at the elder with determination. "I understand this won't be
easy, even if I do become a paladin, but I feeled compelled to do
this. Those I know and love are under some strange threat, and I
wish to be able to protect them."
The elder sighed, but then smiled, and put his hands together in
prayer. "I do bless your journey for truth... but will you be going
alone?"
"No," Eric smiled. "My sister, a warrior trained in white magic,
and a black mage will be accompanying me.
"May your path be safe, your heart be true, and your feet be
swift." the elder bowed. Eric returned the bow, bid farewell, then
left the tower.

OOC: Blah, I posted this once, but yahoo is being a pain.

IC: Carasha sat by the window in one of Baron Castle's guest rooms.
Things weren't adding up anymore, and she hadn't been able to figure
out as much about her 'companions' as she thought. Mostly because of
the distractions of enemies, parties, and a certain guitarist.
She cursed herself for bringing him up again. The only reason she
had meant to start talking with that man was to find out more about
Ryuu. Outside, the redhead was a ditz, but she knew there was more
to him then that... He was some sort of threat.
But the performing duo had left, so there wasn't anything she could
do to follow any suspicions. Right now, she'll focus on this 'Kluya'
guy. What does he need to kill Mana for? Mana seemed like an
ordinary girl, with a huge share of male trouble.
Carasha thought this over, while watching as Mana slipped out her
window, jumped to the ground, then to another window. The ninja
smirked. She was always fascinated by the way dragoons were able to
jump like that. That was a skill that needed to be taught to ninjas.
They'd be even more unbeatable that way!
With quick recall, she remembered that was Golbez's room Mana had
slipped into. A chuckle escaped Carasha. It was a shame the dragoon
was engaged to that insenstive Garret guy. There was, at least,
definite friendship between Mana and Golbez. Even if there wasn't
much between them, Mana cared more about Golbez moreso then others,
say Garret and Ken.
Crap, she brought up that name again. Quickly shoving that name out
of her head, Carasha turned away from the window, deciding to visit
the two.
By the time she had snuck by the guards and peeked through the
door, however, Mana wasn't there. Golbez was still asleep, and
everything was quiet in the night. Carasha muttered to herself. She
had felt like disturbing someone, and had missed the chance.
Whatever Mana came for, she sure didn't stay long.
That's when she noticed the stuffed dragon toy. The mighty,
fearsome Golbez? With a toy? It took all the constraint Carasha had
not to laugh. Mana must have left it there. Either that, or she
couldn't believe this was the same Golbez that almost took over the
world.
Finally shutting the door, Carasha turned off to sneak past some
more guards.

she was watching Tilanya's reaction to the way the match ended. She
was surprised that Tilanya didn't say anything. Before Rosa could
approach her she warped away.

'Strange...'

Rosa shrugged it off and joined her friends. It wouldn't be long
before they arrived at Baron.

When they arrived at Baron Rosa noticed Tilanya standing outside
near the gates. Rosa walked towards her and smiled.

"It was a great battle."

Rosa wasn't sure she should say anything else, but she couldn't help
but ask-- "Why are you standing out here anyways?"

After the fight most of the crowd left. Runic followed as the
remaining met at the gates in front of Baron. He noticed the Queen
was among them. She was speaking with a smaller girl with green
hair.

'I remember her,' he thought to himself, 'That's Rydia. My
memories... so foggy...' He struggled to remember the names and
faces of each. He recognized the name Tilanya, but just could not
recognize her face. 'Have I even met this person before...?' He
though as he shook his head.

"It was a great battle" Rosa said to Tilanya. Runic looked over when
he heard her voice. It was a voice not easily forgotten. A small
comfort had come over him when he heard her speak.

He approached her slowely, giving a small bow when she looked up. He
gave her a small kiss on the hand and said, "Evening m'lady. Do you
remember me?"

<"Evening m'lady. Do you remember me?">

Rosa turned towards Tilanya with an apologetic look.

"One moment Tilanya."

She turned back to the stranger.

"Of course I remember you, Runic. Where have you been? I feel as if
you've been gone for a while. I can't talk now, but if you meet me
inside the castle, you can tell me everything that happened."

Rosa wanted to talk with the powerful summoner first and then talk
with this strange young man who had caused new feelings to awaken

him Gustave?)

OOC: I changed his picture as well to reflect the change in his age
and to represent the a step in his life. I changed it a bit again.
You can view Runic's Bio at
http://www.oocities.org/thelifestreamrpg/runic2.html
You can continue calling him Runic. That was a detail I forgot to
change before.

BIC: Runic gave a small bow and entered the castle.

'There's something about her...' Runic thought to himself as he
walked the castle halls, 'Why is it I cannot remember anything very
clearly, but I can remember her perfectly?'

"Sir, is there anything I can help you with?" One of the castle
guards said, interupting Runic.

"Oh," Runic said, waking from his day dreams, "I am supposed to be
meeting the Queen here sometime soon. I am a bit hungry though."

"Follow me I will show you to the Dinner Room."

Runic follow the guard to a very large Dinning Room. He thanked the
guard as he left him, giving a small bow. Runic looked at the huge
feast laying on the table. It was like the table was never out of
food. He helped himself to a decent sized plate and sat down at the
far end of the table to eat.

When Garret was relieved of guard duty, he, as usual, headed first
to the dinning hall. Garret was helping himself to some snacks when
he noticed Runic at the far end of the table. An eyebrow raised in
curiousity. It seemed anyone could waltz into the castle these days.
The dragoon boy shrugged it off but still had suspicious
reservations about Runic. He walked over, grabbed a roll of bread
and munched on it while just looking at Runic.

Finally, he decided to pose a question. "What's your business here
in Baron? Be careful how you answer or you might find yourself in
more danger then you bargined for."

"Commander Garret!" a soldier came up to him walking quite briskly.

"What is it?"

"Everything seems all right but the soldiers are having trouble
seeing past Baron city limits. There appears to be a deep fog
developing."

"Why don't you ask the mages to disperse the fog then?"

"We did, but for some reason their magic does not work against it."

Garret gave a groan. "It's just fog. It'll be gone soon enough. Head
back and tell the men to not worry so much."

"Yes sir!"

'More like it will be gone when the caster is finished with us,'
thought Garret. The boy held his head and decided to wash up before
hitting the sack. He have a warning glare to Runic before leaving.

Mana felt like her head was heavier than a lead weight. She couldn't
see very clearly and decided to keep laying down. She could make out
a fire and a shadowy figure. She rolled onto her back and held her
head.

"Why did youu bring me here?" she asked.

"You were going to come here any way. What were you thinking going
to see Golbez again?" the voice asked in a very annoyed tone.

"I couldn't help it..."

Mana heard the man scoff. "Aren't you worried about me?" he asked.

Mana sat up and shook her head to clear it. She looked directly into
Amasa's eyes. "No, because..."

Amasa turned his gaze away. It was a bit unnerving being analyzed by
the dragoon girl.

"Because...you're a reflection..."

"I was awaiting your arival your highness, I had requested that we

quite rudely interupted their conversation. Had Rosa not given
Tilanya a look of apology the elder woman would have said something
to the boy, but chose to remain silent, for politeness sake.

Once he had made his way into the castle, Tilanya continued with only
a brief glance to the departing figure. "As I was saying, I wish to
ask of you a rather strange request. It appears that through all my
efforts to strengthen my powers since the fall of mist were not
enough. So, I ask of you, is there a position open within the royal
defenses that I might join? I assure you, my skills in the arcane
arts are nothing to sneeze at, as you have already seen, and as sure
as that mist comes from the western horizon..." She said, eluding to
the strange fog that rolled across the valley. "Such abilities would
provide valuable to the strength and sovernty of Baron. And it would
give me a chance to further my training in a way that solitude can
not."

Rosa was indeed taken aback by the request. Whatever she thought the

: : Runic's Hunting : :
http://www.vgmusic.com/music/console/sony/ps1/pematrix.mid : :

Runic slept through the day. He had not had a decent slumber in a
long time. Nothing was to disturb him at this point. He woke up just
as the sun was going down over the mountains. After he got up and
gathered his gear, he left the Castle and headed North-West into the
forest to hunt for and perhaps catch a black chocobo, if he was
lucky.

Once he reached the forest he found a good place to set up camp. He
dug a fox-hole to sleep in and placed branches full of leaves on top
for cover from the weather. He set up a fire pit, but did not start
the fire. First he was to hunt.

Runic gathered his hunting gear and headed North. There was a goblin
fire to the North, or so he thought. Little did he know he was
walking into a colony of Imp's. On his way through, he set a few
traps. 'We'll see how cleaver they are with these traps,' he
laughed, thinking to himself. He climbed over a large, fallen tree
and was walking past a large boulder when six Imps charged him. He
quickly pulled his weapon and swung, gashing his blade into the two
in front of him. He quickly retorted and stabed one trying to sneak
up on him. The other three quickly jumped towards runic and swung
their swords. He quickly blocked the first attack, but the other got
his right leg and arm. Before they had a chance to swing again Runic
sliced through both of them in one strike.

He sat down on the stump to examine his wounds. His leg was only
skin deap, but the one on his arm was pretty bad. 'I don't think I'm
gonna make it unless I get back to Baron and find a healer...'

He gathered gear from the dead Imps and returned to his camp. He hid
most of his gear in the fox-hole and took only what was necessary,
then left for Baron. The loss of blood was making him dizzy, he kept
loosing his sense of direction. He wandered into a cave, tripping
over some loose rocks causing him to stumble to the ground. He
caught himself so he didnt get bashed up too badly. He lifted his
head and looked around. It was hard for him to make out the objects
around him.

"Wark!"

"A Chocobo!" he exclaimed, "I think I have some Gestahl Greens left.
He reached into his bag and tossed some greens a little bit in front
of him, then waited behind the rock wall for the chocobo to take the
bate. When the chocobo approached the food and began to eat it,
runic snuke up from behind it and grappled it around the neck. The
chocobo jerked for a few moments, but runic soon had the bird calm.

"Now...to Baron..." he said, leading the chocobo towards the city.
Just as the were reaching the Castle Gates Runic lost conciousness
and fell off his chocobo...

~Tilanya~

The way that the man had fell without grace from the bird instantly
alerted the old woman that the rider was not well. Quickly turning
towards the fallen fighter, sure that Rosa would do the same, Tilanya
hurried to the fallen man's side. Without a word the summoner
inspected his body for wounds, quickly coming across the gnarled arm
that hung limply at his side. Imps, she could tell right away,
having seen their handywork on many wildlife, and sometimes even
other imps. A small army of them near the chocobo forest had
recently began to use jagged edged blades instead of the traditional
straight curve, the jagged blade caused deeper cuts that bled more
than their previous choice of weapon.

Placing her hands above the wound, she quickly began to utter the
gentle words of Curaga, the powerful spell of healing second only to
the fourth spell of healing, some called it "Full Cure", while others
called it "Cure 4" for lack of a better term. Pumping her energy
seemed harder than normal however, as she silently cursed herself
once again as she realized that she was still weary from her previous
altercation.

((Rosa, Runic, anyone else?))

Rosa listed to Tilanya as she spoke. However, her attention was
distracted by the same noise that had startled the summoner.

"Runic..." (whispered)

Rosa felt her throat constrict as she realized he was hurt. She
followed Tilanya, who had moved immediately to Runic's side to
inspect the injury.

'What is wrong with me!?! I am not acting like the white mage I am.
I shouldn't have stood their dumbstruck as if I were a novice.'

Rosa silently berated herself as they examined the wound.
The source of the injury was Imps.

'What was he doing out there by himself?'

Rosa was about to use her white magic to cast a healing spell on the
young man, but Tilanya beat her to it. She watched as the summoner
struggled trying to cast Curaga.

'Why is she trying to cast such a powerful spell after such a recent
battle? Doesn't she know that I can help?'

At this point, Rosa admitted to herself she hadn't done much curing
since the death of King Cecil. For a long time she had felt that her
hands had lost all their healing qualities. Still, she knew the
power that was inside her, the gift she had been born with. So, not
wanting to push Tilanya to the side to take over, she decided to do
a simple transfer of her magical energy. She reached over and placed
her hands on top of the summoner's. She chanted some incoherant
words and as a whitish pink light began to glow around their hands.
She began to cast the same spell, Curaga, and let the spell flow
through Tilanya's hands.

'It feels so good to be healing again. It is as if I am healing a
part of myself as I heal him.'

Rosa refused to stop the transfer of energy until the wound began to
disappear.
