OSKOREI

Written September 1999

It was a cold dreary day as I left the woods
The clouds forcing Sol to close his eyes
I come into a green meadow, lush with ambience
Lost was I, until I caught sight of the ride

It was like a terrible storm, closing in
Fear latched my feet to the ground
All I could do was stare in utter awe
At the black cloud above me
And the ghastly sounds

Mouth agape, I stared into the darkness
Legions of the dead riding through the sky
The Great Hunt of legend
In front was the man with one eye

I saw the single eye shift my direction
Odin peered into my vision and grinned
He drew his sword and gave a mighty yell
And the ride flew on against the winter's wind

Terror held me firm as He flew over my head
I viewed the fervor above as they went
The ride was off to the city
To pillage and loot and drink to their content

I stared ahead as the cloud of dead faded away
And a wild grin spread across my face
Odin had looked me in the eyes
And I had seen the Oskorei
