ROMANTIC INSOMNIA
Written November 1999
Call my name and the leaves will flutter
They drop to the ground, dead and lifeless
Crushed under your foot
I am the ghost of winter
Wrap your jacket tighter
The wind has grown stronger
I am whispering in your ear
Hold out your arms, gaze into the sky
And absorb the ghost of winter
My clouds loom overhead like a wall of bleakness
The gloom and the grey
The smell of smoke hangs in the air
The biting cold at the tip of your nose
That's me touching you
The ghost of winter
Isn't it lovely?
The wind is stilled
The trees are bare
The ground is buried in brittle leaves
The color of the world is shrouded
Don't you want to dance with me?
Dance with the ghost of winter
The sun cannot reach us here
In the bliss of this world of dreams
The romantic vision of peace
Our lips touch under the arms of a shedding tree
The kiss of the ghost of winter
Then the rain begins to fall
Like drops of silver upon your face
Each touch makes you shiver
But I see you smile
The caress of the ghost of winter
The sun is not welcome in our dance
So the clouds will rest at night
The moon rises, bathing us in brilliant silver light
You are most beautiful as I take you into my arms
And we embrace forever
The love of the ghost of winter
