Elf-Lore
Come and learn about those our Freehold has taken as their gods. Here follows a list of lore of the Elves so commonly mentionioned along with the Æsir within the Eddic poems.
A Catalogue of Elves
Ivaldi:
The progenitor of the Elven race.
Idunna:The
youngest of Ivaldi's older children. A full Elf and half-sister
to the three "Son's of Ivaldi". Keeper of the golden apples of youth
for the gods.
Thjäzi-Völund the
Smith: One of Ivaldi's three sons
by his union with a Jötunn women Greip.
Örvandil-Egill:
an Archer, and Völund's brother. Thor's friend.
Idi-Slagfinn: A
hunter, Völund and Örvandil-Egill's brother. Slagfinn is identical
to Gjuki, the father of the Niflungs-- the main characters in the series
of heroic poems in the Elder Edda
Skadi:
Völund's daughter. She marries Njörd as part of the wergeld
given her for the slaying of her father at Asgard's walls.
Ull: Örvandil-Egill's
son. Ull is the son of Örvandil-Egil and Sif, Svipdag's half-brother.
Sif later marries Thor.
Svipdagr:
A "half-Elf". Svipdagr is the son of Örvandil-Egil and Groa.
Groa is a famous sorceress who once attempted to remove a piece of Hrungnir's
hone from Thor's forehead. Svipdag is identical to Odr, the husband
of Freyja.
