Hlaedr

The ranks within Drakür society are set up into threes as was typical of Indo-European culture along with a fourth substrata that lack civil rights and a voice within the Witan.  These three "castes" are based loosely on the Dumezilian "three functions".
You will notice there is a slight commonness with the Hindu Varna but in truth this is much more a throw back to the loose class structure of the Arya [the "Noble Ones", it is what they called themselves.] tribesmen had before they settled in India.
A Hlar or Lord represents each of these ranks on the Drakür's Witan. These ranks however are mobile and one can move up or down the pyramid given motivation and ability.  The structure is both inherited and merit based, E.G. one might be born a Guilthari but have skills in war and can move up the ladder by enlisting in a Fyrd and then pass down his new rank to his inheritors.
One enters the Freehold first as a Drall and once one has declared freedom they are taken into one of the three castes to continue in their lives as Drakür tribesmen depending on their skills and interests.

1. Konar: Warriors and nobles.  Three from among the warrior stand on the Witan to advise and choose the Herzog.

2. Tahru: Lawgivers. "Priests".  Derived from the word daro.  Three Tahru speak on the Witan.

3. Guilthari: Workers, Farmers and craftsmen, the Merchants. Three Guilthari speak on the Witan

4. Drall: A slave lacking in civil rights within the Freehold.  Used in this case to mean an initiate into the Drakür. A thousand years before they would have no doubt been a conquered tribe subject to their master's rule.  They are not represented on the Witan.
