Acting Tips

Make sure you have everything memorized. If you can recite it off the top of your head at any given moment
then you need more practice.

Get over stage fright. Don’t think of them as an audience, think of them as people who are just sitting. You
don’t freak out when you see people sitting in the food court.

Relax. If your audience sees you tense they may lose interest

Take time to look at people in the audience when your speaking. Try to do this at the beginning or the end of
the monologue to draw the audience in.

Don’t fiddle with hair, clothing or jewelry, it’s distracting to the audience. Keep watch at where your hands
are at all times.

Practice the speed at which you are speaking. Remember to speak slower than normal because sound needs to
carry through the theater.

BE LOUD!!!!!!! No one has ever been booted off stage for being too loud.

Be aware of your breathing. You don’t want to be out of breath in the middle of a monologue.

Before you begin take a deep breath to calm yourself.

DON’T EVER CHEW GUM!

Don’t beg off. Never say "Well my monologue won’t be as good as her’s" to the audience.

When your finished don’t just run off the stage. Stop, take a breath and then walk off the stage so the
audience has time to soak everything in.
