Chapter 1
   December 24, 1983...a family was murdered on this raining Christmas Eve.  The only survivor was a 12 year old girl.  Her parents and her older sister were all killed, and the boyfriend of her older sister was arrested as a suspect for the murder.

     Oba Minako (Nakayma Miho) oversleeps and wakes up late.  She immediately calls her fiance, Hamazaki Kiichiro (Nakamura Toru), to wake up, since she promised to.  The both of them quickly got ready and leave for work.
     At a nursery, Minako explains to some school children about Orchids as being the most insect-pollinated plants.  It is also used as inpiration for artists since it is said to be the sensual image of a woman.
     During lunch, Minako's colleague, Shoko talks to Minako about her having a Christmas Eve wedding.  Minako tells Shoko that at one time, she did suspect her fiance, but that would mean that she'll have to find out his past.  Minako doesn't want to find ou his past, because she is troubled by her own past...of family being murdered troubles her.  She doesn't remember much of her own past, so she hates the past.
     At dinner, Kiichiro talks to Minako about the human brain resembling all the stars in the Milky Way put together into a size of a softball and into you.  Minako listens with fascination.  Kiichiro continues explaining that the human brain is more advanced than any computer software, which continuously handles all the memories that is accumulated.  The longer you live, the more memories you would have.  He says that the present only lasts 8 seconds so hurry and live it.
