The
role played by OSS agents assigned to British operations has been mostly
ignored by the U.S. Media. The War in Europe as seen on the ground was quite
different from the war described by the US press. The Vietnam conflict was
an unfortunate era in America’s recent history. Very few of your listeners
know how it began. The decision makers did not always know the facts, and
those carrying their orders knew even less. The cold war following the hot
one scared our leaders to a point of inaction for fear of starting a 3rd
WW. The author of The Winking Fox reveals not only his WWII involvement
with Military Intelligence, but the ineptitude of his leaders. Major René
J. Défourneaux as a young Frenchman came to the US in 1939, joined the Us
Army in 1943 Trained as an Military Intelligence specialist he went to England
in 1944 where he was recruited by OSS. Transferred and trained by SOE he
parachuted in Occupied France to train and direct the activities of the
resistance. Subsequently transferred to Asia with an OSS team he parachuted
in Japan occupy Indochina to train natives recruited by Ho Chi Minh and
Vo Nguyên Giap. René Défourneaux has appeared in the BBC documentary Uncle
Ho & Uncle Sam, and several History and A&E channels. A Hollywood producer
is planning a docudrama based on the activities of the OSS team and Ho Chi
Minh. Défourneaux is the author of a article entitled A secret Encounter
with Ho Chi Minh which appeared in the August 9, 1966 issue of LOOK magazine.
