Saturday came none to soon. She had had the same dream every night
that school week, and it had been exhausting to her physically. The dreams
seemed to keep her from sleeping deeply, she would always wake up in the
dead of night, sweating and wide awake. It normally took an hour or two
before she could back to sleep, and that was normally a very light sleep.

Corrie supposed she should tell her parents about her odd
dreams, but she didn’t want to worry them. The last time this had
happened, it had caused more pain and grief then it was worth. She
had been young, maybe five or six, when the dreams first started.
But she never forgot them, never forgot crying in the middle of the
night, almost every night. She still remember clearly going to all
those specialists, each one saying this or that about why they thought
she was having these dreams. One doctor almost got her taken away from
her parents. But none had been able to solve the problem. None.

It had been God who had made them go away in the end. When
she became a Christian, the dreams seemed vanish and she had thought
they were gone for good. But now they were back. What was she to do?
Had she gotten God mad at her and now she was suffering? She didn’t
know. She just didn’t know.

Corrie lazily got herself dressed and ready for the day.
Morning had long since passed by the time she got out of the house
to do her weekly jog in Cemnen Park. She was glad to be past the
fear of that strange encounter she had there, it kept her from the
park for weeks. Now she could finally get back to her semi-normal
routine.

Yawning, she did her stretches, ignoring the occasional
glance she got from passer-byes. She’d much rather take a few stares
then jog in pain for the next half hour.

“Hey there!” said a voice from behind her. She looked in
surprise between her legs (she was doing a stretch that required
her to touch her toes). Walking shoes…. She thought, and straightened
herself up to see who’s shoes they belonged to.

“Oh…. Jared….” She didn’t even try to muster any excitement.
All she wanted was a nice jog in the park, without any unwelcome visitors.

Smiling, he asked, “Going for a morning jog?”

“Yes.” She replied simply. “If you’ll excuse me…” With that
she started off her morning jog, determined to get as far away from
Jared as possible. Even at the expense of being rude to him.

“Have I done something wrong?” She glance over to find Jared
jogging next to her. How she wanted to tell him to just get lost.
Her week had been bad enough as it was, she didn’t need him to add
to it.

She looked at him darkly, and speed up a bit more. Maybe she
could get him tired and he’d leave her alone…. “No, you haven’t done
anything wrong.” You just exist is all. She felt like adding.

He didn’t seem to notice her sudden hike in speed at all.
“Then what’s with the cold shoulder you’re giving me?”

“Uh….” How was she going to answer that question? Really,
why was she giving him the cold shoulder? He hadn’t done anything
that should cause her to be mad at him (he had even stopped messing
with the girls). “I just… I don’t….” What am I trying to say? She
thought to herself. Her feet seemed to become suddenly heavy, so
heavy that she had to stop jogging.

Quickly getting off the path, she found the nearest tree and
leaned against it, sweating slightly. She glanced at him. He was
still there, waiting for an answer. What am I going to say? She
thought frantically to herself. It popped out of her with surprising
ease. “I’m sorry… I just haven’t been sleeping well and I wanted to
jog alone…I’ve been so tired lately…”

He looked relieved at what she had said. “Is that all?
I really thought I’d gotten you mad at me.” Leaning forward,
he raised an eyebrow. “If you had wanted to run by yourself,
you could have just said.”

Feeling ashamed of how she had treated him, she apologized
saying, “Yeah, I really am sorry. I had no right to snap at you
like that.” She put her hands on her face, rubbing them up and down
tiredly. Suddenly sticking her right hand out, she asked, “Forgive me?”

Smiling, he took her hand and shook it. “Sure.” There
was a moments silence. “I’ll just… leave you to your jog. You
said you wanted to be alone, right?” Backing up, he turned and
walked away, calling out. “Have a nice day!”

She watched Jared walk away, soon losing sight of him as he turned
a corner on the path. “….I love you….” The thought popped up out of no
where. Alarmed she stood up completely straight like a rod. She glanced
around, wondering if anyone was around, afraid that she might have spoken
the thought aloud. She surely could not have thought that… could she?

Gulping, she thought, “Corrie get a grip… get a grip…” Glance down
at herself, she was surprised to see her hands shaking violently. She
shook them in an effort to stop the shaking but it didn’t work.

“What’s happening…?” she thought frantically. Then everything
started to go dark. She felt her knees give out under her. “Someone
help me…!!” She felt her mind cry out before she black out.
