after greeting us, ian acknowledged the strange setup in this place. there were stairs down the front of the stage leading to a little ledge where about 40 people stood. so the band could look out and see 40 people in front of them and a bunch of sitters in the balcony. considering that, they put on a great show. i can't ever remember hearing "latin roots" live before. that was nice. the drug kids ruined it pretty early on by being jerks. i couldn't see brendan or joe from where i was standing. it looked to me like the band was having some trouble connecting with us. guy broke a string during his new song. ian broke one during shut the door. all that guitar abuse kept jerry busher busy stringing guitars. and speaking of which...
i have to admit when i first saw jerry come on stage with his trumpet a year ago, i thought he was invading our space. i didn't really care for it. now i've come to anticipate his part of the show and expect the heavy drums he provides.
the moshers, talkers, hecklers, idiots, one crowdsurfer, and heroin kids made it hard to credit the audience with anything. no offense to my knoxville friends, but some kids there do not know how to show their appreciation for loud music without getting stupid and angry. i tried to ignore them. a couple of us really had good clean fun, but we may have been in the minority.
i had a really great time. fugazi always give it their all.
there will be a tape floating around, but i did not get the recorder's phone number. keep checking the ftp site. he told me he's taped a couple other shows on the tour too.
update: has anyone heard from this guy? still no word here.
