GUY - we really do not think that we changed style, it is more one progression, an evolution. Of each disc which one leaves we think that we reached a stage in the way of also playing together and in the best manner of apréhender the capacities of the recording studio. We try not to repeat ourselves, to remake the same things. We are not interested in forcing ourselves to write new songs just to have new songs. The idea is to let the progression be done naturally and to play all that passes to us by the head. For example, when the group started it only had one guitarist - with REPEATER we added a second guitar and now, on our next album we will have two drummers on a good half of the tunes.
R - into live, to you leave a space for the improvs?
G - yes. We never use a setlist so that we can make the tunes as they come. We have déveloped a way of using signals (sign of the hand, certain calls mixed in tune etc.) to indicate to each one among us which tune we will play next. We also tend towards the modification, the reorganization of the tunes into live. There is much space in our musics to extend certain passages over a longer duration and to work them over again by nourishing only the EC what the others of the groups at one precise moment play. We try to maximize our freedom on stage... we are not a jukebox which always plays the same thing every evening.
R - and the new album...
G - we just finished recording a new album with 13 new tunes which we prepare since September. Now we work together on the artwork, but that takes much time. There are many different sounds in that there. As I said, a second drummer/percussionist (jerry busher, for a long time our roadie) who plays on many tunes of this album - there are also friends with us who sing (back ups) and a cello player... thus they are not only the 4 members of fugazi.
R - why doesn't one very often see you in France?
G - we've done 5 tours to France since 1988!! Besides our first tour where we played only bets, each time we at least made 6 dates... It is sure that we will return, but probably not this year because our bass player and his wife await a child.
R - you have déja thought of working with other artists?
G - I never really thought of working with other artists with fugazi. Ian played with Al jourgensen in pailhead - brendan with played with lois and the all scars. Me, I work courament with other people in my job of producer. I produced groups like the make-up and blonde readhead...
R - your best memory with fugazi?
G - we were in round in Australia and I was caught a bread by a kangaroo. We camped on the beach when a kangaroo emerges from the bushes. I then approached him and gave him bread, when it considering when that I in did not have any more, he started with really exciting himself. I tried to bar me when it jumped in the air and put to me a bread in full mouth!! It is really that with fugazi that I can have the occasion to make me strike by such an animal.
