Drayn Combat: Basic Rules
Basic Rules
Combat
- Commence battle by, when the referee says it is your turn,
giving a command based on your situation. Your opponent will be
given a chance to retaliate. And so on. The referee will guide
you.
- Know your moves and spells. We don't want you to waste time
looking them up during a fight.
- The referee will keep a private conversation with each player
at all times, this conversation is referred to in the rules simply
as 'Private'. Use this conversation to ask for your current HP, or
to ask a question (eg: "Can I hit him from here?").
- Telling the ref that you will "Probe" an opponent during
physical contact means that the ref will show you your opponent's
HP in Private.
- The referee can call a player who is not typing for very long
on "Delay". The time you are given for Delay is based on your
experience with the game, so Delay should not be common for new
players; experienced ones are expected to react faster. Delay ends
your chance to take an action.
- There are a variety of status conditions in the main rules.
You may wish to look at them and understand them even though a ref
will explain them when they occur. The Automatic Forfeit rules
(like Extreme Blood Loss) are of special importance. Other
conditions (such as being a frozen solid Water Elemental) can lead
to a quick death, too. Be on your guard.
- Known as the Creatures of Honour rule, all races in this game
prefer not to kill their own people in formal tournament (they
prefer to let them live with the loss). This rule is in place to
keep PCs from dropping off left and right whenever they face some
ruthless player.
Out-of-Combat
- Players are expected to make daily posts or a weekly summary
to wherever we currently collect posts (at the moment, via Email).
This details what you do each day.
- Dependent on your rank/job, you will have to spend a certain
part of the week at work instead of training. The lower the pay,
the less you work.
- Higher Stats are better stats. Better weapons win fights
faster. New moves can help in ways you may not expect (and ways
you do). So train, buy and be ready!
- See 'Training' in the member's area for specifics.
- We, the GMs, screen your posts and will feel free to edit out
anything we consider inappropriate and give you a warning the
first time. You can swear as appropriate or talk about near
anything, but please nothing overboard.
- Do not offend players. In-character rivalries are acceptable
but personal attacks, especially those of any discriminatory form
will likely result in automatic and indefinite suspension.
General
- Hyphens and minus signs often appear near each other for stat
purposes. We apologize. In most cases (the exceptions being
accidental), a minus sign will contact the rest of the number.
- The differences in stats do not mean much. While obviously a
difference of 100 points in a stat is quite a range, a smaller
range, sometimes even as high as 20, means little to nothing.
- The Basic Rule: Nothing is impossible, both in life and the
game (but I'm not here to talk about life). For Warhammer players:
its not likely that a Snotling base take out a Great Unclean One,
even a wounded one, but it can happen (I've heard of one at the
local GW). For Civilization players, its not likely that your
stone-axe armed Warrior will beat the fortifying Mech Infantry in
the mountain fortress (in fact it's near impossible) but it could
happen! My point is, there's the slimmest chance of anything, so
take risks!
- Follow the posting procedure. It's not hard.
- Again, be a good sport.
- Again, listen to the ref.
- Finally: there will be no acting drastically out of character.
No complaining about an ongoing war because of the Human (or
Deious) cost and then suggest using Bio-Weaponry. No hating
someone on every level and then giving them a warrior's burial
when you kill them (someone out there knows what I'm talking
about). You understand.
- Oh, wait, one more. The Drayn Alliance has had two spellings
throughout production: "Deious" and "Dieous". We seem to have
settled on Deious, so please point out any of the old spellings
that have slipped by.
