Quick Background History

From "Simplicity - Everything they Teach you in School That's Actually Useful" by Marian Invernt.

This is my own write-up. I enjoyed it. Read the summaries if you don't feel like reading it all. Oh, I'd like to say that I don't disrespect the Drayn, I just think they crashed and burned thanks to their own stupidity. That is to say, they were respectful once....

In the beginning in the Dalka System, there were the Drayn, who were very uncreative with names. For starters, they named their homeworld "Drayn". They called their moon "Moon of Drayn" and later, once they built the space cities that we called the satellites they called them "Drayn 2" through "Drayn 9", renaming their moon "Drayn 1". But enough about the lack of creativity of our predecessors, the Drayn accomplished much in their heyday - building tall cities, the aforementioned space satellites and thrived when they were not, as all intelligent creatures, trying to stab one another in their sleep (I mean, making war). The Drayn had banished the only other intelligent creature on their planet, called 'Pheonians', to the tops of the mountains years ago so when something involving another race (few Drayn records survive) happened to the Drayn in outer space, they began to get extremely paranoid.

Summary: The Drayn, a great and all powerful uber-race, becomes scared of everything down to their own shadow because some alien frightened a scout ship.

So the Drayn, deciding that they are incapable of fighting interstellar wars (despite the fact that they had a Tourney of Arms annually, but I digress), decide to get other races to do their dirty business. They find the Holographics (guess who named them?) as "bodiless floats of life" (that's seriously what this document says) that recharged themselves at a huge crystal on their homeworld and amused themselves by changing their DNA to match that of nearby creatures. Being offered a new body, the Holographics became allies of the Drayn. Then the Elementals join in in exchange for diagrams of what they did not know was fifty-year old spacecraft.

Summary: The Drayn spend their expansive wealth bribing alien races to fight as soldiers in their underfunded army.

Setting out a batch of laws that would change little over the years, the Drayn decide that they still (yes, still) need new allies. So, fed up, they create one as a display of their biotechnological know-how: the first Drazon (that's Dragon with a letter changed, they're improving). Finding their new creations to be unstably violent, the Drayn ammended their laws in such a way to curb the primal nature of the Drazon (now known as Bloodrage). However, believing that the majority of the Drazon had no desire to learn magic, the Drayn used a very light protective spell to spare them against any Drazon insurrection and taught magic only to a select few prospects (the Mage 'clan'). However, a rebellious Drayn ally, the little-heard of until resent times 'Darangath', taught spells to counter these defenses to Firestorm Drazon who used it when a series of events (details pending) sparked a Drazon rights movement. However, the zeal of the Firestorm and of Darkclaw leader Zorak Faldion, coupled with Drayn resistance lowered the movement to a fight. In hopes of ending the bloodshed, Faldion challenged the Drayn champion to single combat. Upon his victory hours later, the Firestorm took it upon themselves to erupt most of the volcanos on Drayn in an attempt to wipe out their parent race. They succeeded and years later the last Drayn was hunted and killed in the Sol system. In the wake of their destruction, the Drayn managed to destroy the majority of the Darangath, gathered together in festivity, and inadvertently managed to destroy the Mage and Clericy Drazon clans.

Summary: Drayn create Drazon (hi!). Drayn underestimate Drazon. Drazon kill all Drayn. Drayn kill all Darangath and accidentally kill all Mage and religion-related Drazon clans ("whoops") before losing the fight.

Zorak Faldion is named ruler of the Drazon, but soon disappears, fed up with his races treatment of the Drayn. Calmed down, the other tribes take out their loss on the combatant tribe of the Noctur who are blamed for killing the last few Drazon without "permission of the council" (which they had). The tribe of Torchbearers, already angry over losing the Drayn and getting angrier seeing a fellow tribe take blame for an event that they were not at fault for, backs out of the alliance and soon heading to war against it. The Nocturs soon follow. Without Faldion and a mass of Elemental support, the new, fragile alliance begins to suffer under the weight of the Anarchy that wracked the Drazon and Holographic. The Dalka System's borders merge with the Chavrac System's and the different speed of time in the two universes cause a massive vortex that holds the new system down for many centuries.

Summary: Drazon make two of their tribes, the Nocturs and Torchbearers, very angry and they end up in a war. The first Drazon king, after doing as much good as he good, disappears. Drayn's universe and another universe extend into one another and, since the speed of time was different in each universe, there is a huge vortex that pins down the new universe for a long time.

After the vortex ended, the Deious leaders were challenged and defeated by one who would be called the Deviat (emperor) who started to change things. He brought the Deious back together, including the races who lived outside the vortex. He started the mutation/immigration programs. He pressed the war with the Torchbearers while the Nocturs slipped into virtual obscurity. He also created a league of personal assassins. In wake of these changes, a small tribe of Drazon left alone seperated by the vortex to develop on Earth arrived to make peace with its fellow Drazon and they begin to work on ways to bring human support to the Deious.

Summary: Deious are taken over by a strange new leader who makes a lot of good/bad changes. My Drazon Tribe (the Nightwings), forced to live on Earth because of the vortex, arrives to rejoin the Deious.

Current Age:

In resent years there have been a few major changes. A migrant race called the Seruu attacked and colonized a Holographic moon. Their plant life began to contaminate Holographic resources and Deious attempts to destroy them fail. The Chieftain of the Mage clan loses control of a spell meant to be rid of the Seruu and destroys himself, the Seruu and the moon in an extreme backlash of energy. The Deviat was usurped by three human immigrants to the Drazon, Holographics and Elementals (respectively) who discovered that the Deviat was about to turn on the Tolindans in wake of Torchbearer peace talks. The Torchbearer peace talks succeed at last and they are admitted as a seperate race to the Deious in effort to maintain their own rule. Aid is sent to the Sealtion race of Talador to genetically modify their bodies to make better use of the land and a land colony is established. The Firestorm clan of Drazon, angry at these new changes and fiercely loyal to the late Deviat declare war on the Deious and destroy the Sealtion hold.

Summary: Aliens called the Seruu take over a Holographic moon. After the military fails, a great Mage mucks up a spell and destroys himself, the Seruu and the moon. The Deviat is killed by human immigrants who become the new Horuses (Kings, they're all male). Under the new government, the war stops with the Torchbearers and the Sealtions of Talador are given aid. But the Firestorm Drazon hate this and attack their old allies. Welcome back to war.
