Thoughts on School

We sit all day and do our work.
We do what others say.
When will we change our lives
And begin a brand-new day?

When one considers the average day at school,
It’s innocent at first
You sit in a desk and learn new things
And eat food that will make you burst

A closer look reveals more
About the real problem
The teachers teach curriculum
Which fights individualism

All through school, you learn the same
As each one of your neighbors
You chew the same gum, you do the same work,
And all share common labors.

The gifted are given no special help
No ben’fits ‘bove the rest
But the “challenged” are given lots of support to help them
“do their best”

One day we shall learn to fight the red tide
Which flows over our nation’s schools
We’ll learn to encourage individual pride
And laugh at our days lived as fools.
