The Hollow Faces

Around the room, his eyes did sweep
The lot of them he saw
The people at the dining place
They’d not inspire awe.

The first in line, the candy man,
A friend to every child
But unknown to the common man,
His temperament weren’t mild.
Beneath his smile, great malice lay
And in his candy, drugs
He scorned the joy of little kids
Deceived them with fake hugs

Next to eat, the lover boy
His face appears so sweet.
To his girl, at first he loves
But at night does her beat.
His sights set dually on two things
Her money and her sex
He loves her not for who she is
Cares not that she he wrecks

In line behind them, comes a man
With soot upon his face.
He seems as one to keep far from
And from your mind erase.
But in his heart are nobler things.
To charity he gives.
He does his best to help the world
For that is how he lives.

These people here, and many more
All keep their true selves hid
They do that which their id demands
But let none see this id.
