![]() Base Jumping in the SahyadrisBase Jumping is the extreme sport of jumping off fixed objects and deploying a parachute after free fall. The word 'Base' is formed from the letters denoting the objects (B: bridge, A: antenna, S: span, ie, bridge and E: earth structure, ie, cliff). As can be inferred from the definition, it requires a special individual with special courage and special equipment to be a Base jumper. Base jumps have been made at many sites all around the world, but not yet in the Sahyadris. However, that is about to change soon. Kris Kalapala and his team will be taking Base Jumping to new heights. They will be jumping off the Konkan Kada, becoming the first humans to make the jump ..... and survive! Kris will also be taking a GPS unit with him on his jump, so the rest of us can share in the excitement by knowing his exact trajectory and velocity throughout the jump! Stay tuned to this website for photographs and GPS data of this historic event. Attached below are some photos of Kris's previous jumps. ![]() Kris has just leapt off the cliff edge ![]() .. and away he goes! Watch that cool wing-suit on him!
