Overall Rating = B+
Note: All A ratings were given to superior gourmet food. A+’s were only given to food that actually made us make noises of joy. In my roommates’ case, anything that made her cry (in a good way) got an A+. Above average, very respectable food received B ratings. C’s were average food that was a cut above McDonalds. D ratings are of the processed, fast food variety and F’s are things that I would not feed my dog.
SERVER - (Matsie) Our server
Matsie was very helpful, efficient and also gave us recommendations for
other dining experiences based on our taste. I will be adding Palio
at the Swan for future dining.
NOISE LEVEL – Very Low (but we were
there right when they opened and they were not full). Lovely Booths.
KIDS – ¼ of the table had
children present. No kid meltdowns when we were there.
ATMOSPHERE – Lovely, 30’s style Hollywood
décor. Very open. Get a booth if you can so you can
get a view of the whole floor.
COST - Moderate $$
Steamed Price Edward Island Mussels
in Pressed Apple Cider, Thyme and Leeks - $6.50 (B+)
The mussels had a delicate flavor.
The cider gave the dish a slightly tart tang. I found this to be
not too filling.
Cremini Mushroom and Chevre Cheese
Raviolo, tossed with Basil, Tomatoes and Citrus, Garlic Broth -
$6 (A)
Marvelous, absolutely fabulous. Just
the right blending of flavors. The garlic complements the cheese
and mushroom without being overpowering.
Orecchiette Little Ear Pasta with Spinach,
Zucchini, Portobello Mushrooms and Basil Cream Sauce with Shrimp -
$18.30 (A-)
Wonderful, delicate sauce with the right
balance of vegetables. The shrimp add a nice touch. They were
fairly large and not overcooked. You can get them added to the dish or
have it without.
Grilled 10oz. New York Strip Steak
marinated in Ale with Chimichurri and Boniato Potatoes - $18
(B)
Cooked to perfection. The seasonings
were just right and did not over power the meat. The steak itself
gets an A however the salty potatoes brought down the score.
Blueberry Crème Brulee
– $5.00 (B-)
A tad too sweet. This dish does not
have the solid caramelized sugar topping that is the signature to Crème
Brulee. It was more like a cobbler or Dutch Apple Pie topping
where bits of sugar were sprinkled about. This took away a bit for
us and we spent the rest of our trip searching for the perfect Crème
Brulee with traditional top. Did we find it? Stay tuned.
Grapefruit Cake - $5.00
(A-)
Light cake with cream cheese frosting and
the slight tang of grapefruit. Not too sweet, very refreshing.
A lovely summer treat but a winner no matter the time of year.
Cosmopolitan - $5.75 (A) and
Sour Green Apple Martini - $6.75 (A)
Served in chilled glasses, the Cosmo was
made with gin instead of vodka and a tad sweet. Very nice.
The martini was very good and NO cherry was added (I hate it when bar tenders
do this. The maraschino cherry juice changes the taste of the drink).
