Chefs de France (Lunch), France - EPCOT

Overall Rating = B+

Note:  All A ratings were given to superior gourmet food.  A+’s were only given to food that actually made us make noises of joy.  In my roommates’ case, anything that made her cry (in a good way) got an A+.  Above average, very respectable food received B ratings.  C’s were average food that was a cut above McDonalds.  D ratings are of the processed, fast food variety and F’s are things that I would not feed my dog.

SERVER - (Marine)  Nice, sweet but a bit absent. It was just like Paris
NOISE LEVEL – Moderate. The tables are fairly close but we were there early.
KIDS – More kids at this establishment. I expect to see more at Park restaurants than resort restaurants. One was a demanding whiner but we were almost done by that time and since that was the first even slightly fussy child we had seen so far, I thought this was very good.
ATMOSPHERE – Café-type
COST - Moderate $$<

NOTES: We were the 3rd party to arrive and the only one with PS but we were seated 3rd. This put me in a bit of a snarky mood. I felt that we should have been seated first and then our waitress was a bit slow. However she did earn extra points for going to the kitchen and bringing me pats of real butter instead of the margarine grease/butter combo thing they were trying to foist on me.

Escargot with Garlic and Parsley Butter- $8 (A)
Excellent. This placed just outside of the top 5 spots in the Best Appetizer contest. Wonderful, balanced flavors.  Rich but not too heavy. The BEST thing about this dish is after you eat the snails, there is enough garlic, parsley butter to dip your bread in. YUMMMM

Baked Goat Cheese - $6.25 (A-)
Light, flaky pastry tops this mild cheese creation. The cheese is folded into a pastry shell with tomato added. There could be a tad more formage (cheese) so you get some at the ends. A small side of greens tossed in a light citrus dressing nicely compliments this dish.

Salmon on Artichoke Hearts- $16  (B)
Nice flavor but a tad too cooked for me. Nice bitter greens (if you like that sort of thing) are served in a basket shaped from a crepe.

Chicken with Mushrooms and Potatoes- $15.50 (B)
The meat was a little dry (do I see a trend?) However if you cut up the chicken and mix it with the mushrooms and sauce, it improves. A bit more sauce to offset the dryness would be nice.

Chocolate Mousse Cake with Vanilla Creame - $5.75 (B+)
Nice. A tad too rich but nice. Respectable but not outstanding. On a side note, I wanted Creme Brulee (still searching for the hard sugar crust) and was told that theirs was more like a custard with no crust at all! That was not acceptable.

Crepe Melba - $5.75 (A-)
Pastry creame filled crepe topped with peaches and vanilla ice cream. Very nice however the peaches were canned and that detracted from the taste just a tad. It would have been better with fresh peaches. Still a very yummy dessert and VERY large.
