Review from November 2002 by Deirdre
Sargent:
Splash Mountain is always fun and a itty
bit scary. Part small dips, part singing animals and one long, long
flume ride to the bottom.
This ride is based on the Disney movie "Song of the South". Don't remember it? Don't worry, Disney will never re-release it on video or in the theatre's again due to it's "non-PC" nature. It's the story of Uncle Remus telling tales of Brier Fox, Brier Bear and wily Brier Rabbit to his charges. The tales themselves are entertaining with good morals and the live action/animation combo is truly quality. However, this is a film of a specific time period where an elderly black man is entertaining two impectably dressed white children while the ragged black kids are kicked to the side.
The ride only deals with small vingets from the Brier Rabbit stories minus the slave connotations of the Deep South. It's a bit strange to tie pieces of this ride together visually without a bit of knowledge as to what is going on. To round out the experience, they used animal animatronic refuges from the now defunct "America Sings" ride to populate a rockin' Dixie Riverboat. Whatever.
The main feature of this ride is the flume. This still gets me and it can be a bit scary as you are hauled up and up and up to the top. I get pretty wet if I am seated in the front. Ladies, remember if you are going to go on ANY water rides in any park either (a) don’t wear a white shirt and if you do, ALWAYS wear a bra!!!
An A-for thrills and chills. Teens will adore this ride. A definate winner but get a FastPass to by-pass long lines..
Kid Grade (PG-13): This ride has a height limit. Do NOT fudge on this and put your kids in platform shoes. It is for their safety! Be a parent, not a jellyfish. If your child has issues with heights, you might want to skip this. 8+ should be fine.
