This section will serve to give
game tips and various tit bits of info to help things go smoother, as well
as serve as the Contender Arena for various "Best of....." sections.
The contest for the best driver has started,
so head off to the ignition page where you can find out what u must to
in order to compete, it is open to anyone who owns a copy of the game.
Simply Download the "ghost files" and try and beat them.......if you can
; )
Otherwise, lets start things off on
a Diablo note :
You all are no doubt aware of the
success of Diablo II, but as with all things, success of a sequel is usually
based upon a rather ground braking original. This is definitely the case
with Diablo. The original's blend of "microscopic" RPG elements mixed with
extremely detailed graphics (for its time, and even for today's standards
!), and the unmistakable Diablo soundtrack. The one thing that made me
want to get hold of the collectors edition of Diablo II was the fact that
you would get an audio CD with all the diablo tracks on there. In my opinion
Diablo has THE most atmospheric soundtrack in a game ! It is an acquired
taste, but mesmerizing none the less.
Alas, they did not sell any Collectors
editions here in South Africa, or at least in Cape Town (Damn u Blizzard
!!). So I had to settle for the freely... (I had to put that word
in , in case some of u think foul of me ;-)... donwloadable mp3's
from Diabloii.net If you are a music fundy there are some rather exceptional
tunes, but if u don't know which one to try out first, I wholeheartedly
recommend "Tristram" the title track that just puts you into the right
mood while playing Diablo I. If you own Diablo II, it is the tune that
plays when you rescue Cain from the burnt out Tristram (except that is
a modified version, the mp3 is the original version, and it is the whole
song as well !).
Enough rants about the music, there
was an "official" expansion pack for Diablo I, called Hellfire, that was
made by Sierra. Unfortunately they cut out the one thing that made the
original so satisfying....Multiplayer. There were a number of enhancements,
namely 1 extra class, the "Monk", 2 new map tile sets, and a whole bunch
or weapons. Sadly I have not yet found anyone of the weapons they show
on the box art, and I have a level 28 Warrior. Enough moaning, lets get
to the juicy bits, as with all things computer related, if something looks
like it aint broke, you can always try and fix it. Case and point Multiplayer,
I found a patch on the net that lets you play Hellfire in Multi- Player
mode, but no Battle.net unfortunately, so it's either going to be a direct
modem battle, or a local LAN option (better than nothing I say).
But it does not end there, If you
download the latest patch for hellfire from Sierra's web site, a couple
of extra goodies become available, like 2 extra character classes, and
2 extra quests, which are available after creating a command.txt file in
the hellfire directory. And seeing that Diablo I is on budget here in South
Africa it is definitely worth the R100, I picked up my copy of Hellfire
at "Cash Converters" also for R100 but I was lucky, like the time I picked
up Heretic 2 for R70, hehe, they are such dumb asses I swear, I almost
got Deus Ex for the same price, but some punk stole the CD out of the box.
How people who don't know shit about computers or software get put in such
positions I don't know, and here I am sitting without a job, tsk tsk !
Enough whining, so start downloading
the files dammit !
