James LaBrie is perhaps the key ingredient to the Dream Theater recipe. His singing has become synonymous with the music of Dream Theater. James joined the band for Images and Words, replacing then singer Charlie Dominici. Most DT fan will agree this change was for the best. For example, listen to Another Hand/The Killing Hand on When Day and Dream Unite (with Charlie Dominici) and then to a live version with James Labrie(Live at the Marquee or on Hollow Years CD Single). The difference is noticably different. LaBrie's vocals range from soulful(The Silent Man, Take Away My Pain, Space Dye-Vest) to deep(Lie, Learning to Live), and everything all mixed together(A Change of Seasons.)
