~ The SPEED's Gals & Their History ~

The 4 gals (Hiroko,Eriko,Takako & Hitoe) wsa born in Okinawa Prefecture in Japan. And whilst spending their formative years at the reowned Okinawa Actor's School , they met and became close buds.Still prepubescent teens , the girls auditioned together for a dance-vocal unit and got the job,but SPEED was yet to be.

After moving to Tokyo , the girls caught the public eye as unamed group appearing on a variety show. From a modest beginning , they speedily gained popularity.

Come 1996 , a nationwide poll was conducted helping the gals to pick a name for their group through a TV programme "The Yoru Mo Hippare". And SPEED was it... Aptly. Then , quicker than none other things... the girls pump out their first debut single "Body & Soul" and it immediatly chalked up 800,000 copies in sales. This figure is nothing compared to their first album , "Starting Over" , with a whopping 2.45 million copies sold all over the islands in Japan.

Since then, the girls whose average age only 15 - 16 have been hogging the charts and winning over one acclaim after another.

Despite the fact that they were young , they've break the record as being the youngest singer/group holding their 1st tour concert in the 4 DOMEs (Tokyo Dome , Osaka Dome , Nagoya Dome and Fuokuka Dome) in 1998 and also the youngest for appearing in the NHK "The Kahuku"

The popularity for the 4 girls had been rising and rising not only in Japan but all over Asia once after their 1st Best Album "Moment The Best Album" releases . Till then , a news of SPEED DISBAND was released out from their company "Rising Network" (presently known as Freegate) on Oct.1999 shocked their fans all over. Their last tour concert "Final DOME Tour" tickets were out completely within 3 hours on the first day of tickets selling.

31st March 2000, Speed did their last live performance in "Music Station". On the same day, 31st March was also the day which SPEED officially disband.

From then, Eriko , Hiroko and Takako begins their solo works in Dramas , Movies as well as releasing their Solo singles and Album while Hitoe proceed to New York for her Design and Dance lessons...

The girls finally got a chance to get together last year on the 06/10/2001 for a charity concert "Awaji Yumebutai" in Awaji. This was a one and only one night SPEED re-formed charity concert after a year odd of disband. ( More details on the Concert CLICK HERE )
