Mahasangha Dana: The Uncountable Great Merits. In Buddhism, The Lord Buddha said that the concept of "Sangha Dana" is to offer food, money, or other necessity without specification to monks. In other words, offering Dana to the whole Sangha instead of offering to an individual monk. The idea is that people will treat all the monks equally. This results in huge, uncountable merits. Even though you may offer a little, it is like you offer a lot, because you are offering to the whole Sangha. Dhammakaya Jetiya is the Triple Gem The Dhammakaya Jetiya
is the Buddhist holy place, The Day of History in Thai Buddhism. Sunday February 3, 2002 was a historical day in Thai Buddhism. It was an unforgettable day because monks from over 30, 000 temples in Thailand came to the Dhammakaya Jetiya in order to give the lay people a chance to offer Mahasangha Dana and show gratitude. The special occasion was Khun Yays cremation. Khun Yay Maha Rattana Ubasika Chandra Khonnokyung is the Founder of Wat Phra Dhammakaya, Phathumtani Thailand (The Dhammakaya Foundation). It is a miracle that
abbots from each temple from all over Thailand, with their beautiful robes,
looking like the victory flags of Arahat waving over the open space around the
Dhammakaya Jetiya, got together in the open space around the Dhammakaya Jetiya.
The lay people dressed in clean, white outfits offered money and necessity to
the whole Sangha. The cool, peaceful atmosphere spread all over the place. Both monks and lay people felt the pride and the joy of peace as it refreshed, rejuvenated, and soothed the mind and body. It was a day that you will remember for the rest of your life. This whole picture represents the unity of monks, nuns, laymen, and laywomen. This unity will help Buddhism prosper for a very long time.
