03/21/01 - The Child has a violin concert tonight. The old concert clothes didn't fit. We had to buy new everything. It must be black and white. The Child's new clothes pictured with the baby quilt I made him in 1988. We walked into the store and The Child looked at me, "Boys department?" he asked. That was a tough one to answer. The Child will be 13 next month. I probably should have taken him to the men's department. I'm pretty sure he would have been able to fit into men's smalls. But, I didn't. I decided we'd try the boys department one last time. The Child is my baby. And anyway, boys sizes run to size 20 and I was sure he wasn't larger than that. The last set of concert clothes was a size 14. He looked like a flood victim in those now. He tried the 18's. It all fit with room to grow. I think I discovered the difference between boys and men ... It's the waist size. The waist on the boys pants was very trim. The concert was actually very good. Between the various bands, orchestras, and choral groups, there were 600 performers. The Child plays first chair of the 2nd violins in his middle school's advanced orchestra. It's his thing. He loves it. I got to the concert a bit early. I didn't need to considering I was alone. It's not hard to find a seat, even in a crowded gym, when you are alone. But it was nice to be there letting my mind wander, enjoying the inspiration, totally alone, not accounting to nobody for nothing. Today is the first day of spring. Today is also the 28th anniversary of my first marriage. March 21, 1973 The Tulip Gardens, Golden Gate Park San Francisco, California |
