| 03/24/01 - It's Saturday and I'm running off to enjoy my weekend but, I need to get a few things off my mind. It's best not to have anything on my mind for the weekend, I've found. So, on that note, I put the song of the day on the CD player, "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" Cyndi Lauper, 1979. This reminds me of a brief conversation I had a while back with a 20 year old girl. Seems we were both day dreaming about the same man. I suggested she dream about someone closer to her own age. Her response ... "I just wanna be happy." Yeah, don't we all. I spent bunches of time reading book reviews this week. Most of the books were not mainstream. I like doing this. I like seeing what real authors come up with, plots, setting, characters. I scribbled down a few more plots of my own. I even went so far as to write the first page of a story, but I threw it away. I'm still struggling with my stupid voice. Damn, when will I get over this. I'm stuck. My Friend has his own issue that he stuggles with. I think these stuggles have a purpose. I don't think it's necessary to "get over it" so quickly. There's an answer somewhere and it's making it's way up to the surface. OK, that worked ... The mind is clearing. I came up with a few "keeper" sites this week, at least temporarily. They are kind of time sensitive. Knopf Publishing Group/Poetry Center This one is going to have all kinds of neat stuff for National Poetry Month in April. Caution: It seems you need to sign up for the newsletter to get the neat stuff. No problem, you can always cancel in May. Then there is the Mark Twain Writing Competition. I liked the idea of this competition and the site contains some interesting information on Mark Twain. There you can also read the first two chapters of his short story, "A Murder, A Mystery and A Marriage." Let your mind wander from there. Last, the postcard site of the week: Just-So Literary Postcards These were great! The site was fun to browse through. The cards come out real cute. Everything seemed to work well to me. I was sent a copy of the card I sent and it looked cool. However, the one card I sent was never received. Go figure! So, just a few more things to do and I'm off ... Girls just wanna, just wanna ... Girls just wanna, just wanna ... |
