| 04/18/01 - It's amazing how a box of corn dogs can inspire solidarity. It was a jumbo box of jumbo corn dogs. No one would have to fight over them, plenty for everyone. There we all sat, the happy family, munching dogs, working on the Prehistoric Giants, talking about spinal meningitis. There's an outbreak in our town, a 16 year old boy died from it Monday. There's a sort of panic going on around us. None of my guys had been in direct contact with the boy, they don't attend the same school. I just talked about symptoms a bit. The Kid warned us not to be drinking from anybody's soda. The Kid and I went to Costco together. It was my day off. He insists we need to buy q-tips ... 2,500 q-tips? And, 5 pounds of gummy worms. He guesses we spent $200. Ka ching ... $196. I hadn't gone last month, so it wasn't really too bad. On the way home we stopped at Hollywood Video. The Kid chose Charlie's Angels. I chose Mr. T & The Women. This is my attempt to talk about my actual day. My days don't consist of much to talk about usually, whose do? It's the things I think about that are more interesting. But today, I kind of just put the thinking aside. Both of those movies sucked big time. Actually, Drew Barrymore wasn't bad. Unfortunately I was already losing interest in Richard Gere ... It might be unrecoverable now. But there was something very special about the evening, we all sat there together, continuing our solidarity, booing the movie in unison. It's not too often that me and the boys are all together any more. It was a very good thing. |
