| 04/20/01 - I'm up early. My boss invited me to go to a craft show with her today. After what happened with another co-worker the other day, I had to think about it. But my boss and I get along well. She's funny and cute. I like her. It's been forever since I've gone out and done girlfriend stuff. Well, I went shopping with Pris last year, she helped me pick out a swim suit. And Pris and I went out to dinner and dancing a few times. Lol. With my strange hours it's kind of difficult. There aren't many women home during the day except those with kids and I'd just as soon pass on hobnobbing with them. Pris once asked me to go to a big event in town. She said another friend of hers was going with us too. When we went to get the friend, she insisted on bringing her kids ... All four of them. It wasn't much fun. We're going to a crafts show. It's a big one at the Fairgrounds. This brought back old memories of mine. My first husband was an artist. We used to do lots of crafts shows and fairs including the State Fair and the Rennaisance Fair. It was like belonging to the circus. There was a whole circuit. There was a whole strange lifestyle to it too. I still have a couple of the crafts I bartered for in those days. We did a lot of trading between ourselves. Then about 10 years ago I was involved in quilting here in my town. I would occasionally attend quilt shows with my quilting group, even entered my quilts in some. There would always be a large group of booths devoted to selling quilting supplies. It was difficult for me to purchase things in those days. My quilts were made the pioneer way, with scraps. I would have to use my money on admission and if I was lucky, I'd be able to buy a thimble or a package of needles ... Of course I'd splurge on gold needles, live it up. But then as now, the fun of getting out and doing something different is very appealing. I'm not big into collecting crafty knic knacks, I'm not much of a consumer. I still don't have much money for extras. When I splurge now it's mostly on books and cd's. I have a good life, I'm not lacking for anything. But, when opportunity knocks ... |
