05/18/01 - The Child is in Disneyland performing with his middle school orchestra. Three days of fun and independence (for the most part). The performance is 30 minutes. He deserves this, he totally deserves this.

The first part of this week I was busy getting The Child ready for his adventure. This last part of the week I am busy getting ready for The Scientist's graduation from college on Sunday, which will include spending several hours with My Father. My Father has never been to the U.C. Berkeley campus. I wouldn't want to deprive him of the experience. I'm curious to see if The Scientist will be moved by the ceremony. Nothing seems to phase him. But then again, he says the key note speaker will be some professor from MIT, I can assure you that won't phase me. However, you just never know.

My writing has suffered somewhat this week. It's feeling a little lukewarm to me. Last night I thought I felt a poem coming on, something is brewing. Nothing to fret about, inspiration is just around the corner ... I feel it. Actually, I may be suffering from thought overload, happens occasionally. I've been jotting down my thoughts all week in my notebook ... Lots and lots of thoughts. I've been reading a book on writing and it's been successful in producing a lot of thinking, but not much writing. It's a lull, not a block. I don't do anything about lulls, just let them play themselves out.

I bought the new CD by Stevie Nicks,
Trouble In Shangri-La. It took me three full go throughs to realize that I really do like it. It has a Sheryl Crowe feel to it and also reminds me of Tracy Chapman. In fact, I had to listen to the entire Tracy Chapman CD too, Telling Stories (by the way, this is a great CD for writers). I even found a Stevie Nicks website, www.nicksfix.com.  From checking the site out, she appears to be well loved. Isn't that weird, since she seems to have tried to kill herself with drugs. Her songs seem a bit strange and forlorn too, all about lost love. You wonder if she has ever tried working on her self-esteem? The great thing about her though, is that she is definitely keeping the hippie thing alive. At 53, she hasn't out-grown it yet ... Very cool! I have put Fleetwood Mac's Ruomors on my Wish List.

And speaking of cool ... I found something. Decluttering Find Of The Week:  My 1980 audio tape of Blondie,
Autoamerican. I saw Blondie on TV not too long ago, probably one of the Behind The Music things. She hasn't aged well. It was followed by a short video of a current performance she did. No, she hasn't aged well. I think she's lost it. But, Autoamerican is great! There's just about every type of music you could ever want on it, all sung in a very Blondie way. Who can ever forget Rapture ... The man from mars, he shoots you dead and eats your head.

So this week comes to another end. All the busyness has made it fly by. I'm ready for a little relaxing before the graduation. Actually, I'm taking the night of the graduation off from work. Going to Berkeley will be considered vacation, no Traveler's Checks needed. And next week. I will be having another change in schedule. There's always a need for flexibility here.

Damn, I can't get that song out of my mind now. The man from mars stopped eating cars and eating bars and now he only eats guitars ...
