Dream A Little Dream ...
08/08/01 - I just found out what the Wednesday entertainment is ... Peace and quiet!!! It's one of those wonderful days, you wake up and find out that the violin lesson has been canceled and the boys have been invited to go to the baseball game and you've got nothing to do with yourself but enjoy ... I can handle that.

It really was one of those days ... nothing pending, no promises to keep. I decided to go to the fabric store. I really badly needed to replace the curtain in the main bathroom. It was so old that I was afraid it would disintegrate if I tried to wash it. I was only going to need a couple of yards of fabric, so off I went. My local fabric store is actually kind of a dump. It's junky. But, the prices are reasonable and if you look carefully, you can find some pretty interesting stuff ... Like music notes, black on white, perfect for a new cover for my piano bench. I found the curtain fabric at $1.89 a yard. I found a couple of other fabrics that I thought might make pretty pillow covers. Gees, I was having some Martha (Stewart) moments in that shop. Next I went to the book store, just to look around. I have plenty of books right now. I'd be gluttonous if I got more. I just thought I'd take a look around. I did find a couple of greeting cards, something a little different. Hmmm, I can't help it. I have to show you this one:

That's the front ---->>>

Inside it says:                                     Don't Drink & Dress

I'm planning to send it to Mon Pere. He's had a rough week, two funerals. It happens to eighty year old guys. I'm sorry.

That was the extent of my shopping excursion, but I couldn't resist ending it without getting some sort of take-out for dinner. I decided I'd try the fish & chips place that has been in town longer than I have (16 years). I'd never been. I've been craving fish and chips ever since I read an article in the SF Chronicle about F&C places. They mentioned this joint that I used to go to 30 years ago ... Old Chelsea. It's a take out place. They actually wrap your dinner up in newspaper. They had some great vinegar there, and the servings were hot and generous. I lived right around the corner on Hyde and Geary. I usually took the fish home to eat, but there was this pub next door and sometimes I would eat the fish there and watch the dart games. Anyway, my local F&S place is nothing close to that one. But, it was passing. I'd try it again, maybe.

I had a great evening entertaining myself. It's good to know that I can be good company.
