| "We often discover what will do, by finding out what will not do; and probably he who never made a mistake never made a discovery." ~Samuel Smiles |
08/15/01 - Here's a quote that really hits the spot, my spot anyway. T.R.: "Well, it's about time we came to terms with the paradoxical nature of the universe. The great struggle in life is not between good and evil, which are both relative terms, but between the desire for certainty and the desire for freedom. Freedom and certainty cannot equally coexist. The more you have of one, the less you have of the other. And certainty is merely an illusionary product of fear." (From a Tom Robbins interview by Robert Scheer and Joseph Roberts) So, if we are going to think about thoughts, how about the thought that most of us always want more, there's always something more to be gotten, do it more, add more, make more ... Whatever. Then indeed, it becomes very frustrating when "the more" is not easily gained. In fact, I think most people stop trying at the frustration. What then is to be gained by putting in effort? How about creativity, how about growth, how about a little bit of that desire for freedom? I'm choosing to continue to stay on the path, the one that takes a little effort, a little creativity ...
