The Dreamville Pekingese
was founded in 1970 when as a first year college student, I saw my first
Pekingese, owned by a friend. She was a small fawn bitch who did not take
kindly to strangers and promptly tried to bite me. This little creature
fascinated me no end and I begged my friend to see me a puppy when she
whelped a litter. Thus, I acquired my first Pekingese who I named Cybele.
Being a rank novice, I read all the materials I could find on Pekingese, which was not much at that time. Cybele lived to be only two years old because of whelping complications. I then resolved to breed better Pekingese and saw all the dogs in the Philippines. These were mainly Australian in origin and of diverse bloodlines. I then acquired a fawn brindle bitch which produced my first Philippine Champion, Dreamville Cougat. Medical schooling meant that I would have to tone down my breeding activities and after that, my wife, CHristine and I left for the United States to pursue further training in Pathology, upon which all breeding activities stopped for six years. Before returning to the Philippines in 1987, we bought two bitches from the Fourwinds kennel, which were to be the nucleus of a new kennel. Breeding took first priority although showing was not neglected. One of the two bitches subsequently gained her title and was to produce Philippine Champion Dreamville Just a Fantasy, a multiple group best Philippine bred in Show winner. With additional importatations from the renowned St. Aubrey-Elsdon, Shiarita and Morningstar kennels, Dreamville Pekingese became the leading kennel of Pekingese in the Philippines with homebred dogs winning over English and American imports, some of whom were champions. In 1996, Dreamville Pekingese was adjudged Breeder of the Year all Breeds by the Philippine Canine Club. Venturing into the American arena, Philippine Champion Indiscreet at Dreamville was successfully campaigned to her American title in partnership with Patricia Metzger of the famed Muhlin Pekingese. this bitch is a third generation homebred by Philippine Champion St. Aubrey Casanova of Elsdon, multiple group winner and number 7 top dog all breeds in the Philippines in 1992. She has produced an American champion, Muhlin Colby of Dreamville. Philippine Champion Dreamville Don Quixote, a fourth generation homebred, was the third Dreamville Pekingese to finish his American title, this time in partnership with Marilyn (Revelry Pekingese). One of the high poionts of the kennel was in Febrary 1997 when I flew all the way to New York for the Westminster weekend with Dreamville Sun Goddess, a 7 month old third generation homebred and half-sister to Don Quixote, both by Philippine Champion Dreamville Dark Obsession. She was shown the next day after arrival from an 18 hour trip from the Philippines and subsequently, she took Best in Sweepstakes at the (cont to next column) - |

Jersey and Pekingese Club of America under breeder judges, Irene
Reasons and Jason Ulmer respectively. In the Pekingese Club of America
Championship show judged by Mr. Michael Hill, the noted Canadian breeder,
Sun Goddess took winners Bitch, Best of Winners and Best Puppy in Show,
asingular honor for a very young puppy, and all the more significant because
she is the first Pekingese bred in the Far East to have achieved these
honors.
Sun Goddess gained her title in short order, winning Best of Opposite Sex in two specialty shows, again in partnership with Patricia Metzger. She is the product of discriminate breeding, combining the best of English, Canadian and American bloodlines, her sire being the beautiful black imported dam, Philippine Champion Dreamville Dark Obsession, of predominatly Morningstar breeding. Her dam is by Philippine Champion Shiarita London Bobby out of a double Ch St. Aubrey of Mayfly granddaughter, Philippine Champion Dreamville Cover Girl. Dreamville Pekingese has also exported Dreamville Miss Saigon to the Hope's kennel in America where she produced three American champions for Mrs. Hope Burghardt. Currently, the star in the home kennel is Pilippine Champion Sweet Obsession, a glamorous black and half-brother to Sun Goddess, who is a multiple group and Best Philippine Bred in Show winner. He took Reserve Best in Show recently to become number six all breeds in the first half of the year. The next promising dog is Philippine Champion Dreamville Quicksilver, a son of American and Philippine Champion Morningstar Dragonhart, who is proving to be a high caliber stud dog. Dreamville Pekingese at this point, bred more
than 40 Philippine Champions and 6 american Champions. With the present
gene pool, it is expected that this winning trend will continue into the
future. We are truly indebted to Messrs. Nigel Aubrey-Jones and R. William
Taylor (St. Aubrey-Elsdon, Paul and Liz Stannard (Shiarita), Patricia Metzger
(Muhlin), Marilyn and John Jewell (Revelry) and Messrs. Anthony Rosato
and John French (Morningstar), without whose help we could not have reached
this far.
