These are samples of some of the custom wallpapers created to date. Some of them are ready for reprinting as actual photos and could supplement or replace the real thing. They were all created from supplied photographs and have been digitally doctored. They consist of both collages and montages of the primary image or a part of it and then merged with different backgrounds or enhancements. Some are the result of marrying 2 or more photos to create an impossible or surrealistic image.

The samples are listed in chronological age and the first six samples were done with software that was positively prehistoric. In spite of that, even they did not come off too badly. Starting with Sample #7, I was using a new scanner, Much more sophisticated software, and my technique was vastly improved, or so I would like to think. The last part of the previous statement is my opinion and may be somewhat biased. You, the reader/viewer, are in the best position to say for sure.

They include someones "Sydney", someones GTO, various daughters, and a family outing with the photographer inserted into the picture he was shooting. I also have a digitally reworked version of a turn of the century photo that had been manually modified by someone at or about the turn of the century. One shows a partial photo with the photographers 'Proof Mark' obscuring the photo. And a series of photos/wallpapers created by the marriage of 2 or more photos.

All samples are included with the owners permission and blessing, and I thank them for the opportunity to display them to the world. Some have indicated that they would prefer not to have full sized images available, and this request has been honoured. Certain others requested anonymity and these images have been rendered accordingly. Where there are no larger pictures, it is considered that the thumbnails are large enough to see what was done.

Following the samples will be links to other sample pages and they will be categorized. Note that I said, will be. That means that at the moment they don't all exist.
If the link image says "Not Ready", then trust me. It means its ''NOT READY''. The link may activate the correct page, but there won't be much on it.

See the 'Before' and 'Afters' of how these photos were modified and what was done.

Photo - Sydney before
Collage - Sydney after
"Sydney after" is comprised of the photo (just Sydney) superimposed over a background created by the marriage of 5 separate images. Sydneys color had to be corrected as the scan lost some of the color. Sydney was also offered in 2 other treatments (not shown).

GTO before
montage - GTO after
The GTO also needed the color corrected to compensate for a poor scan. The GTO and part of the scenery was superimposed over a more picturesque background creating a montage.
The GTO was also offered in 2 other treatments, also not shown. One of the alternate treatments was to frame the GTO in an emulated carved marble frame.

collage - Final Product
Final Product - alx6001.jpg
Two photos were used in this composite treatment to create a collage. The photos needed minor adjustments to color. They were both resized to create the same focal distance approximately. The resized images were merged with a custom carved marble frame.

Collage version 2
The original photos are not included with this group. I had a number of scans available and the finished products were collages of these images.
The pic on the left was a Windows 3.1 graphic and the one on the right is designed for Windows 95/98/etc. It allows room for the task bar and open space on the left for a single row of icons so that they don't encroach on the image.

montage - add spouse
The pic on left is a family shot, but is missing the spouse because he was taking the picture. The pic on the right is a composite of the left side, and another group photo that did show the husband. Both original scans had to be color balanced to one another, (the husband shot was in shadow and dark), and resized to compensate for different focal distances.

Photo collage - Family Before
Family Before
montage - Family After
Family After
The pic on left is a family shot, circa 1892. Smaller than actual.
The history of the photo is that they (someone) wanted a family portrait of all 11 children. On the day the photo was taken one of the sons was out west and not available. And one of the daughters had died 3 weeks BEFORE the photo was shot.
If you look closely, you can see how someone had doctored the original photo. The 'original' on the left is actually a collage of three photos. The version on the right, is my graphically doctored montage correcting some of the errors in the original.
I am unable to get permission from anybody in the photo to display these images, but my wife said it's OK.

photo - Photographer Shot before
montage - Surrealistic Rework after
This custom wallpaper was created by systematically removing all the background pixels that were not required from the original photo. The remainder was just the family group as posed on and around the bench. This image was then resized, cropped, and superimposed over a series of other photographs.
The girl who requested the wallpaper had casually mentioned that the photo was posed and that there weren't any trees. This is just one of 13 variants of this same theme, all over different backgrounds. The backgrounds selected daytime and nighttime, mountains, water, palm trees, lush tropical vegetation etc.
In addition to these, I did one normal but cropped for the correct ratio, one in sepia tones for an antique look, and some variants where the faces only were superimposed over textured backgrounds, some framed and some not.
Eighth Sample . . . . . Back to MiniPix . . . . . Back to Top

photo - Photographer Shot before
montage - Surrealistic Rework after
Same family, same description and process. This is a second variant of the 13 mentioned.
There were also a series of collages done, but not shown.

Professional Photographer Shot before
Airbrushed Rework after
This custom wallpaper was created by airbrushing the photographers proof marks out. In the sample, the phone number was deliberately destroyed, but it was also very prominent in the original image.
This series of images (7 in total) proved to be the most time consuming. Each photo had to have the pixels destroyed by the proof marking recreated in the correct color, hue, etc. In some cases, the proof mark was over the red background or a denim jacket worn by the model. These were the easiest fixes. The skin tones, white lingerie, and over the jewellry posed the greatest challenges.
Tenth Sample . . . . . Back to MiniPix . . . . . Back to Top

Professional Photographer Shot before
montage - Custom
This custom wallpaper was created by using 3 different photos in different poses, but all taken at the same time with the same background.
The final effect was a surrealistic photo of identically dressed triplets. Other variants were also done using different poses of the model in different locations on the rock cliff, and using 2 or more shots to make it appear as if twins or triplets were being photographed.
Eleventh Sample . . . . . Back to MiniPix . . . . . Back to Top

photo - Original before
montage - Custom after
This custom wallpaper was created by removing Q from the background (in actual fact, I removed the background from Q) and superimposed him over a different photo that contained a rainbow. He was superimposed at less than full transparency allowing the rainbow behind to show up as an overlay.
The final effect was a surrealistic image. The owner and friend of Q had mentioned in the previous week that Q was under the Rainbow Bridge. For those who are not aware of the signifigance behind this deliberate imagery, the Rainbow Bridge is a mythical place where all deceased animals or pets live. They stay there until their previous owner owner or friend arrives to join them. At that point in time they all cross the bridge together.
You may have noticed the references on my index page and on the felines page to my Rainbow Bridge page. If you search using any of the engines, you will find many pages, references, and some very beautiful and moving poetry and prose written by owners who miss that special bond.
Twelvth Sample . . . . . Back to MiniPix . . . . . Back to Top

photo - Original before
montage - Custom after
This custom wallpaper was created by removing one principal from the photo, and then juxtaposing her in a different location so that the resulting picture had a correct wallpaper ratio. At the same time, the reins were removed for a more casual look.
Other variations on this theme removed the poles on the ground, and one was a sepia toned monochromatic to emulate an old picture.
Thirteenth Sample . . . . . Back to MiniPix . . . . . Back to Top

photo - Original 5x7 before
Q 5x7 Portrait
montage - Custom after
Q Juxtaposed in a field of flowers
This custom wallpaper was created by removing the background from Q, resizing as necessary, mirroring, and replacing the background with this farm field filled with yellow flowers and a clear blue sky.
Other variations on this theme used Fall scenes, different fields, in a forest, on a country road with sunbeams thru mist, etc.
Fourteenth Sample . . . . . Back to MiniPix . . . . . Back to Top

photo - Original 5x7 before
Q 5x7 Portrait
montage - Custom after
Q at the Rainbow Bridge
This custom wallpaper is a surreal variant on the Rainbow Bridge theme.
Other variations on this theme positioned Q in different locations and sizes, some were masked, partial transparency, and some ghostlike. This photo of Q was also superimposed over various Rainbow shots.
