My Life is a Broken Metaphor
My life is like a flower...no,
My life is like a river...no!
I know!
My life is a broken metaphor,
a shattered similie.
I've been looking for words to express it--
after all, thats what I do,
the stock-in-trade of poetry:
metaphor, similie,
personification, rhyme.
But they're all broken.
Fitting, really.
I'm broken too.
Just a broken metaphor of a life
and the words don't fit anymore.
How can you compare
a singularly personal experience
to a summer's day?
or anything, really?
To hell with the metaphors!
Lets use plain speech
for painful times--
at some point,
everyone's life
is a broken metaphor.
