The third generation dray was created by Dregoth, using knowledge gained from the future with his Time Wand. In his plan for Athas, the city-states of the surface will each be ruled by a third generation dray-king.

Third generation dray appear just like normal dray, except they are leaner and stronger and their claws are longer and sharper. A great set of taloned wings sprout from their backs, and the third gen. dray may use these to fly. Third generation dray speak the draytongue of New Giustenal.

Combat: The third generation dray is a wickedly intelligent and dangerous opponent in combat. It prefers to fight in the air, using psionics like kinetic control and energy containment to escape from damage. If it faces a single opponent, it uses more leisurely and sadistic attacks like molecular agitation and control body.

The third gen. dray also makes use of some powerful physical attacks. While fighting on the ground they use a claw/claw/bite combination. All three attacks cause 1d6 damage, but the dray recieves a +8 on claw attacks due to its Strength score of 20. It is even more deadly in the air: here the third gen. dray can use its claws in a rake, striking four times for 1d6+8 damage each. It may also stab with the poisonous stinger on its tail, causing 1d4 damage and killing that character in 1d6 rounds unless he makes a save vs poison. Furthermore, these attacks recieve charging bonuses if the dray may swoop down from 60 feet or more.

Because it was created from potent defiler magic, the third generation dray is slightly magic resistant. It may also cast spells, defiling the surrounding plant life to do so. Third generation dray can cast the following spells at 10th level of ability, once per round, at will: magic missile, sleep, charm person, mirror image, fireball (1/day), lightning bolt (1/day). They also recieve the spells of a 16th level templar, given to them by their Dread King Dregoth.

Habitat/Society: The third generation dray were only created within recent memory. As such, they have little society to speak of amongst themselves.

The second generation dray have noticed a strange change in their society due to the introduction of these creatures, however. Once they were Dregoth’s favourites, preferred over the first generation dray, and he promised the world to them. Now the Dread King seems to favour his third generation creations, treating them better than the second gen. nobles of New Giustenal. Needless to say this makes the second generation dray unhappy. If they knew of Dregoth’s plan to establish these creatures as rulers after the Coruscation then they would be even less pleased.

Ecology: Exactly how Dregoth created these creatures remains a mystery. Some of his templars believe he simply revamped the dray transformation process, using the nightmare dray as a template. The truth is much more bizarre. Using the Time Wand, Dregoth delved into a future where he had come to rule Athas. He found the third generation dray ruling the city-states of the surface. Somehow, Dregoth learned how to replicate these perfect creatures in the present as well.

Fortunately, it seems that the third generation transformation process is very taxing on the Dread King. Subsequently, he has made very few of these creatures.
