Cross country skiing 2000

Well, since we had tried the fun stuff (letting gravity do its thing and getting the lifts to take us back to the tops of the runs), we decided to try the more adventurous alternative. We were joined by three others from work; Holly who had never skiied before, and who took all these photos, Steve, who had tried both types of skiing before, and this really showed, and Steph (who was with us the last time we camped in the snow), who is from Canada, and has done a fair amount of this sort of thing.

The first night we camped, this is us surveying the camp site. Once you have picked your spot, you have to compact the snow under your tent, otherwise you sink and your pegs don't hold that well (even snow pegs!) Being inexperienced the following is my attempt at the job...

And this is how the Canadian's do it...

That night was very cold and none of us slept that well, but once the sun came up our spirits returned and we pushed on.

The next night we stayed in one of the huts that are dotted around the national park. This one is White's River Hut. It had a huge fireplace and a pot bellied stove and all were much more comfortable.

Finally here are some pictures of the cast...
