Finding Literature | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Improving your speech | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Finding literature that fits your wants and desires can prove difficult. If you are in a category where you write your speech of course this step will not appy to you. The three types of literature genres are: 1) Plays 2) Poetry 3) Prose (novels, short stories, memoirs, etc.) Any literature you do find suitable you must make sure that it either has an ISBN # or a Library of Congress number. Without it, you cannot perform it in high school meets. - Make sure the piece has a universal theme (something your audience can relate to). Examples: Fear, love, loss, change, loneliness, etc. For H.I.- does it say something? - Look for the authors unique, individual approach used to drive the theme. Examples: Death, sibling rivalry, disease, suicide, youth issues, stress, etc. - Determine what you can bring to the script. Think about your unique talents and experiences that can bring the script to life. Do you look the part? - Make sure it has meaning. Why is the audience better off after watching your performance? Will the audience think differently because of it? |
