1. One paragraph summary of the key idea summarizing the major idea of the section.

The main idea in this section was challenges to our Faith in the areas of atheism, science, and in our contemporary world. Atheism attacks our belief in God by challenging if there is even a God. There are two types of atheists: positive atheists and practical atheists. Positive atheists make a cinscious decision that God does not exist while practical atheists claim to believe in God but do not live their lives as if there is. Science attacks our Faith by looking to explain all things with reason and from a viewpoint devoid of God. In our world today, we face attacks from dehumanization, moral relativism, and materialism. Our society attempts to change our belief structure towards what the world says is good and right, not what we believe is good and right.

2. List and explain three of the most important ideas you want to remember from this section.

Dehumanization- In The Merchants of Cool the people explained how in our society we have devalued the human life and body to an amazing low. This is mainly through the media where images of sex and perfection are sold to us that are unrealistic and morally wrong. Dehumanization takes a person and makes them into an object for pleasure or to simply sell something. It is morally wrong, but is so tempting to the flesh that it works and will continue to work in our society.

Nietzsche's idea of the meaning of life- Philospher Friedrich Nietsche believed that everyone has different meanings in life and therefore different purposes. This makes sense in the fact that everyone has different talents and therefore ahould ahve different purposes.

The current Church/Science relationship- To many people it is difficult to understand that the Church and science do not disagree, but are complementary. In a relationship that has been formed ove hundreds of years and is the current debate in many circles, it is important to realize that science explains when and how while the Church explains who and what in history and today.

3. One good image of that remind me of key ideas.

Thanks to gilroydispatch.com for the image.

This black hole reminds me of atheism, a complete lack of matter and a complete lack of God.

4. One good question you should keep with your to ponder.

Am I living my life according to my values and beliefs or am I being influenced by the values of society?

5. What should I try to do to make me a better person, a more faithful person, from this study?

I really need to step back and see where I am as far as my beliefs about life, humans, morals, and especially God. I have never taken the time to step back and ask myself questions about these things; I have basically accepted what I was told in school and religion and tried to live according to those values. Those are not bad values, but if I am truly to become a man of Faith, I need to examine what I believe and really think about if I agree with what I have been told or with other ideas in the world. After this examination, the ideas and beliefs I am left with should be my core and I should apply these to my life.
