The Construction Worker is meant to be the second piece of the triptych of heroes. Watching the news in the days after the events of September 11th, one of the stories that stuck with me most was about New York City steel workers. Many steel workers came together by nightfall of September 11th. They were volunteering to go into the rubble and help take apart the parts of the building that were still together and dig through the wreckage. They said, "We built 'em, we'll take 'em apart." They waited outside "ground zero" for hours before they were let into the dangerous area. It always struck me that these are men that you usually imagine as hard and uncaring. They work for high hourly pays and still complain that it isn't enough. But that night, they were willing to work... to help... for hours on end for nothing.
