For this state, I put an aquatint ground on the plate. Aquatint is a technique used to give tone to the plate. The plate is dusted with a rosin substance which is melted into tiny drops of acid resistant material. The plate is then bitten in the acid. When printed, the ink is forced into the small crevases between the rosin drops. The final look is a dot-pattern which can create different ranges of tone...
