My Family

My mom separated from my dad and went back to Korea when I was 3 years old. So my two younger brothers and I grew up with our dad's relatives on Indian reservations and can only identify as being Native. After living with my dad's relatives and in various foster homes, my brothers and I moved in 1986 to Wapato, WA to stay with our aunt.

Unfortunately, I don't know anything about my Korean cultural heritage, even though I look more Asian than Native.

Indian Naming Ceremony: March 27, 2004
Wapato, WA @ my uncle Alvin's house

Within the Yakama and Warm Springs tribes it is important to have Indian names, so that the "Creator" and other Indians will recognize you in the after life. My uncle Alvin came up with the names for my brothers (Joe and Allen), cousins (Watkins and Jasper) and me.
