London

Germaine and I traveled to London twice and a took a few pictures.
The first set of pictures are from the Spring 1999 trip, in which we both had the flu and didn't enjoy our trip too much.
The second set of pictures are from our recent trip (Jan. 2002), in which we visited places outside of London.

London Trip with Germaine

My husband Germaine and I went to London during Spring break 1999 for a week. We ended up seeing the usual sights around London: Picadilly Circus, Soho, Tower of London, Westminster Abbey,  Madam Tussard's Wax Museum, Shakespeare's Globe Theater, Hyde Park, and some other famous sites.

The best way to fly to London is by taking "Virgin Atlantic Airlines."  They have the best service. They gave us little packets for grooming (comb, toothbrush, toothpaste, socks).  Each seat had a tv screen to play nintendo games and watch a wide selection of  movies.  They had the best airplane food I've ever had!!!!

I was rather dissapointed at seeing how "Americanized" London is.  They had the major fast food chains on almost every block - McDonalds, KFC, Burger King, Subway. London was like an expensive version of an older America.

I did love London's public transportation.  We had no problems navigating the city taking the "tube" and being careful to "mind the gap".

London Trip with Germaine

It's funny how one's perspective of a place changes after a few years.  We went back to London for a week vacation in January and had a blast.  This time we had more favorable conditions for our trip.
First of all, we weren't sick, so we got to see London with good health.  Second, we decided to not do much of the touristy stuff in the city and did some daytrips.  We went to Bath (place of the famous Roman Baths believed to have healing powers), Stratford-Upon-Avon (Shakespeare's birthplace), and Greenwich (south London).  Third, we had a vacation package that included the hotel, so we didn't have to waste much time looking for a place to stay every few days in London.
