Danielle: Can She & Should She Win

The Viewers Voice: The Irony of Danielle

Excerpt from letter by Sandra Polley (BB3Online.com) -- Perception is Everything

Danielle, for instance, projects on Roddy all of her own faults.  Danielle has become the most “devilish, maniacal, despicable, untrustworthy” person on the show.  She clearly wants to win whatever costs and when she saw that she could not do it with honey she used vinegar.  She has manipulated people and events. She has even chosen to malign peoples character undeservedly.  She has said hateful comments about all the evicted houseguests and she has been President of the “Roddy is the Devil” smear campaign for weeks.  What compounds these acts is the fact that she knowingly has been able to control naďve and weaker mind players like Jason, Lisa and Amy to do her bidding.  On the Internet many find her behavior despicable- and when asked or polled who they do not want to win the game it is overwhelming Danielle's name that comes up...perception is everything.

Jason and Lisa have some accountability for generally being two faced and judging other for acts they themselves committed. Yet, I do not feel that they would have been nearly as bad were it not for Danielle’s influence and lies. They do not seem particularly aware of her manipulations and in my opinion they should be. Neither one has played very well but has just stayed under the radar and then thrown in with Danielle when they should have banded together against her. I am sure that they are very nice people but I think that they are too smart to have been so taken in by Danielle and ultimately who you choose to ally yourself with and take advice from says something about you because...perception is everything.

Whether or not Danielle wins this game is immaterial at this point. Why?, Because even if she does win it will be at too heavy a price.  $500k is not worth all the damage she has done to her credibility. She basically quit her job to be on the show. It is inevitable that she will have a hard time finding work I know that I would not hire her for a job. Her friends I am sure had a different perception of her than what she revealed on the show I know after what I saw I could never count her as a trusted friend.  She speaks often and loudly of being a mom and a role model for her girls, quite frankly I would not be proud to call her mom. I know I would feel that my mother placing oaths based on untruths and doing so on my life would not go down easily for me.   Whether you want to be or not when you are on TV your actions convey a message and rather than become a positive role model what she has taught her children is that it is ok, to lie, cheat, manipulate, backstab and ultimately steal. I believe Danielle's dad, the preacher, could tell her that “whatever you have to do… the ends justify the means” and praying for advancement in a game to the detriment of others is not very Christian behavior. Danielle does not deserve to win anything other than a chance to review how far she would lower herself and her principles to get $500k. Perception is everything.

Excerpt from an Interview with Roddy on Entertainment Weekly

What was your strategy? I know that being good or attempting to be good is the best I can do. I can do that better than lie, so why not go in with your A game? I did and I got voted out. What's funny is I got voted out for the thing I was not doing. There's definitely going to be a bit of ''Oh, my God, I can't believe the kid was so nice'' when somebody was calling me the devil.

How'd you react when you learned that Danielle was calling you the devil in the diary room? One person who I stuck up for an unbelievable amount was Danielle, and for her to go back there and call me the devil, it was just hurtful. I understand why she did it, but I can't explain how awful I felt about that. No matter what happens, one day she's gonna have to say, ''I called a really good man the devil for no reason.'' Did I do something that I deserved to be called the devil? Did I lie about something? Did I act like a jerk? Not one bit. ''Kindness'' and ''compassion'' aren't accurate words to describe Lucifer.

Danielle claims you lied about your deal with her. When I was head of household, I didn't know Dani very well and I was going to put her on the block. We made a deal: If I keep you off the block, you owe me one when you become HOH. She said, ''Fine, my word is gold.'' For her to say in the diary room that she never made that [promise], well, she can't erase that.

The Irony

Dani talks about how Colby from Survivor 2 was stupid for taking Tina to the finals instead of Keith, just because he hated Keith and couldn't stand giving him even a chance to win. Therefore he lost the game to Tina. (Makes you wonder what she will do to Jason, if it comes to that.)

Dani on another child

Dani told the houseguests that if she doesn't win the money, she won't be able to afford to have another child.  Again, she is trying to win their sympathies.

Dani's Bedtime Story

After Dani was telling Lisa and Amy about how she was calling Roddy 'The Devil'. Amy and Lisa were laughing. Dani says that her girls will probably be scared of Roddy when they see him. Amy said Danielle will tell ghost stories to her grandchildren. And that give Dani an idea. She does a granny voice and tells a bedtime story.

"One night in the year 2002. Granny went away for the summer. I was locked in the house with eleven other people. What made it more difficult... the devil was part of them. The only thing is that granny didn't know who was the devil. But then the devil came one day. In front of the devil's gift--playing cards. And as we played the card, the devil looked me in my eye. And he said 'Dee, I don't know were I stand with you?' Right there. That is where the devil wanted my soul. He wanted my word. Listen children, your word is your gold. Never give it, especially to the devil. But I asked the spirit of god to come upon me. And I said Lord give me the wisdom and discernment you gave King Solomon. And I saw right through that devil and got his number. And for 30 days and 30 nights I prayed. I even fasted on peanut butter on some days. To have a clearer conscious, just so I knew what he was up to. Now the devil had other demons in the house. Some were really stinky. Some were really smelled bad. Some had bad feet. Some were beautiful. But you knew who they were--and they tried to tempt you! But you had to stay strong and you had to hook at people who were light and beautiful. They were angels. And then there was a war between good and evil in the house. And we had to decide to be strong. And the devil oh he was gooood. But the way you get to the devil is you take out the demons. One at a time.

So one by one. The smelly one, the pretty one, and the one with feet. Ah the one with feet. The feet that would make scraping noises as walked across the carpet floor. And he was a trip because this demon had a tickle in his throat and would cough.(makes gross cough) You knew that demon was coming but you didn't know what to do. So, granny and the group of other angels, we plotted and worked together as a team and took one demon at a time. One by one.

But the biggest one, was Satan himself. Now as we sat there and said this was the time that we could get rid of the devil. One of the angels, a golden angel with a voice that was so beautiful went to the devil like a moth to a flame. And the devil almost had her. But granny and the other angels, we prayed. And we asked 'Dear God, let her see the Devil.' Because unbeknownst to you little boys and girls, the devil is a very good looking man. He had a six pack. You don't know what that is but you will know in due time. He was very charismatic, he spoke words. Words that will put you to sleep. Where you say like 'I want to be your friend. I want to do everything for you. I don't want to leave the house. But I will leave the house for you.' He was the Devil. So we prayed for the little angel with golden hair. And finally she saw it. But of course good natured as she was she felt hurt.for the devil. Because she and she alone had a very good soul. So the obstacle for the little angel was should she not try to save the devil? Or should she give it up and get rid of evil forever out of the house. So we prayed but we didn't say anything to the little angel. Finally one night when she is talking to the devil. Enticed by his charisma, and mesmerized by his grace. She saw his horns grow right in front of her. And his slit tongue slink out of his mouth. And as his tongue grew. She saw HIM and she was horrified. But although she saw the devil the compassion in her heart was still there. Could the angel be strong enough to get rid of the devil? All the other angels waited to see. But we didn't know what was to happen. But the day came when the quivering little angel stood up. She was very scared. But we wondered if she could be strong enough? And she looked at the devil--and then she looked away. And she made that decision not to save him because she knew--The Devil can never be Saved. And as a united front we got together and the angel we embraced, her wing was broken, but we helped her fix it. We embraced her and she weeped with a compassionate heart. And the devil walked out the door. And we all sat there with anger, but we reminded ourselves that we are all good people and we're here to enjoy this house that is ours. And as we grinned and laughed. And as the angel with the broken wing and big heart mended herself together and became herself again. She realized that with love, friends that the devil must be expelled. And we enjoyed the rest of the summer with glee. Beca
use the devil was out of the house. The End."

Post Script to Dani's Devil Story

And in the end, when all was said and done the truth was really known. The real devil disguised in sheep’s clothing and the heart as cold and hard as marble stone stayed behind for a while. Her lies to tell and deals to make; her evil to do where ever she would go. Like a spider her web she did weave. She did her best to create hate and suspicion toward those who had left the house and even those who stayed behind. Making deals with everyone to try to make it to the end. It’s you and me she would say, to each and every one; we’ll make to the end. Gotcha back covered she would say. These lies she told to influence the vote. These things she had done from the beginning, when all these people she first had met. When she first met the one she calls the devil, with him she tried to make a deal and he refused. He said he wasn’t ready to make such a commitment. So she made a deal with one of god’s angel who is always honest and true. And little did he know that all the while he was protecting her, she made up stories and gave false witness to all who would listen. This angel couldn’t see the devil for who she truly was. A young and trusting heart he had, and true to his word he stayed and did her bidding. With her forked tongue the lies and hate she spread until the others left behind joined in and sold their souls. She and her one true disciple told so many untrue stories about the others they began to believe them too. For those in the house, for those who had left and for all of the world to see she did her nasty deeds. All this she did in the name of the lord, praying her selfish, greedy prayers, while her young children and all her family bore witness. In the end will she be a winner? She may get some money but she will always be a poor pathetic loser. So little children these words I say to you. It’s true your word is golden and you should always stick true, but you will need to search somewhere else for some other’s example to follow.

The Inevitable Ending… Or Is It? (by Jeffrey D. Sadow, Associate Professor at Louisiana State University - Reality News Online)

There's a lot of important political science business to attend to, so my first thought when I saw Danielle win Head of Household was to turn off Big Brother 3 for the next couple of weeks. Why waste my time on seeing Jason's inevitable win?

It's really pretty simple: Danielle, as she did, puts up Amy and Lisa for eviction, preserving her partner Jason and giving him the decision to evict. He (they?) will pick Lisa to go because she is a far bigger threat than Amy against either of them in a jury vote. Right now, Amy probably would get only Marcellas' vote, maybe Josh's, at most Roddy's additionally, against the weakest of the other three in a jury vote (Danielle, against whom some hold residual resentment for her adroit playing). Lisa likely secures a win versus Danielle, and maybe against Jason.

But that is idle speculation; Lisa will go. In the Danielle/Jason dream scenario, one of them wins the next HoH and gives Amy the boot. If not, Amy gives one of them the boot. That latter victim likely is Danielle because Amy thinks Jason is so sweet and shows signs that she too is turned off by Danielle's style.

Danielle is an unlikely winner against Jason because she has been too clever by half. She wanted to use others to do the "dirty work" and largely has succeeded. But at the same time she wanted to disguise the fact to appear nicer, as nice as nice guy Jason does. And she is nice, particularly in loyalty to Jason - too nice to do her own dirty work in regards to him. This will cost her because while players of this type of game (like in Survivor, and with other such games where contestants eject others from the game with the finalists facing their victims) respect a player who moves nimbly (because they are recognized as meritorious and skilled competitors), Danielle takes pains to appear benign to them but gloats to the rest of the world. These people lose final votes unless they face someone seen as totally meritless and duplicitous in their abilities to make it to the finals (for Survivor: Marquesas watchers, think Vecepia vs. Neleh). Jason should avoid this fate vs. Danielle because he is seen as a nice guy who employed a nice guy strategy. Ultimately, one could argue he took advantage of Danielle's loyalty to make her appear as the heavy. This strategy will appear valid enough to the jury for them to consider him deserving. At least Marcellas will oppose him, but perhaps nobody else, in a final with Danielle.

So, maybe it's worth watching to see whether Amy wins HoH and takes Jason to the finals, or Danielle or Jason wins HoH and takes the other to the finals. It all ends up the same; Jason wins. No other reason to watch

Unless... Jason or the next HoH acts in a totally unanticipated and seemingly out-of-character way. What if Jason boots out Amy, even with he and Danielle surely knowing that Lisa has a far better chance of beating them than does Amy? And then if Danielle wins HoH, what if she disregards her niceness and screws up enough courage to screw (figuratively, even though she does keep saying she's missing marital relations) Jason by sending him out, knowing she has a better chance against Lisa or Amy, especially Amy, than she ever has against Jason (who, for his part, must surely guess he'll win any vote)?

I guess that's why I'll have to keep watching, just in case.

Danielle: Can She & Should She Win?  (Excerpt from Reality News Online Article by Nina Perez-Bauschka)

The woman truly doesn't know when to keep her mouth shut. I'm sure it's easy to go into that room, the only private time you really get away from the other houseguests unless you're HoH, and just run your mouth like loose bowels. But is it smart? Heck, no. There's always the chance that what you're saying won't even make it on air, but why take that chance? You wanna talk mess? Wait 'til you get home with your $500,000 check and whine to your family about Gerry's hygiene or Amy's drinking. And you damn sure don't want to keep on about someone being Lucifer or being "nasty and needing Jesus." You want them out, but you also want their vote later. At least when Will did it, there was so much humor attached you had a hard time telling if he were serious. In the beginning, I don't think many viewers wanted Will to win the money, but we didn't want him gone either. He was the highlight of most of the shows. Dani may not be so lucky.

I think Danielle's insistence that her family needs this money like no other may have gotten on the other houseguests' nerves. They may all agree with Roddy in the end and say, "This isn't the Make-A-Wish foundation." Then again, she may get the pity vote for that.

Finally, if it's a tie and America's votes are the deciding ones, she can forget it. From message boards, live feed chat rooms and friends of mine, I'm getting the feeling that most BB3 viewers consider Ms. D the true Lucifer.

The Viewers Voice: The Irony of Danielle  (Excerpt from Reality News Online Article by Joshua Ryan)

Before Thursday's episode I was Danielle's biggest fan. I loved the way she was playing the game, she was so strong and she had it down. I liked how Jason was so sincere and looked up to Danielle. But after seeing two hours of trash talking Marcellas and making deals left and right and Jason's smug face popping those cow intestines and what-not into his mouth, I lost so much respect for them game-wise.

Danielle is asking a lot from her fellow game players. She figures that she's going to be in the finals with Jason and all of her fellow players are going to magically see that she was lying for the good of the game and vote for her to win the half million. Well, hate to break it to ya, babe, but you must be kidding! This group is so immature I highly doubt they're going to "forgive and forget." Why? Because unlike Will from last year, who admitted lying all along, she's seriously leading people on. Marcellas really trusted her, as did Gerry and Amy and Lisa and… She really said some nasty things that didn't need to be said. I don't mind her voting out her friends, but some of the side comments she made were just unnecessary. For all her big "eyes open, mouths shut" deal she really doesn't mind talking her mouth off in the Diary Room. Doesn't she know that the evicted players are going to SEE all of this? I'm pretty sure they wouldn't mind giving the money to Jason over her just because he seems less innocent (though I highly doubt he is). She could have won in a landslide had she just kept those nasty comments to herself. They weren't necessary. Remember, Nicole called Will the Devil, just as Danielle did to Roddy. Nicole sat in the same spot on the couch Danielle sat on during the same point in the game when both were grilled by Julie Chen if they wanted to win the HoH. She's in the same spot as Nicole was, and she might end up the same way, too. You never know, she and Jason could have fun in the hot tub, too…

But anyway, why is this all ironic? Because I really wanted Amy or Lisa to win the HoH. I wanted them to put up Jason and Danielle. Remember last year during the HoH competition at this point, when Will took Nicole's covers and she was pulling them back and took her hand off the key, thereby eliminating her from contention and ending the Nicole/Hardy power duo? But this year, the last power duo is safe.
