Dear Parents and Guardians:

I would like to welcome your child to my science class. I believe that as a team of
teacher, student and parent/guardian, we can achieve. Remember, we are working to
prepare your child to take his or her place in an ever changing world.
As a teacher, I stress participation. If your child needs extra help, please do not
hesitate to contact me. In addition, please fill in the information listed on the attached form.
I will gladly stay in contact with you to inform you of your childŐs progress in my class.
There are several things your child MUST have to successfully complete this class.
I require that students bring working BLUE or BLACK ink pens to class each day. Students
must have mechanical pencils each day.  Students also should have a SEPARATE
SCIENCE COMPOSITIONS NOTEBOOK. This should be for classroom notes in science
ONLY. They may use a folder with pockets or a section in a notebook with pockets for
handouts. Organization of notes helps students study better for classroom assessments.
Students should also  bring a metric ruler for drawing straight edges. They should have a
pack of graph paper and colored pencils, especially for practice graphing during the first
marking period. Please obtain a hole punch, as there are many handouts to add to the
notes. Since we will be using computers in class, students should bring a set of head
phones. Finally, it is important that your child bring to class a pair of SAFETY GLASSES.
We will use them for various labs if your child does not wish to share glasses with other
students . (They are disinfected before distributed).
There are several books that your child will be required to read over the course of the
year. Check with your child for the titles. You can get books from the public library, the
school library, or from online companies such as Barnes and Noble or Amazon.com.
Dade County requires that each student pay a $4.00 consumables fee. Please
remit this amount as soon as possible. This enables our school to purchase materials
needed to perform hands-on activities. Your child will bring a receipt for the funds once they
are paid.
If you wish to contact me, you may do so at my e-mail address:
DrGCDMS@dadeschools.net. You can also check my web site for updates in classroom
assignments at:

I am looking forward to making this a spectacular year for your child and yourself.
LetŐs all work together to let our children know that success is well within their reach.

Sincerely,
Dr. A. Gayden
