STUDY TIPS

S
- select a spot at home with minimum disruption and good light where you can concentrate on what you are doing.
T
- try a schedule that allows for breaks and test it for one week. Assess study habits, make necessary revisions, then stick to them.
U
- use your time wisely. Make study an important priority! Study when it's time to study; play when it's time to play.
D
- don't fall behind in studies. Follow up classroom work with study in the same subject that evening. Re-adjust study schedule as necessary.
Y
- you can expand interest in a subject through the use of supplementary materials. It is helpful to read material in advance of its presentation in the classroom. Ask the teacher for suggestions.

T
- take a close look at notekeeping. Good notes are important. Organize them immediately after class while the ideas are fresh. Review them that same evening.
I
- information is retained best, according to psychologists, if recalled within 24 hours. If recalled again within a week, the memory lingers. Simply put, it pays to review frequently
P
- prepare for tests and examinations in advance. Start with a review of notes; set up a study schedule; listen for teacher tips on what to cover; ask what type of exam is expected--essay, questions, true/false, multiple choice, or oral.
S
- study is an acquired skill. It is a combination of being a good listener in class, asking questions on material not understood, doing homework and assigned studies, and reviewing regularly.
