This
story started over 17 years ago when Emilio bought a 1970 Duster. He had the car before he had his wife, and after I get through with this story, you will feel that he will probably have the car after his wife. After a few years, Emilio decided to create a true 10 Second Pro Street Killer. After 5 years of cutting, welding, fabricating, painting, painting, and more painting, Emilio and friend Rich Yale had completed what you see below. The Duster which is referred to by peers as "The Power" is a 2-Time Pro Street Best Of Show Winner at the Mopar Atlantic Nationals in Englishtown, NJ. Emilio with his lightning fast shifting of the 5-speed, precision clutch stepping, sent "The Power" to an all-time best ET of 9.73 @ 139.26MPH at Epping on 10/15/2006 and now is consistenly in the 9.7's. No bottle, blower, or turbo here. This was done on the motor and stepping the clutch every shift. Remember we're talking about a 340 smallblock!! Below is the story of running "The number" when he finally got into the 9's.
,
In the winter of 1999, a new 3-link suspension took the place of the oringianl leaf spring set-up. This turned out to be the answer to send "The Power" into the "9's". 6 times @ 9.93 that day which was a huge deal at the time. The pictures below are a showcase of this extraordinary automobile. I hope you enjoy what you see. If you have any questions or comments, please mail me at drjay0@yahoo.com
He Did It!!!!
On
the weekend of May 27th, 2000
Emilio attended the Test and Tune session at Lebanon Valley
to run The
Power for the first time that year. The 3-link is in along
with some other
mods including new Hoosier Slicks and a fuel-cell.
Off the trailer
The Duster ran a 10.08 @135MPH.
2nd
pass was a
10.02
All of Emilio's fans
in attendance were waiting for "The Number".
3rd
pass, oops!! 10.21 @136.14.
Some serious bog at
the line.
What happened
you ask? It doesn't matter what happened!!
All you heard
was the announcer saying "if that car hooks up......"
"Here's
one of our favorite cars here at The Valley", said the
announcer.
"This guy
can really shift that car. Bangin' those gears, havin fun."
And then,
"Whoa Whoa" is heard from the tower.
4th pass ..... 9.93
@137MPH
Coming
back to the pits, Rich rolled the video as "The King"
stepppd out of
The Duster. "Where's The Boner?" asked Rich. With that
Emilio kissed
the quarter panel and got ready for the next run.
5th
pass ..... 9.94 @137.22MPH
Best quote of the day
from the tower:
